I've been using my Focus for a few weeks now and absolutely love it. WP7 obviously needs more features and settings, but MS will be cranking those out soon.
A friend of mine really liked the phone and bought the LG Quantum WP7 and she is very happy with it. When she upgraded her phone, everyone at work was telling her to get an iPhone. Talk about peer pressure! I was surprised that she said no way and wanted a WP7 phone instead after seeing mine.
I've even got some compliments from iPhone users, mainly on how quick and smooth the OS feels.
Time will tell but WP7 is definitely here to stay.

Same happened to me, even Iphone 3GS users felt very tempted to switch to WP7... I have a Focus.
I traded for my Focus (iP4). I have a friend that says they are going to WP7 when their upgrade comes around.
My boyfriend got a Focus after I got mine. He said because, "You look like you really are in love with that phone" (with an eye roll)
But I don't know how much it counts because I let him use my get-one-free from AT&T, so he didn't pay anything for it.
I was following WP7 for 4 months before it came out. I got the Focus the first day and the O/S has exceeded my expectations. Second day I had one sold to my lady friend after she saw mine. A friend of my friend saw hers and bought one the 3rd day. My wife has never had a smart phone and use to be intimated but now in 1 month will buy a Focus after using mine. I believe we are some of the best salesman and women and showing others the smooth O/S sells units. If Microsoft was smart they would give owners incentives to show the phone and compensate people in some manner. I exactly felt the sales initially would be slow but the more peeps that get them in their hands the more friends that will be exposed and that will drive a faster and sustained market share
Also, I have found that turning on Birdy Bounce and passing the phone around does wonders. My whole family went retarded over it this weekend. Dad had problems accidentally activating the capacitive Bing button, though.
We are passing them around to Android and iPhone users at work for test runs. After they use the phone for the day, we're having trouble getting them back. We've been using the Focus and the HTC Surround in that testing. The Focus is far and away the Favorite. If Verizon comes out with the HTC Trophy like they are targeting in January, we may start rolling WP7 out to users who want it on Verizon. I can't roll out the Focus until we get a few SD cards that are certified to work. 8GB isn't enough for folks who have music. 16GB in the Trophy should be enough to start. it would be great if Samsung came out with a CDMA focus with at least 16GB on the phone or a certified SD card preinstalled.
On the SD card thing, I have used Sandisk 16gb Class 2 and 4 and they both work somewhat. After two weeks or so i started having some minor issues. Nothing like the 32GB gave me but I would see perhaps one or two soft resets a day. . that is why I can't recommend the Focus yet for my users. Focus ran great with only the base 8gb in the unit. No resets at all. But I need the extra space for my music library.
Blizzard
So after a day at work (8-4:30) I drove my friends (carpooling) to Severance Hall in Cleveland, OH. We set out at 5pm and arrived at the Hall at 9pm due to the snow.
At the end of the concert (10pm), we drove home and arrived home at 1am in the morning - it made for a very long day and a very long drive that normally takes about 40 minutes.
The crux of the story is this, in the carpool, four of us have an iPhone 4 and I have the Focus. Everyone's iPhone died on the way to the concert (no battery). Therefore, since the journey home was taking so long, everybody in the carpool borrowed my phone to call home and talk to their families. Everyone was extremely impressed at the responsiveness of the Focus and Windows Phone 7 - they absolutely loved it. They commented on the fluidity of the OS, the ease of use (I didn't tell anyone how to use the Phone - they figured it out themselves).
They asked hundreds of questions, used the internet, etc. etc. They were thoroughly impressed with the Phone.
The one thing that everyone agreed on and kept commenting on was ease of use - and I have to agree, it's a very easy to use OS.
Well done Microsoft.
M
ps. My phone died at 1:10am, it was a day of light to medium use (I know that's highly subjective....)
Two friends were due for upgrade along with me (I was due for 4 months but waiting for WP7) and after using my Focus they instantly got one each (surrounds - it was free!).
Both were upgrading from dumbPhones.
all my friends are poor and have no phone upgrades
but they all like the samsung focus
my phone is constantly being borrowed when im somewhere
My wife switch from iphone, and is very happy so far. Her iPhone is not going back to her purse any more.
She enjoy the integration of the social network, the keyboard, the great image and colors of the Samsung Focus
My in-laws liked my focus so much, they bought a pair of of the LG's, cause they wanted keyboards. Btw, they are big mac fans.

