Wrong forum buddy. Can't help you much as I don't think the devices are alike..
The general process is
Root the device
Flash a custom Recovery
Make a nandroid/backup through recovery
Do a full Wipe
Flash the ROM(flashable zip)
And done..

i had a very bad experience with nand backup/restore very recently and wanted to share it with the community and hear any feedback or suggestions where i eventually did wrong.
First of all i have to state i am a newbe on Android and have just started learning how to do some mods via the great help of this forum.
here is my case: I have partitioned my SD and moved all existing apps to the newly created partition via recovery mode. When I reboot no apps showed (i am not sure apps2sd is missing or what) therefore I decided to restore my earlier backup which went trhough succesfully but guess what ? ..... the phone did not reboot anymore and it arrived only up to the HTC flashing logo and got stuck there.
I had to find the stock rom again (sorry i forgot to mention i was using the stock rom) and reflash it from scratch which finally made it to work. thanks to shipped-roms.com !!!
My first guess is that for some reason the restore did not work and i got into a sort of loop mode because i tried moving all apps to SD before rebooting and this did not work properly.
does anyone have any idea of what could have been the problem ? I will provide any addiotional specifics if needed.

hi
app2sd has to be cooked into the rom and cannot be installed separately into the rom so have u used a rom with apps2sd in it im using Jacobs 1.5 which has apps2sd and i have done ext3 part & to my knowledge u need to do ext3 part for apps2sd to work
hope this helps
Actually you can install apps2sd after flashing a rom without. Just flash the darktremor skript you find in the forum. It depends on the rom if it's working fine or not. It worked for me with modaco r3.
Thank you for your help. As I stated originally i am using the original shipped rom and I have flashes a modified recovery where I can both partition the sd, do an ext2 to ext3 and eventually move all applications to the sd, however when I did it they all disappeared. Because all seemed to be available via the recovery menu is did it without checking more but I will need to do so since my Tattoo is already full.
I have not read around anyone saying that original Roms cannot install apps2sd. Am I wrong?

As I already said you can install the apps2sd script. But it is not installed by default. So if you want to use it you have to install it first. The rom can not detect your apps on the ext partition because you have not activated a2sd. You can find it here.

this is great thank you. just a last request: is it possible to remove and return all apps to the internal memory in case I want to restore as it is now ?
in addition does this work for all apps even if they are not setup to be running from SD card ?
sorry if i am asking so many questions but given my previous bad experience i want to make sure i am not going to screw up everytning again....
I don't know if there is a command in the a2sd script that can remove those files from your sd. Maybe a2sd remove in an adb shell, but I'm not sure. You can move any app to your sd with this script. The other thing is for froyo. I think you don't even need an ext partition on 2.2.
Thank you very much for your help!

So I keep getting the low space alert, and it seems like my emails and texts stop when that happens, which is no bueno... I don't know why since I only have like 5-6 apps installed and have cleared my text msgs, but it keeps happening...
Is there a way for me to move my apps to the SD Card, as well as have them install there in the future *without having to root*? I'm not rooted, and due to it looking like a PITA, I really don't want to have to do it. I did the upgrade to 2.2 when I got it, and the option is in the setting to move each app to the SD Card, but that option is disabled and I cannot engage it.
Any ideas?
No one? Seriously?
Ok, how about this. If I do need to root to remove some apps and whatnot or however to make space, and I have no interest in custom ROM's, Radios, etc, what is the quickest and easiest way to root? One without having to install the SDK or anything like that? I am currently on 2.2.1, stock.
unfortunently, you do have to have root access to use apps to SD. BUT, i said the same thing about custom roms when i first started modding. heres what you can do.
1) Root your phone and install a CWM recovery using one of the many useful guides on this site
2) (optional) Achieve S-OFF in Hboot. this allows for further modification of a roms internal files after it has been flashed.
3)Download and flash the CM7 Rom(and gapps) from cyanogenmod.com (ensure that it is the rom for your phone)
4)Partition your SD card for EXT 4. (this is done in an app called ROM manager from the market.)
5) After you've booted into android, go to the android market and download an app called S2E. CM7 has its own built in A2SD, but ive found this to be the simplest and best overall.

There are several options on how to root your fone after you've upgraded to 2.2. Your real problem is, & this is the reason why they made the update available on HTC's website, rather than just doing an OTA, that the 2.2 package w/ Sense is just too big for the available internal storage...
The 2nd problem is, I noticed the guy prior suggested obtaining "S-off". This CANNOT, @ least last time I checked around, be done once you've updated to the stock HTC build of 2.2. You can still root the phone using one of the many methods available in the MT3GS android development boards & then install CM7 which frees up a lot internal storage space on the phone....

