It is really just a matter of taste. I have been using CM9, just my own kang. But I am not only addicted to flashing, but also to tinkering and building the source.
I think it is the most fun to roll your own.

Maybe he's trolling but I have to say I kind of agree. I don't have a full understanding of the process, but it seemed like it took cyanogen a really long time this time to reach a release candidate. And for me, ever since my Nexus one, cyanogen has always had a lot of reboots and freezes. At least in my experience. I'm sure somebody is going to report the exact opposite of my results but I figured I'd share anyways

I gave up on CM after my hero days. No disrespect but they are overrated. Usually always full of bugs.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium

I'm using CM9 and its good. Sometimes feels slow and battery drains crazily (compared to stock) but still good. I'm planning on going to Jelly Bean stock when OTA is out though. Slim ICS seems to be getting real good reviews.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app

Yes shark_on_land, like with so many other things, it's just you. Don't feed the troll, people!

He might be trolling or whatever but you have to kind of agree with him. I've tried CM7 and it was rather good. But when i've used CM9 I just get reboots with every kernel I use and little bugs here and there. Just stick to the unicorns...

i kinda agree with this,i only used the first two nightlies of CM9 then started switching to other ROMs including pixel rom, cyber gr,paranoidroid, and ended up using CyanUltra (which is very close to CM9) and when CM9 RC1 was released i came back to CM9 but not for a long time,am using the jelly bean port now.so i haven't used CM9 a lot or as a daily driver for long time.

Why, nowadays, no one can share an opinion about a random subject and ask people what they think about without being qualified as a troll ? Smart people... if you don't care about a question, if you don't like trolling (as you call that), why don't you just leave the topic and let the others share their thoughts ? Why is it so difficult for you to simply ignore these topics ? The op is only talking about a personal feeling in the "General" section... I don't feel like he's trolling... nor is the intention.
Maybe you feel smarter after posting the popular "don't feed the troll" sentence or what ?
I personally think he's right... in my own experience, Cyanogenmod is the ROM i flashed on every Android device until i got my Nexus S... I found others ROMs a lot more stable with many more interesting settings.

You do realize that they wanted to rewrite everything from scratch? There should be a stable CM9 soon. After that they will build CM10 upon CM9 and only work on CM7 and CM10. I've never had any serious problems with Cyanogenmod.
Why do you have to open up a new thread just for this?

I think its because he is known as a troll to some persons.

i don't feeling using both CM7 and CM9, because CM9, imho, isn't that stable and a small bit "bloaty" (same feeling to AOKP) so for ICS, i resort to any AOSP-built ROMs available
CM7, that laggy ADW dreaded me because i had to navigate through it at least for a few mins to install another launcher, some few bugs and again, the "bloaty" feeling

I feel it's a legitimate question, though. I have been using CM since my G1 days. After I got my Nexus and ICS, I really didn't want to bother with anymore features as it had what I needed pretty much. The only thing still missing were the status bar toggles, and Bugless Beast offered that next to an almost stock experience. My G2 still has CM7 on it because it's rock solid and offers everything I need(come on, call blacklist FTW!). It's all about preference at the end of the day and choice is Android's biggest strength.

What's funny is you guys say that CM9 isn't all that good but on the Epic 4G its fricking great. Stock Epic 4G I got 6 hours on battery. Once I had rooted and pushed CM and then Kernel if I felt like it. My phone would last 24 hours with moderate usage. Heavy usage was like 15 to 18 hours. And it would last 2 days with minimal.
And thats really good for the Epic 4G.
On the NS4G its backwards I had gotten better battery life on Stock. I've tried several ROM's and get worse battery life. So Strange

Aokp is what cm used to be. Not sure what happened but all-out of the customization that cyanogen used to have is gone. It's not just you. I have multiple devices and cm just isn't as popular as it used to be.

