Flashing from Franco kernel - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Hi folks
Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere but couldn't find the thread. New to custom roms on my GT-N7000 and having a great time.
I've been flashing the roms after first reverting to Franco, but now am reading that I should be nursing Abyss instead. Haven't had any problems so far but getting paranoid about the brick bug.
Is there a hard and fast rule about which kernel I ought to use?
TIA.

Franco 10 is also an option when flashing cm9 based roms.

[Q] Bricked Kernel and Minco

Hey, guys
so i tried to flash the minco rom.
which worked fine but when i flashed the bricked kernel
it was stuck on the google logo for ages.
Is there anything wrong with my download?
or is the kernel not compatible?
I thought one of the main features of MinCo is Franco kernel and you are saying that you flash another kernel... Why not using another rom then?
To your question, how about flashing a reset kernel first then the bricked one?

it is i guess, i just wanted to try out the sweep2wake feature.
just got the phone today, so not too sure about which rom to choose.
any suggestions?
cool ill try a reset kernel
Restore your latest nandroid backup
if you want you can use rasbean jelly. its like minco v6 but optimized for trinity kernel. im using minco though. flash a reset kernel first then flash your own kernel of choice since franco kernel uses a different ramdisk then the other kernels i believe

[Q] Franco's Kernel

Hey I am new to Kernels, I am running CM 10.1 Nightly 0124 build. I just flashed Franco's kernel and was wondering what does this give me? Like settings wise I dont see anything different from CM's kernel
You get under the hood improvement mostly. There are extra features such as force fast charge and under volt on the latest test build, but really, franco kernel has been amazing performing kernel.

So basically its already doing its thing once flashed?

In my opinion, yes. But you could get a little more into the kernel and change a lot of things, which I don't do since it is already amazing

Franco's kernel gives me great battery life. You can flash and forget if you want and the default configurations will work just fine. Or if you want to delve into the settings more I would recommend purchasing his app. And he just added UV-ing in the latest test builds
Go in franco's kernel thread, new updates and settings!
Franco kernel changelog: http://minooch.com/franciscofranco/Nexus4/appfiles/nightly-changelog
You should find everything you need in here.
Franco kernel is awesome! im on r61 and cm 10.1
Check the paid version of Franco's kernel app for lots of different tuneables for his kernel.

The real question is, why did you flash the kernel if you don't know what it does?
franco kernel
I am running Franco kernel r53 and the best thing it has given me is excellent battery life. I am gong on 1 day 11 hours without a charge and have 3 hours of screen on time. I'm running paranoid android instead of CM so I can't say your results will be the same but I am loving this kernel.

Faux kernel not compatible?

OK so I've installed the latest cm10.1 nightly and after hearing so many good this about the faux kernel, decided to purchase the app. The problem is when scrolling to the downloads tab on the app im getting a message saying.. No official kernel support for this device....
I've tried restarting my phone and reinstalling the app but no luck. Hope someone can help.
Thanks

faux kernel is for Stock rom
read the thread about this kernel
the fauxclock app works only with kernels they have the patches merged.

Issue solved please close

Hey guys I just rooted and installed a few custom ROMs on my n4. When I install a custom 4.3 kernel on any 4.3 ROM I get ridiculous flickering issues. It never happened on stock and only happens on custom ROMs when flashing another kernel. Am I missing something obvious? I have searched for an answer but have come up empty. Any help would be appreciated cuz I really would like to run Franco or faux ( my two favs from my Gnex days). Thanks a lot guys
Edit: sorry I meant to put this in q and a mods feel free to move

Flash the proper kernel for you ROM hint there are two different builds for 4.3

I did flash the correct kernel. At least I think I'm running cm 4.3 (jss15j) and I tried flashing faux's latest 4.3 kernel. If that is for some reason incorrect which faux or Franco would u recommend?
Edit. Ahh I see what u mean by two different builds. Thanks I thought there was only one build on 4.3

whats a good Kernel with Purity rom?

Im currently running Purity Rom with stock kernel. I dont like franco or faux kernel.
Which is good for purity rom?
Use hellscore it is a very good kernel. Also try purity kernel if you don't like hellscore.b

try them all. every device is unique, and reacts differently with every kernel. plus, we all have different wants, needs, and desires. to find YOUR perfect kernel, you would have to try them all.
First try the ROM kernel, if its good why to change? If not I recommended Franco or semaphore . good luck

There is a thread full of options and results. May I suggest you simply read the Purity thread
I recommend NEO kernel as its the fastest kernel along with hellscore which I heard is also quick. Battery life/stability/customization is very good on them too
