Hi Guys,
Thanks for lots of things on the website, I just got my mogul 2 days back and I am installing lots of app. One thing I really wanted was free GPS app. Now I liked msn live better then Google, specially as it was giving ding sound before turn. But I still wanted audibles. So, I downloaded nav4all. But it was pain in the xxx as it will only work some time. Even I kept google maps running in the back so it can lock but when I start nav4all app it will not lock. It only worked 2 times for 10 minutes.
So finally found following app and it worked like champ. I will give outdoor try tomorrow bit it was easy to install, good clear sound. Lots of setting and 2 different option to save bandwidth. I did not have to do anything to even lock on the satellite. It just worked. I tried some entering address and all that stuff and it worked great. I will let you all know more tomorrow after some test. Give it a shot as it is free.
http://www.amazegps.com
how did you get this to work i get an apply screen. i will look deeper into this im also using the mogul. thanks for exposing this app though
same
ive got the same screen
Did y'all follow instructions and write down the username and password they put up on the download page for Windows Mobile?
Apply Screen
Make sure to write down your user name & password, record it from the site download screen.
Pretty cool
Very cool, and it's free, but mine says it's Alpha version, and it looks like it does not have all the features it claims to have for other mobile devices. Also, for some reason, it does not show areal view (I am in Florida, USA). But I like the idead of hearing voice directions. I'll let you know later when I am on the road.

Hi Guys, I tried it today going to work and it worked really really good. I think UI is better then my Magellan. It shows POI's nearby and text is really clear. Route calculation was really quick. I am pretty much impressed. Now one problem is if you zoom fully and driving on the highway, it sometimes lags on refresh but if you are one level less zoom it works good. Man this is too good to be true but it works and the voice pretty loud. As this is just alpha version I think they should be able to improve it more.
This is too good to be true
I know it's alpha, but I have a few issues:
- US Maps are old - didn't have my area which is over four years old.
- Keep having to enter username/password each time I start - no way I'm going to remember that every time.
- doesn't remember settings (imperial vs. metric, etc.)
Anyone else having these issues?
Installed, ran...unimpressed
I don't really see the point for this app in the U.S. I don't know how LiveSearch and Google maps work in other countries....but this app gave zero new features...in fact, the aforementioned worked better.
In my humble opinion, US buyers, move on.

I don't know why you say that, it is not like you are paying anything for the app. It is free, gives you voice prompt. If you are like me who has unlimited data, you don't worry about updating maps as they will be always updated and it just works.
Also it has an no satellite option which will just give you direction arrows and voice prompt in which it will download map for the whole route so, even if you are going to the place where there is no data service available you will still able to navigate as long as you are on the course and as I said it worked much better then I expected.

No, I have to enter username only once and also I don't have to enter setting again. Seems like you have some write permission issue as it just to storing some values to say, don't need to enter password and other setting. I also have my favorites saved. I use it on HTC Mogul.
Just d\l it an looks good. Demo plotted course well but no audio. Tried WM5 and WM6 and sound is greyed out on the options menu. Anyone getting turn by turn audio?

I am getting turn by turn audio. I did not have to make any changes for that.
I tried this app about a week or so ago and it didn't work on my Mogul -- I just tried it again (downloaded the "now available" WM6 version) and it indeed works... Map coverage in my area is a bit weak, but I'm going to give the app a workout and see how it goes...
The price is right...
I tried this on my Mogul yesterday and it drove me absolutely insane! The maps for my area is seriously outdated and the navigation on the map is painfully annoying. Love the "Turn left at next intersection" voice though. Microsoft's Live Search is still my "free" GPS program of choice.

Thanks for the info. I only tried it in the demo mode and I'll take it on the road tomorrow to check it out. I may be one of the only ones, but I love Nav4All, also free, and doesn't need an active internet connection after the course is plotted so I figure I'll play around with this one over the weekend...
Good stuff considering it's free...but i prefer the tomtom over this any day! but then again in the free category this beats google and live only because it gives you turn by turn directions! In googlemaps u take the wrong turn, the course stays plotted but your blue dot goes awry! GoogleMaps doesn't even warn you that you've gone the wrong way!
need help
when i go to the menu map center on gps. all i keeps on saying is No Sattelites.
is there a way to turn on my gps on my Titan
does live search show gas prices like Sprint Navi does?