Me, definitely. I used CyanogenMod 7 and 7.1 on my Nexus One, and then for a while on my Nexus S. When ICS came out, I couldn't wait, and I refused to use nightly after trying a few times with bad experiences. The RC came out, I flashed it, saw it had issues, then reflashed my Nandroid backups.
I guess the wait was worth it. I got so tired of every ROM out that that I'm making my own, and am gaining useful skills in the process.

See, i remember running cyanogenmod early early builds on my G1 and later magic and they were great on that. When i finally came to the nexus S i realized i love stock android.. Then i started flashing air kernel and slim ics and nightly builds of CM9. But in reality it took them awhile to release the RC, i mean it was like a week or two ago it made the post page in development.. It should have been done like 6 months ago so we could have enjoyed it while waiting for JB.

Hey Guys,
First off to everyone that has left or is on a leave, thanks for what you did.
Now, I am looking for some POSITIVE news. I did read that Rob decided to stick with an Epic (love that, Rob is awesome). What else is coming down the pipe? Everyone thinks CM7 will never come, I know its getting worked on, I have tried it, and hope that comes through. What is Bonsai or Viper up to? They both do awesome work. Any new devs out there cookin up some goodies?
I guess I am sick of the looking back, and want to know what you all are looking forward to?
This phone rocks! I just got 42 hrs battery life with the ebay 3500 using SFR and the EE03 Modem. I cant upgrade for a while, so I am going to like this phone.
Thanks for reading and, and I am interested to hear what you all are looking forward to.
PS - we know Z-Man the puzzle lock screen. Which I heard is rolling out...

Bonsai....
Thats basically it.
Although i am REALLY looking forward to the Hangover Part II

You know, even though ACS (or ICN) is gone, it doesn't mean this community has depleted. We lost two amazing devs (k0nane and mysteryemotionz), but that should not bring us down! In fact, I bet you if a bunch of the other devs like Rob and Mammon and marcusant, etc. all were to make a new team, I'm sure we could make some pretty sick ROMs. And remember, we still have CM7 in the works by nullghost, DevinXtreme, Dameon, awesome kernels by thomasskull and DRockstar...so just remember, this community still has tons of potential left.

I'm honestly not sure the fate of sr111 120 but as soon as me and jez2cool get more function from our google 2.3.4 build which is the os on the nexus, we will bring everyone in on that and we're trying but I'm a but tied up with the nexus s as well so blame me and the kernel for that delay

My two cents - I dont get people and the "oh, what do I do now?" thing. k0nane and Mystery did some great work, but dont leave it up to other people to do the stuff you want done. I spent a lot of time working with a developer learning linux, and how to compile and tweak kernels, because I wanted to make my own(and understand what I was doing). I spent a lot of time chatting with a themer because I wanted to make my own theme. If you want something done, stop waiting for someone else, and get out there and start learning.
so what happened to viper team. the last rom was pretty sick and i really like the viper pad it works very well when you are using the samsung dock and everytime you go to do something else the music would stop playing thur the usb

Rom Recommendation - Girl

So my girlfriend has been complaining how she is getting a bit bored of her Droid Incredible so i thought I thought i would come to you guys for some suggestions on what rom I should throw on for her that'll breath a bit of new life into her phone. I was thinking of just throwing on Cyanogenmod 7 on it, but after checking out the Dev forum i was BLOWN away with just how much you guys have to choose from. ( kinda jelous )
But is there anything better for her? She has no tech skills and will not really want anything to tinker with. But I'm think a new rom will stop her complaining till its time for an upgrade. So what do you guys suggest? Should I just throw on Cyanogenmod or one of the 100 other ones?
We both thank you.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
I'd say CM7 then look up some girly themes she could switch between. If she isn't too attached to the sense UI it should be a pretty easy transition.
Cm7 would probably be a good choice if for no other reason, stability. That's not saying that other roms aren't stable. I really enjoy sense roms but she may not like those.
I would also throw incredikernel on her phone so if she needs to overclock or get better battery life, she will be able to.

