Hi,
not sure if this is the best place for this question, if not please redirect me.
MS have recently introduced the requirement of a passcode when pairing BT devices. Can this be disabled in any way.
Thanks
Jake
Try 2003 or 0000
The pairing code is requested by the other device, so look in the manual of this. A usual simple code is 0000 for many devices.
hi thanks for your replies.
I've perhaps been a tad vague, let me add some more info.
PREVIOUSLY....
when adding a Zebra QL220plus via bluetooth to a Motorola Symbol MC5590 with Windows Mobile 6.* the requirement to enter a PASSCODE never occurred...ever
Now when using
Zebra QL 220plus (as above) via BT to a MC55A0 with Windows Mobile 6.5 the requirment to enter a PASSCODE keeps coming up. Even though authentication on the Zebra printer is disabled
I just cannot figure out whether it's the OS or the mobile unit.
This problem has been passed down to me to resolve even though I was not previously responsible for the setup. So if I come across as inept at any point you now know why
There could be an option on the device like "require secure connection" or alike - remove that. You find it when setting up the outgoing serial link (or probably other service) towards a certain device. Usually the passcode for pairing indicates such a secure connection afaik. It is then still a matter of the device if such non secure connections would mutually be allowed. Good luck...

Hi Tobbbie,
I'm guessing when you refer to 'device' you are talking about the printer. I can confirm that the Bluetooth settings on the printer are as:
Authentication = off
Encryption = off
there are no other options available from the printers main display that would have anything to do with security.
As to the MC55A Handheld I cannot find anything to disable with regards to authentication/encryption/passcodes etc. I did come across something about registry editing but I would really like to avoid that option if at all possible; although if that turns out to be my ONLY option.....
Thanks
Jake
No, with device I meant the handheld. So it seems you have no choice but to contact the handheld vendor. Mind that the handheld has to support the printer profile (BPP, I think) to succesfully connect to the printer via BT.
I cannot give any further advice here, sorry + good luck

Guys,
As I'm reading the threads I see over and over "what is this value", "please upload this file", etc. Is there a remote client like PCanywhere, telnet, Timbuk2 that would allow poepl on XDA to give up control of there machines for guys like itsme or others who have developed tools without even touching a device.
Any way to do this over the internet with home routers and everything else in the way?
We could do this by going PC-PC with timbuktu and then controlling active sync to load or pull files. How could you find the IP address through the router? With ipconfig -all all I get is my router assigned IP with no indication of how to access the machine from the internet.
Anyone know a way to do this?
What´s wrong with "Pocket controller"?
There is no other program that has it´s superb features.
You can completely remote controll your XDA/XDAII/XDAIII.
If you are asking to remote controll an xda thru the internet, id say forget
about it. It´s to complicated and to bulky to use. And by the way, what is it supposed to be used for?
If you want to remotely control your computer with your XDA thru the internet, there is good software for this already.
My wife had mapopillis installed on her phone and could not get it up and going or get the GPS to show her position: I would like to have a program icon that she can click on which would (automatically) connect to the internet, display an IP address of her connection and activate remote control. I would then use the IP that she gives me to log onto her phone and setup and test her Mapopillis and GPS.
All I get from her is "I don't know, it just doesn't work" and I can't debug much with this response.
What would be nicer is to have the IP address automatically SMS'd to my phone when my number was preprogramed in. This way her required actions would be less. She just wants me to make the thing work.
here's another vote for Pocket Controller.
it truely is a wonderous utility packed with cool features
no need for anything else !
I just bought 32 HTC Wizards (Qtek 9100) for my company, now i'm looking for some software for administration of the PPC over GPRS.
Is anyone familiar with such software?
No one?
what kind of administration software are you looking for?
What kind of administration tasks were you thinking of doing over GPRS???
PocketPuTTY for SSH1/SSH2/TELNET access to linux/windows based systems.. Should work over GPRS, although I have never tried it.
For Windows admin I would probably use VNC, the clients I've tried are, "z2 remote 2 pc" and "realVNC" .. I find the first better due to its zooming function, but I am totally unsure if it works over GPRS, I'm pretty sure it has an option to connect via GPRS so you might be lucky !
There is also Terminal Services which comes installed on your PPC anyway
hope that helps somewhat..
I'm looking for something like VNC, but wasn't able to find any were the server side, would run on PPC. And what I know of, the z2 Remote2PC can't run as a server on PPC. Or just remote configuration. the gprs is a must, becourse the ppc's are in motion all the time, and always connected.
Ah I see what you require now, you want to remotely connect TOO the PPC's not from them.. Well, there is software that allows you to do this, it is unlikely it will work how you wish. GPRS provides the following services..
* Point-to-point (PTP) service: internetworking with the Internet (IP protocols) and X.25 networks.
* Point-to-multipoint (PT2MP) service: point-to-multipoint multicast and point-to-multipoint group calls.
* Short Message Service (SMS): bearer for SMS.
As far as I can tell PtP is used for Internet connectivity, but as far as dialing INTO that I would doubt it to be possible, even if the devices had constant WIFI access it would be pretty hard based on the number of devices that would need to be contacted. Although these are simply assumptions.
I want to make a WiFi connection on my school. But I have to make some setting changes. I have the HTC Trinity with WM6.
I have to satisfy to these settings:
- Wlan network name: tue
- Security mode: 802.1x with dynamic WEP keys
- Authentication protocol: PEAP with MSCHAPv2
- Root certificaat: GTE Cybertrust Global Root
Where do I make these changes?
On your's school router or wifi access point in your school
but sadly I have to make these changes on my pda
According to school these are the settings specially made for smartphones/pda

