I'm well aware I'm posting in the Droid X forum, but only because it's far more active than any Milestone X forum I've found and I feel that this should be seen, especially by anyone who wants ICS as badly as I did.
After weeks of searching, I was fed up with the lack of documentation on flashing ROMs to the Milestone X, I decided to take the dive. I figured... I have an upgrade coming, so if I totally brick it and they won't fix it, I'll just upgrade to the X2. Don't get me wrong, I know people have flashed it, but the documentation as to what works at what doesn't, the step-by-steps that exist for major carrier phones... just isn't there. And oh by the way, if it is there somewhere. Please direct me to it.
So one problem that I have is that I must have the latest and greatest. If I'm going to upgrade my phone software, I don't want to miss out on any of the fun (mainly ICS). Okay, let's make that two problems, because I can't, for the life of me, find an SBF for my phone with my carrier (Cellcom US)... and here we go.
I discovered this over at RootzWiki which I figured would be a good place to start as far as choosing my ICS ROM:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/18589-cyanogenmod-9-unofficial-beta-622/ (All credit for anything related to this ROM goes to x13thangelx)
I downloaded the ROM and Gapps from his links, transferred them to the root of my SD and continued on with the typical Droid X flash method that I've read all over.
First, I loaded up D2 Bootstrapper.
Tapped the first option, waited for "Success!".
Tapped the second option and waited for it to boot into recovery.
Once in recovery, I performed a nandroid backup and then a factory reset... easy enough.
Then I went on to select my CM9 zip file, install it (only took about 60sec, this scared me at first. Literally my first time flashing Android and that just seemed way too fast)
WOW! It succeeded... no errors, nothing. A slight sigh of relief was definitely in order.
I wasn't too concerned that Gapps wouldn't install at this point, and I was right not to be too worried because that went fine too.
Reboot.
Red Motorola M
and voila!
CM9 Loading animation!
I'm playing around with all my new features and things and seeing what does and does not work.
So far, the following is WORKING *out of the box* with no effort on my part:
Data
Voice calls
Camera
Wifi
USB Charge and SD access
Bluetooth (Audio streaming to my aftermarket head unit in my car and Calls are clear... at least I've had no complaints)
What's NOT working:
MMS (probably my fault, APN settings probably wrong)
Chrome - FCs after a few seconds. May already be fixed in a later build
I figured any Droid/Milestone X users could post questions here about my experience and I can be the test dummy to see what works and what doesn't. I literally took about 10min to post this because I'm just so damn pumped to play with my phone. I'll keep an eye on this post and respond to any questions etc that people might have.
p.s. I'm sorry for the formatting of this, it's terrible and probably hard to read. But I was in a rush!
It's very good that you documented this! Milestone X users come through here all the time asking questions and I can never give answers.
One small thing though. You skipped the most important step in your outline, creating a nandroid backup.

Oh yes! I did do that. I'll add that in. Notice how the xda app now recognizes my phone as a DX ;-)

Just out of curiosity, what version were you running on your Milestone X prior to flashing CM9 to it?
What features don't work? What are other known issues, and is it stable?
Sent from my DROIDX using xda premium
I was running 2.3.5 Stock Rooted prior to flashing.
Overall stability - No real app crashes to speak of. The Dev Tools app does crash when I select "Google Login Service". I have no idea what this is used for, but I think this is so beyond minor compared to the overall stability. Chrome FCs shortly after opening, but it's definitely trying to work. I suspect the Dev will have that working soon enough.
Battery life seems normal... slightly less than I'm used to because I'm playing with it so much more, but that will level out and I'm sure it should end up the same or better overall.
I should also mention, it is blazing fast. I'm not sure if I'm the only one with this issue on this phone, but Live Wallpapers have always been way too big of a performance hit for what they're worth. They're great to show off, but it's pretty disappointing not to have a smooth scroll from screen to screen with LWP on, so I never used it. I tested the LWPs on this ROM and they're all *butter* smooth! I was amazed! I'm very sensitive to dips in frame rate and there is hardly a hiccup between a normal wallpaper and LWP on this ROM!
Chrome is currently not working (FC shortly after opening, as stated above) - this is stated by the Dev, but it looks like some of the newer versions of it are working (with some other features being temporarily broken in exchange)
MMS is not working, but that is (I think) user error. I have my APNs backed up and a personal friend who works for my carrier is going to be verifying that I have correct settings just in case. When I attempt to add those APNs in, everything is fine until I add in the "APN Type" which according to my backed up settings, the value should be "mms". As soon as I save that value, the entire APN setting itself disappears from the list or no longer has a radio button to select it. I did make some changes to build.prop to match my carrier, but those didn't seem to help any.
If anyone here has any idea where to go with the MMS, I'd appreciate it. It seems like it's just a simple setting thing and once I figure that out, I'll be golden.
Cellcom APN info that I have so far (for anyone who wishes to help me tackle this):
apn name="Cellcom"
numeric="31060"
mcc="310"
mnc="60"
apn="internet"
user="null"
server="*"
password="null"
proxy="66.255.055.023"
port="9201"
mmsproxy="null"
mmsport="null"
mmsprotocol="null"
mmsc="http://mms.cellcom.com/cellcom/mms.php"