Are you not afraid your wife will either read this post or ask your friend who your (boom chicka bow wow) "Lady Friend" is and you will be in big trouble?
Yes, I keep catching my wife looking over my shoulder. She's on the iPhone 4. I have to admit, the iPhone 4 is a VERY nice phone (after Jailbreaking), but I didn't want to fall into the Apple Trap . I've handed the Focus to her to use, and she's quite impressed also. It's smooth and easy to run. Screen is very impressive.
My girl is now tyring to Bogart my focus. She wants me to use her iPhone 3GS. Now I just traded my iP4 to get the Focus last week. No way is she getting my Focus. Gonna find her a deal online somewhere, so we'll have one more people on the WP7 team!
IMHO anyone who uses WP7 for atleast 10 mins will love it. I just showed it to one of my friends who was lecturing me for not buying an iP4 instead and even he loved it.
I think word of mouth is really the best way to promote WP7. So plz guys/gals show your WP7 device to as many people possible.
Whole family.
My mother bought one on my recommendation (Android to comples for her, iPhone too fragile for her). Loves the integrated voice command.
Father saw it at Thanksgiving and wondered why she got it. Later in the day he was wondering what the Knicks score was, brother stepped up to my mother's phone and said, "Knicks score" and up it came. Bowled my father away, and he bought one.
Brother and sister-in-law loved it too. They are getting one. My son, well, he is a Sprint fan and is waiting for them to carry it. As for me, couldn't wait. Got the Focus - love it.
Since then, showed a friend, and he and his wife got the LG - he loves the keyboard. She's a Mac person, but seems to be warming up to it.
Hi Guys,
I'm at the end of my contract this month, so tempted to get ahold of the Venue Pro. I've seen there are some Firmware issues, so basically I have 2 questions.
1,
Does anyone know where I can get it on a contract in the UK, havent found one yet - or where I can purchase it sim free - preferably contract
2,
How much of a deal breaker is the firmware issue? And how much does it impact the phone
Basically the phone would be perfect - portrait slider is what I need, and WP7 is the dogs.
Cheers Guys
Chris
I love mine. Like you i mainly wanted it for the portrait slider, however i only use it on long emails as the on-screen keyboard is amazing.
I was lucky i guess on issues. I cheaped out and ordered the 8gb with intentions to swap it to 32gb as soon as it arrived, which i did for not only more space but to get around the lockups.
If i had to do it all over again, I "might" have gone with the samsung focus for the better camera since I'm not using the hardware keyboard as much as i thought i would on the DVP. But all in all, i love the look of the phone and it stands out. And it does everything i need it to do.
I might not have much of a voice, but I love my DVP.
I did not experience issues that are expressed on this forum as much. I have not tampered with the registry (well you really cant...) and the only thing i did to modify it was sideload apps using my MS developer license.
Maybe it is because I apparently have the updated firmware?
The people you will find on this forum who stuck around are probably the ones to talk to. I hear domineus has had his since the beginning.

