You can update prl by using ##data#/View/PRL Write and having an /sdcard/test.prl renamed desired prl file.
No MSL required.
I know... Didn't some people mention that it won't allow certain PRLs to be written to the device? I should test it with a Cricket PRL.

At this point, it seems like it's hit an miss.
At the same time, having a simple method is a huge boon.
Wish developers would jump on it to sort this out.
CDMATool does let you look at other things on your device. Actually I think you can copy your data fields over to the tethered data fields and use the STOCK hotspot as well.
Come on... I know you wanna look now.
In fact someone should look at their Sprint phone and figure it out. With Cricket I just write the same profile everywhere. Stock hotspot works....
This is actually an iPhone pictured and it should be set to RevA.

Any errors made here should be able to be fixed with the hands free activation. If that doesn't work, reset the device using ##786# and then go through the activation process again.
What would this be useful for? Would it be useful in flashing other network prls to get better data speeds?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Sometimes certain PRLs yield higher speeds over others. If you wind up on a non Sprint tower, you'd probably incur roaming charges or be taking away from whatever roaming data/voice allowance they give you these days.
Someone could start a PRL thread with date PRL was obtained, location, and speed test. There would be a lot of factors involved. Sprint should keep their stuff pretty well updated. A lot of people like having the power to manually make changes. I've seen PRLs change for the worse.

If you are at work, in an office in a basement or close, your Sprint signal is so weak it keeps reconnecting.
It's alternating between 3G and edge/roaming, and you battery life goes to ****.
In my particular case, I would have 10% per hour battery loss.
One way to combat it is to force roaming on a competitor's network, like verizon or us cellular. Immediately you are greeted with an 80 dbm signal, and your battery doesn't drain as much. Then, if you are using verizon towers by applying a verizon prl, you get the 3G speeds and a decent signal not to drain your battery.

There are no “LTE PRLs." This is a regular PRL from the Evo 4g LTE. There's no way to roam on LTE and therefore no PRLs for it.

Okay let me try to formulate a better response because my other one sucked.
That is a PRL from an Evo LTE. Last I knew Sprint was pushing out 6xxxx PRLs for non LTE devices. Just like Verizon, they have changed and come out with a new series of PRLs.
While there a PRL might play no difference in LTE, there might be a reason for those devices to be utilizing these PRLs. I'm going to look into it more and compare the PRLs. Perhaps an additional allotment of modes/channels? I don't have Sprint.
AT&T, Verizon, and Cricket only.

I had a corporate prl for my evo3d, will it work for the GS3? It was 12120.prl (Sprint)
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
So really no PRL for LTE Roaming....
I have Sprint S3 and am getting tired of their ****ty network (excuse the language), I was hoping there would eventually be a prl to let me hit up Verizon's towers with LTE. Are you saying that is impossible? Because I am about ready to switch because of how bad my service is (3g). I'm not sure why I thought it would be an upgrade from the E4GT service wise (phone is though).

Really Sprint? This is retarded. I pay $10 extra for "premium data" and I don't even have 4G in my area, let alone worth while 3G.
But thanks for the $30 credit on my $190 bill I got slapped with this month.
US Cellular customers in the area get blazing fast 3G speeds...
I would have switched but I love my Evo Shift so much
Tried the latest radio upgrade, nothing new...
I'm smack dab in Waterloo, IA
WHY WOULD YOU LIE SPRINT?
Sorry, just venting a little bit. Anybody else near me getting the same crap 3G speeds?
I have the same problems with My phone. I believe it might be cm7. When I was sense I got about .60-.90 mbps upload. Now I can barely get passed .30 mbps upload and sometimes it shows .10mbps upload.
I also noticed on cm7 that i go into 1x a lot now. Places where I would usually get 3g I get 1x signal. It's kind of a pain.
edit: At first I thought the radio update did something, but it really didn't help.
edit 2: added a new picture.