Have you been able to get the MMS working.?
Sent from my Milestone X using Tapatalk 2
So far, still no MMS. I am successfully now on the latest build from 7/15.
Chrome is now working, awesome! However the tradeoff (I'm told) is that video playback and Netflix are temporarily not working in this build. I haven't tried either, but it's pretty widely confirmed to not be working over on the Rootzwiki thread.
I'm working a bit with different forums trying to get this MMS pinned. The biggest issue I'm having is figuring out what MMS relies on. Everyone has their "this will fix it" claims. But it's usually a one or two step process like an MMS.apk or changing an apn setting, etc. I'm sure all these things have something to do with it, but what really needs to happen is someone to say:
"Alright, MMS is comprised of these 5 files and these 8 settings. Modify these to match your network, and it should work."
*shrug* still waiting on that magical rockstar dev to come along lol

Wow...it MUST be a completely deserted island because the dx forums are just a bunch of us ghosts hanging around....lol
Don't bother with getting the dx2 you will be severly disapointed .
I am hoping to swap mine for something else soon.
Nice job on the research though!

Sadly, most developers just recommend using GoSMS as a workaround to MMS issues.
I'm sure in due time something will come out of the water work, though.

I was told the same by my carrier that the X2 is nothing but problems. Plus it's just not worth $100 to gain essentially just dual core.
Progress with mms has been basically nothing. I was told to try a slightly different address for mms to at least gain receive capability. That have me a different error, but still no pics coming through. I feel as though I've tried everything I can find with no progress.
In the other hand, the Rom itself has been fairly solid. Very few fcs and even fewer reboots. The dev doesn't claim any of the releases to be perfectly stable so issues are expected, but minor.
Chrome is blazing fast and so nice to use. It literally feels like 4g speeds compared to any browser I've used.
As far as I'm concerned, I'm mostly happy with it and definitely had happier than stock. Hopefully other Milestone X users will give it a try. I know there are others that have tried and have working mms on their carrier, so my experience is basically worst case scenario.
***Edit***
Funny how it shows that I posted from a Droid X. Psych! Lol

