Is there an app to remove the on-screen buttons during games? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Basically all in the title. I've only been able to find a few flashable mods that were made for the Galaxy Nexus and I don't care enough to risk harming my device trying them out. Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure, but how would you exit games that dont have an exit button within it?

Power menu buttons, that's how I do it on AOKP on my Gnex at least.

Not possible on stock android. Requires a rom with it built in. So your gonna have to wait a while.

Button Savior is a great tool for things like this.
Have to be rooted though.

I thought I'd create a new thread since others may be in the same predicament.

Hack to remove recent used apps in notification bar?

I use the notification bar a lot so the "recent app" section is taking a lot of screen space...to much when it's up to me. Is there a Hack to switch this off and use the notification bar...for notifications? I know I can install a custom rom (my DHD is rooted) but if a hack can do the job?
I'm also curious about how to remove the "recent apps" from my notification bar, as it is useless to me (prefer holding down the home button) and taking excess space on the screen.
Desire Z here.
yep, a hack for this would be great. Pointless when you can just hold home IMO
Anyone?

Agreed, I never really understood this menu anyway, some apps don't seem to show up in it. Maybe it would be useful if it had a built in task killer.
I'd like to see it gone for another reason. When I use lots of different apps, and the "recent apps" change greatly Notification Bar lags, sometimes even 4-5 seconds, which is a LOT. Do you experience the same issue?
Also, bump on the idea.
Great idea! Would love some toggles or music controls instead.

I'm afraid that any major change to these icons or the "recent apps" section will require root privileges.
Definately worth rooting for. Liamstears theme has a customisable power bar in place, though it does allow for both if you feel the need to.
Yeah i know it's worth it, but i do enjoy a stock ROM. I really need a functional phone now, so i don't want to end up with a bricked device

then you don't have much of a choice really.. since u decided to stick to a stock rom and this removal of the recent apps definitely requires some hacking, u're stuck with having recent apps in your notification page
Yes, this recent apps in the notification bar is just useless and takes up the real estate space. Its so useless when you can achieve same from home button.
It will be great to get a hack or option to switchoff this stupid strip.

Ahh, damnit The only thing that's currently stopping me from rooting is the damn downgrade procedure. And i guess there's no point of struggling to make something thats roots 1.72 since 2.3/2.4 is coming soon (i hope).
What's the chance of bricking when downgrading and rooting?

0% lol its impossible to brick you device, downgrading or rooting! the only way to actually brick your device is when flashing a radio or bootloader
I see, i see! I'll read some threads before i decide what to do. Thanks

people use the "brick" word too easly imo, a bricked device wont power on at all, it is as useful as a brick (hence the name). but you see threads all the time "help bricked" or "have i bricked my device" when in reality there device is faaaaaaaar from bricked so dont let it scare you, its actually quite hard to brick your device
Ok, i know i'm off topic now, and sorry about that, but what is the best guide for downgrading and rooting the DHD?
Edit: Found it myself
If your phone is rooted you could flash a mod by he_stheone64 or by krzysiec and then changing the .txt file to stop showing recent opened app. All the instructions are on there great posts in the themes and apps section.
Yeah, i've done that and it's a very quick and easy process.

The Next Big Thing for S II (ROM Feature)

Hey!
I am kinda interested to see what S II users want for the next big Feature in all ROM or a suggestion of ROM.
Except the basic features which all ROMs have like Root,Init.d,BLN etc.
And if the suggestion is clicky I will try to develop the ROM ASAP! with the same feature. OF COURSE...DUH!

Make a ROM that gives me the power of seduction.
NO one does simply ask question like this
How about Dual/Multi boot? I know that this has already been done by the great 'HellCatDroid' but it still has certain limitations and it's a proof-of-concept but when it comes to actual practice, it's not possible to use it. May be someone could design a 'multi' boot loader (/bootmanager?)
Find a way to recover the hidden 500 meg partition on our phone and use it for something useful.
But I still say power of seduction.
No wakelock implementation of BLN...
Make a rom which has better battery life than all other roms out there
I want my phone to implement the latest CM9 commits each time I reboot. I also want it to have a kernel built from source.
I'll keep dreaming.

just talking here, but this isn't too far fetched. on a fairly complicated setup, you can actually accomplish something similar with: cronjob to compile CM automatically on your linux computer + ClockworkMod scripts (Koush might have removed this in recent recoveries, not too sure) + Tasker. strictlyrude27 and brandall used to backup their ROMs automatically with Tasker executing shell commands, so flashing a ROM was/is probably possible. Just figure a way to get the compiled ZIP over to your SD card (probably rsync) and have Tasker execute shell commands on a reboot..