I'm not sure if you meant 'Reset' or 'Restore' --- but, there is an issue if you update your data profile and then update PRL that will cause your data profile to get messed up.. I followed the steps in this thread, and now my 3G is perfect... Specifically - the portion dealing with restoring, having the phone reboot, letting it to handsfree activation, and then cancelling the PRL update.
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-tips-tricks/280082-major-solution-fix-your-slow-3g-speeds-evo4g.html
I was only getting a maximum of 90-100kbps before doing this..
If you want the essentials of that post:
Select Data Profile
Hit Menu
Select restore
Hit OK to reboot...
PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR PHONE
After going through the set up process (Handsfree Activation, LET IF FINISH) you will select ok
YOU HAVE TO HIT CANCEL WHEN IT STARTS LOOKING FOR A PRL UPDATE
YOU HAVE TO HIT CANCEL WHEN IT STARTS LOOKING FOR A PRL UPDATE
Wait for the phone to finish it's thing. 3g Icon should be on, go off, then come back on.

100kbps is still horrible 3G speeds, I stayed on sprint's ass about this and my last months bill got a 140 credit and a no charge airave, but i have had this issue for months, and mine were like yours anywhere between 50-100kbps, I told them it was breech of contract and all kinds of things and that they owed me both lines off contract etf free and they offered the airave so i stayed

My experience, wife and i both had other smartphones and both had better signals which made everything liveable. Then purchased 2 shifts signal dropped from 3-4 bars all the time to 1-2 bars and dropped calls. So called Sprint told them that this was unacceptable as my wife uses hers for bussiness and we don't have a land line.2nd day Aired an AirRave to me.We also use our wireless router when at home.

So I was seriously considering switching to Verizon to get into 4G LTE unlimited data before they flip the switch next month to tiered pricing.
Getting grandfathered in would be sweet. So I went to the store and looked at their best LTE phones, the Thunderbolt and the Droid Charge. I played with both and left the store. I just couldn't do it... neither of their top devices compared to my Nexus S. Even as I type this now on the Nexus S I'm impressed how it stacked up to the competition.
I just felt like sharing
PS: If they release a SGSII before tiered data I'll switch oh and don't offer up the Sprint Nexus S as an alternative to Verizon for 4G. No offense but I think wimax sucks.

I just ditched my Thunderbolt and Verizon's overpriced plans for a Nexus S 4G, and I am very glad I did. You made the right choice...
My T-mobile contract is up and the T-mobile/AT&T merger is starting to scare me (fears of it being approved). I would love to switch to Verizon to get grandfathered in, but like you none of their LTE phones impress me. I have the Thunderbolt for work and it's a nice phone, but I get very bad signal problems in my house (especially in my basement) where my T-mobile SNS gets 3-5 bars of signal. If that merger goes through I have no idea what I would do.
I've been conflicted with the same thing. Sadly...none of their LTE phones even come close to the Nexus S.

Actually further reading what you do is trick bm and vm into thinking you have one of their phones. You use a doner phone, steal its esn, and apply it to the new phone. Over simplification but yeah if you had a Verizon doner phone and contract and did the same thing and applied a Verizon prl it would work in theory.

Ok so I decided to type up a more detailed explanation.
Part of that guide explains how to transfer the ESN (Serial Number on your phone that the carriers use to authenticate your phone with their network) to the (in this case) Epic.
SO let's say you had a Verizon Fascinate. You would basically be copying it's programming to the Nexus S. You then transfer the ESN to the NS and flash a Verizon PRL to the NS so it connects to Verizon's towers before Sprints.
When your phone connects to the Verizon towers it would see the Fascinates ESN that you transferred to the NS and it would authenticate and viola you have a Verizon NS4G.
You then have to copy all of the Verizon MMS settings from the Fascinate and put them onto the NS4G enabling MMS.
Another note, as mentioned in the thread I linked, is that you could then NEVER turn your Fascinate on again. If you turned it on while the hacked NS4G was also on Verizon's network would detect duplicate ESN's authenticating and mark the account as fraudulent.
Verizon and Sprint use the same frequencies and 3G technology so you'd have everything but WiMax functional, with enough hacking.
I think, that since BM/VM can't detect the difference after the hack, it would also go unnoticed on Verizon.
Information on this topic is scarce. It's a felony because it's considered some form of communication fraud. However since you would be using your own ESN's I don't know if they would fully slap you with a felony over this if they were to find out.
Proceed at your own risk but it's definitely possible.

