I have need for speed installed and that's about it! I've 12 gb left and I was trying to install a apk for amazon market. I thought it was the apk that was faulty, so I downloaded a random app on the internet and it says that I need to delete stuff..

They don't install into your sd card, they install on your internal memory that's only about 5GB. Go to application settings and see if you can movie them to SD card.

dunno if they've changed it but normally theres a 2gb partition for apps and 12gb for storage. check if your 2gb partition is full. google recently changed things so that there is no longer a file size limit on what can be installed into the 2gb partition. so if one of the apps you've installed is particularly naughty, it couldve dumped a lot of data into the 2gb partition.
normally i find that shutting down and booting devices up again fixes the issue.

Ignore

[tip][GSM][ICS][GB][confirmed] Extra 130mb storage for apps

u guys using ics roms and need some extra space for system apps?
Requirements: must have flashed Neo L ftf or GB ftf modded by cosmicdan for miui Australia. This is to enable vendor partition.
Go to system/vendor and add app folder (if not already there) u can add any app that u want (system, user, even lwp). This partition has about 130mb of unused memory.
I tried this on stock 4.0.3, 4.0.4 and 2.3.4 Dont know about cyanogen.
so here is how/where the apps go.
quoting cosmicdan
Vendor/appslog is it's own partition but it's gets mounted to the system/vendor folder. Stock R800 has partition order (1) system, (2) userdata, (3) unused (including vendor/appslog) (4) cache:

It still uses the same exact space. All it does is "trick" the phone into thinking there is more memory when in actuality there isn't. Take it from a developer that has been doing this since android came out, THIS ISN'T REAL.
Cool.
Im no dev, so I cant argue, but it allows me to install more system apps. Wallpapers and ringtones.
I have 96 mb free In system vendor. And 65 mb free in system.
Currently using customized xdark v2 Rom. Added some Xperia gx apps, live and regular wallpapers, ringtones, forget what else.
The stock neo L 4.0.4 fw uses this folder for many system apps. If Sony uses it why not us?

Trick or not it works. When u move apps there, it frees up space in system storage, so you can throw more things in there. Dont believe me? Try it.

Maybe I see your point now. No it does not give you extra space like your mod with ftf. It is just a folder that does not get used by custom roms (zip flashing does not add anything there. Therefore, face unlock issues by many users. And cwm recovery does not back it ip either probably because it is not in the system partition?)
But the folder is there mostly empty.

use root explorer of your choice. navigate to system/vendor and add folder named app. it should look like system/vendor/app. set permission 755. rwxr-xr-x and you are done. add apps manually and set permission 644 rw-r--r--
Edit: interesting, I did not imagine that Verizon users would get a different partition layout, thanks for the info!

Hmm, I notice that my system/app folder and my data/app folder on the phone have two different amounts of memory that are used and free. Therefore, two separate partitions? Forcing apps into system apps would free up space on the other partition...That's what this is all based on, right?

What root explorer r u using? For me the best is rom toolbox cause it shows u the available space. For each partition.

[Q] App 2 SD

I would like to save files for big games like gameloft etc. on my external sd card. But this isn't possible. On the S3 you could relize this with directory bind or Foldermount, but on the s4 it doesn't work.

That's becouse your device might not be rooted.
When there is an easy root for the s4 and you are rooted directory bind will work.
No, my device is rooted with Su and busybox installed!

I've got a similar problem. I used my own scripts on an SD card and got Script Manager to execute them on boot. Now SM does not run the mount commands.....not from the SD card and not from /data with correct permissions either. I can ssh into the device and run them just fine but SM can't to it. It DOES execute a mkdir and a sleep command as the end of the script so the script runs WITHOUT the mount commands....not sure what to make of that but could be related.
Did the two people who rooted above tty folder mount?

Nexus 4 16GB Actual Storage size

My internal storage reads a 12.3 GB size, now is that including the size of the OS or not? Because after formatting my SD i have a little under 7GB available. So is the missing 5GB or so for OS? Meaning the true size of the SD is 12.3GB? That seems awfully low, even after realizing the promised storage size is always optimistic from the producer. Anyone got the answer?

Both /storage/emulated/legacy and /storage/emulated/0 points to the same location so you are seeing the same files in both locations. SD Maid seems buggy if it cannot detect symlinks properly (maybe there is an option for that app so it doesn't follow symlinks).
Okay, heres a screenshot of SD MAID. I have folders sdcard/ - storage/emulated/legacy - storage/emulated/0 and storage/sdcard0 all containing the same stuff and the memory I'm missing is exactly that of which I'm already using up so it must be duplicating everything elsewhere, but in which directory?

Be careful deleting either. I had a similar issue after using an old version of Astro File Manager. I think they may be "Hard Links", not "Symbolic Links". I ended up backing up my SD data, and did a Factory Reset, which formats the SD partition. All is well now.
It's a known issue that it can sometimes think you have 8GB as opposed to 16GB and the only way to fix it is to flash the factory image...there is a thread on here somewhere about it

I think were talking about 2 different issues. You phone knows it has 16GB, it's just the files are taking twice the space.
Yes, setting>backup & reset >factory data reset was what worked for me.
The other issue was when flashing custom ROM's, on a 16GB model, your phone became a 8GB model.
So you don't believe I have this issue of a 16Gb model believing its an 8Gb model? But instead just because my filed are duplicated?

They are on the SD card, just not normally visible in Windows. If you go to /data/media/clockworkmod in your favourite root explorer (e.g. ES) you'll find them there (or you can delete them through your custom recovery)
Yes I meant not visible as opposed to not actually being present on the sdcard
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
After factory reset I show a total available space of 12.92gb and with nothing loaded on the device it says 10.21gb available. Is this normal? I was under the impression that if the internal storage was wiped I should have pretty much all of the 12.92gb available for use due to the other 3 gb 13-16 being used for the actual system. What am I missing?
Thanks

[Q] Can't move my apps to a sd card

Hey
So I installed the newest official Samsung firmware which was suppose to allow moving my apps to my sd card. When I go to my apps I can see tge button that says "move to sd card". When I press it the app goes from the phones internal memory to the so called internal sd card which is the same in all s4's instead of the "extSdCard" what is the actual sd card I have.
Why those apps doesn't really go to the sd card and why would Samsung hype this newest update with that feature when it doesn't even work.

How to move entire apps to SD card.

Hi all!
I would like to move huge apps to my SD card now that I am rooted. (Forget the class number but it's high and it's a 16gb model)
I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53428200&postcount=1
I downloaded the app off of the play store. When I go to any APP2SD app it still says my device is not supported. How do I go about doing this?
Check out "SDFix: KitKat Writable MicroSD"

But you have to be rooted first for it to work. You're welcome. ??

I know I said I installed that!!!!
What do I do after that? The APP2SD apps still won't move my apps to my sd card.
Had to remove your link to google play it wouldn't let me post it lol.
If by huge apps you mean games that have obb files, try foldermount..works for me.

so I used this app and when I rebooted the Galaxy S5 boot screen showed the lock icon (unlocked) with "Custom" written underneath it. don't suppose that's anything to be concerned about?

I tried using the app to mount the AC4 game/map browser. I'm not sure what it did but it didn't take it off internal storage.
I'm still looking for a way. For example the ACiV app only moves about 40 of the 200 mb. Those root app 2 sd cards don't seem to work.
