WiFi connection is slow - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

Max I'm getting is 108-122mbps on 5ghz, 40hz, power-save off. Any other frequency combination is in the 54-72mbps range. Kies seems good, but full N speeds would certainly be helpful for file transfers.

Slow! Are you joking? Really not going to be any better.

I'm not talking about internet speeds. The connection speed with the router.

If you are obsessed with the fastest wireless performance, here you go!
Try a different router. Wireless n equipment isn't always as good as advertised speed wise. Look at some reviews online and find a access point/router that actually can do 300mb/s.
Tips for all WiFi n performance issues:
Update router firmware, if current reboot router.
Use wpa2/aes and wmm(wep and wpa/tkip destroy performance)
Have only n clients connected to ap(no b,g,draft-n equipment. It slows down ap)
Use 20mhz channels. (Don't use 20/40 or 40mhz, don't use bonding. These will only gain maybe 20mbit under ideal circumstances and most of the time actually hurt performance in the range of 20-60 percent!)
Scan the channel space and move to an unused channel space. If it doesn't help try another. A WiFi scanner will show what ap's are on what channels. Using the same is like sharing a network cable. Spectrum is just media. A shared frequency is just that, shared.

Router does 300mbps with the notebook.
It's running a recent version of Tomato.
WPA2/AES with WMM and ACK on.
Router is set to N-only.
With 20mhz you will never get more than 150mbps. 40mhz is necessary for 300mbps and 450mbps.
Houses are far apart here, and no one else is using 5ghz.
__
Maybe 300mbps (or even 150mbps) just isn't something the phone can do.

Wow to no intelligent responses. The reason you only get link speeds of 150Mbps is the radio is 1x1 not 2x2 that is required for 300Mbps but that link speed is better than what the evolte is capable of so it's the fastest WiFi available on a phone my friend.

I have yet to see anyone come up with EXACTLY which chips are in the phone (guess I'll have to be the one to take a physical look).
It can be spec'd as one thing, show up in a software identifier as another, and still be a physically different chip with whatever capabilities.
It makes no sense at all that Slambung would have made a whole new circuit board to support this same CPU, the same screen, the same graphics, etc etc....
Even without looking I'm willing to wager money it's the same receiver chip with a simple disabled path or lane. Not a all difficult to limit the hardware in many ways (prom flash, disconnected pin, software, you name it). Very profitabable in the long run for a company to do so.
It's very funny to see all these people who say it's not possible because it was written down in the spec sheet that this is the limits of the hardware.
Heh, who wrote the spec sheet ?

I'm not so sure it is all the same. The new vibrant I thought I read will have a better screen then our originals, which would be the Super Amoled Plus screen. I may be wrong, but if it does have that screen which is suppose to get brighter and use less battery then I would assume the main board would be different also.

Wireless N for Evo. *SOLVED*

Will there ever be wireless n for the Evo, I understand that the chipset might have been built on g but how was someone able to get it working on a nexus one? Would the broadcom company have to release a driver; I heard a rumor that our wifi driver COULD support N but that was just something I heard. And Lastly, Isn't wireless n the standard now why is this not common in phones yet lol. Not only does the wifi on the Evo stink, its not even wireless n and it stinks

i tried man nothing, the section where you can change it from 5ghz is like grayed out. i have 2 n routers they act as an access point and bride, or you can use them as single n routers, my xbox and laptop pick them up but maybe that plays a part with the 5ghz. I guess when ur wrong ur wrong; maybe my routers of 5ghz only and thats why my evo cant see it. Might be time for a new router then; heres a screenshot of my access page it wont even let me remove 5ghz lol stupid netgear.
You gotta change where it says N only. It should be mixed or g and n mixed. Then it will give you a option to use 2.4 Ghz.

Those are 5ghz only. I have them as well. Evo can only use the 2.4ghz band. Which you've rightly figured out.
You could always set your router to broadcast 2.4 N is its capable like mine is. Then use those as a bridge/ap combo. That's how I have mine done.

This is what I have as well working with a N300

Possibly how to get VERY fast download speeds using wired tether and 4G

OK so this only applied to file downloads unfortunately (I think) BUT,
When initiating only one file download transfer speeds for me typically average about 40 KB/s, but when I then start multiple downloads while the first is still going I've been seeing averages of about 130-150 KB/s. I've only just seen this while downloading ROMs while tethered with a 4G connection but hopefully others can try/confirm this. I use my phone for my primary internet connection so I found this very useful for downloading large files.
That's pretty slow for 4G. I get speeds twice that on my 3G connection.

