S Voice - Reminders - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

I was hoping that S Voice would support location based reminders. Something like "Remind me to call Mom when I get home" where it would pop a message up on my phone when I got home. But it appears that the reminders are justs tasks set to a certain day.
I also tried "Remind me to call home in an hour" and it set a task to "Call home in an hour" on June 27th.
Is there a way to get this to work?
Thanks.

Ooh that's a nice idea. Sounds too complicated for S voice to do though. Maybe 3rd party app in the future.

Need to wait a little longer, Google now is coming..

Try this again. (Maybe try minutes instead of hours or specify one hour instead of "an" hour. Last night I was testing S Voice and set a reminder to drink beer in 5 minutes. It worked as I thought it would.
I would test again now, but I'm in a meeting

Google Now has that
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S III using Tapatalk.

I have used it time set reminders at a specific time and so far it has worked flawlessly. Fits my needs perfectly.

Reminder, Drink Beer, Five mins.
Task: Remind India 5 mins.
I talk funny but the memo worked.

You guys are right, it was the way I asked it.
The format follows:
Reminder, Subject, Time
So I should have said:
"Reminder call home one hour"
Location based reminders would be nice as well but as people have stated it will come with Google Now.
Thanks all.

DL30 and Facebook Notifications

Has anyone been able to get Facebook push notifications to work with the leak? They are supposed to be working worth 2.2 and higher. I also am aware that the Facebook app its less than perfect.

Mine are hit or miss. To be more direct, for the 15 or so notifications I had today, only once did they get pushed to my phone
I was thinking the same thing. I haven't received one push notification yet.
yeah im not getting any either
how do you set notifications to push? only setting i see is 30 - 1hr - 2hrs - 3hrs - 4hrs

The whole point of push is instant. I know that they only work for certain things. Trying to find out exactly what they are at the moment. This would be the only thing I miss from my BB
I think the only things that get pushed is whatever is listed in the settings which are: messages, friend requests, and event invites. There's no option to turn wall post on and off so Im assuming it doesnt get pushed
On my wifes droid 2 there is a "Push" option listed where you have the 30 minute, 4 hour, etc choices. I have tried 3 different roms, Kaos, aosp, and several of the dl30's roms and this option never shows up on this phone. I do not restore my FB settings each time either, but totally reinstall it.
From reading around on facebook it seems that all the Galaxy S phones, even those with offical froyo, do not have the push option. It seems that overall the support for the push notification on FB is not very good and that tey do not work on a lot of phones currently.
I've received them for those mentioned by jepr0x11, but not for other notifications.
I don't believe android supports a true push like blackberry does, although I think 2.2 does somewhat implement push...pretty sure fb just polls the server at a time interval set by the user tho

Yup Perfectly
Yeah the Facebook push notifications have been working for me perfectly! On eclair (2.1) they would never go through and i would have to manually go check if i had new messages or things like that but now with this Froyo it works perfectly! But at least for me its the same as what "jepr0x11" said.
I wish our fb app was as good as the one for Iowa but judging on how facebook and google have been bumping heads, I don't think facebook is in a rush to upgrade their android app. Is that a run on sentence? Haha
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Its not an issue with DL30 rather the FB app that doesn't support wall post notifications. Had the same problems on OG through DL09. All other notifications work as normal. All we can do is turn on email notifications and hope for am FB app update.

My must have app for the Acer (or any tablet really)

I just downloaded SyncSms. Work by synching your tablet and phone via dropbox and works very well. Can text and browse on my tablet for only 3 bucks!

curious
Let me get this straight. You download the app on both your phone and your tablet?
Is there any lag between sending and receiving txt's?
Interesting in purchasing and trying this out.
Yes, with android phone as well as a free Dropbox account (I have the Evo). you dl the app to your phone and sign into your Dropbox account and it automatically sets the device to "phone" then you do the same to the tablet and it recognizes it's a tablet. You have two options for synching, there's a manual refresh button, or what I do is set the "auto sync" feature to every 15 seconds (pretty close to instantaneous). I have seen neglible battery difference on the phone or tablet. Sent a few hundred texts using this method and not one issue. Well worth the price, and you're talking to a guy that has actually purchased only a few apps.

Yes I agree its brilliant. You can set the update interval to pretty much as fast as you want depending on how much you love your battery. Texting from the tab is boss!

