Hey guys,
I have a Xoom and recently tried to use the movie studio...maybe I can't figure it out, but I am disappointed with how generic it is.
The ability to add clips/pictures is fine, but it is annoying that I cannot trim clips before I put it into the timeline.
Also, this is huge, but why can't I put multiple audio files into the movie? It plays ONE song, over and over for the entire movie...I want to be able to trim audio clips and even MUTE the original video clip...iMovie can do all of this, and it seems like this movie studio is just a generic rushed POS that Google put out just to get it out.
Honestly, I am severely disappointed in the movie studio....BUT maybe it is my fault...thats why I am asking if there is any documentation for the studio.
Like when I click on audio files, there is one option at the top right that does not seem to do anything. It looks like a box with sound waves in it that get bigger or smaller depending if I toggle it...but it doesn't do ****.
Any thoughts?
It's a basic and free app included with the OS. If you want to do extended editing, get a computer or wait for a better app to come out.
And wow, comparing it with iMovie? Honeycomb is a new OS, and this is the very first offering and you're *****ing about it.
iMovie is a paid app ($5 I think) and NOT available for the iPad.
iMovie works with iPhone 4,
fourth-generation iPod touch, and iPad 2

who cares if its a first offering...I am still disappointed in it. It is a lacking movie editor.
iMovie was Apple's first attempt at it with the IP4 on a mobile device and it was already much better than the Movie Studio...being a "first" iteration is not an excuse for something sucking.
And I dont think the movie studio has anything to do with Honeycomb...I love honeycomb

So put forth your money and buy one of the paid apps if you want something more.
My point, don't complain about something that was thrown in as a little bonus for free. If you paid something for it, sure, complain, but you didn't, and you're comparing it to a paid application on another system that isn't even comparable to the Xoom (iPhone vs Tablet).
And I can guarantee that iMovie on the iPad 2 is going to be at least twice as much as the iPhone version, maybe even more knowing how Apple likes to soak their users. I'm guessing $15
What paid one do you suggest...

Never needed one since I don't do much video. Check out the market?
https://market.android.com/apps/MEDIA_AND_VIDEO/
There's only 1 in the market and it just takes any video clip u have and you can edit that one clip
I agree with the op. Google seems to always release beta software. I would love to record a couple videos, clip them and mix them together, add more than one music track I would even pay for an app that does all this.
I don't even want to show the app to any of my apple loving friends because it just makes the xoom look even more unfinished
I honestly think people need to chill out around here. The op was stating a couple things he didn't like about an app on his xoom whether it's free or not doesn't matter, he's got the right to complain about what ever the hell he wants. And furthermore he's really just asking for some type of documentation because maybe he missed something. And this lame ass excuse that because this is Google's first shot at a tablet os is starting to get old. Just because honeycomb is the first tablet os doesn't mean that google shouldn't be held accountable for their **** ups. For example, the ****ing market. Who's genius idea was it to remove the ability to comment on apps from the device? Whoever that was is an asshole. /rant

The video editing software is just made for basic video editing...features that you find in window video editing software.
exactly. Thanks.
I was stating how bad I thought it was then was asking for some/any documentation...
Does anyone know what the heck the button is on the top right when you click on the audio track? It looks like sound waves....and clicking it makes them flatter or larger but I can't see or hear what it does.

i'm baffled too. my first guess would be it helps eliminate crackles or background noise from your audio as my first guess. music files shouldnt have any background distortion.
How to get video off device?
I have another video editor. How can I get the video file off of the xoom? I have tried:
- email as attachment in gmail
- email as attachment in isp mail service
- ftp
None of these actually transmit the file.
Thank you
Tom
Usefulness of the application aside. Google could have done more on documentation for Movie Studio.

any answer on the music button? Figured out what it does yet?
I wish we could fade the music at the end instead of an abrupt ending...I'd rather have that than multiple songs in a short clip.
Export problem
I have flashed my Galaxy GT-I9000M with IGS 4.0.3 SGS rom RC4.2.
I cannot export anything with Movie Studio, each time I want to export, the screen appear at 0% and exit after few second and say "error occur, cannot export"
I have try just to import one clip and export it, not work. Try different quality and resolution, don't work.
Exporting folder not created?

