Can't Lower Brightness - Acer Iconia A500

I bought my A500 earlier this year used. It came stock HC 3.0.? and I've since updated THE OTA ICS, and just rooted/unlocked bootloader today. Since I've had it, I haven't been able to change the brightness from full. I've been getting by with screen filter, but my battery life is crap. Is there anyone out there who has the ability to do anything about this? I'm sure sending it to Acer would cost about the same as replacing it because I wasn't the original owner.

I assume you've already tried doing a full wipe of the data and cache...?

Yeah. I did a full wipe when I first realized the problem and right after installing ICS.

Have you tried an app from the play store? I really like the widget for Brightness LevelDisc. I know this would be a work around but it also might jar something into place.

I tried it with the stock HC when I got it, but it didn't do anything. Now that I'm ICS rooted, I'll try it when I get home from work.

Tried it, no dice.

Phone rebooted twice today

I'm wondering why this is happening, it has done it before but 2 times within 3 hours. I'm beginning to worry... Any ideas?
Oddly enough it seems to do it right when I pick it up to use it.

I had mine reboot on me today as well, it's the stock rom with root. I didn't pick it up. It happened while I was tethered using the free Wireless Tether App and the phone was asleep.
Yea, I don't even have root.. it has done it 2 more times since my first post.

Just a guess, but check the battery temperature.

Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
No OTA, no root, no ROM. sorry for the delayed response, passed out last night
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Probably was just hot at those times and just rebooted. I don't think you should be too worried

one of my co-workers has been having the same issue. (completely stock as well). Mine has rebooted a handful of times, at least once that was possibly at the exact time as my co-worker's. He's called in enough that they are offering to replace the phone.
Me Too
My phone has been rebooting more and more recently. I suspect it is very poor signal causing the phone to work too hard, triggering a reboot. My will get to 109 degrees for no particular reason, and then start rebooting.
My warranty replacement (refurb) is expected today.

Boots Into Recovery After Battery Dies

So 4 times now i've let the battery fully discharge and charged the phone overnight, turned it on the next morning and its in recovery? First thought was it was because when I was having issues with the market but my market app has been working without any problems since removing updates.
Is there a setting I need to change or is there an underlying problem that is rearing its head.
Running GB rooted, never had any ROMS pretty much just rooted thats it.

I believe it's supposed to do that. I think it's a sort of fail safe system that comes from the hijack process used in the Droid 2/X Bootstrapper.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Interesting because it never did that before for the whole time i've been on GB.

New Update From Samsung

My tab just popped up with a screen stating that there is a update available and I am already on official TW.

Lucky you atleast your getting an updateb
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA Premium App
I installed that update yesterday. I don't kmow what is was supposed to fix, and I haven't noticed any differences though. I couldn't be fixing that much as the update is only 3.3 MB.
it was supposed to fix some screen issue for those with broken screens. I heard those with rooted tabs shouldn't update this as it could result in a brick
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
The strange thing is only a portion of people reported that issue and some others reported that their screen is fine
so whats the difference from this update? its like no need for me to update...
Sent from my GT-P7510
Loaded on my rooted tab with no (so far that I'm aware of) issues.
I also installed this update on a rooted stock tab and had no issues.

With every electronic gadget using Lithium-ion batteries nowadays, it doesn't really matter how/when you charge it.
Some would argue to make sure to allow a full discharge from a full charge from a battery calibration point of view, so the battery meter is more accurate. It wouldn't affect the health of the battery itself either way.
Things like memory effect doesn't apply to lithium-ion. How often you charge it and how much you charge it (full or partial charge etc.) doesn't affect it much either. The only 2 things that can potential kill a lithium-ion is high temperature and letting it discharge far too low to the point that it cannot be charged up again. Note that all electronic devices will power off way before it even reaches this threshold.

Read this in a different thread when i was unboxing my nexus 7, i let mine sit for a while on the charger before i turned it on, but it came charged already. So far i have not let my nexus drain to 0% and the battery life on it is great, it can go for a entire day.

I too just got one. May be came out of the box with 4.2. After I signed in I checked for an update manually, and it immediately upgraded to 4.2.1. I then rooted immediately! Battery has been impressive so far.

No luck for me i guess it shows that there is an update it downloads it and boot into recovery attempts to install but then an android robot laying down whit his chest open and a red triangle appears ?

Sounds like it may be a corrupt download. Unless you plan to remain on the stock ROM just unlock/root it and then install what ever ROM you like.

Yeah, I get this if I don't flash a rom for a few weeks. In other words, cleaning out the cache can help.

I had this problem on my tf300t. I am running kitkat omnirom and cm11. I can run either.
The sleep of death was 100% caused by a faulty sd card. Not sure if it was file(s) or the card. Fixed the problem in both Omni and CM.
Backup your card to your computer.
Erase/Format it using the system you are on.
Verify that the SOD problem is gone.
That has happened several times to me too. Completely stock. Formatted about 3 weeks ago. Has not done it until just now. went to check it and it won't come on. Have to wait til I get home and put it on the charger. I just charged it last night. Maybe I didn't connect it right. Well update when I know for sure.

Did you try to hold the power button down for more than 10 secs, then release it? But time it, seems awfully long...
So far that always fixed it for me.

Ouch. $92 that's abit expensive. Perhaps you should had consider to topup abit more to get a new Memo FHD 16GB. It is about $250 at amazon.
I just got an email from Asus. I wil not pay $200 to repair an out of warranty tablet, when I can buy the exact same model from Frys for the same amount. They said the motherboard needs to be replaced. It took them one full week and 3 phone calls to get this quote in the first place. They told me that it was diagnosed on Feb 14.
I seriously doubt I will buy anything from Asus again. I was told that it would cost $92 to fix it. I will not spend that kind of money on an item that could break the minute I get it back as they do not even warranty their own repairs. This tablet was nice while I had it, but it was not the greatest either.
