T-Mobile was offering a web special on a free G2 for activating a new line. Even with Sprint's 2-year contract renewal, the Evo Shift 4G and Nexus S 4G cost $150 and $200, respectively. Also, 4.3" devices like the EVO 3D are of no interest to me. It was cheaper for me to cough up the early termination fee. My G2 should arrive on Monday.
Before I leave, I want to thank everyone who has positively contributed to my Android experience with the Hero. This development community continues to exceeded my expectations... I still find it hard to believe we're all content with running an Android with 1st generation hardware, and we have great devs to thank for that. Even after the legendary devs like toastcfh, nfinitefx45, and others have left, we have new great devs who filled in. And of course, thanks to all the regulars who keep this forum alive and provide a supportive environment (you know who you are). Although I'm not as talkative and dedicated as some of you, I just hope I've been able contribute my share of helping and support as well
you will be missed sir.. and i dont blame you thats a pretty good deal.. im too stuck on sprint to leave, they have been too good to me over the years.. but have often said that if i left i would go t-mo for some of their devices.. so God speed my friend, im sure we will see you floating around here somewhere..
A man it was a blast having you apart of the hero community. Thanks for all the knowledge and time you put into the hero forums. Take care and enjoy your new phone. Have a good one.
#Root/Hack-Mod_Always*
Thanks for the kind words everyone I'll probably still be checking up on the never ending progress that is aospCmod and the revived 2.6.35 kernel
Peace c00ller. Enjoy your new phone. It was fun
Cooller,
Thanks for the help that you have given to many. I, as many others I'm sure- and as you can see, appreciate what you have brought to the hero threads. I moved from Verizon to Sprint for the $ reason's as well and for me, it was a good move. I got my 1st android phone (our Hero's) and I found XDA. It has been a great experience (learning, fun, and a great way to kill some time) and you have been a part of making it so.
Good luck and happy flashing. I know that whatever phone you are using, you will still be apart of this great community on XDA and the jewels that are made and found here.
I think I feel a tear coming on. No, it was just gas.
Happy Flashing!
DP (I should have gone with DogPoop instead since I'm not drunk and not a pilot...today anyway).
Upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S II from my tried and true Aria. Everyone on this forum has ALWAYS been more than happy to help out with anything, including walking through troubleshooting over IRC. The guys in the SGS2 forums, well... are mostly arrogant, self-important asses.
I miss dealing with everyone's excellent explanations, flawless step-by-step tutorials, and kind words for everyone. Can I talk anyone into working on the Samsung side?

Having come from being a dev on a 'huge' device like the S-II (I was on the HTC Hero, which had a lot of sales), it's very easy to get into that 'angry' dev mood when you have 20-30 people PMing you a day asking for everything from personalized builds to a build for their blackberry. Don't assume the devs are on a high horse... it could just be that their hobby of phone hacking has started to feel unappreciated with all the beggars.
I had the same experience with my old LG Incite (Windows Mobile).
The forum for that phone had excellent developers as well - especially compared to the "big guys."
It must have something to do with the volume of idiots asking for stuff (see previous post).
With a low volume phone like the Aria (and my Incite before that), the users are really grateful just to have someone working on the device - and don't think too much about tons of extras.
.
Yeaa. we have a small community so therefore less grouchy people. The infuse forums are real bad too. Lol

The skyrocket community is pretty big. The T989 is pretty much the same phone, so lots of T989 users come to the skyrocket forums in search of a safe haven from the hell that is the T989 forums.
I love run-ons.

I have no doubts every phone will have its own little niche community here, but it annoys me to hear some are more unfriendly than others. I am hoping to get my hands on a Samsung phone when my contract expires, so I hope I won't be picked on too much.

