Android 4.1 Jelly Bean source code now available - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

well here is the announcement

and confirmation here

let the fun begin

Well, only as soon as Cyanogenmod 10 is released... It's a much easier update than before, and it better be, since CM9 will be phased out as soon as CM10 works well.
We're all counting on upstream developers in the end.

Good news, really looking forward to Project Butter & Google Now (w/ Voice) I woke up and checked my phone and noticed my trip to work had traffic and I was like sweet.

I run the paranoidandroid rom as my spare, since I've moved on from the HD2. But I still anxiously await JB on this beauty!

JB will be the best Version of Android so far

soooo here it is

Cannot connect to update server - Ice Cream Sandwich coming?

I noticed that I cannot connect to the update server today. It was working fine yesterday. Maybe it's down while the get an ICS update prepared??? Hopefully?
Wishful thinking right there. But I am keeping my fingers crossed that we will get ICS soon after the official release of it.
I hate to dash your hopes, but i'm guessing you've never had a samsung device before. We'll get ics sometime, but it will take a while to bake touchwiz into it.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
It will be months after the Nexus is released before any other device gets ICS. That's always the way it has been in the past.
Oh...oh well. I should just delete this post so I don't get anyone's hopes up.
but i thought the code was "one os that runs everywhere" .. so are they still going to bake touchwiz patches into it? i thought every tablet and the phone would look the same..
one more thing; are they going the release the nexus and the ice cream sandwcih or just going to announce it?
Our biggest hope of seeing ICS with in near future is Team Hacksung. hopefully there will be a CM version now when ICS source will be released. And that will be so F*****G SWEET!
If I know Samsung...
...it should arrive just before the next version is rolled out.
I love Samsung products but you just don't see timely updates.
It might be coming to the I/O version of the 10.1 as that has remained as pure Honeycomb.

actually Steve Kondik has several galaxy tab 10.1
so i expect that once ICS src comes to the public (usually a bit after the first device gets release) CM will start working on it...and that normally takes like a month or two for the firsts nightly
remember when GB came..it came in Nov and the firsts CM7 nightlies came in about Mid Jan..
So a long way to go..
I say by Feb next year we would get a better idea of where things are now is too too early LOL
I just hope we have a chance of getting it on our tabs =/
I hope I'll win the newyear lottery this year, probably more chance also.

Android 4.0 ICS for Hero??

Do you think think we will ever see 4.0 or would it be time to move on.
Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk
Yeah, certainly someone will make a rom or port it But it will probably take a long time before it runs good enough for everyday use and it will probably be a step back in performance from GB :/ But hopefully it will run okay eventually
I agree with Habarug. For now we can't tell for sure if it will or if it will not run on the Hero. Same debate was when Gingerbread sources came out... the Gingerbread was heavy on the hero, it was extremely slow for the first releases, but slowly it became faster and faster and by the latest CM releases it became extremely fast almost like Gingerbread was made for the Hero. At first ICS will be slow as **** but who knows maybe after the ICS sources come out and the devs will "cast their spells", ICS will work on our poor Hero.
Developers often do miracles!! I will pray for the 4.0 on my Hero, since I won't change phone until the new Quad-cores will come out..
Well looks like Feeyo over at the Cronos forums is going to try and get ICS on to the Hero but just like Gingerbread it will be slow for the first few build's.
if not the cpu, I would keep that phone for forever, perfect size, nice screen, resolution, colors.. Glad that it is not dead yet and new roms are coming out if not daily, then weekly. Guess there will be somebody playing on this device, hopefully will succeed

It has been done! The Developers made An exelent job!
There is a ROM but itțs under full development, so you have to wait some time before you can use a stable ICS rom.
I wish all the devs good luck with the new project
Stefan
Would be awsome..
..seeing ICS on my Hero, and I am willing to try and alpha or beta test existing ics Roms for Hero, heard that there is already an Alpha4 outside which is already able to make phone calls.
Looking forward to ICS.
I think the Hero is getting to slow for ICS, it's a real challenge to bring a good ICS rom to the Hero.
I'm just flashing a new rom to my Hero.
i think every dev working on it, and will be a usable 4 ,earlier than u think
I would be suprised if they make it stable and fast enough for everyday use. But fingers crossed.
is under development, there are already 4 beta!
Although Hero is already running ICS, it doesn't mean it should.
We saw a big improvement in performance and features from 1.5 to 2.1. However, the 2.2 improvements were minor and the 2.3 are already trade-offs... some things are better and some are worse.
ICS was designed for 2+ cores and GPUs, which Hero has none.
Definitly right, but sometimes it is just great to have things which are not meant to be.
Unfortunatley the Hero is getting old, but I 'll give him the chance to savor an IceCreamSandwich at least once ;-)
i dont see why our little hero's couldnt defy logic once more
well, the alpha 4 hasn't been updated for two weeks already. It is not going that smooth as you wish for
The Alpha 5 is out already, and I find this version quite fast. I advice everyone to try it if it's not your main phone. It made me quite happy seeing it work so fast.
Ice Cream Sandwich for Hero]
I've tried Alpha 5 and must say it's really optimistic
I made a "test" of ICS on the Hero on my blog : bheller.com/2011/12/15/jai-teste-ice-cream-sandwich-sur-un-htc-hero/ (in french, sorry mates!)
Quite funny to see the Hero still on the edge

