Ok I need a new laptop as my 17" Pavillion dv9410us is starting to die.
what I'm looking for.
1080p or 1080p capable display.
Blu Ray Drive.
15.5" - 18.8" screen
Lots of storage (needs lots of room for all those roms xD)
full size keyboard.
Good hardriver & videocard.
64bit.
I'll be using it for light gaming, doing stuff to my hero, and Video & Audio editing.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think this is what a Quad Core is generally used for. I might do a little multitasking.
My budget is $1000 try to keep it under that, but I'll take a look at stuff up to 1.1k, but no higher.
Thanks, oh yah OS doesn't matter I'm going to put Win 7 Ultimate 64bit or Linux when I get it.
Do not get anything with an intel chipset. I dont care if its a 5.0 ghz quad core laptop. The reason being is because Intel has generic graphic drivers also infamously responsible for the intel 945 chipset which is subpar Geforce 2 mx 4000 quality graphics. When looking for laptops always get Nvidia or Ati chipsets with modern graphics cards inside them such as the Ati HD series or Geforce 9 or Geforce GTX series video cards. If you end up with intel chipsets you will have a bottlenecked PC. I dont care what anyone else says to you if you get a intel chipset you just wasted money lol.
Gotta agree with him, ATI is the way to go. I'd recommend an HP laptop, just because..... they don't suck as much as Dell or others.

i have the Asus - Laptop with Intel® Core™ i5 Processor G60JX-RBBX05
its got everything but the blue ray its a beast of a laptop for 899 check bestbuy
If you are willing to spend some decent money, I can highly recommend a Sager. I got a NP8690 and have had no problems with it, and it plays everything I throw at it on max (L4D2, BC2, SC:C, etc.) I spent just about 2 grand and got a 820QM processor, 8gb of memory, a 5870M (dx11 graphics card).
Best laptop I have ever used, I doubt I will ever buy from a mainstream (dell, apple, hp) company again. ODM companies are the way to go.
Edit: And if I can speak from personal experience for a minute here, while I don't actually have anything against HP, they were the highest percentage of laptops I fixed during this past year at college. That could be that the people that tend to use them are idiots, or that there are more of them floating around, or it could be that they just suck. I don't know. Just saying. Never had one for myself, so I can't really say.
edit2: sorry, I missed the part about your budget. But I still think Sager is worth a gander, they have really REALLY great machines.
I've got a Toshiba Satellite A505-6033 that I got at Best Buy (A505 also available elsewhere). It's got an Intel chipset, but it's also got nVidia mobile graphics card that runs the games I've thrown at it so far very well. Those games would be Warhammer, Ultima Online (lol), and....well I guess that's it
It's got a quad core Core i7 720M and 4GB RAM with a 500GB HDD

I really wanted a 1080p so I can watch 1080p Movies on my laptop
I was looking at A Sony Vaio Laptop that was 1080p.
So should I be looking at an ATI processor, and an Nvidia GPU?
This one is 1080p and I liked it, the screen was a little small though.

Bang for the buck you are still better off with Intel processor and Nvidia graphics. Intel is still ahead of AMD in the processor dept...I am hoping AMD will come back as I was a big fan until the dual and quad core's from Intel came out and just smoked em......
I got this in March and have been very happy with it.

How does this laptop look to you guys.
I might be able to get it if i work for my Dad.
It doesn't have a blu ray drive, but it does have nice specs. If you can find one like this with a blu ray I'll love you
Here's a toshiba version, blu ray driver, but the HDD is half the size.

The tiger direct laptop doesnt spicify that it has a Sata hard drive, To me thats a potential deal breaker. Its got all the horsepower but the drive speed can bog down the computer and bottle neck it. also doesnt have a blueray player.

This laptop doesnt have quadcore but it has all the bells and whistles you would need for extreme gaming like the GPU ram has GDDR 5 . i would look for a laptop that has quad core with blue ray and video card with GDDR5 memory. also either SSD or SAta drive.

I'm really liking the Asus, butt my friends over at Tech geeks online said that if I disable my page file it wont matter. He said I'd only experience slow deleting & file moving.
If someone can find me one with the Asus specs but sata I'd love them.
Blu ray is now optional.
Um.. dont ever disable the page file system.. Unless you have 8gb of ram you should always keep your pagefile even if you disable it and use a 8gb flash drive for swap you still need a swap no matter what. They probably suggested that you disable pagefile because you are possibly getting 8gb of ram with your laptop. Even then, there is no reliable reason why the pagefile should be disabled its there for a reason.