If it is set on your's router in school, then your PDA or smartphone will see these settings automatically
Otherwise look in start-settings(instellingen)-connections(verbindingen)-wi-fi, there you can add new network connection and apply these settings
But that's the problem.. I can't apply these settings.
When I configure Netwerk Authentication I'll come till "Use IEEE 802.x network acces control"
When I select this and choose for PEAP and I want to change the Properties I get this message:
Warning
Cannot log on to the wireless network. This network requires a personal certificate to positively identify you

Where can I make and/or change this personal certification?
been having the same message, anyone knows where to find the certificate?
Hi,
So,
1. You want to connect wirelessly to your School's network, right? .......and that
2. The network settings that you stated in your opening post were given to you by your School Network Administrator, right? ......finally, that
3. Your School Network Administrator had indeed, ACTUALLY given authority to your device (HTC Trinity) in the Access Control List to access the school's network, right?
In that case, he (the School Network Administrator) MUST have assigned an IP Address to your device (or entered its MAC address and configured it as such, inside the router/wireless access point.
Did you make sure that he did actually do so? Ask him to confirm this for you. I'm saying this because if he (the School Network Administrator) hadn't configured your device to have access to your school's network, you'll be wasting your time trying to access it, 'cos as you know, it is a secure network hence, it can not identify your device.
The only way that your device could be identified to access the school's network (never mind the settings provided in your opening post), is only, and only if, it had been configured in the ACL - Access Control List within the router, otherwise every Tom, **** and Harry would simply access the school's network, willy-nilly and wreak all sorts of havoc. See what I mean?
If indeed, he (the School Network Administrator) had given you access to the school's network, just ask him or her to give you the IP Address that he assigned to your device and then enter it in the Wi-Fi configuration of your network in Trinity, as you had been doing and everything should work fine - no more headaches!!
BOTTOM LINE:
If there is no entry for your device in the Access Control List of the school's router/wireless access point, you've got no chance 'cos your device would be refused access at all times because the router/wireless access point does NOT recognise it.
You ask him (the School Network Administrator) to give access to your device - either by using it's MAC address or IP Address), then you'll be laughing 'cos then you'll be able to have access, wirelessly.
I do hope that this gives you pointers to help solve your problem 'cos that's the only solution that I can offer.

Sorry to bring alive an old post, but I have been receiving the exact same message requiring a "personal certificate." What I don't understand is that the network prompts me for my username/password - each device is not set up individually. For example, I can take my laptop to school and connect to the network as long as I have my username and password. What is the difference between XP and WM6 in this respect? Why can't I just enter my user/pass on my Wing and connect just like I would with a laptop?

This has bugged me for a long time with Windows Mobile 5/6 & 802.1x with PEAP (WEP & WPA/WPA2). You should in theory be able to just use MSCHAPv2 and a Username/Password to authenticate yourself but there seems to be no way of turning off the client checking the servers validity - i.e. having a valid & trusted certificate (you can disable this checking with Windows XP's 802.1x supplicant). So all you should need is the servers public certificate installed on your device.
When I was testing this a while ago I had some sucess but the 'personal certificate' message was a problem. In the end I just enrolled the device with the domains CA and have a personal certificate installed (as well as the CA's certificate which gets installed at the same time).
Enrolling for certificates is much easier now with Windows Mobile 6 and ActiveSync 4.5 since you can enroll the device from ActiveSync on the host PC.

