Cingular 8525 Remote IMEI Unlocking?

Hi Folks
I was wondering if someone know if the IMEI Unlocking services offered in many websites really work:
For example: http://www.gsmphonesource.com/reunbyimforc.html
It make the kind of unlocking like the unlocking software posted on this forum?

since I am just starting on this XDA world I dont want to mess with rom upgrading and stuff. So I felt that just entering an unlock code is 'safer' for now, but I wanted to know if that remote IMEI solution really works for using the phone with other SIM cards

Yes, it works. It has the same effect on the phone, but I really encourage you to try my solution instead, it's not that hard, but the warnings are there for you to be cautious
The IMEI is not used at all for unlocking, it's just to make sure you don't buy an unlocker from them and use it in two different devices: if you want to unlock two devices you have to pay twice
If you want to technically understand what their unlocker does, and what does mine, have a look at this post (comments #54 to #57):

My understanding is that the Cingular 8525 use BootLoader 1.06, which means that in order to unlock the phone, the BootLoader need to be downgraded to 1.04 (by installing older ROM), SIM unlock it, and then upgrade to new ROM with BootLoader 1.6.
This may seems complicated.

I used pof's method and had my phone up and running in less than an hour and it was FREE!

That's not true..
Grab pof's exe, and run the bat file. There's nothing else to do. Just sit, be patient and follow the instructions.
It's really brainlessly easy. That means, that even those without brains should be able to handle it...

So i am waiting my cingular 8525 in the mail, so all i need to do to get the phone sim unlocked and cid unlock is to follow the directions? no need to downgrade if i have 1.06

It's easy. READ, READ some more, then READ till you puke. Then, follow the directions TO THE LETTER, and you'll be just fine. Nothing else to do. THEN, once it's unlocked, you'll want to flash a normal radio and a new OS.

As a newbie, I suggest you pay close attention to POF and Legolas; this stuff is EASY, but only because I've read the WIKI, lots of threads, then re-read the WIKI 2 or 3 more times.....then followed the instructions to the letter. And then go back to the WIKI just to stay sharp.
Reading the threads will give you an idea of just how many people do stupid things like NOT reading the WIKI, try flashing a new ROM or radio on a whim, follow only the directions they feel like, and turn a wonderful PDA/Phone into a useless brick. I've been around here only about 2 months but am now flashing ROM's on my CID/SIM Unlocked Cingular 8525 at will and having a ball. Will be joining the ROM Flasher's 12-step program soon.
So, read, pay attention, follow the instructions fully, read some more and read the threads so you can appreciate what happens when someone doesn't read, follow the instructions fully, etc.

Why Pay????
There's no sense in paying when POF's provided a great unlocking program here that's easy to use and works GREAT!!! This IS a no brainer.....

If you don't plan on going out of the country and wanting to change cell phone service provider, what is the benifit if unlocking the phone. I have been flashing my phone to different ROM's since the day I've had it.
I don't really see the added benifit of unlocking the phone...but then again I am a newb at this stuff.

If you have no plans on changing SIM cards, i.e. changing providers or travelling out of the country where you might want to use a local SIM to save $$, there's no need to SIM unlock your phone. If your phone is CID unlocked, then you are able to flash cooked ROMs' and ROMs' belonging to other carriers, i.e. flash a T-Mobile ROM to a Cingular phone. Unlocking also gives you access to the Extended ROM and several MB of storage space not otherwise avail to unlocked phones

Question, what difference if any is there between me getting the Unlock Code from ATT (just did it for some old V551's of mine with an email to them) and this Unlock tool of Pof's? I do plan to unlock it soon, planned on going the ATT route because I know it works. If your tool does something over and above I'd like to know.

i'm wondering....im about to buy a 8525 tilt...i want to know:confused if i called cingular and asked for a unlock code would it cost me...also if i mess up and did it myself whats the worse that could happen to the phone......

at&t would provide you with the unlock code for free. the worst of course is your phone turning into a brick, but if you are smart enough to follow instructions it will be fine.
and one more thing........which device are you getting......8525 tilt????? if its the 8925/tilt you are in the wrong subforum, you should be looking at the kaiser section. the 8525 does belong here

ok so i just got sent an att 8525. I am planning on unlocking this phone.
I havent been on these boards in forever but has anything changed? Is there anything in these rebranded att phones that may not let me unlock? is there a newer tutorial?

I just wanted to share that I unlocked my 8525 with HTC_Hermes_SIM_CID_Unlock_v3a on Vista. It went through with not one issue or hiccup.

