It's finally here! A few days ago, the CM team released official cyanogenmod 9 builds for over 28 different devices, including the xperia play. These RC1 builds are much more stable, faster, and have better battery life than most fan-made ports, or previous nightly builds.
My play is broken so I can't test, but the CM9 I installed on my s2 a few days ago is far faster, and functional, than any CM9 build tried previous. The s2 build is of course also a just-released RC1 done on the same day.
I've noticed certain things like my GPS which had problems on every other ROM is suddenly working very well.
Be sure to go over the cyanogenmod website and grab a copy! You won't regret it.

No kidding, seeing as how we've had THE EXACT SAME BOTS building nightlies for almost a month.. btw, fxp is the maintainer for cm9 so anything on cm9 has gone through his team..exact.same.rom.
Hey guys, The OP is just saying that he feels it's more stable and some people aren't aware that it's now official even though it has been out a little while....but OP probably should post the link to download for Zeus & Zeusc. I think CDMA is Zeusc. I always thought FXP was somehow different but you are probably right.lol

Hi guys, will this work on the Galaxy Tab 10.1? Anyone tested yet?
I searched around Cyanogen downloads, RC1 isn't present there in the list, just the NIGHTLY releases.
I will look forward to test this amazing rom by CM9.
Cheers to all.

kinda sucks that Motorola Droid users are getting dropped.
But I imagined it was only a matter of time...
The hardware is starting to get limited.
But I wonder if a dual core phone will be the last phone I will ever buy?
It would take quite some time for the OS to exceed the power of a dual core phone.
I think there's a pretty good chance the G2 will be one of the first devices, based on this update.

Hope they got the graphical and camera driver developed better than the current ported/AOSP based ICS.
I posted this the other day in the CM7 thread in the dev forum :
Update on CM9 from Cyanogen (Steve Kondik) himself :
We've been seeing some alpha builds of CM9 for a few devices. Where are things at right now?
We’re working on adding a lot of new features ... the theme engine needs to be totally rebuilt. Overall things are going to be a lot cleaner. The CM settings will all be integrated into the stock control panel. Everything in it's place, where it should be. The hardeset thing about CM9 is that Google has changed so much internally with ICS. Issues with graphics drivers are an issue. We can’t even write a transition layer to use. We’re just waiting on Google at this point. I’ve ported CM9 to the galaxy tab 10.1, but with no hardware acceleration... well, it just sucks. A lot of things don't work. We're not going to release something at this stage of development.

I think I may try this one Monday. I had a replacement phone sent to me last week because of a display issue (turning shades of green and sometimes not waking up). The replacement they sent me is now going into a boot cycle when I try and turn on the WiFi, and it doesn't find any networks. Plus, I updated the stock Froyo to Gingerbread, and it looks like a pain somewhat to downgrade.
So maybe when I get the new one in Monday it will have stock Froyo and I can root and install the Virtuous Quattro ROM then.
Maybe you guys can answer a question since I am thinking about it now, if I do root it and everything with stock Froyo, do I just make a backup with ClockworkMod to keep the stock image?
my ics experience: virtuous quattro RC2, Andromadus Alpha 8, ICS Slim 1.2
I tried all three ICS ROMs on my G2 this weekend. Kudos to the devs -- they are all worthy projects. I am back to CM7, though while waiting for CM9 or a more stable version of the other three. Here is my feedback:
Virtuous Quattro RC2:
This is an impressive ROM, but definitely not RC -- the launcher display glitch is a showstopper if only for aesthetic reasons. I'm glad that the camera hack exists (progress!), but it's not yet usable, or at least not reliable. It often crashes, doesn't show preview until the second picture, and often corrupts part of the photo. Also, no wifi-calling which is a must have for many T-Mobile G2 users.
Andromadus Alpha 8:
This ROM is more stable than Virtuous Quattro in terms of visual glitches, but it lacks camera and wifi-calling. I missed some of the settings and features built into Quattro.
ICS Slim 1.2
This ROM performs quite nicely and is definitely slim. I missed the stock Email app, but it was easy to add back in by unzipping an ICS Gapps file. Wifi-calling is installed but not working for me. I was able to launch the app, and get the icon in the notification bar, but wasn't able to actually place or receive calls. Incoming calls were ignored, and outgoing calls would spin on dialing for about 20 seconds, and then end with a beep.

Same here I was thinking we'd see CM9 sometime in february but by the looks of things and how slow the development is, I can only hope for march/april
http://miuiandroid.com/2012/01/miui-rom-2-1-6-ics-v4-0-miuiandroid-english-version/
So many devices have this newer version of MIUI and some of them are the Vibrant I9000 and Captivate. Does this mean we are next to receive it since our fellow Galaxy S have received it?It says it's based of ICS 4.0 and seems like the only Rom close to bringing us any type of ICS goodness unless CM9 is coming first. Im just curious I saw the list of phones that have it but the EPIC wasnt listed and I became sad.
Anyone know more of this than I do really hoping it does come to our phones..
Sorry. We won't get it until after cm9 is available and considering that the cm team for epic just started on cm9, we're still a ways away. Sorry, but I just steal their stuff and add it to existing miui.us galaxy s series devices roms. So without it, I have nothing to add from epic. We can however get the gb version of 2.1.6 (the miui.us team is doing both gb and ics builds still). The CM team is incredible, so give them some time and they'll give us a great build. I think on ics, I may have to recommend cm9 over miui.us 4.0 because miui.us looks 99.999999% the same as miui.us gb, but cm9 provides a fresh new ui. Just my opinion though. I'll continue to maintain miui.us on ics as long as there's enough demand.