My wife is running Kingdom Sense stock, it's nice eye candy. My wife has not complained about anything yet, sense 3.0 aspects are really nice. Watching a few other builds too, they are making progress.
Miui because it's very pretty, fast, and stable! it adds a new feel to the phone, kind of like getting a new phone.

Agreed, your GF will probably like MIUI with all the unique and elegant themes. CM7 is another popular choice that shouldn't be overlooked.

I just flashed MIUI for the first time and an impressed. For sense based rom, can't go wrong with Sky Raider. There is a maintenance release coming out soon for it.
Try Skyraider 4.0
Stable, and everything works, have been running it for over a week.

Ill say you can try supper z since she is already dealing with sense and that rom is a Z based rom.. is very stable and fast and has a lot of new things that the sense 1.0 lack of.. an example is the camera is really better than the one found in the stock and although I have try almost all the roms in this forum I keep going back to this one...
thats my opinion... hope you find something good to make your GF happy..
Being a long time CM7 user, I flashed SkyRaider 4.0 over the weekend and have to say that for a Sense ROM, it's VERY nice. Smooth, fast and stable.
Show her some screenshots of each rom or skin
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Been using Skyraider for the past month and it has been great, no issues. But if she is bored with the stock phone, skyraider is not going to seem majorly different. Lots of cool stuff from a tech perspective, but a non-techie user looking for a new phone of sorts... CM7 is going to have a different feel with a more vanilla android interface and gingerbread. Also a Seidio 1750mah slim battery is a great breath of life into an older incredible. Battery life is always a happy maker.
Cheers,
Rob
My wife loves her iphone, which makes it mainly not my problem ;-)
I recently picked up a 3500mAh battery and I love it. It feels stronger as well

Take her to the "post your screenshot" thread and the "skins for Sense 2.0" thread, and whichever one she points out as her fave just get that
***... of course, you'll have to look carefully at what rom supports what, but thats not hard
I would have to say a rpm such as Uber Gingersense. The features and integration as well as user-friendly feel Sense 3.0 brings is unmatched.

Miui all the way!
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I would say MIUI or stock. For me My wife is confused enough by the stock one and I dont want to mess her up any more then she already is. But I would probably put MIUI on since it is most like the iPhone which is very very very simplistic (why I would not ever move to an iphone). But it would also make her feel like she has an iphone and can compare with her friends.
My 2 cents.

My EVO hates AOSP!

My phone seems to hate AOSP roms. I have tried every major aosp rom out on the EVO and everyone makes phone overheat and the reboot! I haven't seen anyone else experience this but I can confirm that it doesn't do it with sense roms...... FML. I really like aosp too

Have you tried the three different kernels? {godmode, tiamat, savaged-zen}
Are you sure that it's overheating? Because random reboots are a standard problem with most if not all ASOP roms. CM7 especially but I also had it with others. You are just using it and BAM spash screen again. I do not think it's heat related though. In all while i love the better battery life and added features, ASOPs have all just been too glitchy for me, especially when it comes to hardware control. No 720p Video recording and a 9 step program to get GPS "fixed"? No thanks.

I don't know what the issue is, I have had no problems with aosp on my EVO... Currently running cm7 with the cm7 kernel and have had no issues, maybe try using SetCPU and setting up some profiles to tweak things.... I know something similar is in the rom but I love SetCPU.... I can't remember my last random reboot and I've been running aosp for months, love the freedom it offers you

Especially when it's true. Random reboots happen all the time in CM7. You can't deny it, because you don't own my phone. I get them constantly. There's still no 720p video recording either, the videos i take look horrible on my 55 inch. And the GPS which has been *fixed* multiple times now STILL isn't working correctly on CM7 for at the very least some of us, myself included. I like CM7 I try it at least once a month hoping they've fixed it. So far they have not so I keep dropping it again.
No overclock at all and yes all kernels do the same once my phone gets to 113*F it reboots anything below that and no reboot found out its due to hboot 2.10

