TUTO : Install Jelly Bean on Nexus ONE - Nexus One General

Hello,
I am coming from an iOS world (no bashing please) and I first tried yesterday to update my Nexus One (GingerBread) to Jelly Bean. Although many forums post and blogs are available. It is nothing like easy for someone new in this world. Many acronyms, shortcuts etc ..
I summarized my experience in this blog post: www dot stormacq dot com/?p=494 (sorry for the link but stupid forum policies forbid forum newbie to post links. Not easy to share experience and information !!)
This is NOT a step-by-step tutorial, but just some highlight, warning and soem ways to avoid common pitfalls.
I hope it will be useful to others.
Seb

Give me more details:
Are you trying to install a aosp from your personal kang?
Are you trying to update?
Are you trying to port?
Why dont using some beautiful ports from developers section?

Not bad for an Apple fan tried to flash a Jelly Bean ROM I read your blog. It's not stupid forum policies but it's a way to prevent spammers post links to other sites.

Don't know if I understand :S

Just finished... Took me 6 hours!
I just did this, thinking that is wouldn't be so hard since I had unlocked and flashed CM 7.2 a while back. I feel like I definitely jumped into the deep end. I had never used fastboot usb or Blackrose and they were actually quite fun to learn to use, albeit frustrating. I think I had to reread like 5 different threads at least 10 times but I got there. 6 hours of solid learning!

I would love to see such a tutorial (I couldn't visit the link above, even after some 'dot'substitution/etc).
I am using CM7.2. I put CM on my N1 some months before, and just keep updating by installing new releases from CM. The nice thing is that I do not have to reinstall app/move data after each upgrade.
I would love to get step-by-step help on getting Jelly Bean (Evervolv rom), and wonder whether it'll be as "upgrade friendly" as CM afterwards.
Thanks!

i dint understand flashing the patch for hboot.. i did repartition using balckrose..

Nice blog post sebsto127. I did it slightly different in that I used OSX to manually install BlackRose.
Running the installer in OSX doesn't work as you've found (cant execute binary or something) so then I followed the instructions found in the BlackRose "manual" download..
All that did was screw my recovery partition and BlackRose couldn't install due to 'signature verify fail'.
After some searching through the BlackRose thread I found this (why it isn't in the OP I don't know): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29156664&postcount=1292
After reflashing 4EXT recovery all was good again.

Installing Blackrose allows you to repartition - Step #2 in the blog is to install the actual partition system for Jellybean

thanks!!

This might be somewhat off topic but I just want to mention that having tried both Evervolv's JB and Spazedog's, the Spazedog JB ROM has been much more stable for me and since it is based on CM, many of the CM customization options are there (Evervolv is closer to stock AOSP). You'll also want to overclock your processor to achieve optimum performance.
As for learning all this stuff, it seems to be a never ending process for me. I had unlocked rooted five devices since December but when I got my N1 a couple weeks ago...I was going crazy trying to learn about the particularities of this device (especially in regards to hboot & a2sd...neither of which are present/necessary on any other device I've tinkered with).

I ended up trying both Evervolv ICS and SpazeDog ICS. And find the latter smoother on my N1 (but I don't like the boot animation on SpazeDog )
I find the following helpful for ICS, and probably also what one need for JB.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804571
As mentioned in many places by the devs, the JB is not as mature and there are known issues like camera. That's probably why there is not a complete instruction, by purpose.
Last but not the least, thanks for all the great things this community brings!

Random offset while flashing in Clockworkmod recovery

Since I have been lurking and not posting enough to be able to post in development threads, I decided to post here instead.
edit:enough posts to write in dev section, but brainmaster already updated his OP with this information, which is probably the reason you are reading this now.
People are freaking out of the "Random offset XXXX" notification (it is not an error) when they flash an ICS rom in Clockworkmod recovery.

..and so on.
As far as I understand correctly, this is not an error message at all,
but a safety feature implemented in ICS.