I have to say ive had pretty good success on the milestone x flashing. Im on ntelos small wv carrier. I currently am running the latest cm7 build 2.3.7. I did the following steps to get mine working, I dont know if you have to do all this but I did it from before because I wasnt sure.
Installing a Custom Rom on your nTelos Milestone (Droid) X
As always, I am not responsible if your device breaks.
Requirements: Make sure you are on the latest 2.3.5 Gingerbread build.
Also you can get the nTelos 2.3.5 sbf file from here: http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/milestone-x-support/40938-dire-need-sbf-2-3-5-ntelos-5.html.
Installing the Rom
A. Download the rom
a. For miui download the zip from this link: http://roms.miui.us/shadow/MIUI.us_Shadow_2012-01-08-Wizard0f0s.zip
(The main forum is http://forums.miui.us/showthread.php?12643-ROM-MIUI-us-DefX-2012-1-8)
b. For liquid Gingerbread download this zip: http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...DOWNLOAD NOW&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13275238425901
(the main webpage is http://liquidsmoothroms.com/node/73
c. Don’t unzip it. Put the entire zip in a folder on your SD card. (So for the miui rom I have it under /miui/filename.zip on my sd card. It doesn’t matter what you name the folder. Just put it in a place where you can find it.)
B. Boot into recovery
a. Make sure you are rooted. (If you need help with this just let me know. I used superoneclick)
b. From your phone download “Droid 2 Recovery Bootstrap” from the android market. (https://market.android.com/details?...vbS5rb3VzaGlrZHV0dGEuZHJvaWQyLmJvb3RzdHJhcCJd)
c. Launch the app and click the top button “bootstrap recovery”. If prompted allow it to have superuser privileges.
d. Click on “Reboot Recovery.” Your phone will now reboot into android recovery.
C. Flash the Rom from zip
a. From here most would recommend doing a nandroid backup which is basically a backup of your entire system.
i. Using the volume keys scroll down to “backup and restore.” Select it with the camera button.
ii. Select “backup.” This will take a few minutes but it will backup your entire system. Theoretically if you get messed up doing this process you can go to “restore” and get your old system back.
b. Using the volume keys to move up and down and the camera key to select, scroll down to “wipe data/factory reset” and select it. It will want you to confirm it so scroll down and hit “yes”.
c. Next scroll down to “wipe cache partition” and select it. Hit “yes” to confirm.
d. Now you are going to scroll down to “advanced” and select it.
e. Another menu will pop up. Scroll down to “Wipe Dalvik Cache” and select it. Hit “yes” to confirm.
f. Go back to the main menu (do this using the back button on your device).
g. Scroll down to “install zip from sdcard” and select it.
h. Select “choose zip from sdcard”
i. It will pull up a list of folders on your sd card. Scroll down to the folder with the .zip file we downloaded earlier and select it.
j. Select the zip file you downloaded earlier for your rom (either miui or liquid). Select “yes” when prompted.
k. It will now install the rom. It may take a few minutes. When it is done hit your back button until you get to the main recovery screen.
l. Select “reboot system now”.
m. Your phone will now reboot onto the new rom. It may take a few minutes the first time but it should work fine.
n. If it doesn’t get past the red ‘m’ after about 5 minutes then take out the battery and try again. If you still don’t have any luck you’ll have to sbf and try again.
just as an FYI these are not my instructions i did follow them to the T. I got this from another person who had the same issues with the milestone x flashing. Hopefully we will get a definite guide going so that others can use it as well.
Yeah my issue is that there hasn't been an .SBF released/found for my carrier. If I were to break something I would pretty much be stuck.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 2
Understandable. What carrier again? Sometimes the brand on the sbf isn't important. Ntelos worked fully for me even though I'm on Cellcom. I was shocked. Even my carrier had no idea I was on another carrier's Rom when they saw my phone in person.

Well I never did figure out the MMS. I kind of got sick of forcing an old phone to do things that the newer phones are doing. I cancelled my small carrier and switched to Sprint and got the SGS3 for a steal ($100). Couldn't say no to that... Now I have a new toy to root and flash > And I will gladly leave behind the days of hunting for hours for solutions to issues relating to my small carrier.
I suppose this thread could be closed, unless someone else wants to continue on with it. I was glad to have gotten ICS on the phone, but I've now flashed it back to stock and given it to mom (aw, how sweet).
Now... back to my toy....

Good luck with that. Honestly Sprint would be my last choice in carriers probably. Their pricing is ok, but where I am they have exactly 1 tower (and that is only because there is currently a Sprint support call center here). Everything else roams off the carrier I currently have. I had a friend who tried to use Sprint but got into trouble over his data usage since he was using too much roaming data (again, because they only have 1 native tower).
I've considered either going back to ATT or going with Verizon when my contract expires next Spring. We'll see. App Wireless is supposed to start lighting up some 4G LTE panels next month and are one of the Verizon rural partners. It's rumored that the Razr Maxx will be their first 4G phone though they should also be getting the next iPhone as well which should also be 4G.
I've also considered switching to an iPhone if I stay with them just so that I can at least easily stay on the current firmware release, but I don't know if I can do it. I really like my Androids and really don't agree with Apple's business practices.
Dude.. Can someone help me.. I am trying to root my Milestone X running Gingerbread 2.3.5.. I'm using Super One Click version 2.3.3 0... When I click root, I get a message.. Unknown Device
HDAUDIO\FUNC_02&VEN_11C1&DEV_1040&SUBSYS_107B0690&REV_1002
Would you like me to forcefully install an Android ADB Interface Driver for this device?
Okay so I don't know if I should click "yes" or "no".. Please help.. Someone

