well, there's one way to install it BUT it's not legally, you can't install apple osx on
non-apple computers.
also it's hard and difficult, if you want osx buy a mac :good:

If your pc isn't intel I would even try it.

Look up dual booting, its common knowledge
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk 2

You can setup a virtual machine and dedicate 3/4 of your machines hardware to the VM, and then use it as your main OS but otherwise you need a hackintosh disk with amd/intel chipset drivers added.
sent from the other woman

There are some cheap 2008-09 macbook on ebay and craigslist, those eras are still supported, And since they arent ULV, You can put i7, a new HDD and more RAM on it

vmware workstation + mac osx guest patch

just use vmware8 with osx patch, it doesnt run the best but it runs osx
you could also build or buy a hackintosh, they are as reliable as windows pcs and they are faster than macs are for the price

Hackintosh and dual boot. InsanelyMac is your friend. READ that forum and then post a question thread if you still haven't figured it out. I would recommend finding a Gigabyte MoBo that works well for OS X and building your system around that. It will save you headaches.

so you are telling me that it's legal to install osx on non apple computers?
i've installed osx on almost >30 computers, and it's not easy. also not all the hardware it's supported, and only configured byself hackintosh can run perfectly it.
it's not so easy as install win7, as you know.

I made no comment about the "legality" if you read my post. Heck removing the tag from your mattress is illegal in the United States but the ATF isn't going to put a hollow point in your head if you do it. I've installed OS X on my Win 7 PC... no black helicopters came for me. I no longer think about the legality of installing software I PAID FOR on whatever box I happen to have lying around.

Macbook pro and Networking

Hey guys, I will start classes soon and my degree will be in Networking and Telecommunications.
I need to know if a macbook pro will be a good choice taking in consideration the fact that I can run Windows in it.
I may have to run Linux as well.
Sent From My G2x Running CM7
Macs will run nicely with windows using bootcamp assistant. If you need to tri-boot use wubi in windows to get ubuntu (which doesn't like macs as much)
+1 for Macs. I'm working on a degree in Computer Science, and my MacBook Pro has been absolutely fantastic. I have OSX, Windows, and Ubuntu all bootable both independently, and inside OSX. I also recommend looking into VMware Fusion, or something similar for booting Windows/Ubuntu inside OSX.
I am finishing my degree with my macbook, from my experience the macosx has most of the FreeBSD libraries installed anyways.
So you might not even have to run linux in a virtual machine or multi-boot.
Would either of you guys know where I can get a macbook pro for a good price?

Hell yeah! Can't wait to try this out
Wicked!
Shame there's no ARM support in today's release though, would have loved to see W8 on the Tab, Touchpad or Xoom
Windows 8 ? First cousin to Vista ? Just another new system to have the bugs worked out of it ? No thanks.
XP Pro forever !!!
Cool, I thought they will release it later...
I have a feeling windows 8 is gonna be hard to get used to
If you're a technical person it will take you about 7 seconds.
If you can't get used to it, I'll politely ask you to GTFO and never enter this forum again

this is a pre-release beta, no where near final but suppose to be very stable.
If you can't download it tonight, it sure will be available in torrent form soon enough.
I'm ready. I'm about to format my PC reinstalling W7, and Will make an extra partition for W8.
You can see the keynote speech here: http://www.buildwindows.com/
Looks interesting, but will hold judgement until I can have a play. Not sure how well it will work on a non-touch laptop or pc.
Anandtech's hands on with it. At the start they use it with a bluetooth kb+mouse before switching to touch.

We can always switch to apple?
I support users who find XP and Word difficult to use, W8 from a business point of view at first glance is going to be hell.
I can see the support calls now:
"I've lost word, it was there a minute ago and now it's gone"
"Why does this keep appearing when I touch the edge of the screen?"
Or more likely in 2 years time "We've bought a new PC, install XP on it like all the rest"
Someone tell me we can hide Metro, please?
Otherwise MS will have missed the point again. We use interfaces designed for finger input on our phones/tablets because it is practical not because it is the best method (which clearly it isn't) . Likewise we use a keyboard/mouse on a PC rather than touch because they are more efficient.
The download is live on dev.windows.com. Just FYI
The Metro UI in Windows 8 can be deactivated and you can have the "normal" desktop style.
Downloading now!
Not as slow as I thought, sure later when more ppl download will be slower...
Downloading.. Somehow this just doesn't seem so promising as windows 7.. haha
Yep download is up. And is super slow. Chrome tells me 8 hours left lol. A 3.6GB torrent usually takes me about an hour to download

Anyone trying Windows 8?

Kind of off topic, but I'm just curious to know if anyone's tried out the Windows 8 developer preview. I'm trying it right now, and it's honestly not that bad. Some things still need work, but it's definitely something I could get use to.

I thew it on my 4 year old cheap laptop and after figuring out how to navigate the start menu I really like how fast it is. Only problem is I can't seem to be able to install .net framework, hence phonemypc won't work (I wanted to test drive metro ui on my epic since its touchscreen optimized) I'm gonna keep it on my laptop until the beta expires but I'm sad to say that I want a windows 8 tablet waaaaay more than even an ice cream tablet.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Yeah I'm using it on a partition on my brand-new laptop. I really like it actually!
Metro UI is a bit to get used to, but I love using the touchpad multi-touch controls to navigate from panel-mode to the standard desktop, bootup is much faster, and I can share files fine between my regular Win7 partition and the Windows 8 partition.
@xopher.hunter, I had an issue with .NET 3.5, but it installed fine after a restart. YMMV...
I bought a Touchpad during the fire sale, and have yet to receive it from HP Small Business (have to wait for the last production run), but I wanna put Win8 on it when the ARM build gets out.
Im waiting for a windows 8 tablet to come out
I do NOT like the UI for desktops :/
WIndows 7 for my PC, windows 8 for tablet.
fk yeah.
Microsoft killed all of my interest in an android tablet when they revealed the metro ui windows 8. PERFECT TABLET OS (atleast based on what ive seen, it has all the right things.)

