Home screen redraw issue - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

My fst post at xda.. i hv been noticing a redraw issue of the homescreen on my s3 weneva i cm out of the browser...is this a general prblm or am i the unfortunate one ?

You can disable the double tap home button that takes you to S-voice or use second party launcher like Apex which is really fast, smooth and cucustomizable.

I have noticed it too and it stops when I kill off other running apps in the background by holding down the home button and swiping to remove the apps.

Two annoyances

Hi all,
So far km loving the tab apart from three thing:
1. It takes more than 1 second to turn the screen on after lock, why?
2. Rotation of the screen and swiping homescreens is jerky and slow
3. Gmail keeps crashing
Anyone else noticing this?
My desire s phone is more smooth on transitions and quicker to unlock.
Makes the look a bit cap when trying to show why it's better than an ipad

I think delay is normal as this is the systems problem but I never experience laggy rotation.

adw launcher solves the rotation and swipe homescreen issues but not others points ... I have same behaviour, including occasional gmail fc
The Note was/is the same way. Custom ROMs usually fix these two issues, but there are only a few 6800 ROMS out and NO 6810 ROMs
The wake delay exists for all the touchwiz devices as far as I know, occurs with my galaxy S2 when it is on battery due to the fact the cpu is throttled down to save on battery. When plugged into the wall the delay is absent.
Thx all for the replies, glad I'm not the only one suffering this.
Just wish a nice plain Google only ics rom would hurry up and appear!

i am using adw but i still have to wait for the wallpaper to refresh everytime i rotate the tab.
Wait a little for ICS and you will be in heavens
Btw I have the same problems but a democracy has always a lot of problems but it is democracy....thank for that
And not so bad problems...
I've never had Gmail FC on me, for those who claim or will claim they dont have any wake up delay.. post a video.

apex launcher beta whooshhhh

i have used apex before on the s3 but didnt really get on with it but the new beta is like lightning on the s3 or is it just placebo ?
It's using Jelly Bean code, so probably it's not placebo.
confirmed.
can confirm its fast as f!!k now. been using since i had a galaxy ace with ics kang and my oh my it's improved. one tip is no animations or transitions. buzz lightyear on my fone lol:cyclops::good::cyclops:
Yep really fast now, didn't realise there was a beta version out so thanks

My only problem with apex is the small lag when opening folders with a lot of apps. I just can't stand it and the beta still have it. Using nova until them fix it.
Where can I download it from ?

If you have Apex installed just check for updates.

you should try Holo launcher HD, based on jelly bean and zero lag, folders open instantly

To get the new Beta you have to have Apex launcher installed then go to Apex settings>About Apex Launcher>Automatically Check for updates> click Beta then search for updates.... It should now find and install the Beta version.
I'm using the beta as well, before that I was using Nova for a long time. Both are great and both have advantages and disadvantages. I'm going to stick with Apex for now. They are so similar but these are the major difference I have noticed using both
Apex:
Smoother Screen Transitions than Nova
Now has JB widget placement/resize
Nova:
Smoother scrolling in folders(apex folder scrolling is more jerky)
Ability to add and view multiple drawer tabs at once. With Apex it seems you can only have 3 tabs visible at once(2 app and one widget) with apex you can have as many as you like all visible
Other than that they seem pretty much the same
Go launcher us better than both for features.

That dinosaur? Lol. It'll do more harm than good.
Newbie question : what's the advantage of using newer ICS / JB specific launchers? Speed?
using Nova Launcher because Apex transition from homescreen to apps list isn't very nice. instread of homescreen fading back it just blacks out. On Nova it fades in like on the original ICS launcher.

You also can do this with apex, ppl should play more with the settings.
Drawer settings - drawer animation and choose fade in. This is NOT the swype animation.

Which launcher??

Hi guys,
Just wondering what launcher you guys are using?? I used to use Apex on my One X which was awesome but it seems pretty laggy on the note 2 as does Nova and Holo.