I dont get why you need 20mbps on a phone? Its not like you are downloading torrents worth of stuff to your phone all the time.
Using it for tether purposes maybe, but id still prefer to have a cable line. Just seems like the speed is an epenis debate. Now connection is another thing entirely. I might be dropping sprint becuase 4g is not right around where i live (nashville, tn area, we have 4g just not in mount juliet where i live) and 3g is spotty as hell. Verizon rules the roost here.

Thats a CONNECTION issue, NOT a speed issue. Which is what I was saying, I agree with you on that one. Im simply saying 3-6mpbps versus 12+mbps is not a huge difference in speed when you dont use the phone to download GBs of data at one time.
I did a speedtest.net on the droid charge i played with at verizon today, it only did like 4mbps which is slow for LTE apparently. It however got that signal in a store thats barely a mile from my house, which means I should get LTE coverage around the places I visit most which is why I will most likely switch to VZW before my 30 days with sprint is up. Gonna try another phone and see if I get better 3g signal with it (no wimax where i live but not a deal breaker for me since im fine with 3g speeds and can use 4g when im closer to nashville, 4g cuts out about 2 miles before my exit on the interstate so maybe sprint will expand to me soon?), and if not, back they go.
My real complaint at that point would be the CRAP phones from verizon on LTE. Refuse to pay 300 dollars for the charge and the TB is blah.

be care full of roaming on sprint
Voice/Data Usage Limitation: Sprint reserves the right, without notice, to limit throughput speeds, and to deny, terminate, modify, disconnect or suspend service if off-network usage in a month exceeds: (1) voice: 800 min. or a majority of minutes; or (2) data: 300 megabytes or a majority of kilobytes. Prohibited network use rules apply. See in-store materials or sprint.com/termsandconditions for specific prohibited uses
Please post your results with the prl name and where you live. prls will vary from place to place.
I can customize a prl for your area if need. PM with your info like the state your in.

Glad to see all the prl's in one place. I gave been trying different prl's you and bierce have posted over the last few months. I'm currently on 01337. This prl gives me the best all around signal Dayton, Ohio. But the funny thing is where I use to get zero reception I get great reception but now all the spots I got the best reception I only get mediocre reception. So it's kind of a trade off. But i wish I could get great reception in most places and mediocre where I use to get no reception.
I'll send you a pm and see if you can cook me up something.

muahahahahahahaha sorry kyouko i couldnt resist lol.
@rb3 you have a better signal because that prl uses verizon towers by default so if sprint is poor in your area then verizon prls will work mutch better.
I understand what you're saying. But I'm getting spotty reception in areas like highways and near towers where I know friends with verizon also gets great signal which is why I'm puzzled. But the pub I always goto ill get my best speeds and I know sprint gets no reception but verizon does so it's the price I'm willing to pay to get data while drinking lol.
that prl is also ancient witch could explain it verizon could have built new towers since then try the 52299 one i fly of that one its a hit and miss with them though so youll just have to go through them until you find one that works the best.
ive spent the last 4months testing random prls and radio combinations its become a bit of an obsession lol
Yea i have tried running that one with both verizon and sprint radios and while better than sprint's prl it still gives me spotty reception in areas I know it shouldn't.
Yea ever since I ran across your prl threads a few months ago I have probably changed prl's 30 times lol. Definitely a fun obsession to have.
One problem i've ran into a few times is after I flash a new prl and reset my data profile data will never engage and the hands free activation step never works because there is no data to update the profile. This led to me having to run a ruu one time because I couldn't get data to turn on no matter what I tried. Just wandering if you ever experienced this in your adventures?
yea i stay away from doin data resotores unless im on a sprint prl because verizon prls it dosnt want to update my data profile sometimes. but most of the time if i power of my phone and take the battery out a couple times itll work.
if there any new people looking at this feel free to ask questions switching between different carrier prls can somtimes quadruple your data speeds its all just trial and error.

from your post try the alltel 31010.prl sense verizon bought alltel they have some good prl's to cover both net works.