So, it might be wise for the OPs to update their first post in any ICS ROM threads to tell people not to be scared.
Thank you koush, brainmaster, kwiboo and frasiscofranco for a very useful ICS ROM and kernel.
safety for what?
i had this several times but since everything worked fine i didn't think of it as an error..

its not only in clockworkmod recovery, its in twrp recovery too. its not an error.
Which is exactly the reason I request the developers to notify users of this. I would do it myself, but since I'm still a xda noob, I can't.

I noticed this error (0x315 for me) and I got worried. But, after seeing this, and now that the rom is currently booting up right, I feel safe.

[Q] noob that wants ics

Hi All
I am a noob lol
I have a Acer_A500_7.066.01_com_Gen (not rooted)Running on 3.2 only got download for this a few days ago.
Is the UK going to get ics? Or is there a way to download it my self?
If so could some one give me a step-by-step guide as I am a noob.
Salfordlad
[/COLOR]There are a 2 (maybe 3) ICS Roms currently available.
1. Look in the DEV sub forum for the leaked ICS rom. This is pretty close to what the official ACER rom will look like when it finally comes out.
2. There is a dev here called Protekk. (he is the maybe above) no real info on his stuff, but search here about it.
3. There is a fully working (minus camera) ICS ROM that is very well received by a dev who does not post his work here. Search for "Tegra Owners Forum" via google to find his link. He is also the dev that got CWM working for the Acer.
For any of the above, you will need to Root your device. There are lots for threads on that in these forums.
Enjoy.
as of right now there is no release of ics for our acers.
if you are refering to the "leak " scene on another thread, it is being used by the great, hard working devs to make us our ics. saying that if you are stating that you are a noob, than i really suggest you dot screw arround with what has been "leaked" or you will probably regret it as people are having some problems trying to flash this rom.
there is an ics rom out there with some minor bugs but you will have to search for that yourself
i would just wait and there will be some stable roms out soon
hope that helps
Dr
Thanks for that might just site back and wait don't want to break my Acer only had for one month lol

yup... im gonna wait for a good rom ( moscow i hope you listening lmao ) good things will come to people that are patient
I so agree with Dr .. this acer ics leak is a Dev alpha build its missing a apps and components from the ICS That acer will release..It is also very likely that you will have to flash back to 3.2.1 to update to the acer ics rom when they push it OTA. as this rom has a new boot loader that seems to be Completely different
Big warning.. if you flash this . YOU MUST GET YOUR UID SAVE AND SOUND FIRST.. AS THIS NEW BOOT LOADER IS SUSPECTED TO BE CHANGING IT. This will prevent you from reverting back..
as far as the other rom mentioned above well only thing i will say . Read more about it before you flash. IT However is safe as far as the ability to return to Stock.
good luck If you are not comfortable flashing your tablet i suggest to wait or do much more reading. Asking for a step by step without basic knowledge is Dangerous..
Good Luck..
Erica
Thanks for your advice.
Think I will just sit back and chill until Acer release ICS for us all,but the sooner the better.

You are correct to say that Thors rom seems to work well. But the op clearly (not meant to be disrespectful to OP) does not have the knowledge to do the downgrade to root procedure . Nor do i believe he wants to Do so.I think just finding and following a walk thru without atlest some knowledge is dangerous. But If he decides to and wants to try a Stock ics . Thor's ics is likely the safest way to go..
I just believe myself that if someone has to ask they should read more. And not become flash happy. Even following a tutorial can go wrong.. ALSO KNOW how to get out of trouble up front.Just in case something goes wrong.
There is no right answer. its about comfort level of the Person.
Asking questions before hand isn't a bad thing. It also doesn't show they don't know what they are doing. I ask questions, but I have a general feel for what I'm doing.

[JB][30-08-2012] CyanogenMod 10 for Motorola Milestone 2 (Android 4.1.1)

Hello all,
srry but im dont have 10 post yet, but I'm having trouble,
im using for long time cyanoge 7, after 9 and now the version 10.
But when im install version CM10-20120819-NIGHTLY-milestone2.zip, the phone works perfectly, cam, apps, switching screens is smooth, and it is pretty fast.
But if I install any other version that has left with improvements, the phone gets very, very, very slow, can not even write a message, anyone know what this might be, is it nescessário perform the downgrade to version CM10-20120830-NIGHTLY-milestone2.zip for example?
Thanks for help.