Hello World,
I've got a question concerning the external 8gb sdcard on my phone,
the phone is rooted, has bootloader and cwm 6, the rom is stock btw
My phone can put/place some things to the sd but some don't,
for example,
- Camera saves some of the pics to it,
- My PC sees it when I connect the phone and I can put apps/music etc to it
but,
- I can't use the app2sd built into android assistant (or any other app2sd apps) to move the apps to the sd, they just won't see the sd,
- CWM wont backup to it,
No /sdcard/.android_secure found. Skipping backup of applications on external storage

I've searched the forum, but I can't actually find the right solution for this?
I'm new to all of this, and I want to learn. I've found some advices to similar problems and that the solution is to partition the sd, is that the catch or maybe something else?
Thank you in advance, newbie.
Edit
A new example of not seeing the sd in recovery,
I wanted to flash the "Sony Album" via the Pimp my Rom app, it downloaded the app successfully, it asked for clearing of the dalvik cache, I approved it,
phone rebooted and went into recovery, and then the recovery said that the file doesnt exist (something like that).
Edit
I've tried formatting the sd with fat32, no changes whatsoever :S
Hi guys, I have the Huawei U8800 and it has the Official Gingerbread (2.3.5) B528 ROM and I read that I need to have 2.3.5 to upgrade to Aurora ROM, I did root the device and installed Clockwork Mod 5.5.0.4 which is compatible with that rom. I did wipe dalvik cache, wiped user data and all that. But when I flash the rom, it gets stuck on the Huawei Boot Screen and when I turned it off and on again it installed Android 2.3.5 on its own. On the screen it said upgrade firmware step 1 out of 2, do not turn off device. Any help would be appriecated as I have searched high and low for a solution, so I did try to find someone with a similar problem but I still can't solve it.
I'm sorry, but I think you are not following the steps properly. Make sure you go through all steps thoroughly.
I DON'T KNOW IF YOU NEED CUSTOM PARTITION BUT I RECOMMEND YOU CUSTOM PARTITION YOUR PHONE SO YOU CAN INSTALL BIGGER ROMS!!! (here)
Go to my Xperia Style GB ROM (in my signature) and follow the steps there install a ROM, but use Aurora instead of my ROM.
I think the 2.3 GB ROM installs again before you still have the 'dload' folder on your sd card. The phone detects it and starts installing it again.
Wow thanks for such a quick reply, I will try to follow your steps. Thanks a lot!

Elora ROM
UPDATE: I managed to installed the Elora ROM which is based on Aurora ROM and is working just fine! Thanks. Also I tried your ROM the Sony Ericsson Themed GB and it worked also . But somehow when I used your partition guide I messed up my phones internal memory (2GB) and I cannot access it from my computer.

That doesn't mean it is messed up.
The custom partition takes memory from your internal sdcard and dedicates it to your phone's internal memory. So, your internet sdcard's memory goes from 2GB to 1.46GB, and your phone's internal memory shoots to 1.2GB. This way, you can install bigger ROMs on your phone and install more apps on your phone.
I don't know about accessing the internal sdcard from your computer because I never even tried doing it.
Ok I managed to find a program on the PC that can read the internal sd card and it worked great! The weird thing is, I installed an Updated version of the same ROM (Elora 1.7.28) and it was much more unstable than the previous version, to be frank Im trying to understand if the developer is still updating the ROM or not since it is dated from 2012.
For example, downloading apps from the market were extremely slow and when I connected the phone to the PC, the PC didn't even detect I connected my phone and apart from that, usually in android it tells you to connect your device for usb storage, Android didn't even give me that.
So I restored to a backup I made of the previous version of the ROM (Elora v1.1.10 something like that) and connected to the PC works fine, android tells me for usb storage, and downloading apps from the market is extremely fast.
Although the phone is working quite well (Elora V1.1), some games like Real Racing 3, Frontline Commando and Frontline Commando D-Day didn't work. Apart from that its working quite well. Sorry for the long text.

I don't know about all those errors because I never tried Elora. But, the developer is obviously not working on it anymore. (Don't know where the developer is )
I decided to jump ship and go back to 2.3.5 using your Xperia Style ROM, it's much much much more smooth.

remove dload folder on your internal and external sd card before flashing new rom
Yeah, in fact that did cross my mind. Yesterday I managed to repartition my card now I have ~2GB to install applications (Internal SD Card) thx guys. But I do have a problem Real Racing 3 tells me insufficient space although I do have enough space and it is installed on the internal SD Card and not the SD Card.

Hi
i have moved on some time ago to a new Galaxy S4.
now i want to use my Defy as a spare backup device. or if i go hiking and travelling or what not.
i want to format the device and reinstall it with CM10.
i have already downloaded all needed files but got stuck.
apparently i can't install a rom from the device's on memory, and need a memory card for it.
unfortunately, i don't have one.
am i wrong? is there a way through Recovery to install the rom? or is there an alternative allowing me to install the rom throughout the PC (like Odin for samsung)
thanks

No, I don't think so. A memory card is required.