Its this 10 dollar app in the market, yes it is a remote desktop client but very well done and very simple to set up. Its a freaking life saver if you forget something on your computer.
I still haven't been able to install .net 3.5.1, I even dl'd the standalone but it still wanted to use microsoft update to install, and I rebooted it too. Oh well this is why I put this on my old ass laptop. Runs like a champ though only on 1.86ghz and 1.5gb of ram it seems ready for tablets alredy.

I personally am hating the metro ui...its to hard to navigate. It's too big of a step. To me, its clunky. People were afraid of vista because of the glossy difference from xp, this is like 100x worse.

I find it too bland. (still wonder if I can change the green background to another color...)
Idk, I agree it's too tablet-like, but I like how everything is together.
Definitely doesn't make sense for a computer though.
I feel like we're going backwards a bit since we're basing computer UI off of mobile UIs which are meant to be more compact.
Even in OS X Lion, they had the "Launchpad" feature where it looked exactly like you were on an iPad.
Why do companies think people like this?

Idk. Maybe because they think it looks better than just a plain list, but now they're more interested in eye candy than functionality. Why can't we have both.
On the other topic, I would like to try windows 8, but it's not really useful for me since I have a 1024x600 netbook, so Metro Apps don't work. I've tried the hack that makes resolution higher on Windows 7, but it looks horrible with that.
my question is the lifehacker site says you need to burn a dvd or use a thumbdrive, can I also use a SD card? (don't want to waste a DVD and have no RWs at the moment)
Also will doing this erase everything on Win 7? I dual booted Ubuntu once and it didn't but LifeHacker says something about formmating the drive

Will not erase everything as long as you boot to dvd or usb (I don't think SD cards are bootable). You don't need to format, you need to partition (which is like grouping your hard drive, with one group for windows 7 and one for windows 8)

To be honest I only installed it and adb, I haven't even got to mess with it. The newish android-tools-adb from software manager are slick it made Desktop my adb location so anything on my direct dektop is controllable with adb ( I think only tested adb devices ). Although I still have the actual sdk, I just wanted to try the software manager one.
I'm in the process now of just trying to get better and more fluent with terminal and Linux language. I was never really big on computers at all growing up but when I did use them it was always to do one task and that was on windows. So Linux really opened my eyes because if I don't need the computer to do much, why run all that bloat? I would rather install what I need vs uninstalling what I don't and risk breaking dependencies and OS.

I use Ubuntu and have had it on a separate partition for probably 8ish years now(since second year of college). I sometimes bounce to another distro to try for a while, but always come back to Ubuntu because I am used to it.
I am really thinking about looking for another debian based distro(or ubuntu with a different desktop mananger) though because I kind of loath portions of Unity and the amazon integration. I don't mind having the side bar with app icons pinned to it, thats how I keep my win7 desktop setup. I absolutely hate just about everything else though.
For those that are comfortable with windows you may want to check out Zorin OS, its a ubuntu based distro that emulates the windows desktop manager.

On my family computer I have ubuntu 12.10 w/ unity, docky and virtualized win7. Its an i7 with 8gb of ram so I don't care about it not being a light distro.
I chose ubuntu because its the most linux friendly distro and my mom, dad, and sisters use it a lot and I don't feel like being their tech guy all the time.
On my laptop I mostly use windows 7 because it really can't handle the main desktop environments (crappy processors and I've made it overheat a lot so that doesn't help the processors). I don't like how the light desktop environments look so I just use win7. All I do on it is research papers so it all works well lol

Elementary os is a nice ubuntu based distro.
The latest beta is really nice.
Its pretty lightweight too.
I had it on my laptop for a while since it looked nice and it was lightweight.
After a while my processors were at 50-60% all the time so I got rid of it.

I doubt the photos are fake, but I agree: a video showing the Mac OS X install running would be welcomed. A step-by-step description of how it was installed would also be welcomed. Several months ago, I installed Windows XP on Android using Qemu and Bochs by following this tutorial, but the install was disappointing; Windows XP ran extremely slow.

That's right. Emulation of another architechture can be really painful. So i guess it will run smoothier on x86 devices.
This is just a guess, but that way you don really need to convert x86 code to ARM or MIPS code. It could be native
Hello! I'm back! Sorry I haven't used my tablet for a long time because battery time was awful. But now with 4.3 update it seems to work fine! Also I got usb otg cable (more possibilities!) And Now there's Mavericks. So even more fun! For those who think it's fake. I'll post a video soon . So don't worry. But before a video I have to try Mavericks and couple other things. I'll keep you updated!

There is no way you can get OSX running at an acceptable speed on an ARM architecture. Emulation is really slow and OSX is quite a demanding OS. Just the bootloader and maybe a Darwin shell, sure, but actual OSX, hell no.
Yeah. I'm trying to get that to work. And I know that it's nearly impossible to install mac osx on non apple pc. And here we're talking about different cpu architecture etc. So only someone really bored would do that Well here you have me . At this moment I'm having lots of kernel panics. Maybe in 20-60years I'll make a perfect bootloader that translates code too . LOL. For now it's more like having fun than thinking seriously about this.