Do you have a Radio ROM that has the GPS enabled? If you're Verizon, for example, you're going to need to flash a new ROM. There's plenty of discussion on how to do so here and on PPCGeeks.
It seems that Google maps is working with WiFi again. They also changed their icon pic.
Thanks for the heads up! But the icon looks the same =/
icon
The icon changed, and you no longer get the My Location yellow window popup.
Honestly, it also seems to load locations faster.
Yes, it seems to play nicer with the 6800. There is also a little arrow that point the direction your heading!!! I like that feature!

Okay a softreset changed the icon. God I love Google Maps, the interface is so much easier to navigate compared to Live Search. If only GMs supported voice to tell it what you're looking for, in due time hopefully...

That is interesting.
I find just the opposite, and after trying the use Google for a while I always get frustrated and go back to Live Search.
Each to his/her own =). Yeah I'm really happy that they added the arrow showing the direction you're traveling in, it makes things so much easier. Now if only they had a walking route option like how the website now has. (Basically it ignores 1 way streets) as I use GM for walking around when I'm in Manhattan and don't usually drive there.
Walking directions
I also would like to have the option of walking directions, much needed in NYC
I actually like more Live Search but good update from google. Any software out there that has walking directions?
Looks like it needs some work.
It still does not show my contacts that have an address, but no phone number.
When you select a contact, you have to select which phone number or email address you want to use. If you select a home phone, you STILL must select a home versus work address.
No gas prices or movie lookup. No white pages search.
It does draw the screen quick.

Just select the transit tab and request directions there. Since there is no transit info for NYC or Philadelphia (where I tested it since I live in Philly) it will revert to giving you walking directions.
Mine won't install
My Google Maps update won't install. When I click the text-messaged link, Opera 9.5 takes me to the Google maps install now page. I click Install Now, and I get this error message, titled gmm.jad:
There is no application associated with "gmm". Run the application first, then open this file from within the application.
Nonsense: I have 2.1.0.10 on my XV6800's built-in RAM.
How, exactly, would I open the Google Maps updater from within Google Maps?

Try to update using PIE
sweet
I hadn't tried using the newest version until this weekend.
The interface is significantly changed, making things a lot easier to use. Going from text directions to satellite takes just a quick click of the screen.
The other thing I love, though should have been an obvious inclusion, is the arrow that points in the direction your moving.
They've also implemented, essentially a next step button that explains what you have to do next on your trip.
Great stuff
Help please
OK, so here's the deal...
I had the previous version of GMs installed, 2.0.1.18, and I am attemping to update to this version.
First, I tried to uninstall the older version thru Settings > Remove Programs.
Gives me the "are you sure..." message, I click Yes
Then it says, "Google Maps was not completely removed. Do you want to remove it from the list of installed programs?"
I click Yes (which prolly doesn't do anything bc it doesnt actually remove it) and soft reset.
When it comes back up, I try to install the new version:
I double click the new cab, googlemaps_compressed.cab
states "the previous version of Google Maps will be removed before the new one is installed. Select OK to continue or Cancel to quit", I click OK.
Then I get "The previous version of Google Maps cannot be removed. Do you want to continue installing Google Maps?" I click Yes.
It finishes the rest of the install, then states "installation of googlemaps_compressed.cab was unsuccessful". I soft reset.
I reopen google maps from my program launcher, I get the "accept/decline" message. I hit Accept. the version I am on is still the 2.0.1.18. But I think it is jacked up because now I cannot center on GPS. This function works fine in MS Live Search.
Sooooo is there a means to actually remove every trace of google maps on my phone, registry and all? I assume if there is a way to do this, then I would be able to get the new version installed. Essentially, how so I completely remove this (and really any app bc I have had this happen before) from my phone.
VZW xv6800 running dcd rom 3.2.5 / radio 3.42.50
Thanks for the help, this is bugging the #@#%^@! outta me.

