Saved links from development threads - HD2 Ubuntu Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and General

Since the threads on this forum are suffering from severe link rot, (with megaupload shut down and all), I am going to salvage what I can in this thread here. I can't post in the development threads, so you'll have to bear with me here for a bit.
Because of the sad state of download links under Android, as soon as I am able to, I will begin a drive to archive all Android development code for the HD2, and possibly other phones, to the Internet Archive. You can look at, and maybe join my effort here.
## [24 Jun][WIP][MAGLDR] Debian for HTC HD2 - v0.1 alpha
This one seems to be the most fertile, with MAGLDR support, Debian, and Enlightenment 17. However, the multiupload.nl link is malfunctioning, so I used this converter to salvage what I could.

This one used Megaupload, so it is completely shot. Thankfully, retsam88 had a backup of the ancient image! Thanks man.

## HD2 ToolBox app and linux Hot Bootloader
This is definitely something important. I'm not sure what it is though... Can it run HaRET images? Someone tell me.
Anyway, this link comes from Robbie P! Thanks man. It's in multiple parts though, and the man wants someone to reupload it to mediafire or something so he can free up space in his dropbox. Please help out.

Edit 7/25/12: Updated the debian for HD2 source code link to latest version.

As a super-paranoid anon, I am going to release wiki dumps of the HTC-Linux wiki as an extra here if needed. (it's mostly spam pages though, lol) This is created with the Wikiteam dump generator, and can be imported to any new Mediawiki setup.
Here it is: mediafire. com/?w6jwl31bbfnwnvg
(Yes, it is 1.01MB zipped, but it extracts to 66 MB...)

Nice Idea, antonizoon. I don't need dropbox space for now, so they can stay. I might even upload it to dev host if needed as I have no idea how many DLs there have been.
Keep it up

Building CM 5.02 from source... problems

Hi All,
Could some of developers who managed to successfully build CM 5.02 (or any 5.x) kernel from the source help me out with this?
* I checked out the Android 2.x kernel with repo
* Set the proper environment variables
* Checked out Cyanogen's source from github
* Set buildspec.mk and extracted proprietary files
* Copied config.gz from phone to .config
* Executed /build/envsetup.sh
make runs for good 10+ minutes and compiles tons of files, but it stops with this error:
make: *** No rule to make target `vendor/htc/common-open/akmd/proprietary/akmd', needed by `out/target/product/passion/system/bin/akmd'. Stop.

What am I doing wrong?
Did I forget to fetch or configure something?
Many thx!
Also, maybe I am asking for too much - but it would be really great if someone who already did complete and sucessful build could write a small wiki (or forum?) tutorial how to build Nexus One Cyanogen ROM from scratch starting from empty Linux setup - it would really help lots of people as right now there are several documents with some of them outdated.
update - looks like something went wrong with fetching proprietary files. I re-done it and it is now compiling for more than 30 minutes...
I hope it will complete successfully this time

i posted basic instructions on building cm5-source in cm-wiki.
i'm not sure what you plan to do, compile the whole rom (as thats what you do) or just a kernel (sounds like what you want) ?
It succeeded this time!
It looks like something was indeed wrong when I pulled the files from the phone first time. So the wiki info is good
I would like to compile everything actually and to play a bit with compiler options / configurations and also test the undervolting a bit more (lower voltages - for this kernel build is sufficient)