Any idea ???
I was beginning to get the Transformer itch earlier this week. I kept thinking about how tired I am of reading my news sites (slashdot) on an iTouch and my ever building animosity towards Apple doesn’t help either. Then I started to consider how the dock could really make this thing exactly what I need for at the motocross track. I’ll be able to log and calculate all sorts of information on my bike’s performance like I would on a netbook and also when I am kicking back in the pits I can watch movies or do various other things. Sixteen hours of battery sweetness pretty much sealed the deal. Yesterday I overnighted the Transformer and now I have about 3 hours on the thing. Since I have no tablet, android, or any smartphone experience: here are my unbiased and uneducated thoughts.
I guess it’d be best to go over the common defects that are everywhere. There is a small amount of light bleed on the bottom of the screen. It is not significant, but it is noticeable on dark screens if you look for it. The speaker imbalance is not present on this tablet. No charging issues to note, yet. Bezel width is very comfortable. It isn't small by many standards but its perfect for my grip, non interrupting of viewable screen space. I have zero issue with the plastic body. It isn't aluminum, granted, but the quality feels plenty sturdy and it bothers me none.
Keeping in mind I only have 3 hours on the Transformer so far, here are some things I really like about the Transformer. The screen image is very crisp. The IPS panel does not disappoint. The Android interface is very sleek, and very smooth, I like it a lot. The built-in GPS and ever advancing Google Maps combo is great and I know it’s going to be extremely useful for me this summer. The background shift while you scroll different screens is pretty slick, I thought. The live backgrounds are cool, I checked out a few galaxy imitating live wallpapers off the market. Touch screen responsiveness is fantastic. Web pages are rendered very crisply and are easy on the eyes even during extended paragraph read-through’s.
And for some things I’m not quite digging: Speaker quality is a definite low. In low lighting the camera pictures are not very good, and the color reproduction is a bit low-end (haven’t tried in good lighting yet). No Netflix client. Application processes seem to build up with no obvious way to end them. All the talk about trojans hitting the Android Market has me fairly reluctant on freely trying apps and games. There is plenty of room for improvement in Polaris Office and I strongly hope that comes.
With everything said so far, it is truly exceeding my expectations. It’s a breeze to work with and I believe it’s going to be fantastic for what I need it for and more. I’m absolutely sure I’m going to start using it for work as well.
I hope this quick new comer’s write up is useful to other’s that are eyeing this gem, just as I was a few days ago. I plan to get my mandatory 10 xda posts in over the next week or so, then you’ll mostly see me in the developer’s section as I begin my own rooted work. See you on the other side

It's definitely a sweet device. My Nook Color is in it's box awaiting it's new owner
Check out splashtop..awesome. I also like the DLNA feature. I can sit outside and connect to my Seagate network drive and watch a movie(s) I've ripped over the past year. After a long day at work, I like to wind down with some Fruit Ninja baby!

Splashtop is sweet, thanks for the recommendation! I am interested in streaming blurays from my home server to the tablet probably downscaling a bit, there any popular methods of doing this yet? Maybe play on has something,I'll look into that

Hi,
So, are you playing the network drive movies via a desktop, and using the remote desktop to see the video? Or are you streaming the video files directly to your tablet? Are the video files pre-processed for a scaled down resolution?
I'm wondering because the stock video app and one I downloaded (mobo) doesn't seem to support streaming. I have ES Navigator to navigate to a windows SMB share. I can view files on the windows share, but when I try to open a video file, the tablet saids it can't stream - must download the entire file before it'll play.
Sorry to hijack the thread - but MurfsHTC commented on exactly what I wanted to be able to do.
Thanks.

basically I rip my dvds using ripit4me, dvd shrink & dvd decrypter. From there i combine the .vob files into one .vob and then convert them. Initially, I was using Divx and streaming thru the xbox 360. I also experimented with Sothink Converter and Handbrake. Sothink has many conversion options but I prefer handbrake. For some reason the Transformer will not load a .divx , .mp4 Itunes movie(.m4v) or .wmv file thru MyNet. it'll do .mp4 (via Handbrake). In a nutshell, I open MyNet, click on the seagate folder and it streams right to the Transformer. I did try mobo and haven't had much luck either. I use the Seagate GoFlex Net 1TB. Plug into your router, load the software and setup your user account. you can also access the drive thru a web browser. Google Chrome doesn't seem to work. Hope I didn't confuse or rattle on.
Well progress is being made on VLC for Android. That will certainly help.