Possibly Se working on android 4.0.4 for our xplay

I just read over at xperiablog.net, showing a leaked 4.0.4 rom for one of the 2011 devices. maybe a good sign of things to come. here is source http://adfoc.us/423185568398
Info link:
http://www.xperiablog.net/2012/05/15/latest-android-4-0-4-build-for-2011-xperia-devices-leaked/
I dunno if your link isn't showing up on my computer or if you accidentally left it off, but upon doing a google search in the last 24 hours, I can say this is news is TRUE in case anyone was wondering... how exciting, hope our awesome developers harp on this soon... although I don't hold out much hope for a CDMA version of the rom as there is no functional ICS rom based on Sony ICS leaks for r800x users yet... I'm just hoping that the reason verizon has not fixed the update to the 2.3.4 firmware is because they are planning and ICS release soon... but let's not kid ourselves, this is Verizon... anyway, exciting news none the less for the GSM r800s... you guys are lucky

will we see SDK port of Jelly Beans?

hi all the awesome developers
do you think anyone will manage to get a working SDK port on our device?
and a question: if HTC wont release a kernel for JB for our device, we will get stuck without camera or we could use the ICS kernel?
thanks, and good luck at porting

I'm betting that AOSP ROMs should be able to be ported with just an ICS kernel, much of 4.1 is UI improvements rather than deep changes like 4.0.

Most likely not. There are many under the hood changes that will not work without the proper source but to be honest. Why in such a rush, The ICS source is still a few months away

4.0 and 4.1 is totally different from 2.3 to 4.0 so you're completely wrong here.
The answer is. It is possible but someone needs to do it and most developers have moved on.

We will see. The notification bar alone will require massive work. Not to mention the changes they added to the kernel to support the tegra closed source drivers. So we will see what happens when the nexus gets the update.
Not to mention few will use the sdk to make a rom
Sent for a corner cell in Arkhum
so, there is a fully working rom for the galaxy nexus.
how will be our hero and port it?

aaand everyone gave up on ics cuz they saw the next item. did we get all the apple users to buy android phones or something?
btw porting from nexus is not gonna happen. jb is quite a ways off from dhd if at all. starting to push the limits of this old phone. and personally id rather have a perfect working ics coming soon than start up with another flakey and nothing really working alpha again.

we will have an official fully working ICS in a few weeks, and I think the AOSP ICS roms are good enough for daily use, so its just the right time to start working on JB!
It says here ........http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s3-jelly-bean-update-details-samsung-ram-98158/ ......that JB will be rolled out to 3 year old devices, some by July, and one of these is the Nexus S. So if the Nexus S will be capable of running JB we might even be lucky enough to see an official release for our DHD's by the end of the year maybe!!?? Atleast should get a decent port!! Looks more promising to see some Jelly Bean goodness than I first thought anyway!!

remember. ICS was released mid october, and we still dont have official yet :/
True, but ICS was a major change to Gingerbread whereas JB is supposed to be an incremental upgrade, so maybe if we do get it officially it will be a bit quicker getting to us than ICS!!?? Can always hope
LC said he is waiting for source, and then he will build a rom.
he also said JB is a small update to the source, so it wont be a problem to build a working rom. (or at least this is how I read it XD)
Our DHDs are due an official ICS rom in the coming weeks. Once this happens, surely it won't take long to get the camera fully working in ICS and JB update should merely be incremental. I'm not a dev though, so could be wrong.
I did the jellybean sdk port for iconia a500 and I happen to have a desire hd in my pocket maybe I'll mess with it

How is the speed compared to AOSP ICS?
Sent from the Going Merry
Wow, your good
If you debug, do you any good sign for the camera?

AOSP 4.1.1 released..Developers get ready and start your Engines.

Android Open Source Project lead Jean-Baptiste Queru announced on the official Android Building Group that Android 4.1.1, Jelly Bean has been released to AOSP. The release will be tagged as*android-4.1.1_r1 in AOSP, a slight bump in version number from the Google I/O 2012 developer preview*release. The “.1″ most likely represents a few last minute bug fixes or changes. The Android 4.1.1 binaries (JRO03C) have also been released for the*GSM Galaxy*Nexus*(maguro),*Verizon Galaxy Nexus (toro), *and new*Nexus 7*(grouper). The Nexus S and the Motorola Xoom will soon follow.*The full Jelly Bean source code can be download once it’s done uploading and replicating. JBQ estimates this will be around 9PM EST. Once complete, developers can begin downloading*here. What’s this mean for those that love to flash custom ROMs? First, be patient. It takes a long time to download and build Android. Second, amazing development teams such as CyanogenMod are*already on the job. Later tonight, they’ll begin doing what they do best, coding Android. We won’t see any official CM10 nightly builds just yet, so hold your horses. With that said, just because the CM is working on merging their changes into the Jelly Bean source, doesn’t mean that we won’t seen official, stock AOSP builds for the listed devices soon. The Android community never ceases to amaze us, we might just see a few ROMs pop up late tonight or early tomorrow morning. Keep your fingers crossed.
