via CyanogenMod definitely. If you're expecting an official release by HTC I wouldn't hold your breath as we have yet to get the 2.3.3 sense kernel source.

ICE CREAM
Just read the interview w/Andy Rubin. They said they'd open source ICS "a couple weeks" after the Galaxy Nexus's release =)
HTC has said they are looking at ICS and will determine what they will do, because most of the features that make sense great has now been added to ICS. Could be they don't update any of their old phones, and they come up with something totally new for all of their new phones going forward. If they would put sense as it is now, they would cover up a lot of the new great features of ICS. Just a thought.

I can't find anything regarding a version of CM8. I also can't find any CM versions of honeycomb. I have found CM7 with some honeycomb elements, however. Did Google ever release Honeycomb source into AOSP? That is the only place CM goes to build their roms.

Thanks for the link. I didn't know CM was going to skip a number, since the HC source was never released.

Lol.. I was wondering when we are going to see this thread.
I don't need ICS. By next year, we all are going to be upgrade eligible.
By then ICS will be more polished.
As always, Google tends to dish out half-baked stuff. I expect lots of updates for ICS to settle.
Could we get CM8, whe that becomes available, now that we have GB source, and don't have to worry about other sources cming out?

If that's the case, then I'm almost positive we could get a port of ICS. I don't really care if it's official.
Then again, it's hard to be optimistic in the Epic 4G world.

JellyBean is what ICS should have been, just like Gingerbread is like what Froyo should have been.
With that said, we will have at least a little bit of Jelly Bean on our Atrix through CM9. CM9 already has the static voice/search bar on top of the home screens. I'm sure they can easily implement the new transition effect on the unlock screen.
All of this is great stuff to look forward to, and IMO should hold many Atrix owners over until Key Lime Pie which is still a while off...
can any devs out there comment on how well custom roms based on the (hopefully) upcoming ICS update will fare in regards to custom jelly bean roms?

i thought Google had gotten into the habit of two releases a year, one incremental upgrade (like Gingerbread was to Froyo), and then a major upgrade (like ICS was to Gingerbread/Honeycomb)

+1 for that! Microsoft just can't get things right most times. They should just let 7 stay for a while and continue to support xp and 7.
Why are you guys complaining about JB? We are lucky to even receive ics for our phones, forget about JB because it's not gonna happen. Consider ics the last update that the atrix will get.

Wrong. We will see CM10 Stable release by Jan 2013. CM10 nightly will should start working on August 2012.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
They won't have to build everything up from scratch this time. They just build on ICS so we can get working nightlies in august i guess like Dax says
Yea no need to start all over like they had to from cm7 gingerbread to CM9 ics cuz 2.3 to 4.0 was big but they said they don't have to start from scratch this time cuz jellybean is so close to ics! Also when cm10 is up & running they're going to stop CM9 & work on CM7 & CM10
° N€×U$ $⁴G °
They WILL start from scratch, to ensure there arent leftovers from ics and to prepare better for jelly bean.

read again what they wrote on G+. I'll quote for you because i am such a great guy!
Another fresh start?
With CM9 (and ICS) being such a large jump from CM7 (GB) we decided it would be best and most efficient to essentially rewrite CM enhancements from scratch. This added a bit of time to our development cycle, but the initial investment in cleaning our codebase has paid off, and CM9 is better for it. Now that JB is around the corner, we are in a place where most of our code will merge cleanly into JB, with minimal fuss.

Merge will commence when source is fully downloaded; this means hours not minutes since people all over the world will be hitting these servers.
Do not expect nightlies to immediately be available for JB, we will have them up once we are content with where the ROM is.
As noted before, this does not change the plan for CM 9 - we anticipate an RC2 and then the stable release.
Big shout out to +Jean-Baptiste Queru and the rest of the Android team.

If they need a new kernel from Samsung, it'll probably take many many months, until official JB stock ROM gets released. Remember what happened with ICS on SGS2.
If current kernels can run JB though, it shouldn't take long. Maybe Project Butter related changes can take some time.