Thats pretty much all they changed though. There's a better browser and slightly different user interface to the messaging app. At least based on the videos I've watched and talking to people who've run it on the Nexus on the MIUI.US IRC.
EDIT: It looks really nice on the Galaxy Nexus though. But on the Nexus S/4G it looks pretty much the same as before.

Well i cant really see that this is a big problem, due to the fact that there are several custom version of ICS out already.

The icssgs r4.2 build I tried was very stable, used it for 4 days without a problem except for battery drain which will no doubt be sorted in due course.

Am I missing something? Just came in to check new update but horrified to see the thread marked DISCONTINUED and closed!
Bad news?
read last 20-30 posts of the dev thread - it looks like note will get official CM9 very soon, so no need for Imilka's rom
Imilka was first of all never planning to release cm9. he made the cm9 build for his own love.. but he was not sure if he shoudl release it.
I had asked encouraged him.. he should
but not sure why he took it down. maybe he thought its unofficial. will ask him about it
btw, teamhacksung is already working on cm9 with custom open source kernel for the note.. so we will get an official build soon!
But shouldn't be discontinued until CM team makes a release. At least we have Imilka's ported ROM to keep us busy while waiting.
CM team SOON to release official galaxy note cm9 mod, Imilka's CM9 ROM early closure is a bad news still.

Completely understand your feeling. Will miss Imilka's excellent work!
Since Imilka said he will support it at least untill it gets official support - and it's discontinued now - i guess it's getting official very soon. Would be nice if they incorporated some of Imilka's work on it though - was a good work right ? Would be a shame to toss it away.
Well, let's just hope to see official builds as soon as possible.
What ever the reason Imilka I thank you for your hard work. I enjoy flashing your roms on my note
No more CM9, no more AOSP... Maybe he joins the dark side? I hope not.
AOSP&CM9 ARE the dark side
Just got an update from Imilka.
He has discontinued cm9, because official version will be out soon, so he doesn't see a point working on it more
He has discontinued aosp, because its not used that much, as cm and aokp are more widely used,
so he doesnt seem there is a point in putting his energies here.
but he might be back soon with something else
Let's hope cm9 comes before ics for the note from Samsung
But very excited about this news

Me too! I used Imilka V8 and Imilka CM9 v02 anh I feel pleasent.
Accept one thing that Imilka miss that S-pen functions, the power of the Note.
Hope Imilka will be back with more powerful ROM with S-pen facilities.
Many thanks again.
Very sad to see it discontinued as well. Imilka's CM9 ROM was hands down the best ROM I have ever used on my Note (and I've tried a lot of ROMs!). I will continue to use v03 until we have an official port.
I only hope that it is soon... As Galaxy Note users, we have become far too accustomed to hearing "coming soon", only to be disappointed.
Looks like Entropy is making good progress though, so I remain optimistic!

The key is they almost have the same specs. There will not be an official CM release for DHD untill things are working. Right now the biggest hurdle is the camera, but there are other smaller issues and tweaks to be made before they will release an official version. I am running an unnofficial CM10 build by Randomblame that I like quite a bit atm. Things feel like the are progressing pretty quickly, so I have hope we'll see a strong/stable JB build in the coming weeks.

Yes it is. Look at the stable releases. You have CM 7.2.0 which was released June 15th,
It's a shame though. I never like Vanilla Android (and CM) until ICS. HTC Sense is the reason why I always stuck to HTC phones. However, with the UI advancements in ICS and JB, I would happily drop HTC Sense. Looks like that will never come to fruition on the Desire HD though, as there won't be an official CM9 or CM10 unless we get the source code from HTC first.
HTC really are killing themselves. Once industry leaders, they are now lagging far far behind. Sort of like a 100m runner competing in a marathon (sorry, I've been watching way too much of the Olympic Games)!

Specs mean nothing. It is all hardware, driver, kernel related. You have to remember that drivers for a lot of hard ware is not open source so they have to be built from the ground up. Without kernel source it is a lot more difficult.

Because the nexus is a galaxy phone. All the galaxy phones are alot closer then HTC phones. You can take most of the stuff from the nexus and it will work on the galaxy s with only minor changes to the kernel and coding.
Also you have to remember that HTC big thing is Sense. They want every HTC running it so they are not huge supporters of AOSP.

I can't see why you don't understand. The Galaxy S is pretty much identical to the Nexus S. They have the same CPU and GPU. So the CM team pretty much had the drivers for the Galaxy S when the Nexus S source code was released.

now that desire HD has got a fully working unofficial rom ported from incredible s, where the camera works great which was the actual reason that was stopping the CM team from building a CM9 for DHD.. cant they build one now ? :fingers-crossed:
If I am correct, you can't use a Sense kernel on a ASOP kernel. Although having the Sense kernel will help, you can't plop in a Sense kernel on a ASOP rom. If those CM10 betas get any better, then CM may start official nightlies. The main problem is all internal, how the phone manages RAM and especially using the SD Card is relatively unstable compared to a Sense Rom (most people consider it very stable but CM wants everything to be somewhat perfect and truthfully it kinda is unstable).
