Finally Open source is released on 4.1 - Nexus S General

I am super excited and looking forward to see what some of you brilliant developers on XDA are going to accomplish with this. Many thanks to you all.
here's the link
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/android-building/XBYeD-bhk1o
"Google has released the latest and greatest version of its Android mobile operating system, known as Jelly Bean, or Android 4.1 into the open source channel on Monday afternoon.
An announcement from Jean-Baptiste Queru, Google's head of the Android Open Source Project, officially opened availability of the Jelly Bean binaries Monday. Generally speaking, open sourcing is the very first step in broad availability for the newest build of Android, as this is the framework phonemakers use to build their respective versions of the operating system.
The team behind Android's most popular custom firmware, CyanogenMod, announced it is going to begin hammering the package out into ROM form as soon as possible. Work on a Jelly Bean release will not affect the RC2 and Stable releases of the Ice Cream Sandwich-based CM9."

Just read this on G+, it's a great news! Can't wait to have JB!

Real classy PM you sent. It's real nice to see that people still know how to be civil when they're wrong about something. I especially like your brilliant idea to use calling me gay as an insult.

Keep this crap outta xda all together. You guys are supposed to be grown ass men, and u act like babies. So what if there's a hundred threads in the Gen section about jb. If the mods wat it closed, they'll close it. And to the op, thank you for the info, but the fact that there was one thread the second they announced it was why I didn't start another one. Damn guys, were supposed to be helping each other grow as a community w a common goal. Not acting like a bunch of kids. It'll be all right. Give each other a hug, and relax. Go flash something. @Xbox, fergie needs a tester for miui on the ns4g. It'll her your mind off this crap. I heard tcd is gonna update that other one tonight to. All the b.s like this is why its so hard to find tcd. Xbox, I'll see ya there.

check the miui thread under dev... we are trying to raise money to donate an epic to either cyanogen mod or some other good dev willing to work on the epic.. i will make a thread soon but all donations will help and maybe make us one step closer to cm7/miui.

I smell smokescreen. I mean if the Fascinate can get CM7 running, exactly why not the Epic? They say it's "different" but if you can get CM7 running on the only other CDMA based Galaxy S device, it can't possibly be that hard to get it onto the Epic (keyboard too hard to deal with or something? lol!). They just don't want to try, pure and simple.

im pretty sure cyanogen would love to work on our devices .. after i offered him a epic 5 times via twitter and no response ,,, i already given up on cm7 and i don't support it either .. hope we can soon but by the time that happens cm8 would already be out lol

[OFFTOPIC] Bugless Pete's ROM thread locked

I have seen it all. An admin locked his thread for not listing baseband and Android version. The Android version is on the thread title
Ruffmeister - bouncing off cell towers with SDK Ice Cream Sandbitch - Yawn!
BTW the ICS thread has no more information than this thread..

Perfectly cromulent ;p

I saw this earlier, such crap. The admin claims that XDA members needed to register to see the link at his site, but not once did I register and I saw any link I wanted on his site. What a joke.
Wow, I have never had to register to pull anything from his download page. Why isn't the 4G thread shut down. They are basically the same thing?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G
This is complete bs, Bugless Pete is one of the best developers out there and doesn't deserve this. All the information the mod wants is in the thread...not to mention the title, his github, and website which btw you don't have to register to use. It's kinda ironic considering the thread the mod links to in his signature which proclaims such things as "XDA IS a place to come to learn and share your knowledge. If you are not here for those reasons then you are here for the wrong ones." "XDA is a developers site" "XDA is and always will be about the developers." ...just like Rem3Dy said...might as well tell the best devs to go elsewhere.
Kinda glad the xda staff are slowly ruining the site..... rootzwiki ftw

Yep. And if you are referring to the ROM in the general discussion, you have to register @ androidcentral to download it.
On Pete's site he tells you that you can get his ROM from ROM manager, toolbox, etc.

Basebands
Android version

The link to my site does not require registering, its a free open blog (made with blogger).
Changelog can be seen on my site, github, and I mention what changed in post as I update.
Basebands are not included in ROMs.
Android version is in the title of my thread.
Now that my thread is locked I can not edit it, so how do I get my thread unlocked?

I also checked two or three other ROM threads and they either don't have a change log listed or else a baseband listed. If you're going to lock threads at least be consistent. Seems like a witch hunt.
edit: The more I look into this the more upsetting it is. I see at least 2 threads in development that don't even deal with the ROM development, just discussion about them. Shouldn't they be in general discussion? Hell CyanogenMod doesn't even list a baseband. /rant

ICS on NS4G

I noticed that even though the ICS source code is now available Google only has Android 2.3.7 drivers for the Nexus S 4G's internal hardware (CDMA/WiMAX, Orientation Sensor, etc) available currently. Is it possible to compile a working version of ICS using the Android 2.3.7 drivers for the Nexus S 4G? Also, if I follow Google's compile instructions to the letter is there an easy way to backup my current stock ROM? Google's official stock ROM's for the Nexus S 4G phone has a script called "install-recovery.sh" that runs on boot removing Clockwork. Am I correct in assuming that ICS would do this if I compiled it myself per Google's instructions and flashed it to my phone?

This isn't dev section material... And there are already working builds of ics if you don't want to go through the hassle of doing it yourself...
Although! If you do compile your own, then post it in our lovely dev section.
Follow the leader @corythug
I'd rather compile my own. As stated in my original post I just need a couple of questions answered first. Otherwise there won't be any new ROM's from me in your so-called lovely dev section.
This will be moved once a mod sees it, but, next time know this. People will be more apt to help you out if you put a thread like this in q& a or even maybe general instead of mucking up dev forum with a non dev thread.

OP, I apologize for the others lack of decorum on this site. I am afraid that I am not much help, but I have a couple of suggestions:
As far as the backup, you can make a nandroid and once you are done playing around you can reboot into the boot loader and use the fastboot to reload the recovery onto the phone. From there you can re-install the nandroid backup. Keep in mind that you might want to copy the backup off of the SD card just in case you need to lock/unlock the phone. (This erases the sd card.)

TBH I think everyone already knows that the Cyanogenmod team is doing what they always do. So nothing new about this. Most people are just too lazy to follow the members on twitter or keep up with their tweets. It's nothing to get excited about yet. Who knows how long it is going to take them to get us a flashable update anyways. Could be this month, could be 4 months down the road, we just don't know. This is nice although it would've been better placed in the general sub-forum.
I was looking foward to firefox OS when I first heard about it but now I am a bit disappointed. It has the look of IOS but it seems to just be a copy of Android. I was hoping for something original like WebOS or even BB10. If thats the case, why even bother coming out with this?
Although I am sure that Mozilla will try (and even succeed) in making FFOS faster than android, i doubt it will ever receive the same amount of support as android so I will most likely never buy an FFOS phone. Also I love all of the google apps on android.
Only time will tell if mozilla's new OS has real potential.