looking for an option that does not require hard reset. There has to be an application uninstall/clean up tool out there I would think. Anyone else?
I am begging someone to look into some app that can fool the 'Geolocation' on the nexus one and report a different location. So anytime an app checks my location using wifi , it will bock that. Sort of like a proxy, but not for the webrowser, rather for the phone itself.
Kind of what market enabler does, but for the phone as a whole
I really would like NBA League pass to work in Canada, and even US residents would like to view games that are blacked out in thier home towns.
The iphone has the same problem but its been hacked ages ago, with an app called 'Fake Location'
I will glady donate any $ neccessary, I'm sure its not a very hard task but its just not very famous/ demanded feature
Thank you, Samer.

I think enable mock lations is for GPS only, not wifi
plus if i do enable it..i have no other options
where exaclty can i set my location on a nexus one
I would love something like this so i can use pandora in Australia.
Just got the latest Bing app update and it now features turn by turn directions a la Google navigation on the Android platform. I am yet to try it but figured I woul
d atleast get the word out.
its about time!
I switched to android about 2 years ago and now I'm back to windows mobile and badly missing my Google navigation. Hopefully this is at least half the app that was, Ill be testing it over the next few days.
Do you know if there's any way to download the map files onto the phone? I don't have a data plan.
I have downloaded it and tried it and it works great... I am really impressed with this free app.

+1+++++++++++++
just finished installing this, and playing around for a little bit. i have to say this is pretty good so far
This is a great alternative to the commercial GPS software in preparation for WP7. Works well.
I was very surprised on the options availble in this app. Turn by turn navigation read outloud and voice activated searches.
This was announced in windows mobile apps a while back....the voice search (you speak) and the turn by turn navigation where it speaks is great but I regularly had issues on a recent trip to florida with the app just exiting with no warning...possibly due to not having access to data....seems to me they could at least buffer the whole trip using data at the BEGINNING so you can continue to navigate through deadspots but failing that have your program CONTINUE from where it left off when you restart it.
If it's not crashing for you then it's a very well done app and highly recommended.
Can we use this app without the data plan and can the map be downloaded to sd card?
Thank for the info
I actually find that Bing app kind of worthless. Upon start up, it just sits at Searching for location. So I exit out of that, go into maps, or directions, go to "locate me" and it just sits there and says locating, never doesn anything else. Maybe im missing something on the settings side of things???

Are you using GPS for it? Mine gets a lock about 5 seconds. Inside, it still seems to know my general location so I can at least do local searches.
I downloaded it about 5 days ago and it gives me the same crappy, incorrect directions that Google Maps does except the phone talks to me so it's definitely a keeper! Works with my bluetooth stereo headsets also.

Interesting...I had the opposite problem....mine would yell out "Rerouting" as I'm pulling into the parking lot of the destination.
They need to:
1) Give a beep when the program is exiting so you know it died.
2) Offer to resume from where you were when app is restarted
3) Cache entire trip at beginning so that area's of poor coverage would continue to work. Update this cache when rerouting.
4) Change "Prepare to turn Left/Right" to "Prepare to turn Left/right at XXX Street"
Not entirely impressed with it. For a free app, I think Waze is better, but Waze's performance depends heavily on whether there's other active Wazers in your area, and good area managers, so results may vary. Being an area manager for my local city does help a bit though

I used it yesterday in LA. It did a great job of not only getting me where I wanted to but rerouting me immediately at the 2 detours and 1 stop I made on the way. I'm warming up to it!
I found it very slow to update my position as I drove. Finally just deleted it. Google maps works much better, faster and stays locked to my position whereas bing would update slowly making the cursor jump constantly.
I do wish Google maps would add rerouting.
BTW, I see that Google Maps supports voice turn by turn with Android phones. My guess is it will eventually be available to WM phones too.
bing worked for me im in hawaii maybe it depends where you live? not sure but its a keeper for me better than copilot and telenav i miss google maps on my g1 but this is good for now and you cant beat the price
If anyone is interested its simple and works well. I used File Explorer with the root addon from netapps its free, deleted the current screwed to hell new version on the moto x and used file explorer again on my razr m to copy 6.14.3 the version that came on my razr m, sent it via email to myself and downloded it to moto x and it installed fine and works like a champ.. I keep playstore set to NEVER AUTO UPDATE APPS

