Due to a few issues I have with my Droid X some applications come up incompatible, even if they work. I was wondering if anyone has a copy of the Better Battery Stats APK I could use to install it until I upgrade to the SGS3 on the 9th? ( I'm under the assumption its a free app) if its a paid app please let me know and I'll delete this. Thanks!

Just got a new Verizon Galaxy Tab and am wondering if the DroidX multi touch keyboard can be instaled on it? I found an apk floating around but it seemed to be a 2.1 port and force closed as soon as i installed.

I think there was a thread about this at one point, and no one had much luck with it. I tried at least 4 different versions of the apk, including one that was supposed to work on 2.2 but no dice. I'm assuming someone with some skill may be able to modify it to work at some point. People suggested getting Smart Keyboard Pro from the market instead, so I gave it a shot. Costs a couple bucks, but it works amazing, and has just as good multitouch, if not better than the Droid x's.

Kool. Just downloaded the trial version and am using it now. Seems to be very similar to the Droid x.

Hello I got my Droid x back in December. Before that I had a palm pixi which I overclocked, rooted, and changed the kernels on. That was easy. I've been reading about installing roms and what not. I JUST rooted my Droid x yesterday using superoneclick. That was easy as well. I just have a couple of questions about installing custom roms. Do you HAVE to use bootstrap recovery? Can you install a custom rom without using a computer? Also, what are the "must have" apps on a rooted Droid x?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
You can do it without a computer, I did. Apps I have include: advanced task killer, anti virus, bootstrap, astro, rock player, quadrant standard, titanium and z 4 root. Those are must haves for me. I would recommend bootstrap, titanium backup, and liberty 1.5 rom and liberty toolbox. I've had a droid x 6 days. I used z 4 root though. If you want to do what I did you need to back up with titanium before flashing liberty. There's a thread around here about it.

Bootstrap in my opinion is the easiest way for backups, installing themes/ROMs. I'm not sure what you mean about installing a custom ROM without using a computer... If you can explain that a little more, I can help you out.
If you just started, check out my guide:

Well from what I have read you have to use a computer to put the rom on your SD card, or am I completely wrong on that one?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I don't use a computer i just download the rom when I'm on wifi and it goes into the 'download' folder on my sd card and then i use astro file manager to move it if i need to
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
After rooting your DX one of the "must have" apps would be DX bootstrapper. It is very important to make a backup of your phone after rooting for future update purposes and also something to fall back on if need be. You do not need a computer for that or flashing custom roms/themes, it can all be done directly from your phone. Although it is a good idea to use a computer and transfer your backups or anything else important too you just in case of SD card damage/failure.

Speaking of saving battery... what are your opinions on the extended battery for the DX? Is it worth the money? I found the battery and cover on amazon.com for 43.00. Not sure if I want to spend the money yet..

Me personally, I have a car charger and one at the house, and a few extra blackberry chargers that fit, and I like otter box defender cases that I would have to mod to make an extended battery fit, so I haven't ever really considered it. I did get the defender before I saw the ballistic case, which I almost wish I had got instead now.

I bought the Motorola 1880 mAh battery on eBay for $10 + $2 for shipping and the Motorola extended battery cover on Amazon for $10 + $4 for shipping. The 2 fit well in my OtterBox Defender Series case. Also, I don't recommend task killers or anti-virus apps with Android. There are plenty threads that will tell you why.

Like whoa, looks nice. Explains why my phone was showing the GPS icon this morning even though I had no apps open, lol. Sucks though because it auto updated my Skype from VZW.
Anyone know how I can get that out of My Apps since I use the real Skype app? Its irritating to always see it needed an update even though my other Skype app is up to date.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
If you're rooted you can move the Skype apk to another directory, rename it, or freeze it.
Titanium backup pro (if you are rooted, you should have this app) can freeze, remove, rename bloat.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
I second Titanium Pro if rooted, super simple.
For some reason with the new market I can't buy apparently that cost $$
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Anyone else notice that they can only DL or update 1 app at a time on wifi and 3g. In the past i could have multiple downloads going instead of them being queued. Strange, guess it keeps the market more stable.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Yeah, I noticed that
DROID X running liberty GB V.8
Anyone else notice that no app screenshots appear? I just get an error on the screenshots and the Retry button does nothing.
Can't sleep tonight so just researching apps this morning. Have you guys or gals used either? Do you recommend one over the other?
BatteryGuru is officially made by Qualcomm so you would expect it to be pretty key to phone optimisation. Also it didn't require root.
Greenify had received many great reviews and the author is constantly updating which is good. Requires root however.
Thanks!