There is absolutely no need to get a task killer app. Let the OS manage that for you. You could even be slowing down your TF by closing apps. There are posts here (In the ultimate TF guide stickied) that detail why.
One of the best uses so far has been a rather reasonable music playback device, if you have quality headphones for it.
Enjoy the the TF Android adventure, it only gets better. Mine is three weeks old, and I have already taken the plunge and rooted, custom Rom, and overclocked mine.

Brandon,
Glad to hear you're enjoying your Transformer. I know I am.
On the volume issue, there's an app: volume+ $1.44 at Amazon that made all the difference in the world after I did the 3.1 update, when it became lower.
About a week or so ago there was a thread on it, if you want to search for volume+. Seems a lot of people were pleased with it. I know I was, now I can't turn my volume all the way up.
Have fun!

I was going to sell my Nook Color but decided to keep it as I enjoy watching Netflix on it, there's no working Netflix app yet for the TF.
Well a few too many beers tonight at baseball practice, came home and neglected a few steps during my first venture into rooting, ha! Didn't take but 10 mins to fix, but I am now rooted and on the prime rom. Will be checking it out for the next few hours
@Geekbabe: I think I read PlayOn supports Netflix to Android now. Granted you need to run the PlayOn server on a PC on your network, but it's something.
EDIT: Now running Prime on top of the netformer kernel. So fun.
im looking for a tablet but my budget is limited and for 200$ the fire falls in to that money slot perfectly .
after its rooted is the fire tablet that can be used for everyday use say
twitter .. facebook etc etc
thanks for any and all information
Earlier today someone posted almost the same questions: "Should I buy a Kindle Fire"
It has no micro sd, no camera, no microphone, and no bluetooth. If you want to use it for viewing media, games, contacts, calendar etc., it's great.
For what its worth, I use it everyday and I quite like it. I miss the microphone (for tuning my guitar) and hardware volume controls though.
Facebook, Twitter etc are not a problem at all. I am on CM7, btw.

You can get this plug-in mic for $1.30 w/shipping. I use it to tune my guitar (using the gstrings app) and make recordings:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00277EMQ2/ref=oh_o02_s00_i00_details
It' great for light use. Web browsing, watching netflix, etc.
I don't have any comment about the stock Amazon software (only used it long enough to root and install TWRP and CM7).
The hardware is quite nice, however. Very solid construction — maybe a bit heavy, but the result is a satisfying feel.
The user experience is very good under the unofficial CM7 ports, even though they are still relatively early in development. As the available AOSP/CM ROMs mature, I think the UX will be excellent, especially ICS.
Some will see the lack of camera and microphone as a disadvantage. Obviously the KF isn't tailor-made for Skype. But I don't need or want every device I own to be able to look at me, listen to me, pinpoint itself on a map, etc. For web browsing, reading, media viewing, and probably gaming, I think the KF's capabilities are probably fine. It already does a much better job at Google Earth than my friend's iPad 2, with the exception of not having GPS.
It's worth noting that the KF appears to have hardware controllers for both GPS and Bluetooth, but it's not clear that either device is connected to an antenna. If not, obviously they won't work without hardware mods.