I guess reading the OP from this thread and the changelog was a bit hard ?
It's simple, that version is the last one with Froyo kernel support, all the subsequent ones don't.
It's why it's stated IN THE FIRST POST that IF you come from Froyo kernel (which is forced if you were on the CM7 from this forum basically), you HAVE to update to either the Chinese GB kernel (linked in the first post by Tezet) OR make an sbf update of your phone with the latest GB European kernel before flashing the new CM10.

There is a whole discussion thread about CM10 explaining how to work with it, the steps to install it in the op of the CM10 thread (or the CM9 ones, or the one in MS2 General forum explaining how to install CM9 on LatAm phones and other EU phones, and so on, on top of it being explaining like 10 times in Questions and Troubleshooting or the actual CM10 thread...).
As a registered user you accepted the rules of XDA, using the search function and searching before a question is one MANDATORY rule.
Being a lazzy ass not even wanting to go read the TITLES of the first page of the forums and/or the last 2 pages of the troubleshooting thread or the first 2 pages of the discussion and dev topics of a ROM is kind of painful......

Please read the very first post by Tezet. Tezet didn't provide Froyo support in his latest rom. So please follow his instructions to fix it.
If this cannot help you, I will suggest you to do full wipe and flash the newest rom again. It's amazing. I love it.
Your problems here could have been avoided by taking the five minutes necessary to read the first post of Tezet's thread completely mate.
As such, this thread is unnecessary, and I'm going to close it.
Please everyone, before you go flashing ANYTHING to your precious devices, make sure you read the fine print first!!!!

In The Beginning There Was Root
There are many ways to root your G2/DZ but only one method you should use, if your phone has never been rooted use the method shown here.
If you already rooted your phone with a different method I highly suggest reversing it and following the proper steps.
THE XDA WIKI Will answer questions about your phone plus give you an easy to follow rooting guide
But before you can root chances are you need to downgrade first THIS GUIDE will help you do just that
If you are having issues then consider one of these two other guides, both use gfree to exploit and essentially are the same guide, but written differently, use what works for you.

How To Behave on XDA Forums
This section is not meant to offend but rather inform XDA members, please read, understand and abide by what is said in this post... you will never be called a n00b if you do!
First Read This
This alone will save you - thanks Tony Stark
How to post your problem or question
This isn't really complicated but for whatever reason many don't follow the basic outline for posting. So let's see if I can help
Step One
*Have you searched for the answer to your problem/question?
If not do this first, both the search button in the XDA forums and Google work wonders.
At least attempt to show you did a little research before you scream help or this ROM is garbage, Not searching or just simply complaining will get you ignored EVEN IF YOU WRITE IN ALL CAPS
All questions belong in Q&A Forum All General Phone discussion in General NEVER post random problems in Developers section
Step Two
So you have searched for your answer and can't find it, that's okay, it happens to all of us. But before you create a new thread seek out a similar one (in the proper forum for you phone) and ask there.
You may think a new thread is better but in truth people look at the old ones just as much, and keeping all similar questions in one thread helps to elevate congestion and makes the next guys search a ton easier.
Step Three
Know what to post. This means explain your problem as best you can (don't write a book, just not "help my phone is possessed by demons" as this is not helpful)
So this means explain all about your phone, boot into your bootloader and write down all from that screen within your post. Explain how you rooted your phone. Explain where your troubles began and what you have tried to do to fix it.
Give details as much as possible, this usually will include a logcat. Which there are many ways to get, learn how to before you have a problem.
Code:
adb logcat > logcat.txt
Code:
adb shell dmesg ; adb logcat -b system -b radio -b events -b main
Code:
cat /proc/last_kmsg
Also read THIS or maybe try THIS
Use pastebin or codewraps around your logcat ( # sign from above)
Obviously every problem and question will require different information, but the more you give the better chance someone can help you.
Step Four
Wait for your answer, do not post the same question in ten threads, one will do. While you are waiting keep searching for your own answer.
When someone gives you help say thank you (with the thanks button preferably - don't make a post that just says thanks... not ever)
Even if you don't like the answer be grateful someone took time from their day to try and help if you think it's bad advice, maybe reiterate your question and politely ask for a clearer or better explanation to the solution.
Once you have an answer
Edit first post to add the fix. If there was no fix maybe explain why there is no fix in first post.
This will help others searching for a similar problem later. Make sure your helper was thanked as well.
*Remember ROMs, Kernels, etc, may be posted in the developer section, basic questions shouldn't be in those threads.
If you must add something, like a bug report, be sure to add a logcat or you likely wont be helped.
Happy Flashing!