Echo Venelar's statements. I love my Dell. Its really a choice you have to make. You've read the threads. There are people that have received a Dell that just are NOT right...period...there are other people, like myself, who have had little to no problems. Whether one side or the other is in the majority, we'll never know. So, until the fixes are in place and in production, you take that risk...good one...bad one.
Again, like Venelar said, I find myself almost never using the keyboard...almost as in once or twice in 7 months....But, I could not bring myself to get the Focus. Not a Samsung fan for design...and it appeared they had hardware issues that impacted the update ability.
One of the more attractive phones in Europe was said to be the Omnia 7. Don't know if thats available in the UK, but you may want to look it up. Also, the Trophy started out slow with staining on the display, but is turning out to be quite popular. It has a good size and feel to it, though lacks the brilliant display of the focus and VP.
Thanks for the feedback guys.
I currently have a HD7 - which I love to bits, but I do spend alot of time emailing / texting ,and I think with the upcoming addition of facebook chat / windows live and facebook messages that I'm going to use the phone alot more for chatting.
I guess I can see what you mean - the WP7 keyboard is really good - far better than my wm6.5 or android keyboards I've had, but as I trained as a touch typist for a previous job 5 years back, I end up typing really fast and I make far too many mistakes on the touch screen.
I've seen the Omnia 7 - that looks good. But, I'd probably prefer to keep my HD7 over it. But the Dell seems to be a better build quality than the HTC devices - from what I can gather.
Another frustration is that it doesnt appear to be in any of the UK stores - so I just cant get to try it out. I was hoping it would be on a network here, hidden away - I wonder if anyone has found anything out about it?
Thanks again for your input guys - I'll be researching heavily over the next couple of weeks the best way to acquire one of these I think
Hi
I'm based in the UK and have been using my DVP for over 2 months.
1) Haven't seen the phone available directly from carriers yet. I bought mine sim-free from Dell - there are also third parties (e.g. ebuyer.com) selling it significantly cheaper. One thing to be aware of is that many third parties appear to sell the 8GB version whereas Dell sells the 16GB version. You can add a higher-capacity SD card - however, as mentioned above it voids your warranty.
There also seem to be a few websites selling the DVP with a contract, presumably a deal they have put together themselves. If you google 'dell venue pro contract uk', you'll find several. I don't have experience of these sites personally.
2) For my device, the firmware issue basically means that I keep wifi switched off, except for short bursts. With wifi on, the phone becomes unstable. However, with wifi off, I have been using the phone for a couple of months without any crashes or reboots - it has been very stable. Generally, the only time I switch on wifi is to get marketplace updates. Obviously, your mileage may vary.
Personally, I use the hardware keyboard extensively, which was one of my main reasons for choosing the DVP. I find it very comfortable. It doesn't have any cursor keys but that's probably not possible in a portrait keyboard.
Overall, I am happy with my choice of the DVP - it's a very nice device. I wanted a phone with a hardware keyboard, good screen, decent storage capacity and WP7 - the DVP is a perfect fit.
From my perspective, the most positive sign recently is that Dell have finally started communicating re: DVP issues. Much more optimistic now that they are serious about resolving the issues.

Sadly you can only get it from dell. I waited a good bit before ordering my nexus one because of the same thing. I had never purchased a phone without the chance to hold it. I bit the bullet and ordered the nexus one when they announced stock was getting low and it worked out. I couldn't have been happier with that phone. I guess having that experience go well didn't hold me back from getting the online-only DVP.
And yes, the build quality is amazing. Yeah the phone is heavy, but if you've always used phones with hardware keyboards then it's something that you are used to dealing with. The phone is stout, I love it.
Hey Everyone!
So My trusty, white Dell Streak dropped face first on my hard wood floor yesterday, and completely scrambled the screen. Been moping around ever since, since now I'm FORCED to consider an upgrade.....
Some of you that recognize the screen name, and you'll know I've been knocking around XDA for a while. I got indoctrinated here since I've been a WIndows MObile User since 5.0 days. Now I'm considering a new Windows Phone device....The HTC Titan.
The Streak's size is what sold me to begin with, and the Titan is much the same in that regard, but there's also the new OS.
I don't have OS jitters. I don't mind trying out the new OS. I have owned an iPhone in the past, and just don't wanna retrace old ground.
So have any of you here moved on to a Windows phone device? I know some here may not have a Titan (not released in the U.S. yet), but how does the screen resolution measure up in comparison to the Streak?
Touch response? I always found that using an iPhone 'felt' like it was better than my Streak. Will I notice the same moving to WP7?
Anything else you can add would be great. The Titan is released on the 20th on AT&T. at 199, it's hard to pass up something new and well-reviewed, instead of getting another iPhone, albeit an upgrade from the model I had last year.
Thanks in advance everyone!
-B
Just switched to Sprint's Moto Admiral. I'm not an iDEN fan, but need to portrait keyboard and VGA resolution to manage business tasks.
What are you going to do with your wasted Streak? I might be looking for a parts phone.
It's cheaper and easier than you may think to replace the screen yourself. I did mine the other day, £25 delivered including the correct screwdriver tool from an eBay seller. There's a good guide to taking it apart on IFixIt.com, probably took me around 40 minutes from start to finish and my phone is good as new.
The replacement part is the glass lcd and touchscreen all in one unit, so it doesn't matter which one is broken.
I have been tempted by the galaxy note - similar size to the streak, 5.3" 1280x800 screen, a stylus that works, latest dual core cpu, 1GB ram, 2500MAH battery so it lasts way longer than any other smartphone. Would cost about £400 sim-free after selling my Streak though and I just can't justify it when my Streak does everything i want it to though.
you know, I HAVE considered fixing it. But, I DO want the Titan. Since the Streak is now out of comission, the Titan is looking real viable at thi point. And since it's being released here this Sunday makes it even more tempting.
I was hoping someone on xda from across the pond could shed light on moving from the Streak to the Titan.
Just curious...
What's the next phone you will consider after DVP?