SONY VPCF117FX/B 16.4" Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit NoteBook
This one has blue ray, Geforce GT vid card, Sata drive 6gb of ram though but its worth the goodies you get, the expensive laptop in the list is mainly ram and hard drive and no blue ray player which is shocking i would go with the SONY VPCF117FX/B 16.4" Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit NoteBook and upgrade the ram on it to 8gb it will be worth the money and its a powehouse machine.
Just a simple thread where everybody can share their specs if they want to. Normally I'd start off but the graphics card takes my 9.8 down to a 4.9... so yeah.
It was a suggestion to do this in another of my threads, and here it is.
MSI 890FXA-GD65
AMD Phenom II X6 1090t OC to 3.7. At stock voltage.
Wintec One 8GB DDR3 1600
AMD Radeon 6770 1GB. OC'd GPU clock to 950MHZ and memory clock to 1300MHZ
DiabloTek PHD850 850w
OCZ Vertex 3 120gb SSD
Western Digital Caviar Black 750GB
AOC 20" something or other
Hyper 212 Plus
Windows 7 Home Premium and LMDE.
It only cost like $700. Which isn't bad. Need to upgrade the graphics card though.
My laptop is the Gateway NV78 with LMDE on it(after 2.6.35 it broke backlight. I made up a guide to fix it) I got it in Nov of 09. With Linux it still beats out many.

I sit back like 8 feet, the only downfall is the usb extension cords, because wireless has too much delay in games. I thought the 55 would be to big, but it was free and my 46 was dying. Did anyone bought Kingsing W8? I got it few days ago.
This is seams to be cheapest Windows 8.1 tablet.
Basic info:
CPU Intel Baytrail-T Quad Core 1.8GHz
GPU Intel HD Graphic(Gen7)
System Windows 8.1
RAM 1GB DDR3L
Capacity 16GB
Screen 8 inch IPS Capacitive Touch Screen
Resolution 1280*800
It has great hardware for that price. Some would say that 1Gb is not enough but I have this tablet and I can say it is. Tablet is a fast, fluid. 1Gb ram on this optimized OS is enough for a tablet. Google Chrome and Internet Explorer can without any problem show all sites, games can also run smoothly. (Despicable me is working great)
All sites tell that this CPU can run on 1.8ghz but Intel Atom processor Z3735G for me works at 1.33 GHz. Is there any way to enable "turbo" or what?
Video: youtube.com/watch?v=f3BMy2DrLEY
This is my first Windows tablet and it is even faster than Android which I bought for same price- 116$.
I am glad that Windows tablet are becoming cheaper and cheaper and Kingsing W8 is working great for me.
Are there any more users here?

yes, i see gizchina has reported that this is the cheapest windows 8.1 quad core smartphone at $100, i guess it's official price, not for reseller, and also know good news that Kingsing s2 and Kingsing W8 has a giveaway activity from 1949deal. See here: h ttp://goo.gl/RttCym , i guess it has no ram 2gb version now. Maybe in the near future.
This looks like a better deal, not sure if it is a scam, though. At least it is from aliexpress, so you should get your money back.

Best, cheap 8-inch Windows Tablet's the TW801. Hands down.
I picked up the TW801 from MicroCenter open Box for $118. Best $118 I ever spent. It's got a reliable HDMI-out, a Full-sized USB 3.0, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a miniUSB for charging (and you can also use it for data, I tried).
I run Fedora 17 (I'm in a Linux 101 course at my community college) using VMware while running Chrome and Amazon Kindle all at the same time while taking notes in Chrome--and I use a Motorola Lapdock for a second screen. This thing runs absolutely brilliantly. Only downside is the pathetic battery life. But for about $120, it blows the Dell Venue 8 Pro, Lenovo Miix2 8-inch and the rest of the 8-inch tablets (for me) way out of the water. I've been able to play 1080p videos on a 60hz TV with minimal stutter at the beginning and smooth sailing from then on (using YouTube). I'm sure I wouldn't have a problem watching anything else, either. If the Venue 8 Pro can handle games, this one probably can too, though the only thing I tried on it was Second Life, haha, and that ran decent.
If you're in the market for a cheap 8-inch with HDMI AND a full-sized USB 3.0 slot, nothing quite touches this little guy. Here's some specs.
CPU Baytrail-TZ3735D, 1.33GHz Normal (1.8 GHz Turbo Mode)
Microsoft Windows 8.1
Storage
EMMC (it's soldered on, sadly) 32GB, and a MicroSD card slot up to either 64GB of 128GB (the advertising is misleading in store and on the website, and on Amazon... I haven't tested it myself)
RAM
2GB DDR3
Display
8" IPS LCD, 1280x800, 16:10 Widescreen
5-Point Multi-Touch
Cameras
Front (2MP) Back (2MP)
Stereo speakers on one side on the back
They're actually... pretty decent.
Msc
Integrated Microphone, 3.5mm Microphone Jack
No GPS
WiFi (802.11b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.0,
I/O
1 x Micro USB 2.0
1 x USB 3.0