No offense, but the stock launcher sucks....I hate being stuck with big icons and low grid arrangement
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Ive tried them all. And always come back to go launcher ex.
Reasons to switch from stock. Landscape homescreen view and customise grid layouts and my main two. Add a clock/weather widget from beautiful widgets and happy days.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Go Launcher Ex here too... Though it seems a little less smooth as the stock launcher, I prefer a custom grid (I use 5x6) and icon resizing over a 4x4 grid with too much empty useless space. Why else would you have a 5,5" screen.
A few good improvements on TouchWiz on the Note2 though, are the ability to sort the application list in the app drawer, and a 5 icon dock when running stock.
Yeah, stock launcher sucks donkeys balls for the reason already mentioned- crappy grid arrangement that you can't change. Have tried Ex, it's pretty cool, very smooth. I do prefer Apex but I'd rather have a launcher nice and smooth than laggy.

I'm using Nova. On the Note 2, it's the smoothest launcher I've ever used.
For those who doesn't know, the transparency bug in nova is already fixed

Nova launcher pro and 6x5 grid, but i miss the context screen on touchwith. When i have some time spare, i test again Go launcher, on my previous phone (Arc S), it unusable, cause it's use too much memory.
I have a page here with a few Android launchers on it, if you fancy trying a few others.

I hated TW on my Galaxy S and Note 1, so I used Go Launcher, Launcher Pro and ADW EX. But on the Note 2, TW seems the smoothest for me switching between screens and opening apps and the app drawer.
I'm using the TW mod that gives me a 5x4 grid plus the dock on the home screen and a 6x5 grid in the app draw.
There's a 6x5 grid mod for the homescreen too.

Go Launcher Ex All The Way!
Here's Why:
I've also found it to be very smooth and the least glitchy on Jelly Bean.

My quick tip to activate note 2 project butter or ram to its absolute potential

Yolo,
There might be a tip about this in the note 2 forum.. I couldn't find any.. if there's any im sorry about the repost
So the last couple of days I found this really annoying I kept pressing the home button twice to go back to the screen but the svoice activates (idiotic slow iphone habit) so I had too disable it in svoice settings.. and after that I can feel the smoothness that is project butter... any apps like nova 3 game or chrome... it seems to close the apps quicker... all so very smooth... I couldn't believe it at 1st but later I kept my eye on the ram usage on the entire day it never went past 1gb.. usually I use snote and Gtalk video to get work done with my colleagues .. at times the phone reboots or crashes but after disabling svoice and some samsung apps in application manger... for almost 3 days.. the phone is super fast, battery last longer than 14 hours and no crashes or lag ..

Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Just tried it, and it *seems* a bit faster. Also with the force hardware hardware rendering in dev options.
There's still some extra speed to be squeezed out of the note 2. I find the speed difference between my note 1 with hydracore 4.3b and the stock note 2 not very very big in daily use....
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Just tried it and the phone seems faster and more responsive indeed bro :good: Thanks for the find man, hadn`t heard or read about it yet.
Awesome....faster for sure..tnx dude.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Of course from the day 1 I bought it.. but you can still disable it.. the apps which I disabled are S suggest, Learning hub, simple alarm clock and samsung push service.. if you get an error or some sort.. scroll all the way down in application manager (All section) and enable it back.. but it best you don't mess around with any other features likw nfc test or cell standby cuz it drains your battery... that's not the solution (I'm just saying)

[Q] Expand lock screen widgets

Hi All,
I finally made the jump and bought a Nexus 7 even tho we will most likely see a newer version in May. However it is still freakin awesome! I am running CM 10.1 nightly's but cannot expand the lock screen widgets. Is this possible? I love that new Dashclock widget for the lock screen but it will only show me two of my selected options before it cuts off because I am unable to expand the widget.
I use it on the Note 2 (also running CM10.1) and it works great. Anyone know something that I may have missed?
Thanks in advance
-Chris
I actually forgot how it's done. I remember I did it once on 4.2 but never again could I expand the widgets to maximum size again on 4.2.1 and 4.2.2
Hi there,
Have you tried Apex Launcher?
I dunno for sure, but maybe, and just maybe you can re-size and customize the lock screen widgets.
Hope this helps

I did! That's what I thought but looks like it's built into CM 10.1. but not in the grouper builds i guess.

It doesn't behave the same way my Note 2 build does.Only thing I can do is delete or add widget. no re-sizing (that I can see or get to work) .
It really is strange then. Maybe if you pm your Rom dev for some q & a.