I flashed G-lite 2.0.1 and ended up with no pop-up for USB storage when i connect to PC via cable. Can you help me pls
That's strange, I used that ROM many times and never had this happen, what have you tried to fix it so far? Dirty flashes? Clean flashes? Did it ever happen before? Does it still charge? Would need to know a lot more about your situation

try a different rom and flashed to your phone to see it is from that specific rom or your phone has a problem
Updated and added a poll, This is very time consuming which is often something I don't have much of
Just curious if others are using this or if I'm wasting time keeping this thread up to date

I'm glad this thread was helpful for you, and that reminds me, if anyone can think of some import threads that should be added please let me know. As in something you are trying to search out specific to the vision but not found here. Would like to make it a one stop shop, but keep in mind I'm not trying to add new info rather just a thread containing links to other relevant threads,
Thanks to the few of you who participated in the poll, its as I thought; not many using this thread but helpful to those who do. I'll continue to support it

Kitkat hboot
Hello Guys,
i have installed [vision] [1.2.8] AOSB Project
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2642605
I have read that I need another HBOOT for KITKAT for more memory in system but which? (Hboot for DZ)
Now I have Hboot 0.84.2000 but nothing changed.
Before I was was on 0.85.0005
which one must be installed?
And
I have no Contacts on SIM with this ROM. Is it normaly?
With Sensei 1.3.0 I have Contacts on SIM
My Desire is with german Keyboard (QWERTZ)
You have the correct bootloader now
I have yet to flash aosb so I can't say for sure but my assumption is that there is a bug in displaying Sim contact, I've seen this on many ROMs in the past so I have migrated to gmail contacts as a workaround. You could do the same.
But you can check by going into contact app and there the settings to see what happens when you choose display sim contacts, if it doesn't work give the dev a bug report and use another contact sync or another rom

[Q] Which one is better?

Hi guys! This is my first time posting on this forum, but i have come to many threads as a visitor to figure out problems regarding my google nexus 4 and i have to say this is one of the most useful forums ever! I can find nearly everything here, its totally awesome..
now to the point, my question is Which one gives faster and better performance? Cm10.1 or combination of kernel franco r136 and rom paranoid android alpha? because i recently saw a video on youtube where this person was testing custom nexus 4 vs stock samsung s4 and using only franco r136 and paranoid rom he increased his performance by A LOT (compared to my antutu benchmark which was utterly disappointing.. around 16.5k ) without overclocking..
if the combination is better than how to install the kernel and rom (can anyone link me to a noobs guide to installing roms and kernels?) because i just rooted my phone 3 days ago without checking the "custom recovery check box" .. (btw, the nexus root toolkit 1.7.2 is awesome!!!) ..
i am currently running stock kernel and rom i think and my phone is only rooted.. (kernel version: 3.4.0 and build number jwr66y)..
Thanks for reading my first post and thread!

oke a question though.. since posting in that thread without actually trying to install a rom or kernel would be useless..
if i make a backup of all my apps.. and say i install cm10.1 or the combination i mentioned in my first post.. will i be able to restore my apps using the nexus root toolkit or will i have to install all my apps from again..?
I have a touchwiz device so im not fully qualified to answer your question. Thats why I gave you a ask any question for your device thread. Most members use apps like titanium backup to back there apps up