While tethered to your computer and then downloading to the computer though? I get much faster speeds down to the phone as well, but as far as I've understood it the tethering speeds have been poor so far for the shift.
If it is while tethered, which tethering app/version are you running? I've tried wireless tether, wired tether, and easytether and all have seemed to result in the same slow results for me.
Try using azilink (I have a post on this in the themes and apps section), it is a USB tether which is free, open source, and gives me download speeds over 1Mb/s (depending on the server from which I am downloading).

Router suggestions for N4

Greetings,
I'm planning to purchase a router for my office and I'd like to use it for my N4 via WiFi.
What specs should I be looking at?
Is there something I should consider (bands, frecuencies, etc.)?
My connection is not that fast, only 1.5MB.
Please share your experiences. It'd be truly appreciated.
For the best speed it should be N and 5GHz.

Wireless routers have different standards that they go by. As of right now for consumer use, there are B, G and N. B & G have been around for quite some time and N has had some time to develop to the point where its the fastest standard available currently.
So basically, you want to see if the router you are purchasing supports the wireless N standard. Chances are if the router supports N it will support B and G as well...

The frequency is to circumvent interference. For example, a lot of home phones operate on the 2.4 GHz frequency, which is probably why the first guy who posted recommended 5GHz, so you could have a dedicated frequency for Wi-Fi. If you can get your hands on a 5 GHz router, then go for it, but if not a 2.4 GHz router shouldn't be a problem...

[Q] Which router?

okay I know it is not a proper thread xD had no choice...help pls
Hi guys, I have an ISP service of 4mbps, and that gives me about 250kBps i believe, which is pretty fast for my country, ok, its not fast but its okay.
I bought a crappy Belkin wireless N router and it was ok, gave me about 180kBps on download.
But it broke down...
So now im offering 100 bucks for a good router.. was going for a good ASUS ac router but N is cheaper, so I was not sure if I should buy such good router with ISP bottlenecking the router speeds..
What do you think folks!?
I need one with good range also!

the N66u is a GREAT router. But that is way to much for your needs. a simple $19 TP-Link would fit the bill for you. even an old relible WRT54G would as well for that internet speed.

damn, I just wasted 100 bucks, But I also wanted long range because i have lot of walls in the house.
I also wanted to try new routers.
I know it is overkill xD But I think the range should be better.

Although I think you already ordered the router, I'm reassuring your choice: a good, fast router helps for local traffic too. It's a huge difference from G/100Mbps to N/1Gbps when it comes to wireless/wired transfers between your local devices, be them computers, laptops, phones, TVs or whatever else.
PS: You should emigrate to Romania where your usual download speed would be around 4-5MB/s for as low as 8-10$ a month!

omg, im paying for $15, IS of 4mbp...this is not good. But yeah, I believe network transfer and range should compensate for my inversion. Also I wanted to pay and learn/try something for experience because I use it on my everyday life, just like an smartphone.
Thanks for answering hav a great day

I personally use a Linksys EA2700 which was around 100$ here in Romania.
I don't fully recommend it as I sent back two crashing units (original software). The third one seems to be ok, but it runs dd-wrt (only when I go to the third router was dd-wrt stable for this model).
For more recommendations I'd go to smallnetbuilder.com and dd-wrt.com.
Good luck!

Thanks, I just made up my mind, I will go for the ASUS RT-N66U.
Dont know why you all prefer DD-WRT FW xD. Whats your fav feature in that firmware?
I think I will play with it a few weeks then, go for dd-wrt to try.
Thanks

Well... at least with my EA2700 I had three major reasons to switch to dd-wrt:
1. The original has at least one security flaw that nobody seems to patch it.
2. I really got used to local DNS (been using it for years with my previous router - WRT54GL)
3. I prefer running dynamic DNS on the router and dd-wrt has support for no-ip.
Good luck!
PS: 4. The interface is better than the original.

I agree, TL-WR1043ND is highly regarded. Just be sure that it is the second version, which is blue, like on the site.
Good luck!

execuse me, whats the benefit of using dd-wrt than original firmware? is that making the internet connection more stable?
Let me remind you why I picked dd-wrt over the original EA2700 firmware:
1. The original has at least one security flaw that nobody seems to patch it.
2. I really got used to local DNS (been using it for years with my previous router - WRT54GL)
3. I prefer running dynamic DNS on the router and dd-wrt has support for no-ip.
