Q: Really bad contrast in chrome? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When switching from video with deep blacks etc to chrome, it takes a while (10s or more) to adjust and for contrast to appear normal, and stuff to not seem washed out, although it seems more washed out everywhere in chrome generally than elsewhere... does anyone else have this issue?

[Q] Brightness/Color reduction issues (NOT hardware problem)

The problem: Most screens on my Droid 2 are consistently darkened, as if dimmed to the lowest setting. The colors are even inverted in a few places. I would be inclined to call this a hardware problem, except that many of the stock android screens (app drawer, contacts, settings, etc) display perfectly. As you can see in the (poor quality, sorry) photos, the app drawer looks normal, but the second you switch back to the Home screen, everything visibly fades to a darker, slightly inverted color scheme. Pulling down the notification tray only makes the display darker, and it unquestionably inverts the colors, turning black-on-white text into white-on-black, the wifi indicator turns from blue to orange, and the battery indicator turns from green to blue and magenta.
I've reset the phone to factory, run the SBF through RSD Lite, and searched the Internet high and low for someone experiencing a similar problem. I finally resorted to taking it to Verizon, but (surprise, surprise) they couldn't figure it out, either.
There's been no water damage, and the phone seems to be in pristine condition. It works great in every other respect, but it's basically unusable if the screen doesn't show colors and brightness correctly. I love this phone and don't want to return it to the EBay seller I got it from, but I'm beginning to feel that I have no other choice.
Any help from the XDA gallery?
Well, it's a moot point now. I just returned the phone to the seller; should be getting a full refund.
I'll leave this up for the next guy with this problem. It won't offer much help, but at least he'll know he's not insane.

Should the screen look like this?

My Nexus 4 is under lockdown until Christmas, but I got a chance to have a play with it to make sure everything worked (just incase I had to return it).
I decided to turn the brightness all the way up to see how good the screen was (its GORGEOUS), however, when I was in settings the bottom of the screen is VERY light and it seems to get darker and darker until it gets to the top of the screen.
I turned the Brightness all the way up on my Galaxy Nexus to see of it did the same, and it appears that it does do the same, but not to the same extent as the N4?
Can anyone with a N4 confirm that this is normal behaviour?
Thanks
Stewart
The settings page is supposed to do that. Its a gradient effect

Perfect, thanks!
What the poster above said.
Harder to notice on the gnex since that amoled display is rather awful at displaying gray gradients .

Screen color changing? Negative effect?

Has anybody experienced any issue with their screen colors seemingly fading out to create what almost looks like a "negative" effect? It's like it gets very bright and washed out. It's fixed by turning off the screen and turning it back on, but I don't think I should have to do that. Anybody experience anything similar to this?

This I believe happens on Galaxy S5 Mini (I have it) where when it is set to Auto Brightness and I go outside under direct bright sunlight, the screen will boost brightness beyond the manual Maximum setting that you can set. In turn though, the colours on the screen will go psychedelic where things look very bright and washed out. When I go back inside, usually it stayed extremely bright, soI had to put it to sleep then wake it up again to put the psychedelic brightness back into sense.
On the Note 4, I tried this yesterday, colours didn't go crazy, it stayed pretty much spot on, but I still had to put it back to sleep and wake it to fix the brightness.
It's possible I wasn't patient enough to wait for it to return brightness back to normal after leaving direct sun light, but I did give it 10 seconds and it didn't go back.
I got the same experience with my note 4. At the beginning I thought that it was an issue with my screen. But it could be good to know if it is or not. If one day I will get a black broken screen... This issue appears only under the sun light.

Have you tried disabling the "Adjust screen tone" under display settings to see if it has any effect?

its brightness boost happens in bright environment if you close the auto brightness it will be gone. its not an issue. but gets too bright when not needed sometimes. but in direct sunlight where manuel max brightness not enough it helps alot and it doesnt look weird in a situtation like this.

This is silly-S10+ screen dimmer/colours in lower brightness (read my post)

Hello there everyone,
My S10+ Exynos variant suddenly started showing wierd colour bad contrast in lower britgthness. When dimming the phone below 40% , the picture/video quality gets so dimm, pale, also i notest at work, my other two coworkers have same phone, with notisably darker picture, pictures and videos are darker , contrast is wasy better between dark and bright parts of the picture. And i know about all settings, vivid, advanced, visibility enhancments, Themes. Tried em all. I know android very well in stock settings.
Also i have tried factory reset, wipe chache, i even F...uking updates the phone to the very last firmware, and each update even after factory reset didnt change anything. Its still the same. At lower brigthness the screen gets so grenish dimmed and pale, colours lack contrast.
And also another wierd thing... in both of my coworkers s10+,s dark mode (night mode from pie) is amoled dark, pixels turned of, on my phone its not, they are turned on, dark grey colour. Funny thing is, if i take screenshots, they are not, screenshot shows amoled dark. While in phone, pixels are turned on, like its backlight lcd panel and not amoled. Screen failure or something else i can do?
Any tweak app or something to play with contrast ratio in Samsung Galaxy s10+?

Android 11 artifacts and flashing display

I have a blink as well as artifacts at the bottom of the display. Problem is only andorid 11, and some applications Telegram, Messenger and in these settings.
adaptive brightness - off
maximum brightness
resolution-QHD +
theme - white
Do you have such problems?
I think I can see what you mean it's like a little flicker at the bottom?
It's quite subtle, I've not had the issue on any phone ever personally.
Talk to OnePlus maybe for an RMA, also don't use 60hz or QHD.. Lock FHD on 120Hz
Might help.
Yes, and the display flashes.
Unfortunately, that looks like a possible RMA ...
