I got my SGT2_7 P3113UEALD3 a few days ago and used it stock no root no flashing other ROM on it just to see how it performs. It was a bit slow. Then I rooted installed TiBu and started freezing apps didn't delete any and now it runs fast and smooth. These are the apps I froze.

Am also thinking of freezing -VpnDialogs- but will wait, not shure what it does. Also I welcome all comments and explanation on some of the apps and what they do. I'm a noob at this just figured I try something and see what happens. Also as I already mentioned so far so good everything is running OK fast n smooth. Just thought I put this out for other noobs that are holding back from flashing new ROMs , this is an alternative no deleting just freezing.

When you freeze the apps it means you disable it right? since some of the apps are essential like the camera, or accessing google+
Thanks, this has reminded me to freeze some more on mine.

Yes freezing disables it (basically blocks it from doing anything) in fact at the moment they are just taking up space, but didn't want to uninstall or delete anything until I tested the tab for a week see how it handles and if there are any arising problems because of them being frozen.
As I mentioned I use -Camera ICS- so I will be deleting the Camera app that came with the tab. Also what ever app you don't use I recommend freezing or deleting. Freezing apps you don't use on daily basis and just deleting the ones you don't use at all

I did something similar with my 3113 last night. I used a list that I found in another thread though that's in xls format.
I have a question though. I installed Steam through the play store. At login, all I get is a 2 tone gray / black screen. Is anyone aware of any of these apps possibly having an effect on the steam app or connectivity? I googled the problem, and I'm not the only person to have this happen. However, it wasn't just with this tab and the problem seems rare.

Be careful not to load any games on that tab, they eat a lot of memory,

Meh. I've installed quite a few apps, including some games, and still showing about 3gb free. Going to try the internal to external sd swap once I get my ROM slimmed down as much as possible, backed up, wiped and reflashed. If you're having storage space issues, check out the swap - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1961097

That script works really well, it is also why i'm not moving past 4.1.2, it doesn't work on versions beyond that, because of the storage structure( multi-user ability maybe?), or something.
I agree with the op. Even on my favorite ROMs, which have less bloat than stock, I need to freeze apps in order to free up ram.

I haven't flashed a new rom yet, nor have I tried the sd swap trick / script. Got my gf an 8gb sd card today for her to use for movies on a road trip in a week. When she gets back, I'm going to switch her for my 4gb and then try the swap.

First of all.. the moderators can move this to another section if this isn't the correct place to be posting this...
I have been waiting for the Milestone 2 section to pop up to ask this... but I guess that might take a little longer...
I'm using the stock ROM from Motorola Froyo 2.2.. My phone is rooted though... Not a big fan of BLUR for obvious reasons.. (Angdroid .. we are waiting for ur custom ROM eagerly to get rid of BLUR.. kudos to u bro to help us out)
So I want some recommendations on the apps that I should use for the list below. I'm using some apps but since the android world in full of awesome apps.. I just wanted to make sure that I'm using the best of the best..
I would really appreciate if someone can give a reason as to why I should NOT use a particular app..
Task Killer - _________ (using Avanced task killer)
Alarm & Timer - ________ (using stock) (hopefully nothing fancy is necessary here)
File Manager - _________(ASTRO)
Calendar - ___________ (using stock)
Dictionary - __________ (required. Preferably offline)
Camera - ___________ (using stock)
Camcorder - __________ (using stock)
Contacts - __________ (using stock)
Dialler - ___________ (using stock)
Office app - _________ (got Quickoffice as stock)
Browser - ___________ (Dolphin HD and Opera Mini)
Social Networking - _________ (I only use Facebook and I have got the official App)
Picture Gallery - ________ (Got QuickPic.. looking for something a little more fancy here)
Music Player - ___________ (got stock n WinAmp)
Text Messaging - __________ (Stock)
Exchange - ____________ (heard a lot about Exchange by Touchdown)
Launcher - ______________ (using Launcher Pro)
Other than that I have Google Goggles, Google Sky Maps, Google Maps, SetCPU, XDA app n Youtube..
One more thing, I would really appreciate if someone can suggest apps (especially launcher) which can give me better battery life..
Would also appreciate any interesting app that I'm missing..
Thanks in advance for your suggestions..
You don't need a task killer. FroYo is designed to handle running apps optimally and a task killer just gets in the way of doing that.
okay... thanks for tht....
Any other suggestions??
Well I keep advanced task killer froyo in case an app starts acting up and I need to kill it. I never kill everything though.
A great music player is miui music. Very good ui, downloads lyrics and album artwork free.
Miren web browser from the miui rom is also great.
Widgetlocker is nice. Widgets on your lockscreen and its only $1.
Launcherpro is a great home replacement to get ride of the blur launcher. Its super smooth and snappy. Paid version has some nice widgets.
Hope you find this helpful.