Try a rosie-less Sense rom
I've tried many different asop roms, and even considering VaelPak may be one of my favorite roms ever due to customization and stability, I always run into GPS or some other radio issues. Though lacking customization, even though I feel Sense 3.0 greatly makes up for it, I would recommend the brand new Syngergy-Kingdom 7/12 Nightly(if you could even call it that, because it is the most stable and speedy rom of the series yet). Just make sure to superwipe, then wipe all in wipe list(amon 2.3) and then flash it. Others have reported issues but I believe that is due to not fully wiping their device. Enjoy, it's a really flashy rom with the speed and stability needed to enjoy it. You can choose to have rosie or not, but personally I like no rosie due to it being a resource hog and the LP dock having 5 functions. To include rosie, make sdcard/SynergyRom/Rosie before flash of rom and you're set.
Sorry to bring an old post back to life, but didn't want to start up a new thread for this either. Mods, I can start a new thread if you think that is the best route to go.
I'm having the same issue of my phone appearing to get really hot and then rebooting. This wasn't always the case I know as I remember CM7.0 (not 7.1 or RCx) working without issue. It seems that at some point along the updates to CM, I started developing these overheat/reboot issues. I'm about at the end of my contract, so I don't have to put up with this much longer, but still very annoying. Has anyone tried taking apart their EVO to see if there is something clogging up the internals and contributing to the heat factor? I have considered the idea of just going back to stock/unrooting so I could have Sprint fix/replace the phone, but I hate to go through that hassle if there is some other solution to this problem.
Yeah I've run into these same types of issues pretty much ever time I've tried an AOSP rom. IMO up until recently sbc was the only tempting feature to use AOSP over Sense. Now we have sbc on gingerbread sense. Other than that I've experienced no extra features that were worth the headaches that came along with it. I never experienced stellar battery life with AOSP either, in fact I've had better results overall with good stripped down sense roms.

I wish it was a bit more stable but hey, whatcha gonna do lol. I went back to CyanogenMod 9.1 because I got sick of the bugs (I'm a perfectionist and I like everything working)
Sad that I had to go back to FC09, but otherwise its great!
Is there a page that breaks down what the nightlies have resolved? I have been flashing for over a week now and several issues are still there. Not that I expect them to fix them all instantly, but just to let them know what they are in a noncomplainy way. It is a great ROM, way smoother than CM9 was for me.

Yeah, ummmmm... I THINK I'm in that thread. All 67 (so far) pages of it. Hoping someday I'll find it. Thank you.
Been running the 9/11 nightly and loving it. So smooth!

CM10 is vast improvement over CM9!!!!!!!!
CM10 is fast, responsive and smooth! It is like owning a totally new phone!
It feels like ICS was vista and JB is like Windows 7!
^^^THIS^^^
Indeed and CM7 is like XP. Old faithful and hard to get rid of.

I had issues with CM9. I can't remember all of them but I only used it fro a couple of weeks and switched away. When I installed CM10 unofficial alpha 5 I (I think it was) I was in love. I have run it for 3 weeks and love it. GPS took forever to lock but that was my only complaint. I installed the latest CM10 tonight that has the CM boot animation and I assume CM's own tweaks instead of being stock JB and they switched one thing that will drive me crazy. They have the touchkeys backlight turning off after 5 seconds or something like that. I really want them on any time the screen is on. If they allow me to change that I will be a happy man.
That's the way the lites work on stock. out after no activity for 5 secs.

The Official CM10 nightlies have been great for me until the first 0918, could not flash. Flashed 0918.1 just fine, but lost modem after 5 hours. Running CM10 nightlies, stock modem fc09.
Very grateful for the time and dedication that all the developers put forth to provide a fun and current phone for us.