Interesting, Andy,
I haven't yet had the chance to test this change yet, but a few searches has turned up a registry key that we can add -
(quoted from somewhere on the internet)
"The only thing you have to do is to add a DWORD Regestry Entry under HKEY_LOCAL_MAICHNE-->Comm-->EAP-->Extension-->25
Name:"ValidateServerCert"
Value: 1 to activate Validation, 0 to turn it off"
Have you tried making this change before just registering a certificate? If it doesn't work, do you remember the basic steps for retrieving a certificate from a computer via activesync? If I do transfer a certificate from a laptop, do I need to register the device with the administrator? It seems that everyone from the IT department I've talkd to has no idea what they're talking about.
can anyone give me a step by step guide on how to configure the remote desktop? btw i am using windows 7
On the Phone in Remote desktop mobile :-
In the box Computer put your pc's IP address
In the box User put the pc's users registered name (not the computers name) ie the name you use when you log on to your pc guest user etc.
In the box password put in your pc login password
In the box Domain put the full computer name found under my computer properties.
On your pc under my computer properties - remote - tick allow remote access
You should be ok to go - make sure your phone has a data/internet setting enabled and is active.

Oh and don't forget to adjust your firewall settings to allow your HD access

thank you very much, it funny how you give the simplest instructions and it all works in one go and the rest are so complicated etc haha thanks man
ah there always has to be a problem, 1) i cant see the keyboard even witout full screen. 2) when i try to login i get an error "Logon failure: user account restriction. Possible reasons are blank passwords not allowed. Logon hour restrictions, or a policy restriction has been enforced" HELP!!
I had the keyboard problem too.
I use finger keyboard and in the display option of Remote Desktop I ticked "Fit to remote desktop" Be careful it allows you to tick the other box as well.
Also colours = High Color.
As to the other messages it must be a Windows 7 issue of more parameters having to be entered. Also I log off on my pc before I connect.
Hope this helps

Hi all,
I have bought HD2 yesterday and today when I try to connect to wifi of my office it asks me to "the network requires a personal certificate to identify you", while I have done some research and followed below threads, but there seems to be no clear solution. Please can somebody help with a patch to disable network certificate check.
Thanks

I have been struggeling with this also for quite a while.
The suggestion you mention is probably not worth while investigating.
The certificate is required by the access point so you should change it there is you do not want to cahnge the phone.
My solution was the following.
The HD2 comes with a base set of certificates and our corporate network requires one that is not in there.
I managed to find out which certificate I needed and was able to Google it.
Then just copy it to the phone, run the cert file and you're done!

You cannot patch your device to disable this.
It is a requirement of YOUR network.
You need to find out which base certificate it is you need and then install to your phone.
Hi. Sorry to bring up an oldie, but I'm having this issue as well with the exception that my network doesn't require a certificate. I've confirmed this with my IT department. Any ideas as to how this can be disabled? It only seems to happen when I connect my phone to my PC (which is only done to install software, not sync with exchange; that's done wirelessly).

The only thing you have to do is to add a DWORD Regestry Entry under HKEY_LOCAL_MAICHNE-->Comm-->EAP-->Extension-->25
Name:"ValidateServerCert"
Value: 1 to activate Validation, 0 to turn it off"
I have personally tried this and works like a charm, please let me know if doesn't
Greetings from India
PS: remember to reboot your device once you have added the registry

Nice!!!! Thanks for the information . I will give this a try as my work wireless network presents the same problem.
It may be tied into the following info I found out there on the web, problem as described by someone else with the same or similar issue:
"the wireless controller was sending out EAP-Identity-Request packet very quickly (1 per second), so the time I typed my pass on the PDA, it has already received 5+ EAP-Requests and when I pressed OK, it was sending my Identity with Request-ID=1 and was rejected because the controller was already expecting a greater Request-Id.
I adjusted the timeout and voilà !!! Here is the command line for Cisco Wireless Controller 4402 (the value was set to 1s !) :
"
This info relates to WM EAP and Cisco's implementation of EAP.
I will try the regedit and see if this fixes things for me.
i tried doing this by entering a dword via regedit but i am still facing the same issue...please help
