This is ridiculously annoying. Anyone know a way to disable it?

what is "hold home button"
Well, no way currently. I can guarantee, though, that you will be able to change completely these types of functionalities in a couple weeks with some good custom ROMs. Anybody else really excited to see what for AOKP does with Jelly Bean?
I don't know what you are referring to. I hold the home button and Google appears so I can more over it.
Other than that, nothing.

I think that's what he is referring to. He doesn't want anything to happen when he holds the home button.
OIC..yeah I don't think there is a way to change that.
It should be disabled in full screen apps. Such as a gesture to bring up the Google thing. Then a second gesture to activate it

Without installing some ROM it shouldn't be possible. Also, stop bumping this thread up - it's been answered a few posts back.

Has anyone else seen this...my bottom "back" button (menu-home-back-search) seems to be much less responsive than it used to be...all the others seem ok... Is there a way to calibrate their sensitivity?

I don't think there is a way to calibrate those. But some thing you might want to add to the OP is what rom you are on maybe there is a setting that I don't know about.
I'm on mostly stock now... Tried out Thunderhawk's latest and saw no difference.... (with that at least)...

might be a hardware problem then. if you went back to stock and same thing is happening.
Yeah...my that's my guess too...likely that my phone just has a little hardware issue...it still works, but I frequently have to hit the back button 2 or 3 times to get it to register...sigh.

its a hardware issue. My search button isn't as sensitive as the others. Good thing I don't use that often.

Hey there.
First off I'd like to say that I currently own a LG O2X but I'm planning to buy a N4 as soon as it's available again.
Now, to my question:
Let's assume that the phone freezes and it doesn't restart or react to anything you do. You can't take the battery out to reset the phone. What can you do to reboot it? That kinda makes me worry, as I haven't used any Android phone besides my O2X yet and I encounter this issue sometimes and fix it by taking out the battery and putting it back in.
Thanks in advance.

Does that cause the phone to reboot? With a freeze I mean a complete freeze. Touchscreen not responding to anything etc. That includes no power menu when holding down the power button.

Yes holding down the power button is like basically doing a battery pull. Take like 6-10 seconds.

Okay. Whew. Now I'm relieved and can't wait to get my hands on a N4. Thanks alot.

I hope that's a somehow hardware implemented thing that can't go wrong no matter how ****ed up the software is.

Thank you!

Are you doing it simultaneously? Give it like a second or two before releasing

press the power button first and the the volume down button...and then wait for your INSTANT WIN!!
need to press them the same time. its a little tricky at the start but you'll get used to it.
or you can just get an app that will do it for you

no point in installing useless apps that consume memory when its in the OS natively. its not that difficult to press two buttons at the same time and getting it right. once you do it once or twice, you'd get the hang of it and all is good.
either that or flash a custom rom and u can add the screenshot button on your long press power button menu.

It works for everyone. All you have to do is push them at the same time. Power + volume down. Hold for like three seconds. If it doesn't work hold for five seconds.

It's very tricky. I said the same thing when I was doing it on my galaxy Nexus but got the hang of it.
Place your hand on the volume down and power button before pressing them and then hold them both at the same time until your phone makes a screen shot animation.
I will give Samsung this though the slide to screen shot is very intuitive on the touch wiz platform.

Oh so that's why. Since the new diztronics cover the buttons, it's probably not being pressed correctly.

Tell that to the people who had difficulties
It is tricky at the beginning but like I said over again and again, once you know how to do it. It's not tricky and is very easy to do. I understand depending what case they have on it may be trickier because the case covers the buttons that all of us overlooked
Screen shot working on Nexus 4 after trying this!!!!

Try first powering off your phone. I had a little issue and i could not get the shutting down menu after several attempts, the phone restarted it self and after it was up, I was able to take screenshots without any difficulties.

My nexus had the same problem... and yes, I know how to take screenshots...
But by doing this the problem was solved... thanx man!
Hey everyone, I'm a long time iPhone user/dev who has just bought a Nexus 4. Now I know this sounds very noob, but for some reason I have never been able to take a screen shot, using Volume down + Power button combination. I am rooted but running stock JOP40D, and I have had this issue ever since I first turned the phone on. Searched the forums and Google and couldn't find anything nor could I find any type of setting or toggle. Any help would be appreciated. Please be kind!

are you holding the buttons down long enough?
I believe so. Holding for 5+ seconds with no response. Haven't messed with any system files so this seems very odd.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Shouldn't need to really hold down at all. If you get the combo right it's pretty much instant.
When you try does anything happen? Does the volume decrease or the screen shut off? If so your timing is out.
No there isn't any reaction. I can put volume down, I can lock screen, but when pressed at the same time nothing happens. Might need to do a factory reset, although it was doing this on first boot so it's unlikely to help

Yes I was thinking of just using the home button. And as for just not pressing it, that also works but I'm always pressing the button by accident since its so sensitive. But thanks for the advice
I have read you are able to disable the home button. I was just wondering if you could do the same with the power button.

I agree. The volume and power buttons are very sensitive. I've had an Otterbox Defender case on since I bought the phone and never had a problem since the case makes those two buttons difficult to press. But I used the phone naked last weekend and I kept hitting those two buttons, especially when I was in landscape mode. Real PITA. Plus holding the phone was akin to holding a wet bar of soap. Needless to say, I put it back in the case.
In any event, if you disable the power button, what if the phone locks up or shuts down by mistake...how will you power it back on? Doesn't sound like a good idea to me.
You may want to consider looking for a slim case that covers the buttons, thus making them less sensitive to inadvertent activation.