Umm, the changelog is in the very first post of that thread. It's not that hard to find.

Yes, I realized that while I was looking. Unfortunately the changelog makes very little sense to the end user.

remember everyone's craving for jellybean?

does everyone remember the hype up to jellybean? where everyone was checking the "jellybean thread" every hour of the day to see if there was any update or news on the release. now it seems that it has released everyone is *****ing about how much it sucks.
personally, i dont have any problems with jellybean; I was fine on ICS but JB has been nice to me also. does anyone else find this totally ironic?
Yes, it's ironic. Jelly Bean 4.1.1 is by far the worst and most bugged Android version I've ever used on my Nexus S.
Just to play devil's advocate: I love jelly bean! Peace out!

I freaking love jellybean. Best update to date. I average 10-15 hours battery life. 3hr 54 min screen time was a record for me on minimum brightness. JELLYBEAN ROCKS.

you must be doing something wrong, or are using the wrong rom/kernel?? nothing but silky smoothness here, bug free.

Its still good battery life for me compared to other devices I've owned.

Everything will be great when people realize that smoothness and battery does not play well. My phone lasts from morning till when I go to bed, what more could I ask for? JB is much, much smoother than ICS, and I have no idea what bugs are in it. It's absolutely bug-free

Jelly bean is awesome just remember it wasn't till 4.0.4 that the true smoothness came for ICS ... I run aosp builds more stable... Just remember it's only been a couple months give it time... If you don't like it go back to ICS... Not to be rude...

i wasnt around here when ICS came out I started off when JB was almost out so I dont know how it was then. But it was crazy how ridiculous people were acting for the release of jellybean. So much hype and excitement and now people are *****ing and whining about how buggy and slow it is lol. They must be doing something wrong with their phone
Also, the nice thing about Jelly Bean is when, sometimes, you get black squares instead of widgets when you scroll homescreens, then you open the app drawer and it's completely black.

I'm pretty sure that's when u first turn the phone on and its scanning for SD card problems.. I've had that happen but it was scanning for SD card problems

I found it to mainly happen in low-mem situations... it's a sort of rendering bug, I've to start some apps (i.e. Play Store) to fix it.
P.S.
It's similar to this: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=37627
Man you guys are having off the wall issues with jellybean.
Steps I took after the update
1. Download update
2. Let it do its thing
3. Let sit for 10 minutes
4. Reboot into stock android recovery
5. Wipe data 3 times
6. Wipe Cache 3 times
7. Reboot system
8. Let sit for 5-7 minutes
9. Restore Market apps via the Google play store
10. Done
This worked wonders with aftermarket ROMs as well. But it works just as good for the stock ota update.
Proof of concept:

I am a very very very heavy user. Screen time was 3hrs 54mins. This was on the stock ROM and stock battery

I remember the hype for jellybean and those 4 days of non stop checking, but what i think people are letting it get to their head.
We have a 2 year old phone which in the phone world is more like 10 years of developing.
JellyBean is made for higher end, newer phones like gnex and nexus 7. Dual core and quad core processors with 1 gig ram makes a big BIG difference to 1 gig single core with 512mb ram. We think since we have the latest, newest software that we sometimes forget that the phone is turning 3 years old. I LOVE jellybean because it may be the last nexus s update and because google is taking the steps to knock out apple with google now and project butter and even widgets. For google to perfect a jellybean update for the nexus s would be a step back so at least google is keeping their promise with updating us because lets face it. If we didnt get jellybean we couldnt do anything anyway(except buy a gnex).
I visit the nexus 7 thread and few people complain about jellybean being crap.
As for the custom roms... We lost most of our devs to gnex forums and nexus 7 and pretty soon the new nexus.
nexus s rom making has become a hobby for some and gnex roms are the new priority.
Be happy that at least you have the jellybean update on a 3 year old phone.
There's kids in Africa who don't even have phones, or worse, you can be on an s2 with ICS.