Hey guys, just wanted to express my love for the phone and let you know some things I did, that you could do too in order to love your beast a little more.
First off, I rooted at 1.26 and then updated and rooted again at 1.57 (used the root that says you need to root before going to 1.57)
Second, I got several mischievous mods and fun stuff that rooters can only have. (This alone made my phone twice as good...cough...tethering apk..cough...can't say what else)
Third, after figuring out how to make the battery run good, I downloaded a bunch of music and just enjoyed the sweet super loud speaker (covered) while I took a nice hot shower.
Lastly, and this took a while to figure out due to the fact that im no dev. I located on the android dev page the webtop via hdmi and made it so I could do just that. I tried doing the whole adb thing, I tried my own way with root explorer and the installer for 1.26. But nothing worked except for the 4.1.57 (w/chinese font fix) one. I highly recommend it! Go check it out!
Overall, I have a super fast (faster than the iphone 4
Good to see positive things about the atrix!
I love this phone as well its greatly sized and the screen is really nice and the haptic feedback is phenominal. The speed goes without saying and the battery life is good too.
So glad I switched from an iphone 4

I was like you when i first got my HTC Inc, i was able to root it and all and then do other kewl stuff with it. But when i attempted to install a rom on it, with no research done before hand as to how to properly do so, it really threw me for a loop for a good month before i actually started "asking" people for help on the forums. Overall, everyone was pretty responsive and quite helpful, so i encourage you to try out some of the psuedo-roms available. There are three thus far and they're called psuedo roms because our Atrix bootloaders are still locked, so until it's unlocked we can only make minor changes to the framework of the phone.
If you need any help as to how you can install any of the three available roms, here are some links that will prove quite valuable in your quest to further enhancing the aesthetics and functionalities your phone.
1. This link will help you get your phone rooted and retained after the update . But since you already have it rooted and updated, then you can immediately proceed to Part 3!
2. This link is for the GingerBlur v1.3 psuedo-rom.
3. This link is for the GreyBlur v2.1 psuedo-rom.
4. This link is for the GladiAtrix2 v4.2.3 psuedo-rom and it also has instructions on it =P
Of the three, i've only tried GingerBlur and GreyBlur and haven't had time to get around to GladiAtrix2 yet, but the ones i did try are both great. If i had to recommend one for you, i'd say go with GreyBlur just because of my personal preference, i like the theme and icon set better than the stock and GingerBlur ones.
Another great reason to try the Blur Rom series is that both roms have a "Blocked Advertising" feature! In short, if you have apps that give you pop-up ads, they'll be gone! And probably the one app you'll appreciate this the most for is YouTube, because you won't have those 15 second ads anymore =]
If you need any other help, don't be afraid to ask, the XDA community is very open and responsive =] Btw, glad to see you're enjoying your Atrix, it is truly a great device!

