Color multipliers and gamma? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do we have any options as far as color tweaking goes? I use the trinity kernel on my galaxy nexus, and I love those colors.
Do we just have to wait for more custom roms and kernels come out? Or is there an app that allows us to customize the values?

You're gonna need something like Franco's app to do something like that

from what I understand the color tweaking is done on a kernel level, so we gotta wait till someone makes a kernel supporting it

has any one made a kernel that will tweak the color??

as of now, its not possible. the nexus 7 lcd screen isnt as user friendly as a samoled screen, not with the tkt app or with the franco kernel updater.

Any news on that? The screen is killing me, it could look good but the calibration is so bad it hurts my eyes. Gamma sits way too high, gives it that overexposed washed out look. At 20% brightness i find it just bearable.

I hope someone can come up with somthing.

I hope someone comes up with a solution. It would be nice to have the ability to adjust the color a bit

SGSII vs SGS screen contrast

Have you guys noticed that the overall color & brightness on the SGSII is much "darker" than that of the SGS? I have both devices and side by side, the difference is quite significant. I know the contrast is supposed to be higher on the SGSII, but it almost makes some backgrounds & icons look too dark.
Thanks in advance, and look forward to your feedback.
Better or worse? Than s1

Can't really tell if it's better or worse, but given I'm coming from S1, it looks a bit dark to me. Maybe just not used to the new screen/contrast...
Isn't gingerbread supposed to be a bit darker than froyo?

Thanks, where did you read this? My SGS is running Froyo 2.2.1, so that could be why.
I have with me both phones and I have to say the maximum brightness is about the same for both.
But what is very clear is that the sgs screen looks very blue comparing to sgs II.
Also SGS II's brightness can go down further than SGS which is also good considering battery life.
Probably the color change Google did with 2.3.3
Looks horrid on my nexus s. I used kernel with voodoo to change back the colors
I don't have GS2 yet but I read in this forum that under display setting there is 3color profiles to choose from?

This probably explains it. Flesh tones are darker in the icons and it just looks overly contrasted.
Thanks!
Sounds like that's what it is..I would have though Samsung would have changed them back IMO ruins the overall look of the oled Colors don't pop out at you like they should and whites also...dull look
Wait for kernel with voodoo color you can fix its not permanent.
Did u check in your settings for option to change?

Yeah, tried the background contrast dynamic vs standard vs movie... didn't really do much. Even on full brightness, the colors definitely look over-contrasted on the 9100... especially comparing icons.
I know I'm being picky... but, I still have both phones, and side by side, it's pretty significant.
Coming too from galaxy s and I find the contrast somehow too high..
@cmd512 did u found a solution for this?
To be honest comparing with my old SGS. It looks perfect because next to my S2 it jusy looks b l u e

What about the power saving feature? There is a pretty big difference between max brightness with auto power feature on and off
I never used the captivate at max brightness so the current difference is minimal and my captivate is on a loan for a friend who left his iphone in the cab
much too dark on the dark tones. I'm hoping for a voodoo color to bring back the natural in it . It just sux coming from sgs 1 (with voodoo color also ofc).
Some other things I noticed is that in native gallery an movies app there is an overall sharpness effect. On hd movies it looks ok but on photos it looks really bad.

You can find some measurements I did on the SGSII's display in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124669
The issue you are describing is reflected in the high gamma. The high gamma value is even worse with "auto-adjust screen power" option disengaged.
Basically the colors become dark too fast when for values between 30% and 0% of maximum brightness. The result is picture with black crush and loss of shadow details.
I have already alterted supercurio to this issue and Voodoo color should allow me to come up with calibrated values that avoid or at least mitigate this issue.
that would be very cool. indeed I was waiting for a voodoo color (since I don't think we'll see a voodoo sound on this thing). I saw that Cognition rom has a "voodoo color" on the soon list.

Lack of voodoo color support?

I don't know if its just me but almost every kernel that I've used that supports voodoo color I can't adjust the gamma values. Is this an ICS thing? Sorry if this is a stupid question

You probably have i9023 variant of Nexus S, which has SLCD not Samoled. Voodoo color only works on Samoled display.

Nah, I have the T-Mobile variant, the i9020t. Voodoo Color was working fine I think back on air kernel 3.5 I would just have the green screen bug cause of my gamma values but now my gamma values don't do anything only if i raise them, which makes my colors appear darker? By default my screen looks a little washed out color wise.

That's not a voodoo color problem. I remember that r_data did that on purpose to eliminate green screen thing. If you don't like it, you can always use a different kernel.

Thats the thing I've tried different kernels with voodoo color support and its all the same thing. :/ I'd love to use Air's kernel if my colors didn't look so washed out to begin with

Quick question I hope you all can help with

I have had my Samsung Nexus since day 1 and I have just got the N7. I have always rooted and had custom roms on my devices. On my Gnex I have been running the Franco app and kernel. One of the best things I love is the ability to adjust my RGB colors to my liking. Does anyone know of a rom, kernel or way to be able to adjust or tweak the RGB colors on the N7?? Loving the N7 and it would be great to get my display colors tweaked better for my eyes. Being a diabetic causes me eye issues at times. Thanks in advance for the help...
This type of adjustment is only possible with AMOLED screens, which the Nexus 7 doesn't have.

[Q] Best settings / profile for Franco's Kernel display options?

Can anyone give me the best options to make my screen look nicer like the iPhone / S4 ? Want it bright and vivid. Any settings or profiles out there I can use?
Thanks!
same here
there is no best setting, theres just the most pleasing setting for you, and everyones best or most pleasing idea of what the screen should look like is different for everbody. plus all our screens vary. youd really have to experiment to find your most pleasing.
There's a suggested setting in the kernel's app that I like

[Q] Screen looks bad after flashing PA!!!

hi i flashed it today and its freaking awesome love it also like halo+pie they are a little bit hard to but its ok anyway i also lsoted a lot of awesome wallpapers came whit nexus 4
btw now thee chrome icon the google logo the white pages everything looks a brown bad like i dont like it everything on screen is that expect mc4 game:!!! is there anyway to make it default? i love the feel tht some ppl call it washed out!!!!
looking at screen shots i got from my stock they look way too overcolored and bad:!!!
I'm afraid it has been made to give a better saturated look and feel as the mako out of the box is just dam right rubbish . now you can alternately install a custom kernel or use an app to change such visual gamma settings.
But I for one love the pa colours. I actually use faux kernel and fauxclock and has set droid-punchy as my default.
Regards