Thanks.. I'll try out miui music and miren browser.. Not to keen on keeping widgets on lock screen, so would keep away from Widgetlocker..
Have tried both Launcher Pro and ADWlauncher... Launcher Pro is super snappy... but ADWlauncher is catching up fast... Plus it has got loads of themes.. I cant decide between the two at the moment.. I guess battery consideration will dictate terms there....
More suggestions are welcome...
Root Explorer is a good file manager because it gives you access to your /system folder so you can eliminate those annoying camera shutter sounds. It costs $10.

Android mate is a free alternative to root explorer. It gives you root access to your /system folder. It might not have as many features as root explorer, but that's the price you pay for not paying lol

Thanks Mike for the list..
I do have Ad Free, Angry Birds, Facebook, Google Goggles n XDA apps..
Will give compass a try (donno how useful it is for me though).. CNET news and Google earth also seem to be good options...
About Droid overclock.. I did try Milestone overclock n was able to overclock my phone to 1300 MHz.. but my battery doesnt seem to last long (even without overclocking it hardly lasts a day).. Do u guys have a similar issue without battery?? If yes, can you suggest some ways to conserve it??

Im guessing since you have the Milestone 2 you prolly don't have it ROMed which I dont think you can at this point and time. There in lies your problem, the MotoBlur absolutely HATES batterys. Before I ROMed my phone I could barely last a day with mild useage, I can now last at least a day and a half. With overclocked =P.
To conserve use WiFi whenever possible. Put the screen brightness as low as you can tolerate it. If you don't mind disconnect your facebook account from your phone (That is constantly pulling data which is a main cause of battery drain).
Also, If you just got the phone I'm sure you are using it a ton which may drop off as time goes on (Once you get used to having this amazing mini computer in your pocket lol) which will drop the battery usage that display uses.
I also use "Data counter widget" because the native data counter bonkers :-(
There are Engadget, xda and Facebook apps in the store.
For internet tethering I use PdaNet - great app!
PowerAMP is my favorite music player. Haven't played much with it though.
QuickDic as dictionary.
QuickPic is okay, I use native Gallery.
Shakespeare App is great. All his books for free!
Widgetsoid to create my own widgets. Like it alot.
As for games I'm currently looking for a strong mills game. I have downloaded all mills game from the store but they all suck. Way too easy. The same for "Stratego" clone Legions...nice, but way too easy...
iPhone has a better choice for apps...really sucks

That is surely true..
But I dont think we Milestone 2 users are gonna see a custom ROM anytime soon... though m keeping my fingers crossed...
@oTToToTenTanz: Data counter is a good suggestion.. m nt too keen on games (except for angry birds) as I use my PSP for that...
I'm curious if anyone has a list of removable apps for the stock Defy as well as lists for Quarx's CM10 roms etc. I've found a few but were either very old or sem-related roms and releases.
From what I gathered most of the bloat is gone in Roms like Quarx's CM10. Of course not all of the included services and apps will be used by the user, for example, I don't use bluetooth, nor do I use the FM Radio etc. Most of these basic apps with layman-like labeling I've uninstalled but some are a little more like: "Download Manager" or "DRM Protected Content Storage."
I'm curious to hear if anyone has a more conclusive list than my clusterf-- of pieces.
Cheers.
I am also interested in this, I would uninstall stock messages, and browser, music player, video player... but will the phone stay completely functional?

If I can retrace some of my searches I can offer a few of the old lists. Unfortunately I never made a comprehensive one for myself and the Defy. I only just started to label my apps in Titanium Backup when I realized
For example much of the general stock apps I know can be uninstalled, naturally if you want music to play but don't have a music player, you may want to stick with stock until you find an music app which you like (I run Subsonic and have been checking up on XenoAmp's development... I just love the ideas behind it).
I've found it never hurts to back up and do a test run of the app frozen before you remove it. Here's some of the stock Apps I've removed/Frozen(Titanium Backup) without a hitch:

Haha, nice. That's is one of the lists I read a while back. Would you happen to know of a list for the Defy? Not to mention the list clearly isn't exactly replicable for us. ie "Home Screen Tips - Desktop tip widget. Will make phone FC after factory reset"

Yes I know that is not entirely applicable to Defy but if you read between rows is very useful. I use it and I've make some space on system ( ~75MB free).

