My wifes phone constantly shuts off running on battery power. If it is plugged in, it is fine. The battery will show 90% and it still dies. I have tested this battery in other vibrants and it's fine. I'm gonna try calibration but, this doesn't exactly seem like just a calibration issue to me. Any other suggestions? Thanks

for some reason i had the same issue on the previous vibrant i had.. when i flashed ics passion it was doing the same thing i though it wouldve been a software issue but i figured out that SetCPU was in fact cause the random reboot same way like yours plugged in perfectly fine all of a sudden the phone would shut down idk i hope i helped

maybe try cleaning the area where the battery connects on the backside of the phone. Could be a connection issue caused by dirt or something. Use a very small amount of isopropyl alcohol on a Q-tip.

Thanks everyone. I was using ICS Passion with no overclocking. I switched to the CM9 nightly and it hasn't happened since. It's still weird because the phone was on Passion for months. I even nandroided back to a fresh Passion install and it still happened.

Hello. First of all, this is my first post on these forums and if anything is wrong with my post please tell me.
OK. So I have a stock kernal, stock rom rooted Epic. After using it for a while the battery gets to around 100°f and it feels really hot. Nothing out of the ordianary is running (checked using spare parts) and about twice this month my phone has shut off due to overheating. If anyone has had similar issues or a fix, I would appreciate your comment.
Thanks.

1st of all your post is fine. If a forum thrashed every 1st post, that forum wouldn't last long.
Do you have another battery to try?
Yes. I will test my spare out for today and check the temps.

It might be the kernal....my phone never shut off cuz of overheating, but it did get hot a lot even if I want doing anything on it. That problem wentaway when I flashed different kernals. Try flashing the mixup kernal and see if it still persists? That was the first kernal I tried and it went away, but idk if it'd still have the same efect considering when I did it, there was a no-voodoo and voodoo kernal version

I actually noticed decreasing my screen brightness keeps the battery heat 10+ degrees lower. It may not be true but I seem to notice touchwiz uses way more battery and makes it hotter. Keep posting fixes to the community!

I also will not flash any kernal because I always get my updates the night of OTA and I don't want to deal with flashing.

Same as my Epic get hot time to time when I charge it. Sometimes it charge just fine and fast. Sometimes it charge take longer than other and get real hot on the back of epic. It just hit 103 temp today. I do have extra battery and it act same problem. Is there some kind of firmware doesn't response to charging well? I was thinking going back to sprint and have them look at it.
Any ideas and suggestion?
Thanks in advance.
My peeve... kernel, people, kernel!

Mmm when I plug in for charging, and if it get hot, I unplug and wait for 15 seconds, then plug again. After that, it doesn't get hot and charging much faster.

I have all the stock stuff running and doing certain things (usually downloading will do it) makes it VERY hot to the touch. My Hero did this, but I had it running a custom ROM from almost day 1, so if you are worried that it is a custom ROM/Kernel doing this, mine definitely feels verrrry hot, although I haven't gotten the battery temp tester or anything, figure it shouldn't overheat since I rooted it but haven't changed anything else.
My wife and i both have MT4G phones. While mine works perfectly fine, My wife's is having issues that I can figure out.
First, let's say that she 76% left on her battery, the phone will just power off. But when the phone is restarted, the battery will be at something like 8-20%. Now I thought her battery was bad so I swapped her battery for my battery to see if i needed to buy a new battery.
With her battery in my phone there were no issues with my phone and conversely, her phone with my battery and it does the same thing.
Anyone else have this issue?
she probably has a rougue app. One that's juicing the living **** out of that battery. Look through her apps and see if any of them run while device screen is off. Its probably an app thats syncing constantly.
You can check these by going to settings/about phone/ battery/battery use. There's you'll see the apps that are running and which take alot of juice out of the battery.
You can also reduce sync for anything by going to settings/account and sync. Thee you can change sync intervals or stop anything from syncing at all.

Uninstall suspected apps til you find the culprit also.

This is common with mine, it does it while charging. Its not a rouge app. Cause ive tried it and cannot find any app that is running it unless its shadowed. I dunno but it happen a few times already. I use cm7. Now it can also be related to emmc chip. Kinda curious only a few people have these issuses. Wouldnt it be more wide spread and more people have problems with it, if its an app?

I would say to try and do a factory reset.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
That would happen to me if I wiped battery stats in recovery.
And on some Rome.usually full wipe and reflash solved it.
Haven't wiped battery stats in a long time, and I haven't had that issue since.

randomly when I play little empire, my phone will suddenly die.then when I turn it on it says I have no battery left. sometimes if I reboot it'll say I have around 20 to 30 percent. this happens even after I tried battery calibration (the app and in cwm) and even if I fully charge my phone. I'm on tdjs Kang with stock kernel on darkside gov

I have to comment cause im having the same problems. But instead playing games, mine will just die. It happen now btw, it was on charge all night woke up and seen that there was no charge on the battery, i unpluged it and now it wont charge and my orange led just flashes when i plug it into a charger. In order to get out of it last time i used a walmart charger. Took out the battery pluged it in, took it out over and over and different ways. I was about to bash it. Well then out of the blue it started to charge again and turn on with absolutly no charge but did show it started to charge again. It only happens with cm7, cause thats only what i use the most. So i dunno whats the deal is im tempted to take it to tmobile store and see if they can give me a replacement battery and to see if its the battery itself. So hell i dont know what the heck its doing but i need it for my job cause im a truck driver and i depend on it to get loads and what not. It doesnt power up,doesnt boot into recovery, but does turn on when i hold the volume button and power button in the vibrate unknown mode and orange led flashes. I know i didnt brick it because ive been in this situation before and works after i did the special pattern to get it working again. The pattern is unknown cause it all depends so dont ask it was a euthastic comment. so hell buddy me and you are in the same boat until then

Edit** ok i managed to get it turned on again, pulled battery, sim, sdcard. Put it on charge then waited a few minutes, then put battery in it and then plugged it back in. It worked, im going to try to post a screenshot of the battery usage. I got to let the battery charge up some, so i can put everything back in it. I dunno it may be related to the emmc chip.

I'm still having huge battery issues no matter the ROM and kernel I use...
I have tried looking at battery apps that determine what's sucking up the battery but half the time it just says screen or WiFi. So it got me thinking, is it WiFi? I leave WiFi on, which was never and issue like a month ago or ever on my previous androids...but now all the sudden it seems to be the cause? I woke up to find my phone at 50% from 100 within 5 hours...of no use just WiFi turned on and set to only stay on when plugged in...so I could really use some help guys...

Simple solution - turn Wi-Fi off and see if it fixes the battery issue. Possible it is but to draw 50% that quick you'd have to be far away from the Wireless AP. In most cases that's very unlikely.

ya look at that.....but when you have small charges in between that dosent fully charge you.... you can make it run for ever...... the timer dosent reset untill you hit full charge. i agree with garwynn but ide also check your battery for swelling. ive had my wifi on all day (didnt realize it) and ive not had but mabey a 15% drain from it (5h28m to be exact).

i hope some of you have experienced this. i'm on carbon rom right now. sometimes when i'm in the middle of an app, it's just turn off and when i plug it in and turn it on the battery is at 0%. i've done a factory reset.
I have never had that happen before. Does your battery meter move? Like does it say sit at 50% for ages then all of a sudden your phone turns off.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
no, but it does happen around 50% from my experience.

Try out another ROM to see whether the battery drain still happens. If no, then it's the ROM's kernel.
Yeah I would try another rom or hell even stock. Maybe your battery is defective if a new rom doesn't help
