If you were trying to make a verygreen bootable SD to install roms on, go to my tips thread linked in my signature and you will find a link there to my updated verygreen image that has already been expanded (to 203mb). It says it is for ics, but works great on CM7 too.

You need to give more detail. You mean when you put your SD in a card reader on your PC or when you connect the usb cable to the nook. And which PC operating system? And if in a card reader, what kind, built in or USB external?

Bootable sd card?

Is there a dummies guide to creating a bootable sd card for the Nook? I'm trying to follow the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030227&page=61
but I can't seem to get the Nook to recognize the card. My goal is to root my Nook 1.3 so I can use the Amazon App Store. If there is an easier method I would love to give it a try.
Check out the guide in my sig.

I used this 5 part series youtube videos as a reference when I did my first CM7 install to run from SD. For me at least it is a lot easier to understand the process when I can see it.

Thanks for the reply. The instructions were basically what I followed but they do not explain how to make the SD card bootable.
Thanks Imbroglio I'll check out the videos.
My issue was my internal card reader was being viewed as a floppy drive...had to use a USB card reader.

You just plug your SD card into your computer open up WIN32DISKIMAGER as admin, select the drive letter of your SD card, select the image you have to burn, now click burn image. Then pop it into your Nook and bam.
Sent from space
The image makes the card bootable. You don't have to do anything else after the image is successfully loaded to the card.
1. download Win32DiskImager (older version preferred, r15 or something)
2. download CwM R (either 3.0.2.8 or newest 3.2.0.1 depends on your system)
3. execute the Win32DiskImager
4. Browse to select the drive (uSD) and the image file (step 2 above) then click Write.
Done.

I'm guessing this is my issue. I'm using a cheap micro sd to usb adapter. I did the same steps the others have mentioned. Seems like it should be pretty self explanatory. I'll try picking up a card reader.
Success! I had the wrong Win32diskimager zip file. (I tried both). With the help of Youtube I got the correct version and am all set. I appreciate the help and patience.

[GUIDE] How to format 64 GB microSD to FAT32 WITHOUT sd card reader.

I've recently figured out how to do this and it's pretty simple, but since there isn't a thread like this one yet, I might as well post a tutorial on how to do it and be of assistance to those of you who haven't figured it out yet.
1. Download and install the latest version of the app 'SGS3 Easy UMS'.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1711009
2. Download and install the free 'EaseUS Partition Master 9.1.1 Home Edition'.
http://download.cnet.com/EaseUS-Partition-Master-Home-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html
3. Plug your phone into your computer with the SD card inside. Make sure the computer can recognize the phone is in MTP mode.
4. Open SGS3 Easy UMS and press 'UMS mode'. Your external SD card will now be recognized as a removable disk.
5. Open EaseUS Partition Master, select the removable disk and press 'Format'. Choose FAT32 as file system. Finally, press 'Apply'. Your SD has now been formatted to FAT32.
6. Go back to SGS3 Easy UMS and select 'Mount card'. Unplug the phone.
7. Restart your phone.
8. Enjoy!
PS: To be sure of your succes, you must use EaseUS Partition Master and nothing else. I tried Minitool Partition Wizard at first and it did not work.
I knew this already,

welll my microsd fried randomly today too (Lexar 32gb class 10) ... tried to do this method because I dont have a microsd reader... well didnt work out too well because it keeps saying "could not find location" to sd 1
I have Sandisk Ultra 64 GB microSDXC Class 10 UHS-1 which is exFAT formatted. The only problem I have is that Clockwork Mod will not mount it in recovery. My work around is to remove and replace the card with my old 32GB one which is FAT32 formatted.
* * * * * Will this procedure allow that (use with in recovery)?
Anyway there is an Amazon Black Friday weekend special for these for $35 delivered (with prime).
there is a warning / cautionary note which reads:
"Reformat into file system other than exFAT may cause instability"

Fix SD Card Issues(Formatting,Mounting,Errors,Corruption or even Death of Card)

For Guys who have issues with SD Cards (Formatting,Mounting,Errors,Corruption or even Death of Card) :
A full format (uncheck quick format)running HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool is recommended.
Moreover, never ever use SD card Adapters for formatting.Always USB card readers as they are more efficient.
Generic operating system formatters don’t provide the optimum performance. And,sometimes, can result into SD card death and less picture-saving space.
Full format once in awhile is recommended to prevent possible corrupt files, lengthen the life of the card and achieve the most available space possible.
This tool is compatible with Windows XP and vista however Windows 7 users can run this tool in Compatibility mode for Windows 7 by going through :
Properties>Compatibility>Compatibility mode>Check(Run this program in compatibility mode for)>Select Windows 7 from dropdown menu>Apply>OK