cool glade its working
this is the 01337 mod results as of 8:40 this morning
Loaded it up last night right before I fell asleep. I ran a few speed tests at my house and they were a little bit better than the original prl. I will continue to test at work today where I have had issues as well and report back. Thanks again for modding it for me.
@Bierce where do you pull those speedtest screen shots? I use the app from the market. Or are you getting those from tethering?
i use tether and do it from my computers browser thats why my locations are so random
and thats why i do this lol. i would be lucky to get 400kbp/s 4months ago
I have flashed a few PRLs (as beirce has been posting them) and none of the seem to make much of a difference. For the most part I am getting 200-400 Kbits/s.
Maybe no hope in San Antonio.
Recently I was PMed by a member to remain anonymous asking me for my setup and my speeds since this member knew I was on Boost Mobile. NOW what drove me to start up a thread wasn't just the PM from this anonymous member but all the asking from all my friends and coworkers. I would like this thread to be a place where you just share your current setup of radios/pri/prl and 3G speeds. Say if you like it or is it lacking and if it is, then you can see what works for a certain member and try that and keep switching until you're satisfied.
Oh and please share your current city so we can get an idea of what works where.........THANKS!!!
Another thing, PLEASE don't get sidetrack and start asking about how you can flash your EVO on to boost mobile!
If you want that piece of information then head over to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182260
PLEASE DO NOT turn this thread into a legal or illegal drama thread
this is mainly just to figure out what PRL or PRI or Radio works well where..nothing more, nothing less.....THANKS!!
MY CURRENT SETUP....I LOVE IT!!!!
Radio: 2.15.00.05.02
PRL: 60662
PRI: 2.15.003
Area of usage: Pensacola, Florida
My 3G speeds as of yesterday....(Reason it looks like that is because my LCD density is at 180)

Im in the miami area
baseband: 2.15.00.11.19
pri: 1.90_003
prl: 61007
i thought boost flashers were supposed to use the same setups ?
i started messing with my combinations of radios pri and prls...and honestly there are just to many combinations for one to do test out by himself.
i had my girls phone flashed too so i gave up and used her setup.

I could post more if there's some sort of doubt or whatever because I never claimed to have incredible speeds, this is just to get things rolling (hopefully) on sharing pics of your 3g speeds on boost mobile and current setup/location

He asked to post results from the daytime because that would represent more accurate results as the load on the network would be higher. In the middle of the night most people are asleep, so more times then not you'll get better speeds then when everyone is on their phone during the day.

I was browsing through Google and found this site which most people from what I hear properly already know about but might be useful for newbies or just people that have better things to do..hahaha

Is a list of PRLs for all sorts of carriers that should work with our EVOs!!
Radio: 2.15.00.0808
PRI: 2.15_003
PRL: numerous, Boost 61007 seems to provide the best overall performance when I need a steady signal.
Speeds: average daytime is 400-800 kbps
Location: Charlotte, NC
Ive been trying to get roam to work for a couple weeks. I can data roam on Cricket at 900-1400 kbps. Calls don't work on Cricket. I can't get Verizon/Alltel to work no matter what I do. The most success I have had is Sprint Digital Roaming on a modified Alltel prl, 31010-mod.prl(found it in the xda Hero forums). I achieved a max speed of 2180 kbps and average daytime of 1200-1900 kbps. I had to remove the throttle files from services.jar to get the speeds to stick; otherwise, the speeds slow down to normal Boost speeds after about 10 minutes. I only get the high speeds in the uptown Charlotte area. When I go out of the city, I pickup other towers and my speeds taper off to 400-800 kbps. Both calls and data work.

Wow... I can only say wow... I am lucky if I ever get anything over 600 kb d/l and 400 u/l in Miami. The only time I got speeds like yours were once when I was in Atlanta.... I just flashed the latest Radio/PRI/NV (2.15.00.08.08 and PRI 2.15_003) convo and I am sporting 61007... but depending on how this comes out... I am going with your set up.
Edit: I am getting (at night ) about 1.1 MB d/l and really irregular speeds for u/l ranging between 150 kb to 400 kb....
I cleaned up the thread. There is no illegal discussion of any kind in here, so the thread stays.
@mazda,
Sorry about deleting your posts but I am trying to clean the thread from crap unrelated to this.
@moto_google,
Do this once again and you will be banned. No questions asked. The thread does not involve discussion about illegal activities. If you find a guide about ESN changing here on xda, I will gladly take it down as I have with countless others. This is NOT the case.
Final warning.
As I know that you are likely trying to troll this thread, let me just say that the guide you are referring to does not talk about how to change the esn or the meid.