Oh, absolutely. I'd just love to hear what else I can squeeze out. I don't use a lot of basic apps and services even on the debloated CM ROMs. Since it's so easy to overload the Defy with too many things running I'd rather keep everything minimal.
Since no one has a defy-specific list maybe I'll update this one in a day or two.
I am a total newbie, so please bear with me. I had never heard of rooting a phone until I got the Galaxy S4 i337. I saw that the Golden Eye was good for starters, so that is what I put on my phone. I followed directions to the letter and it worked perfectly!!! So thanks for that. Anyway, now that I have it rooted, I noticed a couple things that don't work. The screen mirroring is one of them. I have a friend with an unrooted S4 Active that can see me on the network (I was sitting right next to him) but when he tried to connect, it failed. He also could mirror his phone to the TV. When I pull up screen mirroring, it says that there are no devices to connect to. I didn't know if that was right with this rom, or maybe a setting I haven't found yet. I also have the active apps widget and Greenify to let me know what apps are running, but when I go into the ram manager and hit clear memory, it tells me anywhere from 20-35 apps were killed, and this is when I am not even using the phone. I can do it again 10 minutes later and it says it still killed a bunch of apps. I thought rooting my phone was supposed to help with that, no? And if not, what would you recommend for an app to help. Maybe a different rom would be better? My concern has been with the battery not lasting very long. Thanks!!!

Goldeneye is a very good rom for beginners & vets alike. I would recommend it to anyone as far as that goes. But to answer your question you would need to install the addons called Samsung crap pack in the addon section in op. He took out those apk's because a lot of people prefer not to have all those features for whatever reasons so he just added a flashable zip in the addons for those that do.
Now as far as apps running in the background you would need apps like greenify or titanium backup to freeze those apps that u don't want running in background. Or if there are apps that you simply don't even want you can just delete them with tb or app called Nobloat in play store. Just an FYI, I would freeze them first for a little while to make sure they don't interfere or cause issues with rom. Also can do the same with the CP zip after install use nobloat to delete extra Samsung apks you don't want or use.
Hope this helps you out man & Great choice for a rom btw, you will be pleased with it

Thanks!!! I didn't know the screen mirroring was a Samsung app since it was still on my phone.
I have Greenify, but it only allows me to hibernate a few apps. I have done that to all of the ones allowed and still get 20-30 apps killed when I hit the clear memory on the other app. I will try the other one you mentioned and see if that works better. Again, thanks!!!! I have been enjoying the Golden Eye so far!

GoldenEye is a GREAT ROM, and yes you need the Samsung Crappack addons for some features to work. I also recommend Titanium Backup Pro; its worth the dough. Below is a full list of services you can safely freeze (originally from UCUAMDL AT&T firmware, but many services are still in Goldeneye), anything Samsung is in the Crappack. Just freeze whatever you dont use.
Great choice again.

Hey,
Here you can write the top 10 apps you can't live without. Also if you want, you can add a brief description of what this app does,
Purpose is mainly to kill time ;P but also learn about new apps which someone may not have heard about. You can experiment more with a larger variety of apps and maybe increase your battery time even more, or get a fast internet browser etc etc..
Oh and please write the names of your apps as they are on Google play, so it easy to find. And if it's an app outside of google play, provide with a link too.
You can just write 10 apps/games/whatnots, there is no system here that first one is the favourite one, but it'll probably be your favourite since you thought about that app first But 10 isn't necessary, just write what apps you like and maybe you can add them later
I guess i'll start..
1. Go Launcher EX. - very good customixable launcher with many features.
2. File Manager (Rhythm Software) - best file manager i've had yet.
3. Airdroid - With this you can transfer files between PC, very fast! Handy to have incase your USB cable has gone faulty
4. Titanium Backup Pro. - Great app to have if you're a flashaholic. Backups apps and data for later to be restored after a factory reset or new rom
5. FML Official. - good app to kill some time by reading about fails that people have done
6. Adfree by BigTinCan - good app to get rid of ads.
7. Kingsoft Office. - excellent document reader.
8. Greenify (Donate). - Best task manager of its kind
9. iGag. - 9gag viewer, better then the official according to me. (but with ads)
10. avast! Mobile security & antivirus. - The best (free) antivirus app out there, with some handy features too!
Good luck with writing this, it took me about 13 mins to write all
1. XDA premium. Won't have tot explain why
2. Sygic mobile navigator. Offline navigation cheap and great.