Yep,a full format(uncheck quick format) using this tool should solve your problem.I was facing the same issue with one of my cards.
Don't used SD card Adapter for formatting, use a USB card reader.Hope it will get your card back in action.
You can also run surface test using MiniTool Partition Wizard to check any read error in your SD card's memory blocks.
(Right click on your card>surface test)
Good luck:good:

Sorry,I didn't get you.
SD adapter is used to make your micro SD usable on normal SD slot devices. It is not any type of memory.
If you are reffering to a dead micro SD card,a full format (uncheck quick format) using this tool might fix your problem.
Always use USB card readers for the formatting process.

I don't want to be a smart-ass here but seriously... Initially I thought you'd mean a card reader with "SD adapter"... if you're speaking about micro sd adapters: nothing wrong to use those as it's just a kind of "connector extension" - the only thing that might go wrong is that the slot has a mechanical problem. That usually would end up in getting nothing formatted
Anyway thx for the hint with the application - could become useful some time

Format your card from within the phone settings first(Settings > Storage).

Yeah,of course, you can transfer files using adapters but USB card reader is recommended for the formatting process.
This tool was created specifically for HP USB devices so only a USB SD card reader can be used as interface device.
The most amazing thing about this tool is ,it does a very deep cleansing. While other formatting tools take 3-4 mints to format an 8GB SD card, this tool takes 4-5 hours to ensure most efficient formatting.I have used and verified this tool personally.Using generic formatting utilities don’t provide optimal performance for your SD cards.
I just thought it might be good to list a tip that might help others with their SD card issues.
I wonder :S
Hi I have a 8GB MicroSD card, suddenly it went slow down.. I formatted it using various applications but it doesn't affect it takes so long to paste a file(s) I dunno but it ask around 25 minutes to paste a 250MB file and sometimes it increases to hours.. I didn't even found any bad sectors.. every sector is ok but it's useless without fast data writing.. anyone ever faced this type of matter? :crying:
I NEED HELP!!! I have a 32gb micro sd card and the above process does not work.
Why is this here? Shouldn't it be somewhere like hardware and software hacking or something...
Anyway dont use adapters makes no sense, like that one guy just said: Its just ... ...
However im not on sense rom so i may make no sense myself
Hi
I need some help. I think my 2gb sdcard got corrupted and my willy doesnot reads it anymore although i have tried another sdcard and it works.
So problem is with sdcard. My computer wont recognise it too ( i tried it with my wildfire not with any card reader or adaptor )
I download that hp exe file but how can it work if my pc doesn't reads sdcard ?
Is there a way that i can use any software and plug sdcard in an adaptor ? And format it etc ?
Because i dont own an adaptor or a usb card reader. I'll probably lend an adaptor today but for usb card reader i'll have to wait for a day or two
I really need my sdcard working

I doubt it'll help!
This tool was designed to format flash drives and it does a deep format, which is helpful in removing problematic partitions from those drives(sd cards).
I have been using this tool for good 2 years now,it has helped me curing pen drives,sd cards which were already readable on windows.(cured issues like i/o errors, cyclic redundancy issue,etc.).But if windows doesnt read it then I doubt it'll help.
Try with some linux system if you have. But,you can consider your card to be dead sadly.

Maybe is the slot of your SD Card, Why?:
Using every ROM, same device and same problem = device
Used other device and everything ok = the "other" device
So, definitely your slot on your device is bad. Good Luck!

Just delete all partitions and make new (FAT32) with some Live CD if U don't have Linux on PC (for best get gParted Live).
Next put it in Your phone and partition again with CWM 6.0, or just use fat32.
Some customized roms mess up sd card if it has /swap.
Noticed this in some 2.3 custom rom, but don't remember name of it.

Those unknown symbol files mean that CM10 is sometimes corrupting some files when it writes. That is why it is mounting the SD as read only. It sees that corruption. Try creating a file with your CM10 file manager. If you cannot, it means it is mounted read only.
Try getting the free SDFormatter program and running that on your PC to reformat the no. 2 SD to fix any corruption.

You have a bad SD card. Stick with Sandisk as they are more reliable.