I gather from this that the headphone jack includes microphone capability...so I would think you could use a stereo cell phone headset and the wifi to make calls using skype (voice only). Has any body tried this and how well did it work?
I think that what we have with the Kindle Fire is this kind of amazing intersection of price-point and brand name recognition.
At $199 you can get a lot of people in the door and the Amazon name backing it and maintaining an app store lets consumers know that the company behind the device is actually serious about it and, unlike some of the competition, isn't going out of business any time soon.
Where all of this wonderfully manifests itself for us as tech enthusiasts is in how quickly the device was rooted, how quickly meaningful recovery options were made available, and how many ROMs/firmwares/OSs are already in some stage of working and working well whether that's in a state of alpha, beta, or stable release.
There are better tablets out there but at $199 and with this much of a solid scene hammering on the thing you'd be hard pressed to find a better entry point into tablets.
Yes. You'll love it. Neilson is a jack***.

I knew about the bluetooth, but I hadn't heard of a GPS in it. If there were some way to make bluetooth and GPS active on the Fire it'd be really awesome for it's price.
Works Great
Once its rooted, it works fantastic. If you cant get it rooted, then other options that give you proper android market access are better. There are just too many important android apps missing from the Amazon App Store right now for it to work as an everyday tablet for everyone out of the box.
I'd also have liked to see Amazon go with a MicroSD slot instead of incorporating the 8gb of "internal" micro sd storage (surely that would have been cheaper from a production standpoint?).
At any rate, mine is rooted, and works great.
I actually prefer the default of the kindle over the honeycomb and gingerbread launchers. the only thing it's missing is a way to switch tasks quickly.
hardware is nice and solid, a bit on the heavy side.

It's my primary web device for evening browsing - I'm using it to write this now.
Gaming is nice, Convo for forum posting (needs Android Market), Dolphin HD for secure and compatible web browsing...
Your average consumer can probably live without ever rooting this puppy, but for me, without Swype, I wouldn't be willing to use it for any writing more than a sentence. And it's pretty sad to not have the standard Market and Google apps... But once you fix those, turn off root and be happy.
Fire is a very nice tablet -- I bought my daughter one for Christmas, and after using it for a day or so I really like it. I also picked up an HTC EVO View 4G 7" tablet on sale for $229, free shipping, no tax, and no contract. Hence, this tablet only cost me $17 more than buying the Fire locally. The View has dual cameras, Bluetooth, 32 gig, a micro sd slot, and now honeycomb. So if these features are important to you, you could look for one on sale for a similar price -- sales on this tablet seem to be popping up everywhere as of late. I must say, however, the Fire seems just a tad faster (dual core vs single core 1.5 GHz). And the Fire interface is dead simple to use (although not as flexible as Honeycomb). Although both tablets are different, they're both awesome - you really can't go wrong either way. Based on my searching, these are the two best tablet deals right now. I also got my wife an iPad 2 for Christmas, and it's awesome too. Just a bit too big for my liking, and I paid less for the combo of Fire and View than for the iPad alone. Gotta love the Android tablets for that!

Well, this is interesting. I have a few mics lying around, will give them a try first. Thanks a mil.
If you're willing to sacrifice full-fledged feature-rich experience for the cheaper price, it's totally worth it. And, if you're willing to flash custom ROMs on it eventually, even more so.
The fire is amazing in my opinion, but what you HAVE to remember when your buying this is its 200 dollars, so you can't expect anything near an Ipad experience. I personally love it for games, web browsing, netflix, light music, and pretty much just enjoying media. So far its been able to do everything I wanted it to do, except up the storage capacity haha, but other than that its been perfect. Its really up to what your looking for.
Did anyone watch the google event just now? What do you think about their new "Q"?
My thouhts;
The positive - great seamless connectivity between all platforms and the price ($35!)
The negative - I kinda like the way to have something "beautiful" (like the Nexus Q was) on top of my receiver in the living room. This whole thing with a hidden tiny HDMI-dongle is just not my cup of tea. I'm also a bit concerned about the sound quality through that tiny thing when streaming Google Music for example. One thing I liked about the Nexus Q was that it really had *great* output audio quality through the HDMI to my receiver.
Another thing I did not like at all is that they still keep bashing us that don't use google play to see our movies. I have most of my movies on my computer in MKV and I want to be able to stream them! This is again where airplay from apple is ahead of google...
What do you guys think?
Btw, is there ANY chance what-so-ever that the new stream button in youtube/google music will have compability with the Nexus Q?
I bought one just because of the price and portability !
I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope the new buttons work with the Q though. I liked having it as a jukebox on my mantle.
the lights are beautiful!

