Home Button bug - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

I upgraded to ICS through Kies and after some time of usage the home button won't exit an app unless I press again a second rime.
At first I thought I might had not pushing it hard enough but this is not the case and it happens with every app.
I haven't installed any new apps besides the ones I've always used without this problem.
My phone is not rooted and I'm using the default touchwiz launcher. No mods of any short.
Anyone else who has come across this problem?

I have the same issue, on stock 4.0.3 rooted, using Nova launcher.

It is more apparent right after the device wakes up. It seems like it's struggling to load fast enough core OS elements/parameters or user input.
It's a joke.
They need to prioritize certain user commands, and suspending or exiting an app is way more important than weather update for example...

Problems with every rom

I've tried many different roms such as jvo, jvh, jvp and jvq. I've tried darkys, juwes, gingerreal , f1, insanity and miui but they all have these problems after the phone has been 'up' for over a day. When I exit a game using home or back my launcher restarts.

The same game and the same launcher always : maybe are not compatible.

You are using tw launcher ? If not, you should check your task killer program. Maybe you got the option "stAy in ram". If yes, choose it

I havent tried the stuff in this thread but it is interesting, and on the second page, there is a posted .apk that apparently solves it..
Like saphirrot said, if the launcher has a 'stay in mem' option, check it. I've done that with Launcher Pro and the launcher restart happens far far less.
It's just android freeing up ram for the game. It's a pain in the ass but better than not being able to run a game because of low memory.

I use super manager or astro manager. They have app managers and allow you to install .apk files. Super manager is great if you have root access as you can uninstall bloatware apps like aldiko, layar etc. Make sure to backup app just in case anything goes wrong.

I use AppInstaller. Very simple.
Thanks guys I installed the apk and my launcher no longer restarts but apps still close even when I go off them using the home button so I can return to them in a minute and be where I left it. Is there any apk for this as it is frustrating when you go off an app for a minute only to find it's closed when u go back on it.

Actually the apk hasn't worked. Launcher is still rebooting when I go back to the home screen.

Nothing is wrong. It's running out of memory. Android shall release background tasks if foreground tasks need the memory. Since Gingerbread, you can no longer force most things to stay in memory so those features are mostly useless these days. Should have kept to one ROM and asked your question in its thread. Too many things to suggest to tune it properly really. Uninstalling system apps you don't use and trying different kernels are your last options.

This is completely unacceptable then, you can't even multitask. And after the phone has been 'up' for over 12 hours you can't even keep the dialer in memory! There must be a way around this. A smartphone should not take over 3 seconds to open the dialer.

I have never seen this problem before, and since it so several I have to assume that if other people had it, they would have posted about it.
That means that it is either due to a problem with your hardware, or due to something you are installing/configuring. I would do a full factory default then add apps back very slowly, one by one, doing some basic testing in between. That way you may be able to isolate the problem.
If it still happens right after the factory reset, take the phone to a service center.

I have seen people talk about it but the answers are since gingerbread apps get closed because of memory meaning that the dialer doesn't even stay in memory after the phone has been booted.for a while.

An interesting development on the laggy app drawer issue

I know I'm not the only one with the problem of the laggy app drawer. When you first open it, it's perfectly smooth. Then, if you leave it alone for a second and use it again, it's extremely slow. It happens on any Acer-based rom, including unrooted stock.
Well, here's an interesting fact: This only happens with a static wallpaper. The issue goes away with a live wallpaper.
Why is this happening? Is it a problem with the launcher or the rom?

Wow, that is interesting.
I have noticed that some people experience this issue, and some of them don't. My app drawer does get slow and laggy, but its more just a bit choppy than anything else. It doesn't really bother me so I never worried about it too much.
To be honest, I hadn't noticed that either. However, based on your description, it sounds like the live wallpaper prevents the cpu governor from underclocking (by virtue of the fact that it's more cpu-intensive, thus requiring the cpu to operate at a higher clock), thus preventing initial lag. Just hazarding a guess, though.
finally a thread about this. Here's what I know. I don't think its the CPU scaling because I've tried to fix this. It still happens even when I force it to 1.4 ghz+ the only rom without this problem is virtuous xoom. And it doenst seem to be the launcher. I've tried swapping them around
stock rooted 3.2 and cant make it happan, using reg walpapper. Did not see on previous versions.
I have seen this on other 3.2 tablets... I assume its a gpu thing or just a bug in 3.2

Sounds like the problem is on Acer's end. Email time!
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
looks like it is hc 3.2 issue - i wasn't experiencing this on hc 3.1 roms
i was trying as well find out the reason...
only thing what i found out - when the lag is there - killing any of running apss will kill the lag for some seconds as well and the app drawer become smooth again.
tested with quick system info pro.
Its the otherway round for me.......the app drawer lags a lot when i use live wallpaper and lags a little less when i use a static wallpaper....i think it depends on the kind of (live or static) wallpaper used on the device.....

It just always lags for me, but as I said earlier, it isn't enough to piss me off or anything. It's only a slight lag.
Everytime I see lag I just tell myself ics will be open source and one of our fine devs will make this awesome

Curious
I dont have a app drawer that lags but out of curiosity would someone with a laggy app drawer plug in a mouse to their unit and scroll the app drawer using that mouse. See if it makes a difference.
app draw lag
Could you explain app draw lag for me please?