Greenify here and happy
I'm running battery guru and it works quite well, it'll take about 5 days to give you some savings, but it works. I'm way more impressed then I ever though I'd be...

No real reason to be scared to root any more. We have the stock images in case you soft brick, boot loop, etc. I was worried to, but it was an extremely simple and quick root process. You just plug in the phone and your rooted after a couple mouse clicks
Also, I recommend freezing the ota applications in TiBu. Never know when at&t may send an OTA that could patch the boot loader exploit. Better be safe than sorry with this one.
Sorry to drag the thread off topic. Just thought I would throw in my $.02 after your comment on rooting. Best of luck

How does that greenify app work? Say you select all your apps, and then it hibernates them does it wake up when needed or if you get a message or notification?
The app specifically says not to enable apps that have certain notifications such as SMS and whatnot, so I would make sure that you don't do it to apps that you need to be notified.

They will wake up when you open them, then hibernate when you close them. Basically if you use it for all apps expect to not mulitask at all (looking at messages, wont recieve phone calls; looking at Internet, wont recieve SMS)
If you have to use either one you don't know how to save your battery. Get better battery stats and learn what is causing your battery drain. These apps only use battery.

Greenify uses a lot less battery then tons of bad apps running. I like using Facebook app but couldn't careless about the notifications and such. Yes I coukd go in and stop them but not all apps let me (cnet for example) so having a single place to hibernate the apps I dont want running in the background is nice.
Could someone be kind enough to point me in the right direction. I've searched but can't seem to find the basic info. I have very little background in flashing and such.
I rooted my thunderbolt years ago with little guidance and than bought a rooted bionic. But now I'm lost with all the terms. Looking for somewhere that will explain what everything means so I can then choose what os to flash, and how to do it in recovery.
Thank you,
David

Right now there isn't a whole lot you can do until the devs port custom roms to our phone. They didn't know it was going to be possible to unlock our bootloader or root(after kitkat update) , and therefore didn't put much effort into later versions. At most, you can install the latest CWM and backup your current rom in preparation for if you decide to install custom roms. That's basically where I am right now.
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You can freeze or remove the bloatware. Just make a backup first.

There is a list of the verified bloatware you can remove with titanium backup without breaking the phone. Just search "Razr HD bloatware" in the forum

By the looks of it, I should stay with stick KK for now? I have froze a few apps with titanium but looking for something to improve my battery. I'm going through battery in about 5 hours. I was getting 10-12 on JB. Still looking for a way to go back to JB.

Yes stick with KK for now. That's surprising that your battery is draining so fast now. Can you go to your battery usage and see what is sucking up most of your juice? I have heard others state that it took a few days for their phone to settle in after the upgrade (I personally think people were so excited for the new OS that they were just using their phone a lot more than they were before .) I know mine has been draining faster because I've been doing so many things with it since the update. I highly recommend the app "Greenify" since you are rooted. It will automatically hibernate any non-necessary background apps that suck up ram, battery, and data.

Thank a lot for the info. This motocare is sucking up a lot of battery. Don't remember seeing it before. I'm searching now to see what it is and if I should freeze it or hibernate it. Just downloaded greenify and it seems like a great app. Thanks again for your input!!

Sure thing. When its all good and working...it should appear something like this
Agree on greenify. It is an truly awesome app for improving battery life! Better battery stats with root use enabled for checking wakelocks also. I had the same experience with motorcare. Major batterydrainer. Being able to properly disable apps, is worth rooting alone.