My sad Kingsing W8
I've bought this tablet since 2 weeks ago and it was great... But now it won’t turn on anymore. I guess it happened after some auto updates installed. Do you have any idea....? Thanks.

1 x USB 3.0
1 x SD (SDHC/SDXC)

Lucky you. In europe you can't buy that tablet i found it on internet. And was like woow i want. But imposible to buy here. Yes for like 220euro way to overpriced.
But yeah realy nice tablet for that price witg full usb 3.0
The 5-Point Multi-Touch is a weak point of this tablet.
Well after an interminable wait, largely due to US customs sitting on it for 8 days, the W8 finally arrived last week. After 6 days of using it I am more than impressed. Very responsive, and certainly fast enough for the sort of things you do on tablets. The cameras aren't too impressive but that isn't a priority for me. Using a full windows desktop on an 8" widescreen is a bit of an interesting experience but you can do it. I think I'll pick up stylus as my fingers ain't all that dainty! Battery life isn't stellar but it is no worse than my nook HD+, and the display is a whole lot better than the nook's. Overall worth the $116 and quite pleased with my purchase.
W8 Windows version?
Does anyone know the exact Windows version that these tablets use?
I have one that has a standard Win 8 install but the touch is not operational.
The touch is working as it operates when I did the recovery process, so I am assuming that it just doesnt have the correct version installed
Any ideas?

After 3 days of its release i found a installed copy of game on net it was 23.6 gb and i bownloaded it.

Windows 10 is not compatible with extreme injector you can run Farcry 4 with injector on windows 7,8,8.1.Your options are either upgrade your processor or install windows 7or 8 alongside windows 10 to play the game.

you need an upgrade. GPU and CPU dont meet the minimum requirements. 2nd hand Intel q9300 cpu or better and a new basic gpu like a Nvidia 750ti will make a massive difference to your pc for roughly £100. anything newer will require a new mobo, ram etc.
Minimum System Requirements
Operating system: Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8/8.1 (64bit versions only)
Processor: Intel Core i5-750 @ 2.6 GHz or AMD Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.2 GHz
Memory: 4GB
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 or AMD Radeon HD5850 (1GB VRAM)
Direct X: Version 11
Hard Drive: 30 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card with latest drivers
Recommended System Requirements
Operating system: Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8/8.1 (64bit versions only)
Processor: Intel Core i5-2400S @ 2.5 GHz or AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0 GHz or better
Memory: 8GB
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 or AMD Radeon R9 290X or better (2GB VRAM)
Direct X: Version 11
Hard Drive: 30 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card with latest drivers
A buddy of mine needed me to build him a working PC out of 3 different machines: Dell Optiplex, Compaq Presario, and a cheapo eMachines. My payment was the leftovers . Out of the mess I was able to build his computer, plus assemble one for myself: he got the eMachines and I kept the Dell and Compaq, which also works, since he only wanted one decent PC.
Optiplex 790 mini tower
3.1 GHz intel i5-2400 quad core
7 GB RAM
Seagate 250 GB HDD (later upgraded to 500 GB SSD)
Additional 500 GB and 160 GB HDDs for storage (all drives SATA)
Onboard intel Graphics (later upgraded to nVidia Quadro 600 1024 MB dual display with 1 DVI [adapted into VGA] and 1 DisplayPort [adapted into HDMI] { I dropped the ball on port types, forgot to even look at what I was buying })
2.4/5 GHz dual band wifi network card w/ dual antennas
ATI USB Media Remote
Windows 7 Professional
I currently have 3 pointing devices connected: Logitech Trackball mouse, Monoprice Pen Tablet, and Microsoft Mouse / keyboard combo. I occasionally have a small hanheld trackball mouse attached, and an Apple USB keyboard with 2 USB ports, (like I should need more, the tower has 10 built-in USB ports already.)

Oh yes, I do agree on that, except, I did mention "initially" as to it's purpose; Steam and Epic games are the main hubs I use on it.
Did forget to mention . . . I only spent $60 on the whole system, and that was the price for the nVidia card
