backup apps+data+settings without root? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to backup apps, settings, app data without rooting?

Should be moved to Q&A

Just a tip, if it's a question it goes in the Q&A section or else a mod is going to get mad and move it.

Besides the fact that this is the wrong section, the answer to your question is no, unfortunately.

Tapatalk - pictures

I know this has nothing to do with the nexus s. Is anybody else having problems not seeing posted photos in tapatalk? Sometimes all of the pictures show, sometimes none do. Sometimes some show, sometimes they'll show after leaving a thread and going back. I've googled, searched the tapatalk forums, etc. There isn't really any mention of it anywhere. Is there some setting I may have unchecked? I've looked 10 times, I can't find any picture settings. It is probably something stupid I'm overlooking...
Thanks!

Did you get the latest update?

Yeah I have the latest. I noticed this problem before tapatalk 2 came out. Maybe for a few months now.

I haven't gotten this problem as much since using Tapa2 but when it does happen I just tap the post and Multi Quote and they show up. Thanking a post does it too but I don't want to thank something before I see what it is

Nova launcher problems

Hey all,
Been having an odd issue with nova launcher on my N7. If I try to move items around, when I try to move anything on my desktop, it immediately goes back to its original location and asks if I want to edit or remove it. Is there a setting that I am missing somewhere that is supposed to stop accidental item moves or is it just because it hasn't been updated for JB?

Mine does that too. What I found out though is you have to move it fast. Like long press and the second it lets you move it sounds you move it sounds then it's fine.
I had this too but after i flashed a rom/changed laucher (one of these), it disappeared. Now its completely gone and smoooth.
You can fix by going under Nova settings and updating to the latest beta.
Thanks for the replies.

Restoring data from old nexus 7

I'm getting a replacement on my nexus 7, I was wondering how to restore what I had to my new replacement new. Such as game data and such. Is the only way if I rooted it?

No worries buddy. It automatically restores through your email. When you start up the N7 enter in the same one you did with your previous Nexus.

Really? It'll remember where I left off on games too? I had a galaxy s2 and got a replacement, but lost all my data.
You will probably need to root and then use a backup program like titanium to backup from the old device, save the backup files to an external location, then restore to your new device. Of course rooting the new device too.

Titanium backup + a box or dropbox account will become your best friend.

eh. I have a mac with me though for the next month or so.. Won't rooting now, erase my data anyways?
I think it's an ICS thing. I'm not too sure about the data, but your apps are ok. I know they're backed up by Google. As for the data, I'm rooted. So...
What you can do is copy your data folder on your phone. You can actually see the file when you connect to your computer, and then just manually start copying your app data. LoL!! I can only imagine how impractical that is.

Power on when USB power inserted?

Hey I recently installed nexus 7 in my car and hardwired the USB cable to Fuse box.So whenever i start my car,my tablet turn on and when i turn it off my tablet goes to sleep mode.If i don't drive car for a week , the tablet shuts off .So i have to open my dash again to power on.Which is pain to open .so is there a way to solve this problem ? Suppose when i turn on my car , will my nexus 7 turn on from an off mode ,instead of charging in background ?
You have asked this question 2 times in the last 2 weeks... The answer is still no. Do not start another thread asking about it. You are spamming.

There was 2 posts exactly like yours the day before you posted. I'm not surprised you missed. No one ever uses the search function. Also, pro tip, when you don't get an answer, you don't post the same stuff again. You bump the OP. And normally when you post about the same thing multiple times and no one answers, it normally means no.

Xposed framework and MoDaCo module. I'm think it has a setting for that. Check the module info before you bother installing Xposed. Requires root. Both available here at XDA.
Second possibly. Timur's kernel, fixed installation version. More info: http://mehrvarz.github.io/usb-host-mode-power-management-nexus7/ Requires root. Seems custom made for your issue.
Trouble is you could have found the kernel mentioned and described in the myriad of threads here on car installs if you simply searched. Perhaps that's why nobody bothered to answer you.

Usb-rom by Timur, is the best option for an in dash install. It was literally made for just that scenario. Designed for in dash installations, and provides all the power and host mode charging options you need specific to this kind of operation. A quick google of timur usb-rom will get you where you need to be.

X posed nor a kernel can enable what OP is asking for. It is in the bootloader. Since the bootloader is not open sources, it can't legally be done.

mobile data toggle

Where is the mobile data toggle in the pull down?
Sent from my SM-G935R4 using Tapatalk
Unfortunately there isn't one. You have to go to data use and turn it off from there. Yeah it sucks. I wanted it the pull down bar too.
why would they take that out?