Btw, is there ANY chance what-so-ever that the new stream button in youtube/google music will have compability with the Nexus Q?

one can hope. or just keep using the old apps.
Nexus Q
Wish it had an option like the banana jacks for speakers like the nexus Q does.
Since they released a chrome cast SDK maybe someone at XDA will be able to implement support for chromecast in the nexus Q?

I am hoping for the same thing.....if there are even Devs left....
Or, since we have the parts we need (HAL drivers etc) to make a chromecast rom?
I hope that the chromecast can get ported over i would hate to just toss my balls away they are very cool looking.

Okay, so now google says they're adding chromecast compability with Google TV - which RUNS ANDROID. Just like the Nexus Q does.
Even more hope!!!

when I get home I'll try the app to see if it'll "map" to the Q. Yesterday it was trying to connect to the bluetooth stereo in my car.
Plan B is putting an amp in where I have my Q now and working via the audio out from the TV

I am using the Sonos AMP where my Q was so I still can connect HTMI on my TV to my speakers. Now adding the Chromecast to the TV I should now have a Q replacement.
My thoughts on the Chromecast compared to the Q:
I just got my 2 chromecasts in today and I wanted to share my experience.
It can do all the basic functionality the Q could and more, but there are a few things the Q did better regarding play music.
With the Q one could start music from one device, then pick up another and "now playing" would be synced. This isn't the case with chromecast. Same thing goes the the queue, It isn't synced either, which is odd because I thought I read that others could join in and add to the queue. I always loved this feature with the Q because I could start music in one room with my phone and later control it with my tablet in another room. Plus, my wife would always like to put her songs in on the playlist as well. I also had issues with connecting a second device and the music would just stop. Perhaps future updates with fix some of these bugs.
If you have any other questions, I'll be glad to answer them!

Just bought a Xperia Play HDMI TP engineering build So i decided to make an all in one thread. This thread is for those buying one of these plays for information on how it works how to use it ETC. Also for all those curious about this build of play. There is a lot of misinformation around on these plays and zero videos as far as I have ever seen. Some people show it being connected to a Tv and played but they never explained anything in the video.
Model AT&T with edream 2.3.2
verizon-edream3.0-verizon-zues-110426-1812
baseband: 7x30a-aaabqmazm-1290_10-01
r800x
build.prop is especially interesting and custom maybe thats something for another video lol.
One bug I had an especially good time with was sdcard would not mount basically I would press sdcard mount and it would immediately unmount when mounted. This went on for about two days until it finally mounted and stayed mounted one day.
As I say in the video this play is a little more buggy than the released play but it is as smooth as butter and works great other than that. There is zero lag in the UI or when playing games. When you first turn it on or turn it on after the battery has been removed, diesel dumper will say (aww snap kernel has crashed trying to fix). Which makes your pants turn brown for a second because you probably payed over 200$ for your awesome HDMI play. The service menu is also a bit different and quite interesting.
This video showcases the motherboard, info on getting it going etc. Here is the Video:
http://youtu.be/-7toBShIuas
Basically all info you could want to know is explained in it about this particular play. I wish one of these videos had come out when the play first launched so we could have avoided all the HDMI trolls. Also some pictures of the motherboard will be shown below as I have never seen any anywhere and I have looked quite extensively. Anyways enjoy the video and pictures hopefully they are informative.
I had one of these briefly, sold it for a profit due to hard times. Good to see them ending up in the hands of those who appreciate the history and significance of these special units.

Ya they are so cool im having a blast with mine loved my old play. only reason I sold my original was because the flex went out when I was away and needed another phone until I could fix the flex. Otherwise id still have it lol. Its to bad sony crapped the bed on games. Great device but I think there was alot more in store if it became popular as a system.

I wonder how hard is to get the Xperia Play HDMI and how much it costs? I looked on ebay and found nothing.

Mine was about 200$ they very rarely pop up. Also so far I have not found a way to unlock the bootloader. I looked into frost but that seemed to do something slightly different