Well everyone, I have officially left my EVO and Sprint for the Samsung Galaxy Note I717. I don't want to get into the technical or network reasons as to why, I just felt the need to and I love my new device.
Please know, I am going to miss everyone that stayed with arguably one of the best and well developed devices. I made a lot of friends here (you know who you are ) and hope to keep them. This forum taught me a lot...I never owned an Android powered device until my EVO. And I'm glad I did!
I'm still here on XDA...just a different forum now. If you ever want to stop by the Note I717 forums, feel free to give me a shout out. I have so much to learn and new friends to make. But my heart will also be attached to my OG HTC EVO 4G.
I never say goodbye...just see you later. As said in the U.S. Marine Corps...fair winds and following seas.
If anyone wants to follow me one twitter search @sag7392 or G+ number -104120724633888200210 ...I will also answer or follow you.
Holla' at ya' boy sometime!
Namaste,

Thank you for all you have done.
As the Moderator of this Forum, I want to thank all of you for being such a great Group. I find this Group one of the best in XDA, helpful, considerate and dedicated to the "let's try to improve our experience" on the Vibrant.
Now the S3 is coming ..... we will see many leave and move on...... This is to be expected...... but I am always sorry to see the waning of a great group of people...... such as all of you.
You know, the Vibrant has had an amazing run of support, more so than almost any other device.... I still love my Vibrant......even though I have a G-Nex and a Note...... I learned most skills on the Vibe....... and still love using it.
Anyway, Here at XDA we appreciate all the developers, Modders, Themers, and all the other contributing members such as yourselves...... that make XDA.
Thanks for making my job easy.......... Oka1 (moderator)
Thank you for your kind words, at first glance I though you were saying your goodbyes, but not the case.
People will leave but people will join, those phones have to go somewhere don't you think? Your right on the support, who knew this phone could get froyo, gingerbread even ICS, thank you devs.
Thank you oka1 for making this forum a more enjoyable one. Cheers

Yes, thank you to all the helpful people in this forum. Also thank you oka1, for you're one of the good people, you know based on other good people's feedback. You have certainly helped calm this forum from what it was a while back.
So, here's to all the helpful people..., to you oka1, one of the good people, to people who have moved on and people who are still here. Here's to all the countless evenings and mornings spent on this forum. Here's to tomorrow. Thank you.

I had a choice of getting a Nexus S or a Vibrant and had a few days to decide. I used those days to browse both fora. I am glad to say that I picked the right one. I have met many good people here and hope that the crop of newer users will be as cordial, intelligent and helpful.
This is way more useful than my tablet forum (oka1 is the mod there too). Over there it is hard to post anything without 15 responses about how you are wrong or that doesn't work for me. It makes it real frustrating. But it also makes me appreciate the Vibrant threads much, much more.
I think partly it is due to the fact that we didn't really get any official updates.
Yeah we got Froyo after much gnashing of teeth, but it wasn't OTA.
It was more of an afterthought especially since you needed to use Kies to install it. But even without Samsung/T-Mobile support, we were among the first phones running ICS. How does that even happen?
It is because we are all hungry for all the improvements that have come available for our phones, and we are extremely thankful and grateful to those that provide them to us. We were all in the same boat, and that led to an appreciation that some of the other forums do not have (or even understand).
The nature of the internet is inherently selfish, as most people demonstrate when they feel relatively anonymous, but we really do have a good community here.
I have asked a lot of questions along the way since I joined. Some were noobish, some were dumb, but no one mocked me for asking. Other people just helped get me on the right track. You can't ask for more than that, and to have those kinds of interactions in an online forum is remarkable. That spirit has led to many users becoming developers and creating new kernels and ROMs for this phone, and giving back to the community.
Also, it helps that the hardware in our phones is still relevent after 2 years...high end specs help a lot. People just seem to want to dev for this phone. As much as I would love to get a new phone such as the One S or the GS3, it is hard to justify when this phone is still chugging along just fine.
Thank you Oka1. If this is one of the best groups on XDA, then you've got to be one of the best moderators on XDA. It's been a good run, two years, and it's been an inspiring two years at that. I've learned things I never knew before, been helped when stuck or inquisitive, and in turn I've done my best to help the community in return. You guys are great, all of you here on the Vibrant forum (except the guy who ranted at mr_psycho). Woodrube, xriderx66, dougfresh, Oka1, and s15274n are just a few of the people I've been given the privilege to converse with here. Of course there are others, but then I'd practically be naming everyone in the Vibrant community!
It's funny, one day I was asking how to remove CWR because I thought it was bad for my phone and then the next I was flashing custom roms... One day I was asking people how to install Miui on my phone and then the next I was making a guide about it. I've leaned a lot here and thus I thank all of you guys.
Since I'm not good with speeches and what not. I love you all! Seriously. This was my second smartphone, I had a meh experience with the G1 and this has been the best, and I KNOW that nothing can be better than this.
Even if you are leaving, be sure to come back once in a while and say hello
I was such a noob entering into the flashing world had the g1 and hd2. Wasn't impressed with either (didn't know about any of this stuff) when I got my vibrant and was curious I stumbled into xda,edt and the axura forums. Wow was I clueless on the capabilities of these phones. As the 21st nears and I know the gs3 will soon be in my hot little hands I wish to thank oka for everything he's done for this forum. I will not yet bid farewell however.