I switched from an iPhone 3G, needless to say I love this phone.
I've seen a lot of this in the 3.0 Sense ROM threads and experienced it as well. This is a solution that worked for me on my Incredible and when I tried it on my Eris it worked on that as well. If you want to try it out please do and report your results here whether it worked for you or not so others can decide for themselves whether or not to try it as well.
It seems like there is something strange that goes on when using *228 with the Sense Roms ported from another carrier. Though it hasn't been determined yet where the problem finally lies there has been a work around that has worked for others, myself included. It just requires a little bit of your time to complete it. The process requires unrooting your Eris, activating and updating your PRL, then rooting and flashing your preferred rom. I know this sounds like a lot of work however, thanks to great people such as bftb0, amon-ra, j-case, and scary alien, it's not as much work nor as complicated as it sounds
This also works for fixing issues with sending and receiving sms/mms. I do recall that with the texting issue that can be fixed by flashing xtrSense. It has not yet been confirmed if using xtrSense works with the 3g data drops or not but I have had PM's from users that don't have enough posts do post in the dev section confirming that this procedure worked for others having the data issues.
1. Download the FlashBack21 v2 made by bftb0 from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792026
2. Flash the flashback ROM as you would any other ROM. (Yes this will remove amon recovery and your phone will be completely stock)
3. When your phone boots go through and setup everything as normal. Once that's done dial *228 and select option 1 to activate your phone.
4. After your phone reboots dial *228 again and choose option 2 to update roaming capabilities. Your phone will again reboot after it's completed.
5. Download j-case's recently modded 1-click root app modded by scary alien. You can get this from the following link and scroll to Scenario 5. This will also install amon-ra recovery that Scary alien modified for track-ball optional.... yes.. it's goofy trackball friendly
http://androidforums.com/eris-all-t...2-custom-recovery-trackball-not-required.html
6. Be sure you have the setting checked to allow 3rd party apps to be installed in Settings>applications, copy the 1-click to your sd card and using astro or another file manager install the app and run it.
7. Reboot into your freshly installed recovery and flash your favorite ROM and enjoy having no more 3g data drops.
**Just remember... until the root of the conflict is resolved. Do not use *228 on the 3.0 Sense ROMs.
Please be sure to hit the thanks button on the linked threads to show your appreciation for the work these guys have done on the flashback to stock and everything else. This isn't something they put together in a few minutes and they don't have to do any of it for us. If you don't have an AF account to thank Scary Alien hopefully he will post in this thread soon as well and you can thank him here
As always.. what you do with your phone is your ultimate responsibility and not that of anyone else. No one in any of these threads is responsible for anything that may happen while using any of their work.
CondemnedSoul,
Excellent work, as always, and thank you for your thanks. You are one of many great folks both here and at AF that continue to help out the Eris community, long after the phone was first released (I got mine in middle of Nov. '09).
Please let me know if you need help testing anything on my Eris--its not activated, however, so I don't think I'd be able to help debug any 3G-related bugs for you guys .
Cheers and good luck tracking this issue down.
I don't use Sense 3.0 based roms. I tried Gin-sen-taz but it was too buggy on my phone i might try the latest soon but I'm happy with AOSP right now
Still, thanks for the work-around/fix
I'll try this out once the next version of GST hits the streets. thanks for your efforts!
Sweet deal!
I will try asap and let you know.

Any thoughts to doing a*228 while on a stock-based ROM, like XTRSense, or does it seem to be a "start over from the beginning" deal?

I would think it could be worth a try. It seems like on the Inc it has to do with *228 on the sense ROM's ported from another carrier, which there are a lot of especially for GB Sense. There was 1 ROM that a few people had luck on the Inc without having to go through the unroot/reroot process. That was a Stock based ROM as well. Only reason I posted this way so far is this was the way I did it and I know worked for me. If anyone tries it using xtrSense or another stock based ROM without the lengthy process outlined and has positive results I will gladly edit the OP to add that process as well ... It's definately worth a try though

I'm hoping for some feedback on this soon as well. Given that its not an issue for you now on a freshly rooted phone and it wasn't happening to me after doing this gives a good indication that this should work for most if not all the other users experiencing this.

I have gotten a few PM's from users confirming this procedure fixed their data drop issues. They don't have enough posts to post in the dev section so they PM'd me and I thought I'd share that this is working for others as well
Worked perfectly on my Eris.
This resolved two issues:
3G data drops
Text messaging issues
Now I can send and receive texts using GB and keep the data connection alive.
Thank you!

tried just flashing xtrSense and going through the *228 steps. It didn't work. it seemed to skip through the programming pretty quick, even though it said it was successful. then after i rebooted, i would loose the network. Tried *228 several more times, unsuccessful.
ran the flashbacktostock ROM, and followed your steps from the OP and had network back again.

By my thinking, it should work using xtrSense as it is basically a rooted version of Sense 2.1, is it not ? Sorta like jcase's "plain jane" ROM(s)... If so, it would eliminate what, a couple of the steps ?
I may give it a try again. I really liked the Sense ROMs I tried but the issues were deal-breakers for me.

Did you hit options '1' and '2' when prompted ?

By the way, doesn't dialing "*22899" do both the activation step AND the PRL-update step ? Eliminate a reboot and one step

My daughters phone did the same thing - After you do the "dial 1" step, Go to setting/Accounts & Network and change your network from home only to automatic A or B (either one will pick up a signal).