Icons disappeare after I close an app

Hey guys
I have this problem with my x10 whenever I open an app or a game and close it it goes back to main screen and the apps icons and Widgets disappear for a second and comes back slowly
Anyone has a soulution or ideas
Sent from my X10i using xda premium
The x10's problem is the RAM. If you use a lot of apps and widgets at the same time it will run out of memory and close the homescreen to free ram. When you go back from an app to the homescreen, android has to reload it, that's what you see, when the applications redraw. If you want to solve this problem, rooting your device would be my advice for you, cause this gives you many possibilities to solve such issues
Sent from my R800i using XDA
Its a redraw of the screen you can easily fix that by tweaking the build.prop

Therefore root access would be a good choice it's one line he has to add, for stopping the redraws

Launcher lock up...anyone else?

I run tsf shell and next launcher and adw ex 99 percent of the time though so far I've only run tsf and next on my g2. I have experienced the exact same issue while running both launchers. I'm rooted and have over 30 apps frozen including the stock launcher.
I'm having an issue where after running my phone for awhile my launcher will lock up and refuse to do anything, or it will run so slow that it's impossible to use. The strange thing is I can still drag the notification window down and go into settings and do whatever in there and everything functions fine and is smooth, so I know there's some issue with the launcher. A reboot fixes it for awhile but it has come back several times. Another weird thing to note is the launcher isn't force closing. It will continue to run and never force close.
This thread isn't about me having a buggy phone and need to return it (though anything is possible) but it's about me thinking I have caused this issue myself by freezing something I shouldn't and now I'm getting this. At first I thought it was tsf shell so I downloaded next and froze tsf and it happened on next so I know it's not the launcher itself. Based on my thinking that it's something I froze I have since defrosted the LG home app and after a couple hours have yet to have the issue. But I'll keep this thread posted on what happens.
If someone else has had this and fixed it please post...if you are having it and didn't know what to do and you froze LG home try defrosting it and post your results. I know from experience that sometimes these phones on the stock roms can bug out when you freeze certain stock apps so I'm trying to troubleshoot. Thanks.

Sounds like you froze the stock launcher and the phone bugged out. Just leave the stock launcher unfroze.. No telling how many lg system enhancements depend on it.
As for me, I never freeze apps. I just remove them using root explorer. Usually isn't hard to find out what apps are safe or unsafe to remove.
Sent from my LG-D801 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I also think it's a UI function that uses the launcher. I have not used a shell and a launcher together before but I'll try it later w/out freezing. The LG launcher.

I also find using the stock home switcher causes less problems.

Arghhhh!Nova launcher

8 out of 10 times when I press my home button to come out of any app I'm in, it shows me my recent apps,I clear cache, and it's fine, but after a short time it does it again, it's infuriating, it's like I'm keeping finger on the home button to get recent apps up, but I'm not anyone else had this? Unrooted,
Thanks in advance.

I have this problem from time to time also. After long pressing the home button and clearing app history it is fine for about half a day, then it happens again.
My phone is n900 int, kitkat, rooted with Nova Prime.
not a big deal, still much better than the stock launcher, but would be good to get resolved.

Uninstall and re-install Nova launcher. This app is very good that i paid $4 for Prime version. Try re-installing okay? Cheers!
Hi,I did that a few weeks ago, I'm not doing that all again.
I'm not saying, or bad mouthing nova launcher in any way, it's the best launcher ever! Just so annoying to have this at the moment.

hi all ,
After reading above posts ,( i have nova prime running on n9005...stock rom, not rooted )
i "tested " what was echoed above ( pressing home button whilst in app brings up "recent apps " )
i found that a.."long " press ( unknownly ?? or holding it for to" long" brings up recent apps, yes )
but just a brief tap ( tap and let go ) on home button, Nova works 100%
This was my experience and opinion that it is suppose to work like this ?
( long press for too long ..unknownly ?
brings up "recent apps " if you are in another app and just a" brief tap" takes you straight out ?
to home page and another" brief tap" takes you to your main desktop home screen ..correct ? )

Tried Apex? Some people like it more , maybe you might. Cheers!
Yes I've used apex, but wouldn't leave nova, it's the best, that's why this is so frustrating!
It's nothing to do with the settings, because clearing the cache or restarting the phone fixed it, just hope we get 4.4 kit Kat,(any day now BTU, U.K.)
Or Nova gets a update

I use Nova a few years now, on different devices. It is still one of the best launchers. The issue you have I never had on my Note 3.
HoloHD has the same settings as Nova and is pretty much based the same (can tweak a little more though) - give that a whirl and see - I know Nova is the best (use it myself) but least it'll short term solve your issue.
I've used Nova for a few years on a several devices and haven't seen this. I'm curious, have you tried changing your home button action in Nova to "none". Try that and see what happens. Also if you switch back to touchwiz does home button pull recent apps as well?
Oh my god!
Oh my god!
Oh my god!
I am officially an idiot