Hi All,
Now that most people have installed the OTA KitKat and knowing that this will be the last update Motorola makes for our phones, I thought it would be a good idea to make a collection of all the system bloatware that came with the OTA that is able to be removed safely without affecting the performance or running of the phone (either frozen or deleted for those of us lucky enough to be unlocked and already rooted). Lord knows I have been waiting a long long time to delete these apps and not just have them frozen! I'll keep a running list in the second post, hopefully in alphabetical order, as people post up any that I have forgotten about or didn't think of.
Again, this is just a list of everything that is safe to remove if people don't use the apps / functions, not necessarily things that have to be removed.
...there's nothing like freeing up memory and RAM 8)
EDIT: The hard ones to pick out are gonna be all the "com.***" ones since they're not quite as self-explanatory...
List of bloat:
- Amazon
- Amazon App Suite
- Amazon Kindle
- Amazon mp3
- Android Keyboard (AOSP)
- Android Live Wallpapers
- Audible
- Black Hole
- Bubbles
- Calculator

Like I said, they are removable but some people will want to keep them. Personally I keep the YouTube, but use a scientific calculator app and don't use live wallpaper.
Ah I see, I didn't think those were removable. I thought they were system apps.
You're right, they are system apps, but can be frozen and for those of us lucky enough to be unlocked and rooted on KK they can be deleted (using TiBu or some other method). Everything listed above is considered a "system app". But, the list is not comprehensive.
That's why I was looking for input for some of the more not-as-obviously-named removable apps. I know there was a list floating around somewhere, I had a bunch of stuff frozen from that list whilst on JB. But now that our phones are not going to be updated any further (and if there is a surprise update that comes to us, we can put the phones back to "stock" using SamuriHL's RSD Lite scripts), I'd like to delete them permanently.
Just an update - I was able to safely remove the all-important NFL Mobile app without hardbricking
Guys, I'm sorry to crash this thread, I'm locked and on 9.18.64. Since your all rooted and unlocked, I was wondering if anyone of you would be willing to give SamuriHl a freshly installed and rooted system dump using the safestrap method he outlines in the KitKat root tracking thread? I'd like to be a guinea pig for this one chance root experiment. That's the only missing piece ATM.

Ah, yes. How could I miss that one. Added, thanks!
Would love to help @MarcusWhite but I do not have SS installed. I also am a pretty big noob about these things, I can'do much past rooting/unlocking/custom ROMs.
Also I found another bloatware - HP Printer Service or whatever it's called.

Good call, I forgot all the wifi printer apps!
Updated the list with some others that I found as well (Email, Hangouts, Messaging, Music Visualization Wallpapers, etc.) All can be safely removed, but make sure you have another method for emailing or texting, lol
Freeze bloatware
K, I was able to freeze the bloatware using my unrooted 4.4.2.
I went into each apps settings (long press the icon, app info). Then I cleared the "Show notifications" check, Force stop, then Disable. After that the offending apps weren't showing up under the app screen.
If you go to Play store, you'll find them listed as "Disabled".
Hope this helps some, and keep up the good fight for Root access with this update.

Sigh... Please don't spam this thread with posts about root on stock KK. If you don't have it by now, get used to not having it on this phone EVER.
I have removed and disabled the google search app without any negative issues to the rom.
I don't use it as I find myself using my personal browser more than the useless google app. Plus no google now push. However, it does remove the search bar, but doesn't break the roms ability to search from an up swipe from the dock using a browser with search functions, or another search app.
You can also freeze google maps along with its companion app without issue.
You should also consider putting a list of apps not to mess with this time around. This is because a few system apps have become more vital in the rom.
For instance, Google Play Services was able to be disabled and removed without reinstalling automatically in Jelly Bean, but it can no longer be frozen or deleted as it will seriously mess up the google play store with it's recent update in kitkat.

Thanks! They've been added to the list.
The "do not touch" app list sounds like a good idea, but I was thinking of just leaving it as whatever isn't listed in post #2 shouldn't be touched

Haha. How do you like your crow prepared? Despite the fact that root and unlock is now available again for a short time, anyway, I think he was showing how there is some freeze ability without root with this update.
With that said, I can't find acoustic warning in tibu, is it now called something else? I can't stand the auto volume drop when I hook to my truck radio.
Update: nvm. Its no longer standalone. Its in android os. You have to use xposed to disable it.
Something I killed in this list removed my speech to text capability. The microphone icon is gone from the keyboard when texting. Any idea what did it?

If I had to guess, I'd say it was removing Google search that did the trick. That's when mine disappeared anyway. I rarely use the option so it didn't bother me too much. If you haven't uninstalled Google search, then you should just be able to verify Google voice typing is enabled. If that doesn't do it, you might also have to long press the button to the left of the space bar and assign the mic to that key.

OK, I'll bite. It seems I'm only able to freeze bloatware. I try uninstalling w/ TBU, but they're all still there. Since I don't see any reason to have to restore them for an OTA, I'd just like to get rid of them.