Awesome thread
Great thread. I always have weak signal and not its time for me to try soem of your guys set-ups. before mostly I have just flashed ROMS. Now hopefully my signal can improve.
Just one quick question. Is it possible for our Boost phones to roam on other carriers towers? I thought Boost only worked on the Sprint network, with no roaming allowed?

I'm able to roam on Sprint Digital Roaming. It still gets the signal from Sprint towers but its labeled as digital roaming and the data is faster than straight Sprint. I can get data to roam on cricket, but no calls. I can't get Alltel/verizon towers to roam.

Dude you still don't get it. Show me were boost mobile coporate store will flash any non boost mobile phone to boost mobile. The only way to get your non boost mobile branded phone onto boost is to either have a boost car rep add in your esn which they can get fired for doing or to change your non boost branded phones esn to an esn that the boost system will accept. Which is illegal. So how is it I am trolling. Prove to me that a boost coporate store inside the coporate sprint store will flash your non boost phone to boost. you can't can you.

It's very possible to put many sprint branded phones on boost just by calling into boost and adding your Sprint Esn. Sprint premium phones such as the EVO and other carrier phones can only be added with the Esn repair, which is questionable for legality. Happy now? Move on so we can continue with the OP's topic which has zero to do with your nonsense.

The regular coverage map for data shows Spark coverage in addition to standard 3g/4g. Don't have it in my market yet but according to Sprint is supposed to reach peak speeds of 50-60mbps.
My stuff slow.....whats funny is they allegedly always workin on the towers or fixing something and always got the fukin nerve to be coming out with some allegedly newer or better/faster but never seems to fix what they already got running..... I swear if it wasn't for this employee discount that I receive which pretty much take $20 off my bill I would be so done with Sprint for this average service I get

I dont go by sprint maps on their site. Go to s4gru.com become a member and donate about $10~$20 bucks to become a sponsor member which will let you see map coverage and every sprint tower in this country, can see which one is active with 3g only or 4g only or a towers with both 3g/4g active that site has alot of great info about sprints coverage and more.
Im in miami where band 41 in most tower is active but i cant recall if miami was already launched with spark but here's some tests.

According to Sprint....
"These tri-band devices support active hand-off mode between 800MHz, 1.9GHz and 2.5GHz providing data session continuity as the devices move between spectrum bands."
"these devices are expected to give users the best experience by shifting from one band to another, depending on what speed is needed for the application in use at a given moment."
Supposedly band 3 is for international. Enabling it does nothing.
I disabled band 3 and the other 3 options enabled. It doesnt let me choose the order. Looking at the sprint map it shows spark in dfw.

I live in the Portland Oregon metro area and on 2 occasions when my GF has called me (from her S4 to my S5), the call was in HD voice. From what I understand, this can only happen in a spark situation. So I am betting they are getting ready to fire up the towers here in PDX ahead of schedule.

Tri-band phones can only connect to LTE or CMDA(3G/1x) one at a time. To off set this towers and now being equipped Circuit Switched Fallback or Enhanced Circuit Switched Fallback. You are probably in an are where the Circuit Switched Fallback (CSFB) and Enhanced Circuit Switched Fallback (eCSFB) are not equipped on the towers. Sprint hasn't deployed this to most of its network yet. Areas that don’t have it already have no expected time frame for the roll out of this network technology, and since your smartphone is designed to prefer the ability to make and receive phone calls at all costs, it is programmed to stay on CDMA.

This is the best info that I've seen anout this situation. I can get LTE if I update PRL or toggle airplane mode. Calling Sprint does nothing BC most have no clue what this is and everything they see is working as should. Very very frustrating to hear "oh your device is the issue, go return it for a new one". I can also go into LTE only mode and it stay connected until I change it.