Unlocking from carrier

First off, long time lurker, first time poster. Love the site and everyone's great advice and all the time and effort everyone has put into making the HD2 such an amazing phone. I have a T-Mobile USA HD2 and after searching some, I can't seem to find a conclusive answer to a question of mine. I currently on an Android NAND build and wish to ask T-Mobile to unlock my phone from their service as I hear they do this for free. Will I be able to unlock the HD2 with a NAND build or am I going to have to flash back to stock first? I really don't know what all goes into the unlocking process and I apologize if there is a thread for this already. Any help or link would be greatly appreciated.

T-Mobile will send you via e-mail the unlock code. It will guide you step-by-step what you need to do. Make sure you have a SIM card ready that is not T-Mobile in order to unlock your phone. The code is based on your IMEI number of the phone and is independent of the OS/ROM you are using. I was in the same situation as you. It is a very easy task to unlock once T-Mobile gives you the code specific for your phone.

ok i have a similar situation. i have nand android installed. im going to give my hd2 to my girlfriend but she has claro. i inserted her sim card and it asks me for an 8 digit sim unlock code. just to be clear. is the sim that is locked and i have to call claro or is it the phone and i have to call tmo? thanks.

I have just switched over from iPhone to the new HTC Trophy on verizon, and i want to unlock it so i can get homebrew apps and what not. The phone model is HTC mwp6985 and the WP7 OS versions is 7.0.7389... i want to take it to 7004 - 7008 so i can just unlock it with chevron or if there is an easier way please let me know and leave tutorials i am new with windows phone. i have been with apple for the longest time. I was just reading that this is not possible on the Verizon Trophy. The version you are on is the earliest version that works on CDMA phones.

I think Tripping James is correct, as far as I'm aware you can't downgrade it properly yet. Some have tried using the "Release (Team name)" versions for your phone, but they are incomplete and end up bricking the phone.
Your best bet is to wait for DFT team to release a new HSPL or RSPL so that it can work on your phone allowing you to flash a firmware from any other region or wait for a verizon rom to some how magically turn up.
Check out the thread on HSPL by DFT or PM ansar and see if there is anything you can do to help speed up the process of building a custom rom.

[Q] about tango - downgrade - unlock - upgrade

Hello everyone,
I hope you can help me as I haven't found an answer on the forum yet.
I've got a unbranded omnia 7 16gb updated to Tango and never unlocked. I can have a student dev unlock or interop unlock but I've read that the first is limited if done after Tango update, and the latter cannot be done after the update.
I would like to unlock to be able to install SMSbackup to export my sms and I don't understand if this is possible with a dev unlock applied on a tango updated device.
I've read many posts and I'm quite confused about why it is different if the dev unlock is done before or after the mango/tango update.
If it is not possible to use SMSbackup on a tango dev-unlocked phone should I downgrade restoring the zune backup?... but i would lose all the text messages that I got after that backup, is this correct?
Is there some other way to have the phone unlocked without losing the text messages?

the problem is, is with the tango update, the unlocked phone, without an official dev unlock get relocked (if you don't take precautions, search the forun),
is you have an official dev account there should be nu problem, you can then sideload WP7root tools, and install smsbackup, give it root and use it

Thank you daddyrazzy! Looks like I've got one more problem.. I've registered and got a student account on dreamspark but when registering on app hub, is asking me credit card numbers even if I don't have to pay anything! This is really annoying!!
So I have no way to get those text messages out of this "smart"phone...

Hello, i just bought a verizon htc trophy and i live in Peru, does someone knows a website where i could unlock free?
also, i read when i flash the phone to a custom ROM the phone free it selfs?

To carrier unlock it, you can call Verizon and ask them to unlock the SIM for international travel, but no guarantees.
To developer unlock or full unlock (using either WP SDK for the first or the DFT HSPL tool) the Trophy you need to follow the various tutorials out there.

To have the sim unlock you have to call verizon. There isn't any other way to unlock it unless you pick up an aftermarket sim, which I can't help you with. (I don't know, nor know if they are legal in the US.) They might be able to unlock it depending on how long the last owner had it on their plan.
Besides, its a good PDA. Flash the Norkser 8858 rom and follow the steps for CAB updates in the WP7 Development and Hacking forum.

i want use it as phone, i have unlocked other phones in past, with imei or other metods, as far i know is not illegal in my country
with a total flash with new rom, sim will be unlocked , i will use with other carrier

That not quite how windows phones work. Flashing a different rom, only flashes the OS, not the stuff that directly interacts with the Hardware, e.g. the Radio driver. There is only three radios for the Verizon Trophy and they are all from Verizon, so there isn't much to do. The Radio is what controls the SIM locking, and no one has tried decompiling it, afaik. I'm afraid that you either have to contact the last owner or call verizon. Not much more I can do.
You can try and see if its been already unlocked by inserting your SIM, but chances are that it will prompt you for an unlock code. You can get that from various sites online and pay, or try Verizon for free.