What I really want is a replacement for my beloved HTC Startrek...
Window phone 8...
Seems limited choices at this point?

i wish i could get my hands on the nexus 4
i love windows but the price of nexus 4 is just ridiculous.
A New IN Box DVP I have in a drawer.
Seriously, until another Portrait slider QWERTY comes out, I am done with any other phone. I would love LTE, and faster speeds, etc.. but WiFi is everywhere so its rarely needed.
I guess if I were to guess, depending on what BB10 looks like, and if they come out with a Torch like BB10 device, that maybe my only option. As MS has even stated no one wants a QWERTY everyone is good with on screen keyboards.. Which is blantantly untrue. I can't use nor stand typing on a touch screen.

I bought the Dell Venue Pro about a year ago as an unlocked 16GB device with Mango installed. I had been using a very basic Samsung phone on T-Mobile Pay as you Go plan for several years and just transferred the SIM card and it worked flawlessly right away. My upgrade path is:
1) Get the 7.8 upgrade for Venue Pro (assuming there is one in the next few months)
2) Wait till the price drops on either the Lumia 910 or HTC 8x for an unlocked T-Mobile Windows 8 phone and just transfer my SIM card again
I keep my monthly minutes very low and only do data over WiFi

As much as I want to just into a Lumia 910 (or Unlocked 920 since it appears confirmed that it has 1700/2100) I think I will hope that the DVP gets 7.8 and wait for the unlocked launch price drops. I also want to wait and see if the browser in the 910/920/8x supports auto text reflow. If it doesn't I may be getting a Nexus 4.

I agree. I'd prefer a portrait slider although would settle for a landscape slider if nothing else was available. There are people that want keyboards, although the last couple of generations of Windows Phones (7.5, 8) haven't had any. Hopefully, next year...

DVP will be getting WP7.8 - all Windows Phones will. Unlocked DVPs received the Mango and Tango updates very quickly. Sadly, AT&T delayed the updates for some. If Microsoft stick to their plans, carriers won't be able to block WP7.8.

Last I heard, WP7.8 was due for release 'sometime this year'.

Nokia WP8. I like the way the 820 looks, but prolly the 920.
If no new windows phones come out with a qwerty keyboard - I might switch over to a BlackBerry device. I will never get a Droid or Apple product.

My thoughts exactly.. I have been a Windows User since the HTC Universal.. and like WP7-8..
BUt may join the ranks of the BB10 crowd depending on the hardware if no QWERTY phones for WP come out. My hands and fingers are to big for a touch screen. I MUCH prefer the two thumb typing method of the Dash / DVP / BB phones
So we are looking in to switching from Verizon to T-Mobile, currently the wife's # is out of contract and I have been looking into phones I like the price tag of the Nexus 4 and if it where for me I'd get it no questions but it's for the wife. The only phone she has had is an iPhone 4s so I'm wondering if this would be a good replacement? I've looked at some extensive reviews and I'd say yes, but I wanted more of a long term opinion would you guys or gals have your significant other (non techy individual) use this phone?

i think that xiaomi red ice for you wife is the correct phone!
it costs around 150$ and it includes miui v5 with android 4.2.2 and they are always updating!
is a chinese brand but the quality is so good and the screen is made by AUO the same as apple!