cbackup v0.4 - backup/restore tool

I've been a lurker since I got my eris back when root was a dream. Now I have quite a few things floating around my work dirs that aren't on xda or are wanted, so I figured I would start releasing some of my better/more polished things. So here is my first:
cbackup v0.4
Based upon craft_backup v0.5.3: showthread.php?t=628743 (sorry no links)
Backup and restore apps/data just like craft_backup
Changes/Features of cbackup:
- Change names to cbackup and crestore because I got tired of typing out "craft_backup" and "craft_restore"
- Move backup dir to /sdcard/backups/cbackup/*
- For cbackup, allow a choice for destination in backup dir (defaults to cb<date>)
- For cbackup, automatically move backup dir to timestamped location instead of overwriting it
- For crestore, display menu of all cbackup dirs along with original craft_backup dir if it exists. This menu has the latest last, numbered first with number 1 being the default.
- Works with roms that don't have the busybox symlinks installed
Changelog:
v0.3
- First public release
v0.4
- Fix problem when missing bb symlinks
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for damage caused by this app. I take no credit for the good work done on craft_backup, I just wanted something it didn't do so I hacked it up to suit my needs. Eventually it became nice enough to share. I will not support it, unless there is something wrong with my added code (which is possible, since the listing code is complex). Refer to the original app's thread for almost all problems.
nXuaJunYYc
Testing it now.
EDIT: WORKS PERFECTLY- 5 STARS.
Crestore- not found.... help?
I assume you're running "crestore" and not "Crestore" nor "Crestore-". Can you post the output of:
echo "$PATH"
from adb shell?
If that's fine, I think I know what may be wrong, but try that first
edit:
I'll be uploading a new version in a minute that I think will fix your problems, but if it doesn't, if you could also try the following it would be helpful:
# which crestore
# which sed
# echo abc | sed -es/a/d/
# ls -l /system/bin/crestore
# ls -l /system/bin/cbackup
# /system/bin/crestore
So I got it to find it, but it says not found for everything. Also comes up in Italian no matter what, but no biggie.
or use the eris master app, which can do most of that right now. the good thing is that its in a gui interface. jamezelle and i will be adding additional features later for the backup / restore apps as well. and one thing that we will have shortly is the ability to restore market update links for apps installed outside of the market.
@ECLIPS3:
Sorry, I'm a command line guy and I'm a linux guy. I really don't want to install wine and mono on my poor little linux netbook just to run your app and then navigate a gui. Plus these scripts run entirely on the phone, so you should be able to run them anywhere with only your phone (maybe even using terminal on the phone...haven't tested that yet). And before we start a war, I'm not saying that there is anything with wrong with your app, and I'm sure it has/will help a lot of people who want the easy gui, but it wasn't for me, and I thought other people may feel the same way. There's no reason both apps can't exist. I also appreciate you letting people know in this thread so the less cli-oriented people know their options.
@Erisftw:
That is really strange if it's continuing to not give you a choice for language. Are you sure you flashed the latest one that I uploaded (cbackup-v0.4-signed.zip)? And that you made your backup either using v0.4 or using v0.3 on a phone with busybox properly installed. If so could you copy and paste the first ~20 lines of output from crestore, and let me know if you are on windows or linux?
dont worry, not trying to start a flame war at all. i love diversity and competition as it creates better programs to arise, that ultimately are better for the end user. theres plenty of room for everyone here. i love CLI as well, but not a lot of people do. arent you glad this is a free world to have competition?
Changed to 4, restored. fine, but it has old rosie, and when you click on the app, it says app no longer installed.

[22/12/10][SUSPENDED] IcedCube GingerHD2 [Rooted][Experimental][MDJ Kernel]

PLEASE READ THIS POST AND UNDERSTAND IT CLEARLY BEFORE USING THIS ROM!
Heyo,
This ROM is now a port of the Nexus S Gingerbread ROM leak for the HD2. I would like to make it clear that this ROM may be unstable and not for everyday use! Since we're using a version of Android designed for a different device, we may have issues. The leaked build I'm using is available here - some modding is required though.
Starting from 0.05, my builds come with a 96MB Data.img file to get you out of trouble. I will provide data.img files that are 128MB, 256MB, 512MB and 768MB in size. You can make your own image via a terminal on Linux like this (don't type the dollar sign or the stuff behind it)
Code:
[email protected]:~$ dd if=/dev/zero of=/path/to/Android/folder/data.img bs=1M count=128M
[email protected]:~$ mke2fs /path/to/Android/folder/data.img
(answer 'y' to the question when mke2fs says "data.img is not a special block device, proceed? [y,n]")
Installation
Extract the "Android" folder in the ZIP file below to your MicroSD Card, pop it into your HD2, open File Explorer from WinMo, find the Android folder, tap CLRCAD.exe and then Haret.exe and watch the sparks fly.
For patches, extract the files in the patch archive to your MicroSD Card, overwriting any existing files.
Downloads
You can download the ROM from my server below. Please don't use download accelators, they will make my VPS cry...
LATEST VERSION IS 0.5, PLEASE DO NOT USE OLDER VERSIONS AS YOU WILL BE ASKED TO UPGRADE IF YOU SAY SOMETHING IS NOT WORKING ON THOSE OLDER BUILDS!
Version 0.01 > Get the goodness here! <
Version 0.02 (Patch only, download v0.01 first!) > Get the goodness here! <
Version 0.03 (Only a data.img for people who are having boot problems) > Get the goodness here! <
Version 0.05 > Get the goodness here! <
Version 0.05 requires 7-Zip to extract
Disclaimer
If I used any of your works and I did not acknowledge you, I am not claiming your work as my own. That would be the wrong thing to do (and I am not intending to "kang" any sources). I am also not responsible if your device is bricked or broken by direct or indirect use of this ROM.