I think *22899 just does prl update. *22891 or 7 is it? Does the activation. That's what I thought anyway. I could be and have been wrong before though... Lol

thanks!
I am closing the beta for the time being, have a handful of testers atm. It may open up again, stay tuned.
You know the name of the game. Experienced ICS users only please.
I have been putting together a frankenstein type ICS build, blending some tweaks with:
-Beta 2.5.1 i9000
-Beta2 by goodoane
-ICS_4.0.1_r1-Beta2-i9000.zip by onecosmic
-Recommended using the FuguMod_Vibrant_Kernel_BETA2.zip from here: http://code.google.com/p/ice-cream-...mmary+Uploaded+ReleaseDate+Size+DownloadCount (the kernel is included in the zip)
-Also recommend the KB5 modem, from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19795419&postcount=130 (this is also included in the zip, but its not flashing with the rom as of right now)
This has some framework, build.pop, and ui tweaks applied, but I've pulled back on the theming to direct my attentions to functionality.
-Keymapping is corrected
-Can mount via MTP mode
-Moutning works in recovery
-ADB and Shell both work
-SU out of the box
-Lockscreen rotates and screen rotates 360 degrees
Not working:
Must toggle mute (on then off) in order to be heard by incoming callers
GPS
Video Recording
Video Playback (buggy)
You tell me what else to add here.
Installation: (coming from another ICS build, or CM7 only!!)
-Reboot to recovery, perform a factory reset
-Go to mounts and storage and format system
-Flash the Beta2 Kernel (FuguMod_Vibrant_Kernel_BETA2.zip)
-Flash the rom
-Flash your modem (no longer need to reflash the kernel)
-Fix permissions
-Reboot the phone
New Info
As you guys have read, I have been running the data data tweak from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20017090&postcount=1756 and it seems to have made things a lot more stable. No odd application issues going on anymore, although there is a bit more lag, but I think I have found a temp fix for that.
Since Friday night I have been running AutoKill Memory Optimizer, free version from the market. Its not a task killer really, but it maintains the amount of free system memory on your device, from what I understand. I am using Aggressive settings, with the Advanced settings for Memory and Battery enabled, and my phone is flying!
If you guys want, give that a shot, and let me know your results.
*******************************
So, who wants to test?
First, you promise not to release this or share it with anyone, by signing up you agree to this one term.
You should have experience with ICS, and know how to flash it and recover from a bad flash.
If you've never flashed ICS before, you definitely want to start there.
I am looking to possibly release this to the wild by the end of the week, so active testers are a big plus!
When I feel like I have enough testerss I will post that on the top of this post, just ask in here, and I will pm you a link.
I'll test, running ICS now.. I know how to do a little above basic stuff.

can you fix the problem with (i guess all ICS) people not hearing me right?
sometimes they hear me ok, sometimes too loud, or not at all.
i''ve tried to hold and resume but it doesn't fix the issue every time.
this should be a top priority for any rom.
i returned to your zen froyo. it is nice and battery holds 4-5 days for me.
thank you.

What rom were you coming from? This should run with both bootloaders, but I'm on the stock bootloaders, so that might be it. Also, you should be coming from either CM7 or another ICS rom.
Maybe try redownloading the file and reflashing.

I would be glad to help with testing with one caveat. I need either USB tethering or wifi hotspot to be working. I use that quite frequently and would not be able to keep the ROM installed without it.
So I'm currently running a clean EC07 ROM, downloaded from the dev section of our forum. I originally was using Miunia and loved it, up until the FCing became just ridiculous and my home screen would act weird. So, about 2 weeks ago, I flashed the clean EC07 in the hopes of solving these issues.
A few FCs still occur, but not as often as when I had Miunia, so I'm willing to overlook that. My main concern now is the home screen issue. Basically, whenever I back out of an app that I've been using for a while (like 5 minutes or longer), my home screen will appear completely blank, and I have to wait almost 5 seconds for everything to reappear on my home screens. I only have 3 home screens, and mostly app shortcuts, along with a weather widget, flashlight, and screen filter.
I understand that this probably looks foolish, considering how short the wait time appears to be. But I don't understand why my phone does it. My phone started doing this after Miunia; I have no idea if the cause stems from that or some other issue. Either way, I was hoping someone could help me figure out why and how to solve it.
I thought it might have something to do with RAM, since our phone only has like 338 MB. My phone usually sits with about 80-90 MB of free RAM on average. Not sure if this is normal, but that's how it is consistently. If you guys need more info to help me out, please ask! I'll give you any info you need.
Thanks!