An exchange email application that doesn't drain battery like the stock Samsung app on active sync.
It needs the sources to fix but no suitable sources have ever been released to fix the bug.
Even the market ones drain battery.
I'll keep dreaming that one day we'll get a battery friendly exchange application with push.
And no I won't get a blackberry I had one before and as well as it works the whole o/s is severely lacking.

MIUI V4 port from Nexus S or Galaxy Nexus?

Hi all,
I wanted to ask you wether you want to have the next release ported from Nexus S or from the Galaxy Nexus.
If I use the Galaxy Nexus Rom we'll get the touch buttons on the display, with NS rom we won't have them. Your decision.

no, I don't need it, I want to have a decision from the users if I should port the gnex rom (then it has buttons included) or the NS rom (then it hasn't onscreen buttons included). But I want to find out, which one the users want to have.

Just out of curiosity, what other differences would there be? I don't know much about rom porting but wouldn't it be more difficult to port from galaxy nexus because of the huge difference in screen resolution?

Nexus S is more suitable for X10 i guess, so i'll choose the NS
(btw did you find a fix for DeepSleep? that would pretty mech decide whether we choose ICS as our daily rom)
thanks

I don't know anything about porting gingerbread. I have found a very simple tutorial for MIUI V4 porting, and currently I have running the Gnex version on my X10, ported with that way. Only thing I have recognized yet, is that sometimes the systemUI has fc'ed when I pressed the taskmanager button imidietly after the back button But don't know if it comes from the Gnex version on X10, or that happens also on Gnex itself.
P.S: I personally like the onscreenbuttons

Yes, the hardware from NS is more identical to X10's as the Gnex one, but it works anyways. The question was if you want to have onscreenbuttons, not which rom is more suitable for X10
And the deep sleep, J said he'll look into it, but I can't really do anything there. I have to wait for J to fix it.
L
Make just a nexus s rom with optional the galaxy nexus button flashable zip or make galaxy nexus and make a optionale remove zip some people doesn't like the buttons
Nexus S
The reason is that I don't want any buttons or anything eating up the display of my X10i
Ok guys, I have spent a little bit of my expensive time into a solution which is for everyone the best
I'm uploading right now the new version and make a last test, then you'll see.

I've known this since I had DHD but in random action then I found that.
Now, with the using s2w/tt2w and 2f2w kernel sometimes during the action to wake up or lock off - It suddenly captured screen

Maybe for some newbies good to know (;
I've been using Screenshot for years. It requires a rooted device. Only recently have they decided to add an icon in the top left, which I sometimes prefer to remove.
I didn't realise you were able to take screenshots like that on GB roms and when I've been running JB/ICS roms, I've always used Power+Vol Down.
Comic sans makes the OP, at least for me.
Use the power button, but if you have a sense rom you can tweak it that you can long press one of the home, menu, back and search to screenshot

This is nice!! I would like to be able to long hold on the window to move it.
Something tells me that multi window didn't get mentioned because I don't Think multiwindow will be ready by the final release. It will most likely be in developer settings. Although nice to have is not as functional as Touchwiz. For instance I can't really watch YouTube and use hangouts. Sure I can but as soon as I responded the video paused as soon as the keyboard popped up. I hope when it is release in prime time even away from development settings would be to minimize windows. Back to youtube, if I were on Facebook and wanted to listen to a YouTube video I can minimize the window barely taking any screen real estate and continue doing what I was doing.

Yes it is. I'm glad they are developing it though. As our phones get bigger and bigger, it just makes sense. If they truly want tablets to take the place of laptops, this is the right direction. It's extremely buggy though. I thought scrolling inside each of the 2 apps was smooth, but as soon as you try to switch apps in either screen, it gets really buggy.