What's wrong with the current version of Google Maps?
I also never auto update lol. If I update one app every treo months that's allot. Needs to have 4.5+ star rating for latest update. But yeah I'm on 7.4.0 with zero issues, what's wrong with it?

Just not a fan of the new maps that came out last year.. they made it ridiculously hard to get directions from "point on map" I still havent figured out how to get point on map as departure point.. i can as destination but not as departure .. it is so simple in the old verion I use. another thing is the permanent scale bar the have on the old version.. is gone on the new version along with plus and minus buttons to zoom with.. it was perfect before and they made a [email protected]$$% out of it. takes three times longer to get directins than it use to. the two shots below are from my moto x and old version 6.14.3 from razr m, it shows how simple it is to choose point on map.. its easy, and also shows the permanent scale bar i like and the zoom buttons i prefer over double tapping and guessing which way to move your finger to get the zoom you want.. i dont know who was in charge of the update to change all these nice features but it was a huge disapointment..
Good one. New map version has live traffic information mapped on the navigation view which is missing in the old map.

Looks different.. I will check it out on my nexus 7. I haven't used my moto x with the latest google maps for actually naving but my little brother did on a trip across the country and said it kept locking up on him when he stopped for gas and wanted to continue driving.. he said it would never restart the trip navigation and he would have to re enter the destination. I've never had that problem.. i have heard REROUTING REROUTING several times LOL tho. I don't like the menu design of the new maps.. one more thing I don't care for... If it's now broke leave it the @#$%^ alone!!
I think the main problem here is this was posted in the wrong thread. This should of been under general or apps. This does not belong in development.

I didn't find it difficult to get directions from two pins. You just got to star/save them. Then when you are inputting the directions start/end pick the starred locations for your departure/arrival.
(The pin didn't show up here, but I saved this location using a pin, just like the 1st image)
I like the new maps a lot better than the old maps.
Has anyone noticed that as you drive along a route, that "6 Minute Faster" etc signs pop up but for some reason, Maps does not change the route? It sticks with the original no matter what, and I have to tap that sign or just take that exit/etc. I have to constantly watch the app during rush hour and it's a tad dangerous, but if I watch closely I can save 20-45 minutes daily, it seems.

No.. but im still using old faithful. 6.14.3 it works perfectly.. someone from apple is working on gmaps updating it to destroy it so you wont buy moto and go to apple. I can email you the old version.. so much easier to use and no problems with it
Arak, thanks for trying to help with the point to point directions but you shouldn't have to save a point to use it as a point I try to make my own shortest distance routes using touch the screen as a selection point all the time I don't want to go through the hassle of saving it and choosing from my saved points I'm constantly touching part of a highway and using it from there that spot to come up with a shorter route or just a different route that I wanted shoes no reason I should have to take time and save a point what up bull****
the old version works great just select point on map touch that point boom you are done no saving pins. so glad i was able to root the phone delete the new version and put the old version back on
another thing I don't like I miss Google update crap is talk to type it doesn't work you can't erase words that you didn't say in that last paragraph I didn't say shoes but it refuses to let me backspace and delete the damn word and I didn't say up again I can't get rid of the damn thing whatever you talk and it types it you cannot backspace erase the damn s*** like you used to be able to f****** Google man just leave something that works alone
again.. more .. i didnt say miss in that last para.. but one it is spoken and typed... you cant backspce.. anyone else have that issue? i will check settings see if i can change it. never had this problem on my razr m. if it didnt type what i said right i simply backspaced and corrected it.. but now backspace doesnt work over something King Google wants typed
