Screen defect? - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

I just got galaxy s3 for t-mobile today and I just noticed like black streaks or dots on the screen when viewing a pure black background in a dark room with brightness on mid/low
Does anyone else have the same issue?
Thanks.

I've read some stuff saying these black spots occur in all amoled displays. Apparently its one of the drawbacks of this tech.

It's normal just have to live with it or exchange and hope you get one with less of the black spots
"All this knowledge is giving me a major brainer!"

I have this too, once virgin mobile gets more in stock they're swapping it for a new one, hopefully its better!

I don't think I have any. I turned my brightness all the way up and put a black background on my phone and I don't see any. Is this rare for new phones and something that happens over time of using the device?

Not even with FB pictures loading and what not with the brightness turned all the way up I see none. Maybe I just got lucky!

I got a huge one right where the camera is. It's only noticeable when in dark room black screen. It's about one cm. Called store said I'd have to wait to get it replaced cause they're out of them. Hopefully I get one with no or at least tiny ones :banghead:

I have like three our four of them around 1mm in diameter, but like everybody said I only notice it at night or in a dark room with a black background. it's nothing that really bothers me because it's not just any black background but a specific one. I don't know what it is but I dont think it's much of an issue unless you're a perfectionist or have OCD. The only thing I care about is not having dead pixels. I had the vibrant before this for two years and the screen has no dead pixels or burning so I think Samsung can be trusted when it comes to the lifespan of the screens.

Would you return it for one stuck green pixel?

Well if you're lazy like me then no. But if you feel like you've been conned out of your money then return it.
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA App
sure... you paid a fair deal for the phone- if you're dissatisfied, then samsung/retailer should rectify it.
but it does sound like lots of hassle for a single pixel.
of course...especially when you will be noticing it, everytime when you look at it
i'd return it . im sure now you see and look at the dead pixel everytime you look at the screen as you have already spotted it.
Well, kind of how I feel guys.

Probably not, depends on how noticeable it was.
If everything else works fine, there is always the chance you'll return it and get something far more annoying.
It reminds me of friends who used to return monitors that had a bad pixel.
- Frank
Yes I definitely would. Not sure if they'll accept the return though because of just one dead pixel.
yeah im sure it will be fine with exchange to newset.

I would definitely exchange it coz i know how annoying that one dead pixel is.. i had a iPhone like that and i took it to apple store and they exchanged it for me.
I would definitely return it.
You deserve a new and defect free screen when you have paid for a new device.
Definitely I would. You'll never forgive yourself if u don't do it

Talking with the vendor, hoping they take care of me. They have a pretty awful policy on the books there though at 11 dead pixels for a return...
They're talking to the supplier, i will keep you posted.
Aren't there any apps that force colours to all the pixels which then, in turn, might unlock the green one?

Just found 'Pixel Fixer V 2.0' and its free. Give it a go. You can't lose really.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Exactly, there are methods of fixing dead pixels with a good chance of success. I would definitely google it and try them out (and maybe try to figure out which may be best for AMOLED screens).
Then, if nothing works and the dead pixel is in some annoying place I would ask for a replacement.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/dead-pixel-detect-and-fix/com.htc.chris.blackspotdetect
Even if you don't mind, say in the off chance you sell it later - and the buyer notices it and decides not to - you'll regret not getting a new phone.

Yeah man, guess I have had some bad ones. I had an Evo that was plagued by a couple issues, one being a dead pixel. It seemed to develop another rather quickly. Thankfully the last phone with any issues. My first N7 had one, found during a screen test. Replacement is perfect. (replaced due to screen lift) Good luck.

One area the iPhone 5 & Lumia beats the S3 is...

.. performance in the daylight sun. I find the S3's screen is so hard to read outside on a sunny day even on 100% brightness. This was the only thing I miss about my Lumia & the only thing I think will be nice on the iPhone 5.
Will Samsung ever address this issue on future phones or is it just a shortcoming of AMOLED screens?

Some people need to stop being butthurt when somebody said something is better on another phone. OLED Screens are worse than IPS screens in sunlight, that's just fact.. most of us know, there's nothing you can do about it.
OP If you want you can try using Siyah kernel and adjust the max brightness value in the STweaks app, it helps a tiny bit. How it affects the health of your screen over a long period of time is anyones guess.
What you guys on about i have the International S3 and it is perfectly normal and very bright i can see it in very sunny conditions. When i first bought the phone it was a sunny day i was sitting in the park messing about with it i can see everything on my screen. Unlike my HTC Desire this was awesomely bright. Anyway i dunno what is wrong with your one though.
Maybe i am wrong who knows but i am not trying to be a fan boy i have both iphone 4s and s3 both are good phones in their own way. but the s3's brightness is perfect for me.

My Lumia was worlds better than my AT&T S3 (at 100%) under basic sunlight, not sure if there is a difference in the screens for Int. S3 vs mine, I hadn't thought there was? The iPhone 5 has iSight that will act to combat the sunlight wash, so it was a pre-emptive prediction, as the S3 has no tech in it to do that. I don't get why they didn't put the tech of Lumia screen into the S3, it would make sense.

Buying a N4 from craigslist

I think I found an old guy who does not want his N4. Can I pull my att sim card from straight talk and put it in the n4?

You may need to create the APN, but the phone is Sim unlocked.
Look for scratches, cracks, touchscreen unresponsiveness, earpiece crackle (some is OK. Just make sure it isn't unbearable), dead pixels and yellow spots on the screen.

It's an unevenness in the way the backlight lights up the screen. You'll see brighter spots around the edges. Some say it's the type of screen. It's not something I've ever looked for or noticed. It doesn't bother a lot of people, but perfectionists let it get to them.