I was using Touchwiz. Just switched to Zeam yesterday to see if it would help. Still happening.
OK. let me ask you this. Is there any reason you seem to be hellbent on 07, as opposed to moving to 09? I used to have that same issue with anything but go launcher, on 07. I'm on 09, now, running tw and the only time it has to reload (what is happening is it's being cleared out of cache to make room for other apps) is when I play draw something.
My solution to you, would be to back up your apps, any texts you want, and make sure your contacts are synced with google, then revert to dl17 stock, ota the ec09 update, then move to one of the ec09 prerooted roms, be it ciscogees (you'd have to debloat that one yourself) or one of Pat's, which are debloated already, and his debellaire has Trailblazers mods incorporated, already.
Lol. I'm not hellbent on staying on EC07. I just didn't want to go through the hassle of DL17 to EC09 to rooted EC09. Seemed too cumbersome a process. I also don't know the difference between EC07 and EC09 so I didn't see any advantages in going through that process.
Which specific ROM are you currently running? It sounds like you have minimal problems and that's exactly what I want.

First, the process sounds a lot more cumbersome than it is. The whole thing (once I had the files) took me about 30 minutes, including the ota. Second, 07 was a good rom, for a leak. But, it was still a leak, with all the bugs associated with it. A lot of those bugs, including your memory issues, were fixed with 09. I'd recommend the ota route. But, if you can't/don't want to go that way, there are options. Abby has a full package, and trailblazer extracted the update files. I'm on my own rom. But it is pretty much identical to ciscogee's rom. They were made with the same method (hence the reason I never posted mine). If you want it, I'll crate a post linking it. If not, go with one of the three I mentioned. And, if you want help doing this, I'll be glad to work with you.

Okay. You've convinced me. So my first step is to flash stock DL17 from the forum, do the OTA, then flash a prerooted EC09? I don't care about my apps, I can just redownload and install them. Most of that data's in the cloud anyways. Contacts are fine with Verizon's Wireless Assistant. Pictures are on my SD card. But how can I save my texts? Is there a specific app you recommend?

Sms backup. Search that on market, or play, or whatever the hell they wanna cal it. That is what I use (blue icon). Run it, and you'll be good. If you dont want the hassle of downloading all your apps again, the app manager section of rom toolbox, or titanium backup are both good. Choose "app + data" on the options, and you won't have to reenter account data, or redo preferences.

I wanted to minimize the odds of having problems, so I went back to stock DL17, let it do the OTA update, used SuperOneClick to root, flashed a deodexed EC09 (section 3, whatever ROM was linked) and finally used Titanium Backup to debloat.
It was a very clear guide. No room for error. Well written!

To me ...reverting to stock is the simplest way.
If you absolutely don't want to lose your stuff ...you have to return it to stock piece by piece. Many threads about it already. Many.
Tho...I just transferred all my stuff to my pc ....including my titanium backup folder....pics and all that...and used rsdlite ...and put all my stuff back after. Rooted it. Restored my titanium backup. Done.

While I can agree with this partially, if AT&T and Verizon didn't junk up the firmware and change stuff that didn't need to be changed, then we wouldn't really have a legit reason to root the phone. Dev Editions are for people who want exposed modules and all that jazz, and I feel like Moto should've made a MM phone that was Dev Edition, but can't have your cake and eat it too. Again, if AT&T and Verizon used the same firmware as T-Mobile did, then I'm sure a LOT more people, including myself, would be happy and not need root.

I'm happy the USB OTG is back and the phone feels snappier. Battery life (for me) is noticeably better after a significant decline with 4.4. Good that they fixed all the bluetooth volume issues I was having with my headset (basically one volume on the LG Tone+ and when connected to the car, voice notifications came into the phone and not out of the car speakers). Also looks like some notifications have had some tweaks, such as picture auto-backup now shows a thumbnail of some of the images that were backed up. It's a REALLY good update for me.
Only thing that bugs me so far is that when you remove the USB storage, you get a notification that stays there until the next reboot.
I already had great battery life. But it seems to have gotten slightly better. Not marginal, but it was enough for me to notice. Basically getting a bit more out of a 100% charge.
