Synctoy Backup replacement?!? - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

I've been using SyncToy as my backup app of choice. Just plug in, turn on USB Mass Storage and click Sync. Now with the GS3 and MTP that is no longer possible so I am looking for another way to have a specific set of directories backed up as easy as possible. I'm guessing through wifi would be my best option?

[Q] Using the Dash 3G on a mac?

Hi all I am new to windows mobile 6.1, well windows mobile period.I have a Macbook and do not have windows on a desktop available at all, which is really starting to bug me. I love this phone but have no real way of using it for what I would like, one of my biggest problems is that I cannot mount it as a USB drive on my mac and therefore have no way of transferring large files to my sdcard. I have tried bluetooth, but cant get it to work right and the only solutions I can find for mounting are $40+, money I really cant spare just to connect the phone to my computer. Any solutions or suggestions, thanks all in advance.
I am also a Mac user (most of the time). Here are some tips:
-I take photos directly to the storage card and just pop it out to transfer them to the Mac. When you plug the card into a regular USB card reader, it will mount.
This way you can also transfer large files back and forth.
Yes you have to take to back off, it's annoying I know.
-I have a corporate Exchange account so there is no need for me to sync locally. I never do. All my organizer data is synced over the air.
BUT if you need to sync it, there are a few choices:
-Buy "Missing Sync".
-Sync over the air to your Google account. Google now gives you OTA Activesync. There are also tools to sync your Mac into your Google account. Basically Google becomes your master DB.
-No experience with this, but I bet there are WiFi network sharing utilities. That could be another way.
-Bluetooth File Exchange is also available (though a bit slow).
Look at the Mark Space Missing Sync programme for mac, it will sync everything and allow you to mount the memory card if you wish.
there's also an apps called SyncMate for mac.,

hi Cooney,
you can try using iMobileTool Windows Mobile Backup Suite.
It allows you to backup both contacts and SMS from windows mobile to computer - Backup contacts and SMS into Text file format(.txt file).
I would backup your contacts in a .txt file via your HD and then transfer that file over to your PC, when you connect your phone via USB, make sure you select the Disk Drive radio button to avoid having ActiveSync immediately synchronise with Outlook. Then access your Removable Disk from My Computer and transfer the file over to your PC from there.
Hope this works.
Best Regards.

When you first establish an Activesync connection to your pc, it asks if you want to merge phone and pc, replace phone details with pc or pc details with phone. Choose either the first or last option (first is better for future sync's)
The iMobileTool Windows Mobile Backup Suite sounds like a good idea but it costs too much. I discovered that i could change the settings before it synced my contacts, so now i have it connected to the computer but still no way of moving my contacts from the phone to the computer. Are there no free ways of doing this?
Activesync is free. Did you not read my post?

Yes. That's the annoying thing, iMobileTool Windows Mobile Backup Suite as you will have to eventually have to pay for the software. However, if it makes any difference, you can download it from the link provided above, and use it's Free-Trial offer - allowing you to only backup the first 20 contacts/SMS.
EDIT: you might want to try Turbo Contacts Backup. It's free but it's requirements state it is only compatible with Windows Mobile Pocket PC 5 , 6 , 6.1... try it out and hopefully it will work with 6.5.
.
Regards.

Hi again Cooney,
First off, you are not stupid. Things are only easy when you know how.
Try this:
In WMDC on your PC, go to Options -> Settings and choose the setting to merge items on the desktop.
Hope this helps you out dude,
Best Regards.

Okay, my fault. I am using you as a guide as I don't use Windows 7 or WMDC
What you will need to do is delete your WMDC partnership (both on PDA and PC) and next time you try to sync your device to the PC with the USB cable, you should be given an option to merge your items or opt to replace all items.
Regards.

[Q] How to transfer files from computer?