Facebook instant notifications

Does your epic have instant Facebook notifications when someone postson your wall or comments on something you posted?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Nope. Also have a lot of issues with being notified of a comment but when I open the app it says I have nothing. Tweetdeck workedfine for a while but I got tired of it.
Sent from my Epic 4G via Tapatalk
Yes, I've been receiving push notifications from the Facebook app. Didn't think they had em since there's a refresh interval setting, but apparently that's for everything including your news feed I suppose. You get push notifications as long as you have the "notifications" box checked in the settings.
Professor did you come from a blackberry to the epic by chance?
Anyone else getting push notifications correctly?

Nope, came from the Samsung Instinct... lol, hella lame phone.
While it really doesn't make sense to me, this is the experience I have had.
Facebook notifications work wonderfully for a few days after I flash a new ROM. They fizzle out and stop working and I forget about it. Then I decide to flash a new leak or SRF comes out with a new version and all of a sudden they work again for a few days.
I don't know why that would be, but it happens every time. I stopped trying to understand and just live with it.
honestly... stock, rom, whatever, I could never get FB notifications to work. is it because I have it being autokilled?
I would have no idea since I turn them off to save battery life. Actually they do work until one goes off after I flashed a rom. Then I turn them off.

My girlfriend has had 2 Blackberrys and I recently got her a Desire and the only thing that bugs her is how she used to get instant notifications from her Facebook app and now she doesn't. The only things that come to her phone as notifications are event invites, friend requests and messages. That's all I get other than through my email as well.
Didn't even know FB pushed notifications. As of now I get notifications to my gmail.
Mine just started working correctly a few weeks ago. I get an instant notification when someone posts, comments on my wall, or sends me a message.
Not sure why it started working but it did..
I'm not sure, but I don't think Facebook uses C2DM. If they do, then they really, REALLY need to fire whoever does the coding for it because it sucks badly.
Edit: Apparently they DO use C2DM, they just suck ass at implementing it.

Wifi on American Airlines flights

Thought this might be of interest to some people.
Yesterday I was flying American Airlines and the plane that I was on had Wifi. When I opened up my web browser on my Xoom, I saw that it was about $10 for the flight. I didn't want to pay that, so I closed my browser, but left my Xoom connect to Wifi. About 2 minutes later, Google Voice goes off saying I had a text message. I opened it up and replied. Come to find out, Google Voice worked fine without paying for the service. I was able to send and receive texts and listen to voicemails. I then wanted to find out what other apps worked. Gmail was the only other app that worked fine. The Google Market would let you search for apps and read descriptions and such, but would not let me install apps.
So the next time you are on American Airlines, you can get text messaging and gmail for free.
I have 5 AA flights next month. Interesting.

It's become my preferred texting device, especially since eliminating my phone data plan and switching to a "standard" phone. I use Google Voice and the speech to text translation all the time and hardly ever send a text from my cell phone.
How do you enable voice for text support. Right now all I see is voicemail forwarding. Thanks

Google Voice is annoying...

I signed into Google Voice on my phone to check out what it was, then boom...it takes over my phone. I hit do not disturb because I think it'd revert everything back but instead it blocked all incoming phone calls/texts. So, I took Google Voice and signed out of it and now I have call screening (where I have to press 1 to accept calls) and I no longer receive texts...last I did was sign out then uninstall Google Voice. What the hell?
Running stock GRJ90 deodexed/rooted.
To completely disable it you have to sign into Google.com/voice and disable it in the settings

By the way, is it considered a bad thing to have Udon ramen noodles for breakfast if you're a broke bachelor?

So how do you stop annoying "press 1 to accept the call" feature, and retain the functionality of transcribed VM's and SMS?

On another note, I use GV for voicemail and voip when I want. On the first install it took over my entire phone buy after changing settings online I got it set up the way I wanted.

<3 i think the your problem is that you integrated your number when you install it instead of continuing press skip and then it will ask if you want to sign in with your gmail and follow the steps i had the same problem do not integrate!!1!!ONE!!
I'm finally able to use Google Voice without it taking over my device. After you've removed yourself from the software. You can go to the GV settings via the internet on your computer and just choose activate voice mail instead of choosing to integrate your device. Once this is done, open up GV on your device, and the first window allows you to skip the integration portion and allows you to just use it as Voicemail. BOOM!

I'll try this lol. I've got like 12 voicemails and can't get to them because I don't know my Sprint voicemail PIN. LOL
Question for Sprint customers who are using their Sprint number for their Google Voice account; are your Sprint mobile to mobile or anytime minutes accurate when using Google Voice?
Reason, I have seen complaints on other blogs, pertaining to inaccurate minutes usage and wondered if any of you have experienced this.
Best Regards!
