I have been around 51°C, but normally around 47°C when my phone is working hard. So guess it's kinda normal...
/CK

yep, mine gets really hot when I run the WAZE app on it as well as if i'm listening to streaming music on it. Unless i hold it up to the A/C vents in the car, it will get too hot for me to put it up to my ear to make/receive a call.

I also have problems when I use it as a navigation tool on my motorbike. The waterproof sat nav case prevents circulation and after 20 mins I get a message that battery charging stopped because of to much heat. Figuring now out how to add some vent with a fan/vent.

I don't even like playing games anymore because of how hot it gets.

And with current consumer Law Samsung will have an obligation to either repair or replace the device.
use your phone as normal.

Yes and the only solution it is undervolting the gpu and cpu with some app like tegrak, setcpu or cpu master

I swtiched from LR1 modem to LPT today and I swear my phone is running cooler. I've used it the same as I do everyday and I can really tell it is cooler. Although LPT is slower in speed test for me I think I will keep it for awhile.

strange right? i then unplugged the charger and put it back in, it was back to normal..
but heres the temps... temps are legit, the phone was cool to the touch (and i know what warm is! )
...
I've had this issue too. The other day my phone was at 52degrees whilst charging.
Someone suggested the cases may be to blame. I use a gel skin but have sent for the official case.

yeah, but the temperatures are cooler than normal? :S, it NEVER hits below 29.0C ...
Today is a hot day, and my phone is at 32 degrees whatsapping online for 20 minutes. But playing games it jumps to 40-45, really painful to receive a call after that. I hope they can lower the CPU speed when it gets hot, that way it won't create as much heat or something. I don't know.
I am having this same issue on my Galaxy Tab

Painful as in burning your ears or any other issues we should be aware of ? We should issue a warning: "Don't play games when you expect a call" or get yourself a personalized voicemail message: Hi, i'm playing games on my phone right now and my battery temp is >50C, there's no way in hell i will reply to any call
argh, i gotten this popup too when i tried to charge my phone. wasn't doing anything with the phone!
@OP Sorry, out of topic question. What is the widget that monitor your cpu speed+ temperature?
Setcpu I believe.

battery overheating

hi guys..just got SGS2 and I have battery overheating problem, I saw a lot links on google with that problem but could not find solution...is there a soultion for this kinda big problem?
It's not the battery..it's the phone and processor overheating, working nonstop due to constant updates of apps, searching for signal and so on. It's like a car revved up on traffic.
Try to find out what's actually running on the phone, you can start by reading battery related threads.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
thank you for your quick tip...for example, all apps are down, i only use browser and after 10 min it is so hot...so there is no any custom rom here that reduces this heat a bit??? seems little bit to much
There has to be something running in the background..could be apps updating, or phone searching for signal(especially if you have wrong modem installed).
I personally check Every apps I installed, and make sure they don't do auto update. Quick check, try to turn off background data, and then auto sync (both in setting). See what happened.

To my experience
Using wifi with low signal can caused significant battery heat.

Are you using the phone while it's charging, that tends to heat it also

Relax, there is nothing wrong with your phone. If you play a game or browse flash powered sites, you can cook eggs on the back of your S2! Talk about multitasking phones, who else can cook you breakfast?
Personally, I reduced drastically the heat/power consumption by rooting the phone and removing over 60mb of crap. Now I run at 160mb of memory for services and my battery life easily doubled. It still heats when I charge it for a while... On my old Palm Pre2, after 2hrs of usage my battery was completely drained with similar heat issues.

That is a lot of wakelocks that maps is giving you there man!
Thanks, never thought about it... How do I fix this?
First: HOW HOT is Your hot ? (for an Eskimo 15 °C is already very hot)
Second: Leave it as it is. EVERY ELECTRICAL DEVICE gets hot when used. The more the hotter.
E.g. Laptop core i7 CPUs are designed for max. Heat of 105° C and my Vaio runs at 85°C when CPU is at 100%.

I'm gunna guess........ Latitude? Do you have this enabled? It depends on what you are trying to do, about 25% battery in 5 hours running time isn't too bad or anything, just all of those waking events add up. Also it could be that you are out and about and that your WiFi is constantly searching, that would be my other guess. But maps has already admitted to eating 21% of your charge on your third screenshot
Ya, latitude is on.

Post battery temps here.

While charging my galaxy s3 on Verizon can get little warm (103°f while being used) and I just wondered what everyone else was running at. So if you have a battery temp app or widget feel free to post your max temps and averages here.
Hmm 103f is what 39 deg Celsius? Seems quite normal to me for a battery while using, mine also gets warm if i use it for a while webbrowsing and stuff (i have mine on max brightness too). Also if you have a tight fitting/closed case those can raise temps up a bit (obviously)
-my 2 cents.

Yeah I have a case on order right now. When I am just browsing the Web the phone doesn't get too warm, but if I am browsing the Web and charging it can get hot.

I think galaxy s3 doesn't read the temperature right. I feel the phone very hot in my hands that is already uncomfortable and it says 99.0°F

Your battery skills are no match for Ingress...

Something really weird happens when playing Ingress the battery drains like a mofo which is expected and then when I stop even when I use the phone the battery stays flat for a while. Seems the power of Ingress is too much for the battery sensor on the phone. Makes it hard to know how much battery I really have though.
I hope they fix this. My SGS3 at least drains fast but normally not over a cliff like this.

its using gps, Accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, and all the cores to run so yeah its pretty resource heavy
My battery lasted a whole hour while playing Ingress last time. That's not too bad considering that the screen is on, with gps, etc etc.
I have seen this on any electronic devices, laptops, phones etc. I think it's just a software issue
I have seen this on any electronic devices
some ximpates
is it using stock rom and kernel?

Happens on every kernel so I think its a battery controller issue rather than kernel. The funny thing is after I stop it flat lines for a while so it obviously didn't really drain what it shows. Yes it uses basically every part of the phone at once but should be a smooth drop not off a cliff. One time I tried it went from 100% to 10% in like 1.5-2hrs of Ingress.
Lol

how long can you play ingress on a battery charge and on what phone. I have SGS2, standar battery and I can reach 2,5 hours of screen on time.

Overheating or not?

Upper half of my NEW phone gets uncomfortably hot even by daily activities.
CPU temp while browsing (65 percent brightness) gets to 158F (70C)
After 3 mins of Minions game it gets to 164F.
Idle- 140F

Is it normal?
My G2 almost always does that. IMO its normal.
Any more opinions?
Mine has never overheated (but does get warm enough), except for when it was rooted. I rooted yesterday only to install some custom fonts and the temp went right up...
bump
Blame the badly coded apps which utilise 100% CPU power despite the fact that less will do.
Yes your phone is perfectly fine. Keep in mind that the only cooler for your phone is it's environment. Since it's summer most places and the temperatures are getting warmer, the phone will not be able to cool as efficiently as it does when it's cold outside. As long as phones only have passive cooling and very powerful processors, this is what to expect. Take any flagship and you'll experience the same. You don't need to bump this anymore now =)