The answer to my own question is Sharepoint apparently. I just found out about it. My mistake.
Original question:
I bought a data usb cable for my Focus hoping to set up a way to transfer files from my Windows 7 computer to the phone. I mostly want to put Office files on my cell phone, not videos or music. Business use. So Zune isn't what I need.
I can't get the computer to recognize the phone for file transfer. I tried both the Win7 Synch and the Win Mobile Device Center software.
The computer does know that the phone is hooked up and is ID'd as the Focus.
Is this not possible to do on the Focus?
Thanks.
Alan
Try using Skydrive (it's available via your Hotmail/Live/MSN account). I have everything synced via Skydrive and it works great. There's another solution, Homepipe, which I haven't yet tried. There's also a registry hack you can do on your Windows PC that will allow you to drag and drop files (again, not something I've tried, yet, because Skydrive works well for my needs).
Hope that helps.

How do you sync with Skydrive? Aside from using the browser and downloading the file? Is there a way to actually set up a sync aside from just OneNote?

Automatic backup /sync to pc over wifi

I have been searching for a solution to get my phone to backup all contents of the phone and sd card to a specific folder on my pc. I just want to not worry about having to do everything manually all the time.
I want to come home, have my profile manager turn on the wifi, phone detects home wifi on which my pc is, starts to backup all new content ontto the specified folder immediately.
I am mostly concerned about images, videos etc. Looking for a similar solution that eye-fi as / wifi card provides.
Anyone got any ideas or recommend for any apps that do this?

Try Titanium Media Sync https://market.android.com/details?id=com.keramidas.MediaSync&feature=more_from_developer
Same author as Titanium Backup. Can sync to FTP, SFTP, FTPS servers and dropbox. I use it to automatically store data like fotos, videos on my home server.
Syncness Wifi Sync is another one that I heard about. I have not tried it, but it supports wifi profiles like you mentioned. Might be worth a look.
For a free alternative you might try FolderSync Lite or (if you are a Dropbox user) Dropsync .
Let us know what ends up working for you.

This is the one that I have been looking at http://promwadmobile.com/portfolio/android-safe-backup.html
I did a quick trial and it easily found my network PCs over wifi and will auto backup on schedule. I don't think it will do the auo detect and backup though?

[Q] auto sync files tpt-windows xp

hi all,
for a while i am looking for a way to automatically sync files between my tablet (on dock) and my windows XP sp3 pc over usb. Looking for a trick to sync over the contents of one specified folder (includng subfolders) on connecting and on changes to the files, very much like windows sync or dropbox but then usb.
reason for usb is that i dont want docs in the cloud, nor can the pc and the tablet be on the same wifi (pc on lan). For some other reason, BT doesnt work either (although paired, no connection can be established). USB should be possible though, at least i thought.
I am aware of the MTP issue, which makes it hard just to use regular sync programs. I found only one windows program that reads mtp stations: pure sync. But that doenst really work, messes up everything this far by making additional copies of the files, trashing others, looping in syncs etc.
Here are some other things i tried and noticed:
- docs to go offers syncing for the full version, however thats one way and doesnt work automatically.
feedback from the guys of docs to go:
Unfortunately, Lenovo tablets are not supported on XP machines. On XP, Lenovo devices fail to provide file/directory names and modification dates for some reason.

- the way it is demonstrated at the lenovo website does not work, probably only does so when connecting to a lenovo laptop. No lenovo utility showing up and cant find a download.
support.lenovo.com/en_NZ/guides-and-manuals/detail.page?DocID=UM014085
(sorry, newbe so no outside links allowed)
- last thing i am tryin but struggling to get working is the app and desktop companion myphoneexplorer (fjsoft.at/en/) I cant get a connection although according to the app my tablet is properly connecter over usb.
- connecting and transferring each file via explorer is a burden. No bookmarks or shortcuts are possible, one has to look for the sub sub sub sub folder every time after reconnection and transferring is not easy as well, often not allowing copy past or accesssing the folder within applications that do not use the windows explorer (e.g. Total commander, sync apps)
- i have read a trick somewhere to connect the tablet using the PTP setting, whereby the DCIM folder is displayed. You allegedly could transfer files (also other than pics) to this folder and after disconnecting you would be able to read them out. But tht didnt work for me, plus the folders were not always accessible nor could i ad a shortcut or bookmark/favourite etc.
Anyone any thoughts on this? would be much appreciated.
additional info; running android 4.03
let me know if you need additional info.
tnx