My wife thought the phone was a little to thick for her to use with one hand comfortably. (No jokes please).
Her last 2 phones were a HTZ Rezound and a Motorola RAZR M. She said she has no idea how people use phones with bigger screens then that but then she held the HTC ONE. Well needless to say, she ended up with the HTC ONE. It felt thinner and narrower in her hand then the N4.
Could she have used the N4, yes but another one of her requirments was a good camera...
As long as the size is okay for your wife and based on her other requirements in a phone, the phone itself and the software just running stock 4.3 work perfect. With older versions of Android I would usually say you really would need to tweak it for the average user to enjoy it but 4.3 is running better then ever and can pretty much please anyone just running stock. Heck, I am running stock and don't feel the need to change right now to a custom. Only tweak I really needed was to make the Nav bar smaller and it is perfect now!

Without hesitation!!
I got one for mine and she loves it...I left it all stock, but did root it as she likes to change fonts like the weather changes...IDK why but I'm not going to ask her...Sometimes you're better off not knowing why
It took her a little getting use to the size difference. Had a 4s and an Atrix 4g.
Now she wouldn't go back. No lagging runs smooth as glass...speaking of which
If you do get her 1 I'd recommend getting a case right away as they are a slippery phone and glass front and back.
AS for the camera not being outstanding...it's a phone 1st and foremost, and takes some decent pics with a little tweaking.
There is a thread showing off some pics in the general section...Link Here
The price vs performance ratio can't be matched right now.
No contract crap, updates before any other phones, you own a quad core phone outright for a couple hundred $$.
Deal!!
Good Luck!!
I swear to God that when I read your post I read: "Good phone OR wife" hahahahahaha
That happens to a lot of people in here... including myself... if we get a good phone, we may lose our wives! hahahahahaha
Like mentioned by one of the previous users, Android 4.3 has come a long ways. For the first time, I am actually running the stock ROM (with root and a few modifications). For the average consumer, the N4 is a very viable option, ESPECIALLY at the current price of 199/249.
Size could be a concern and the HTC One is definitely a better design for folks who have small hands, but I think the N4 is by no means uncomfortable. Having come from a HTC Sensation and Galaxy Nexus, the phone feels better in my hands than either of the two previous devices.
8gb are gone now, only 16gb($249) is currently available. Just ordered one saturday and shipped today. Hopefully im not disappointed when i get it

There is definitley nothing to be dissapointed with! Coming from an S3 I don't miss it at all. With the wife having an HTC ONE, it is a great device for her but I would personally take an N4 any day.
Stock Android with quick updates just cannot be beat! Also, I do not even understand why they made this phone in an 8GB version. Talk about limiting a device and what you can do with it. What is there like 4-5GB of usable space when it is all said and done.
Good thing for people buying one today that there are no 8GB ones left. You will be happier with the 16GB which is still kind of pushing the low end size of memory but is at least somewhat do-able.

Thanks for the insight.. and yeah i love the phone overall, based on the reviews, videos, pictures online. The only thing that can really disappoint me are the negative things i keep reading online, major issues with it. Some on top of my head are: "Sleep of death", "Reception really bad", "call buz", "battery Leaking" "Red light of death" all of those make me not want the phone LOL. I know this does not mean ALL devices come with these problems, just saying I would hate to recieve a Lemon Lol
Well it looks like we might have to put the switch on hold her car is acting up and I fear it will need a transmission.. I did the math and if I buy out of our Verizon contract for the other 2 lines we would end up saving around $250 in the first 15 months that's after paying $450 to end the contract. And that's with getting 3 new phones on tmoble. Might just get a G2.

Doesn't work. While you can unlock the iPhone 4s from other carriers you can not from Verizon, unlocking a verizon phone only let's it work international nor on local networks. Unless I missed something bc I'd be all over that if someone has info I don't.