+ Switched to Nexus S ROM Base
+ Replaced Nexus S default GL drivers with the ones for the HD2
+ Working Radio - SMS & Texts should work...
v0.0.4 - 10/12/10 - R.I.P, I totally fudged up v0.04 SDK Sources. Stupid me!
v0.0.3 - 10/12/10 - Patch 2
+ Basic data.img only for people with boot problems. Only use with older releases, don't use it with v0.0.3+ builds.
v0.0.2 - 8/12/10 - Patch
+ Switched kernel to m-deejay's kernel for working 3G Connection, data should work.
+ Fast bootup speed.
[!] Black Screen of Death occurs if you allow the device to go to sleep.
NOTE: BSOD can be fixed temporarily, see below.
[!] Erratic behaviour occurs if you haven't PIN unlocked your SIM Card before booting this ROM.
[!] Can take a while to do things, ie. very laggy.
[!] Black screen after HTC logo, no android logo.
[!] Keyboard comes up as white space (?)
... Possible other things that are buggy or whatnot.
v0.0.1 - 8/12/10
+ First release. Boots somewhat and then has problems.
Temporary Fix for BSOD in sleep (present in v0.0.3 and below)
After pressing power button once, press and hold power button till vibrate, then press back button. May take a few attempts but persistance is key.

excellent work,at less we can have a try for 2.3,thanks.keep working on 2.3
As I've said, you won't get into the Android UI, but if you can confirm that the kernel is getting stuck at "init: untracked process X exited unexpectedly", that would be appreciated.
Nice work, thanks for sharing. The init.rc file you mention is linked to a pastebin link in the original dump thread. Should be easy to search.

GNU/Linux on SM-P6XX, What is your experience installing / using ?

Please let us know something about what you installed; how you did it; what works, what doesn't; which tools/apps work best.
My only problem at the moment is a persistent disk (sd card) crash. Anyone else see this ?
I will post a guide/notes for my current installation. I can make some files available if anyone wants them.
I use debian-kit with modifications:
* Install armhf instead of armel (hardware floating point)
* Debian testing distribution. It is actually quite stable.
* We can use a larger loop disk image, because the internal sdcard on SM-P600 is ext4.
* Replacement resolve.conf daemon for tracking the Android nameserver configuration. The
original one does not work for me.
* Script for starting xrdp. Original does not work for me.
* Mod to install multiple distributions. e.g Ubuntu, debian, different distribution, different arch.
Start them with e.g. "deb1", "deb2", ... I only do this hoping that one of them is stable. No
luck yet, but I ordered a new sd card; we'll see
* xrdp disconnects every time you copy to the x clipboard. E.g. killing text in emacs. I made a one
line patch to xrdp to fix it. I installed the new binary to /usr/local rather than building a new xrdp package.
I can supply the patch or binaries. I reported this upstream, but it was first reported four years ago.
I could add some of these mods to Sven-Ola's kit. It is very well laid out and easy to build. He put a huge
amount of effort into it. But, I don't know if I can afford the time.
Packages to xrdp and resolv.conf
Here are some packages that can be used with debian-kit.
http://www.johnlapeyre.com/debian-kit/
I could not get the androresovld package to work. So, I made a new version of
andromize that does what the previous andromize did and installs a different version of androresolvd as well. The new androresolvd is included in the andromize package; no separate androresolvd package. It is all architecture independent. You will have to uninstall the original androresolvd package if you have it installed.
I also built the xrdp package with a fix for the clipboard-disconnect but, but only for debian armhf arch and testing distribution. So it may or may not work with what you have installed (eg wheezy armhf)
Both are only tested on my installation of debian armhf, not Ubuntu and not armel.

I've enabled adb by default if you know how could you take a logcat? Most of the time it refuses to leave the bootlogo because surfaceflinger can't aquire the screen which means it failed. Could be a missing file.
If no luck I can help this everning and take a logcat really busy at the moment

I'm backing up my stock rom now. I'll flash this and see what I can get.
---
I can't get adb to show anything and I can't get the device to show up on my pc. It is stuck before the boot animation, I don't think it has booted far enough for me to get anything.
This will not go into development section because I've found that there are many developers who join xda just because they have the device and don't have 10 post and can't post there yet. I like to allow a range of users to share info. With that in mind it's the weekend and I have time to work on this all day today till Monday
Priority one is get adb working I apparently uploaded the wrong build
Ok guys I may have did the dumbest thing , but I'm not sure I never actually learned what the hardware was ro.hardware. I assumed it was ardbeg but it could possible be
ardbeg . ardbeg_sata . laguna , norrin , or tn8 you can find this from terminal emulator or adb shell typing getprop ro.hardware
It can also be achieved via commandline adb shell cat proc/cmdline
On boot on the init checks ro.hardware and if it isn't found it won't load fstab.ro.hardware and nothing will mount . None of the *.ro.hardware.rc scripts will run. I figured this out when none of my attempts for touch in recovery worked or adb. I have reason to believe it's tn8 and ardbeg is generic for all versions
Essentially you have a tegra note 8 I assume that's what tn8 means please let me know what you find
