I have found some wpa_suplicant file to activate adhoc wifi support in some tablets (Galaxy Tab 10" for example) but any of them works on ICS. Is there a way to have Adhoc support on Galaxy Tab 2 7?
Best regards
Would like to know this too. I find myself in a situation where I'd like to ad-hoc with a Windows 7 machine, but the wifi network I create there doesn't turn up on the list in the Galaxy Tab's access point list.

Hi!
Did anyone manage to connect to an ad hoc wifi network? Its my understanding that you have to root your phone and edit some files in order to do so. My phone is already rooted. Anyone willing to try it out and give the steps here?
Thanks!
Android 2.1 does not support this.
Yes! I know that! But i think you can edit some files after rooting in order to allow this?
Galaxy S wont find ad hoc AP, how to fix?
Hi, how to configure galaxy to connect to a ad hoc ap? It seems like wont find the ac hoc SSID at all?
Hello,
Ad Hoc Access Points support start with Froyo, if you really need it, give the latest XXJP2 a try
Any luck finding the answer?
Nope! No luck yet! And it seems no one is interested
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
have you tried modifying those files (wpa_supplicant.conf and others)?
Are you just trying to use your phone as a mobile APN? Because this is built into the galaxy S.

I am trying to use my wired LAN connection on my phone using the Laptop's ad-hoc wifi connection.
I'm reasonably confident that it simply isn't supported in Android 2.1 and that it's totally unrelated to config files (i.e. There's nothing your average user can do about it). I don't know if ad-hoc wireless made it into Froyo but there has definitely been an official feature request filed to Google for ad-hoc functionality.
i also find it very annoying that sgs doesn't support ad-hoc.
You can try to use this software http://www.connectify.me/
sadly it uses windows 7..
Just had a look over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754961
Can any dev please patch the SGS version of wpa_supplicant? Pretty please?
Another thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755254
really??
i couldn't find it even though i have jp3
The android OS filters out all Ad-hoc networks. There was a patched wpa_supplicant that seems to be working for some. I tried it and it does display the ad-hoc networks but fails when trying to obtain an IP... I am stay playing with it but I will update if I even manage a connection.

[Q] ad hoc in jpc??

is there any trick to connect wi-fi from laptop to galaxy s.
PS: i use vista, so no connectify.

I can't seem to get my Tab to recognize the WEP WiFi internet sharing network that is on my Tilt2 (Rhodium) WMPPC. My netbook, my two full-sized notebooks, and my desktop all can simultaneously connect to the WM phone (in fact I am right now on this netbook to post this), but for whatever reason the Galaxy Tab can't even find the WEP network my WM phone is generating much less connect to it.
The entire reason I bought the Tab was to connect to my WM phone like the phone was a mobile wireless router. ???
Anyone had this issue? I'm sure a number of you came from a WM phone and used wifi router feature. And the Tab looks like it supports WEP networks and encryption.
Update: installing a warlogger style applet on the Tab called "Wifi Tracker" finds the WM-generated WEP nework. So is it Samsuing's native wifi setup that blows?
It finds my WM network as [WEP][IBSS].

I know this doesn't help you one iota, but for what it's worth, my Tab can pick up HTC Desire as a mobile Hotspot without issue. I normally use WPA2, but I just tried using WEP and I had no problems either.
So, I don't think there's anything intrinsically "wrong" with the Tab, though I have a Euro Tab running the very latest JMA firmware which may be significant.
If I had an WinMo phone to test with, I'd give it a go, but I don't, so I can't!
I presume that your WinMo phone is created a proper access point, and not an adhoc (point-to-point) network?
EDIT: Ok, just googled and found that IBSS means it is an ad-hoc network, and not an access point which means that "out of the box" Android devices can't attach to it.
This thread may help you.

I have a tmobile galaxy tab running on Roto JMI v2, and I dont have any cellular/data connection now. I have a winmo phone where I have wi-fi router installed which has internet available.
My galaxy tab can never see the wireless network which is being broadcasted by my winmo phone. I know my phone is doing the right thing as I can connect my laptop to it and surf the internet, but my galaxy tab does not see it.
I tried adding it manually, but still no connection.
Did anyone face this problem? Is it something to do with winmo phones?
I bet it's an ad-hoc network, you'll need to edit wpa_supplicant.conf
Not Winmo specifically, but ADHOC networks in general. Had to replace the WPA_supplicant with one that would allow adhoc connections. I've done that and it works fine. Might be the same issue.
There is a topic on this board about connecting your GTAB to a OG Droid or Droid X and it has the links to the file and the process...
iconia tab a500 Cant find/connect to 'hd2 as wifi router'. But Laptops find and connect to my 'hd2 as wifi router'.
I did not reach the connection limit (only the iconia).
Tried different roms and i still get the same "other devices can connect but not the iconia "
appreciate any input.
It might be because the HD2 is creating a wifi Ad-Hoc network and android can't connect to those for wifi. Other than that, not too sure.
is your HD2 running windows or android ?
I don't own one, but elsewhere on these forums saw reference that the HD2 does ad-hoc networking when it acts as the router.
You need to do the wpa_supplicant fix on your tablet to be able to use it. The same file that fixes the Xoom works on our A500's.

Hi,
I've do some explanation of what i want to do first.
I've an Wifi OBD2 adaptor in my car that allow me to use apps in my Galaxy S4 like Dashcommand. In the past, i'Ve an iPhone, which i can use whit that. But now, my galaxy S4, and many other android device i've try like Galaxy Nexus, or Galaxy S3, doesn't see the adapter wifi network.
I've do some search on the internet, and found it's because Android doesn't support natively the AD-Hoc network mode. Whit the search result, i've found some WPA_Supplicant file that i've put on my rooted phone, and nothing i'Ve try let me use wifi.
I've use the original roms, try in the past Cyanogen Nightlies on a SGS3.
Anyone have an WPA_Supplicant file that compatible whit the S4?
Thank you very much for your help!