No Oka, thank YOU man! I know I don't host over here anymore, and don't respond to much either, but this post deserves it.
We all owe it to you for cleaning up this forum and putting those habitual line steppers in check, before you came around here, man, this place was a disaster in many threads.
I too love my Vibrant, it birthed my dev "career", when the day comes that I do upgrade, its going to be a sad one indeed, and I don't think I'll ever get rid of Betsy. More like enshrine her in a glass case on the mantle, and tell my grandkids stories of how Oka1 came riding over the hills and cleaned up this one horse town, making it a pleasing experience for all the devs, themers, and users alike.

Just playing; im very happy with this community as well.. it has really made my xda experience a very enjoyable one.
The vibrant is quite a legend and even though sometimes the flagships can tempt me, i know that this is all ill need for a couple more years.
Tbh though, once my contract runs out, this will become my backup or go to my family members (my mother still uses a moto SLVR from like 2004 lol)

im from malaysia, we didnt have samsung vibrant here, but i happened to get myself 1. i just want to say that i still like this phone very much even though i have a note. yea, we lack of updates, but thanks to all developers here, my vibrant gets a new life. they've done so much for us (needless to say what). would like to say thanks a million to all developers for your hard works. btw, im not going to leave this forum, i still love my vibrant...peace
Got my Vibe on release day 2010. I have many friends with many diff android devices and have never seen the collective collaboration like I have seen here. The amount of support this device has received is incredible to say the least. Thank you Oka1, devs and supporting members that turned me from flash noob, to flash intermediate. I have acquired many useful rooting skills and it all started here!
Hey guys,
Been on these forums for two years. Outstanding community and I've had SO MUCH fun. Upgrading the the Galaxy 3 in a few weeks and I will see you all over there!
hey guys, i wanted to say thanks to everyone in this forum:
- the devs for taking time creating amazing work that to help improve, theme, mod, etc. our device to an extent beyond the what samsung/sprint couldnt or wouldnt do. THE DEVS ARE THE DRIVING FORCE OF THIS SITE - i cannot thank u enough either monetarily or by clicking the "thanks" button. ur work (regardless if i have flashed it or not) is incredible. cheers!
- the members for helping out the devs w/bug reports, answering questions, and general help w/either questions i had or welcoming in a rookie. this is a VERY friendly forum and thats not always the case in other forums. thanks!
for anyone who cares i haved moved on to the GSIII. i took advantage of the one day $100 best buy sale a few days back. the EPIC 4G was my first smartphone and android device. because of the devs and the community here - I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A "non android" PHONE. i understand now why its even laughable to me that anyone would purchase an iPhone over and android device.
long live the original and BEST of the Galaxy S devices.:highfive:
thanks again guys!!!
*for the savvy readers who caught the (*)asterick in the title of thread...its because my wife still has her EPIC 4G. i made needs ya'lls help in the future
