are roms universal for US varient - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

Well, I am wondering if a rom that was made for Verizon work for a galaxy s3 on AT&T or T-mobile?

Nope

There are ways devs can make the ROMS universal for the GS3 for example this dev has made this ROM universal from the Tmobile thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728255

EWJet 2.3.3 vs WB 2.3.3

Ok guys, so this thread is to help those who are undecided like me on which of these two roms to use. I am looking for input from people who have experienced both of them and which one do you prefer and why. Also which one is fastest, has better battery performance, best features, looks etc. Basically what sold you to that rom.
PLEASE dont take this as some sort of competition between this to DEVS, as I am sure that both of these roms are great, and maybe it comes down to personal prference, but I will like some input from the guys that have tried them both.
Im currently using WB 008 2.3.3 and it rocks!!
no problems

best answer is test them both!
ThGo2 v0.80
Simple, reliable. And I'm pretty sure it will be the first few roms to come with custom kernel of Goro, as the dev himself is also Japan based.

Most basic root/overclocked g2

Just swapped my spring and now looking to root and overclock to about 1200mhz or less if n64oid will run smooth. What is the most basic way I can go about doing this and which is the most basic rom I should use? I don't care much about all these crazy bells and whistles. I use about 20 apps and that's it.
Any help or direction would be awesome.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Glite it super light weight, fast and is stock overclocked to 1GHz n64oid runs great on my phone. I find ram is the biggest problem when I run it but since I converted to ext4 and flashed this ROM it runs great.
What you want is the safest root method. Use the method from the Wiki:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
Use the root method from the wiki. Do all your reading before you start so you can reduce the chance that you mess something up.
After that, install the custom ROM of your choice. If you want something AOSP-like then go cm7 or one of the other stock based. Most custom ROMs allow overclocking to at least 1.2ghz.

Ya I hear cm7 thrown around a lot so that's a custom rom that a ton of people use?
I have rooted 3 phones in my lifetime, 8929 att, kaiser, motorola cliq and this will be my 4th so ill read up heavily and do this Saturday night after I get everything ready. I've heard the whole g2 root is more difficult then most because of the added security to this specific device. Thx for all the help guys.

Yea its harder than many, but definitely not super difficult. The guides are detailed and have rooted thousands of devices.
CM7 is the most popular custom ROM by far and is available on dozens of devices. For this reason there are lots of good features and bugs are rare in stable builds.

If you want speed, definitely choose a CyanogenMod-based ROM. Don't go with custom UIs like Sense or MIUI because they really slow the phone down.

I'd suggest starting with the latest CM7 stable version (7.1.0).

YOUR Preference

You have an HTC Evo Shift? You rooted it and put a custom OS on it?
Awesome.
First timer right her who wants to ask your preference, the only thing I have to have is the ability to tunnel my internet to project a free hotspot. That is available in CM7, so far I am leaning towards a nightly build... But essentially since I have not done this before, I don't know the best, I'm sure no one knows the "best"...BUT I would very much like to know your favorite considering that is my main concern

I really like Sense Roms, especially sense 3.0. I was rocking a stock, rooted rom, but got tired of HTC dragging their feet releasing the source code for the Shift. I flashed CM 7.1 stable, with Scary Ghoul 3 kernel, running at 1.5 gHz. But, if HTC already had source code for the gingerbread release, I'd still be on a sense rom.
Created a whole thread about this. Here you go.

If you like Sense then it's gotta be Supreme Sense. Real nice ROM with lots of bells and whistles and a very nice camera app.
Me personally, I prefer CM7. I want raw performance and the maximum amount of customizability and CM7 offers all that more than any other ROM.
@Vico
The thread you specified was...
[INFO] Cyanogenmod 7 optimal settings for Evo Shift 4G on SPRINT (Updated 10-7-11)
Which is not what I'm looking for, I happened to say I was looking into CM7, but would be open to another OperatingSystem all together. CM7 does good work, but honestly they are the only ones I know about. So I would be narrowminded to assume the only one I know about would be the best choice. Since alot of people on this forum have done alot to their phones their input on a recommended OS will be followed.
Well I'm sure you know it depends on your usage, and preferences. I'm a Sense kind of guy. If your looking for a sort of stock Rom with a lot of extras that's quick, than MikShifted G v1.75 is a great choice. Stable, Reliable, and Fast. If your looking for something a little more over the top that's still stable, reliable, and fast. Than Supreme Sense is it, eye candy plus.

Yeah, too bad. I used 10.1.3 I think it was for a while. Over the last month or so I've tried a few out here on the boards. The unofficial CM11 is really nice but eats my battery away. I was using one from August, then upgraded last week to the October one and it was much bugier. Right now I'm using SlimKat... I think I like CM better overall but SlimKat is really nice. I've run into a few bugs, the Menu/Home/Back/Search buttons won't light on notification. That's the one feature that seems not to work that I really miss.. But SlimKat is nice enough and gives me twice the battery life as the unofficial CM11.

Ooh, I didn't know anyone was going to do a Lollipop ROM. That's exciting, thanks! Also never heard of CyanFox, I'll have to check that out. I really hope there's a SlimPop (or whatever they call it) ROM for our phone... I'm really loving the performance and battery life on this.
Also, if anyone could help me out... what effect battery life? Is it mostly the apps and base system, or can the kernel itself be a big part of it?

To devs or anyone who has used an aosp rom(even if buggy)

Something im sure not just i but many others are wondering, how fast does the g3 actuqlly perform? Of course it may be buggy and what not but is it safe to say that it is much faster albeit having this high resolution?

What are we comparing it to? And what exactly are we comparing? Are we talking ui? Graphics performance? Also, it would be hard to compare it to aosp as there is currently no aosp rom for this device, but coming from a gs3, this phone is a huge step up

There are aosp rom out there for the G3. Also Pac-Man is running on the T-mobile version. Also from the way it sounds they are pretty damn fast.
Be looking forward to running some aosp on the LS990 hopefully soon.
Oh, ok, my bad, I was just trying to figure out what he meant, and I didn't know there were any running builds of aosp, but really, I have no complaints for the g3 as far as speed wise, I froze alot of bloat, and it's not laggy at all, ive heard that the 2 biggest things for lag are the launcher and the keyboard, and I use action launcher and swiftkey, so I froze home and the keyboard app, and this thing had never been faster

Make sure to mention the carrier you are on. The lg g3 is for international and all carriers so no one is confused. ::thumbs up::
Stock LG software isn't that great, I'm working on a speed optimised ROM, you should see it in the LG dev thread soon.
So I don't own a g3 but I do own an lg optimus l90 and have built PAC ROM for it. The camera and Bluetooth are easy. For Bluetooth make sure you have the bluedroid.cfg from stock. And for both make sure you have the dtb set up right. You should usually build both v1 and two of the dtb and combine them using dtb tool. Also on oirs the open_cis dtbs worked better

Protip: before claiming something is 'easy' go ahead and spend a little time trying to do it. There's nothing easy about the camera, at least not in comparison to previous LG devices.
For everyone else, just an FYI: there are two different wifi/bt chipsets depending on your variant.
Broadcom: T-Mobile (D851) and Sprint (LS990)
Pronto: Verizon (VS985), International (D855), AT&T (D850)
We must be sure to include what variant we are using when we report/debug wifi and bt issues because they are quite a bit different.

okay it was simple for me. the issue for those is simple. you need a different build per variant.because the camera is in the dtb so for it to change on chip sets youll neded to changed kernel and dtb so each variant will need a new build (p.s. @invisiblek i like your profile pic kupo)
