actually backing up the efs folder wont work to restore your imei if its lost on the lte sgs 3s. the file needed to restore your imei(nv_data.bin) is missing from the efs partition.
what's the benefit of having the imei?

MODS PLEASE REMOVE THREAD, I APOLOGIZE, BUT THE INFO I POSTED WAS APPARENTLY INCORRECT.
@jasonyump, thank you for taking the time to let me know that I'm not as safe to flash away as I thought I was! I was very weary to flash anything when I heard of this problem, and I think I'll stay stock w/ root until they learn more about this odd issue:-(. I'm sorry for posting inaccurate information, but the source is an experienced user & I was inclined to take his word. Of course there's always the possibility that I misunderstood what I read in his post, but I believe I read it correctly?
@ dektoud, Hey I greatly appreciate the link you posted to follow the progress of diagnosing the imei issue! I for one am going to be very careful until this is solved, just as I stated above. You guys are great, and I'm glad I didn't continue thinking all was safe for me!

On a lighter note --
Steal someone's efs backup, flash it, generate/get a valid IMEI from one of those sources who were doing good business during the "Chinese Phone" fiasco in India and force feed that IMEI

should i use the efs which is of only g3 one's or can i use any android one's???
Srinivas buddy - i would like you to note that i am no techno whiz and therefore my comments on this problem may also be taken with a pinch of salt. If i had to hazard a guess, i would surely try a efs backup from G3 rather than any other phone. The problem which will arise after you have flashed the efs & its succesfully working, is that there will be potential conflict of the IMEI in case both phones are active. Therefore, it is imperative to change the IMEI at once - and people do say that getting a valid IMEI is possible
To repeat myself - i am in no way responsible for any damage which may result from the above and hope that the DEVs have a better solution than my wild-ass theory

ok...but im a little bit confused...can u clearly explain me...sorry for that
What i mean is that when you "borrow" the efs backup from another phone and flash it to yours - then both the phones will have same IMEI since both carry the same efs information. This may cause problems when both the phones are active on the cellular network and i believe it may also be illegal. Therefore, it is important that you should get a new IMEI number as soon as possible.
Please remember that this is all guesswork and not recommended. However, if you dont care about possibly bricking your phone then atleast choose a efs backup from a phone which is exactly the same model as yours & running the same build / firmware + consult the DEVs before this

i don't know wheather it will work or not, but just try this,
copy and paste efs folder of some other galaxy 3 to system folder using root explorer and edit .imei file with text editor and type your imei which will be there in bill or it will be on box and save it.

Check the above link and get yourself a valid/genuine IMEI number instead of getting into trouble!
if everything else fails, flash the official eclair and update it to froyo via kies. then take it to a samsung centre and say you lost your imei during official update through kies. they ought to fix it

I think its pretty much worth a try, to be completely on the safe side u could just flash a firmware with bootloader, when Odin is at bootloader flashing pull the USB cable and the battery, your phone will be a brick then. Just go to service center and tell them that it didn't turn on after a firmware update with kiss.

Hello
One user here in the CZ came to a complete folder with EFS and backup files.
Telephone module, therefore, does not work.
Is there any solution?
Thanks
I think you may need to send it back to Samsung - you need the nv_data.bin.md5 file in /efs to get the correct IMEI number for your handset - without this I don't think you can get your IMEI back?
And please don't post requests for help in the Dev forum either, k?

Return phone to Samsung for repair .

And what about nv_data.bin from another phone ? IMEI collision ?
Return phone to Samsung for repair - its another option to change mother board or not ?
If you have no backup, that's a warranty job, and they will likely decline to fix under warranty since it was caused by user stupidity.

That may end up before the courts of law as IMEI manipulation is an offence .

Hi mate have you tried flashing the stock firmware back to you'r tab ?
you ment to post this thread here.
forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=752
you could of read the guide before posting this
GUIDE] Recover your IMEI in 9 steps.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264021
this worked for me
What i did to get my IMEI back was to get the ATT or T mobile modem and just use ODIN (boot into that downloading screen) and install it in the PDA section (the modem zip file)
and it was good too cgo
I was even having some issues with stalled screens and so and that cleared up as well
If I had done this before attempting to flash the stock rom I might of been able to save friend files
But oh well

Thread closed as the answer can be found by searching. Also there are lots of threads about this same issue already.
It hasn't been long since I joined the Moto Z Play development and since then I was worried about the EFS. Because it's complex here in the SnapD Chipsets. So what I did was do an adb backup of the EFS partition but that's a lil tricky thing and trust me I couldn't have just enough faith.
So if you wanna backup the easy way. Download the attachment.
1. Put it in SD Card.
2. Flash via TWRP.
3. You'll see the options yourself.
It enables you to make an EFS(IMEI) backup and you can choose to store it on SD card or in the internal storage.
Just decreasing the access time for people here.
Download it from HERE.
Cheers guys! Happy flashing. ?

How did u manage to do that ? Can u please give a detailed guide ? Which ROM did u use ? My XT1650-03 IMEI is 0 and I don't have a EFS backup to use, I would really appreciate if u could give me this help, thanks in advance.
This working only when you lost the IMEI but the IMEI SV is a real number (for example 08) and you can call someone or use internet with mobile net ... The ROM is specific which Bootloader do you have, before you flash another ROM... When you get a Upgrade with the Bootloader Version, you can try the newest Factory Rom (with OTA) which you can remember, before you flash the other (Fastboot)ROM. But before you make it, you don't use the command for flashing the Bootloader in Fastboot Mode. Notice the Data from "fastboot getvar all" always and you get back your Phone easier to Stock Factory Status.
For a detailed Guide, look in my other previous posts, thanks.

Careful: that your currently installed ROM can't read your IMEI does not necessarily mean that it is lost! Most cases of lost IMEI occur when people think their IMEI would have been lost anyway and then overwrite EFS with wrong things.
can i flash it on my moto g5 plus..?
Well, backup is no problem, but restoring ends in a lot of errors. It's nothing urgent since I wouldn't have ever noticed that of I hadn't checked IMEI but still something that just should work
