Source code + Dev Edition S3 possibilities - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

I am looking to buy a S3 and wondering if it's worth waiting for the developer edition to become available.
I understand that Samsung released source code for the Verizon S3 and the developer edition will have unlocked/unsigned bootloader. Does this mean it will be possible to take driver code from source for ICS and bake it into Jelly Bean code to give us CM or AOSP JB for S3?
Or, are there still legal/license dependencies to be able to build JB for Dev edition S3 just like the Galaxy Nexus?
Thanks!

[Q] Why no official cyanogenmod for y ??

Hi, can someone please tell why there is no official cyanogenmod 7 or 9 or 10??
And please forgive me if this type of question is asked before but i want someone to explain me in detail...
Thanks...
You have an official cm if it is made by cm
For that you need all official sources available for the device to make a bug free version
Since broadcom will not release the sources for this device only unofficial versions can be made by devs who have the time to modify source codes from other devices
That and remember, galaxy y is a budget phone. Even applying a live wallpaper makes it lag

With the eventual release of Grand 2 sometime soon, I don't think Samsung will deliver 4.4 on our device.
And the devs has not yet managed to stabilize CM 10.2, let alone CM 11. It might take months from now, be patient.
If you can't, you probably should've bought a Nexus device.

It's not about which device get released first, but it's about its market target and the product line it is included in. S and Note lines get the updates first because those are Samsung flagships and they're released worldwide. Grand is a midrange device and is specifically targeted where dual sim demand is high (India, China, SE Asia, etc) not the U.S. and Europe. That's why Grand doesn't get the attention they get, and our forums is placed in "Legacy & Low Activity Devices" section.

True yet we got 4.2.2 official before note 2 or s series got 4.3,,though being a mid range device it mde a lot of sales records here in india overall i agree with you note and s series are the flagships even phones like grand and mega should also be included with regard to the updates thats ma own opinion because as google doesn’t discriminate in the same way Samsung shouldn't and i also read smewr bout grand to end its update cycle to 4.2.2 hopefully that must be false if thrs sme base far 4.3 cm 11 can be developed!!!

I think TouchWiz is to blame for the lack of updates to midrange devices... It takes simply too much time and resources for Samsung to make Touchwiz work on newer Android versions and they see it not worth the time and money to update midranges.
The day Samsung decides to stop updating our device is the day we rely to rom devs. The beauty of Android. :good:
No chance of official 4.4, even if Samsung decides to give us 4.4 it will not be before the next android version. Legacy and low level device doesnt mean we can't have a stable cm11 or cm10.2. We have the developers working on 10.2 and I would applaud their efforts for fixing almost everything. For now our device is dependent on pawitp and lets hope he removes some time for fixing RIL of cm 10.2. Once 10.2 is sorted we can have a cm11 compiled by k2wl. One thing I have noticed is that cm10.2 is running into the same problems as 10.1. Like ril and microphone. I'm guessing cm10.2 devs have had a look at pawitp's patches for the respective problems. Until then keep you're fingers crossed and don't loose hope.:good:

I think they have already made a look on them because kingbabasula had shared dual sim soutces released on cms github so its pretty close smewr that they hve looked on the patches as slimbean and resurrection remix hve been worked over cyanogenmod 10.1's sources provided by pawitp but you never know lets wait and watch if k2wl replies and i only felt we might get 4.4 because i read google has reportedly said it can work flawlessly even on low end devices wid 2 or 300mb ram capacity because of its sleekness then why not on grand lets just wait i have heck lot of hopes from XENON92 hes my fav developer:beer::thumbup:

[Q] Is the Cyanogenmod 11 coming to Galaxy Y?

I was thinking about Cyanogenmod 11 for Galaxy Y. I know it hasn't been possible because lack of source code but now when the source has been released, is this possible?

Let me clear your concept.
Even if source is available, CM11 cannot be made stable. (like Wi-Fi, BT, 2G, 3G, Audio do not work)
Because Broadcom does not give required drivers i.e. libraries.
No way! We don't even have stable CyanogenMod 10.
Broadcom is not giving drivers.
They gave drivers after 1.5 years and now we have CM9. CM11 is long way............
Also Galaxy y has separate forum. Post your questions and things there.

G928 Source codes released

Hy all,
I love this phone, but one thnig disapoint me : NO roms oO NO customs roms at all !
I have nexus devices before, and all this custom think missing me ,
I read than developers don't love this phone because SAmsung don't released the source code
but I see this on Samsung website :
http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=sub&sub=F&searchValue=sm-g928
It's all versions source
It's not enought to start real developpement ?
Source code is not the issue. A locked bootloader is the issue, on Verizon and AT&T anyway.

Cm or aosp no, but you have a lot of roms and kernels in the development section.
the problem is that exynos is not open source, especially some hardware blobs!
that's the reason why qualcomm based devices will get cm and aosp, exynos based devices would need a lot of fiddling and reverse engineering, thus cm/aosp support is often not the case!
