[request] bell modem - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

can someone who is rooted and on sgs iii bell in canada upload their modem..
I need this to try and get around the stupid at&T RAT setings that doesnt allow you to turn off lte..
We dont have lte here in new hampshire yet and you get much better battery life with it disabled.. Just toggling to 3g (also blocked without an app) is not the same thing
thanks

I don't have mine yet it'll be rogers but what I would suggest is to remove your APN settings for LTE and see if that helps. Of course take a screenshot of your old settings with that nifty new feature lol.

not a good solution changing apn does not turn off the lte.. just doesnt use it.. not what i want to do.. i want to save battery so you have to actually turn it off.

I believe juice defender does this at least there are options for this. Now I'm unsure of what methodology juice defender goes by.

STOP taking the Network Mode away AT&T!!!

I love my new Galaxy S III, but once again I have no way to force HSPA+ only. I need this option while my phone sits in my desk all day. If I can turn LTE off then I can save battery life and still get calls/texts/emails.
STOP IT AT&T, JUST STOP IT!!! Your really starting to really aggravate your customers by not allowing them to select their preferred network.
I want the network mode option in mobile networks:
GSM/HSPA/LTE (Auto)
GSM/HSPA (Auto)
HSPA (only)
GSM (only)
STOP taking this off all your phones. Every other GSM carrier in the world allows this except you!!!
I hope ALL developers add this toggle in all the upcoming roms.
Your best bet until this is added/fixed, is to turn on wi-fi mode and turn off the mobile data connection.
That way you still can make calls, and have the wifi as your data, and if its off it wont use as much power as HSPA/LTE.

I think you kind of missed the point...
Let's say your at work all day and you don't use your phone much? Let's say your phone gets 1 bar of LTE and 4 of HSPA+. The signal constantly fluctuates ultimately leading to a dead battery much faster.
Wouldn't it be great to just turn LTE off? That way my phone gets a better signal and uses less battery life. Not to mention, I can still receive calls, texts, and e-mails, whereas airplane mode disables everything.
Wi-Fi isn't available everywhere.
PS: AT&T ain't adding ****, they released their first LTE device in November of 2011 and it also lacked this option.
I think you missed the point as well
The reason for turning on wi-fi is to direct the data connection to something other than the chip used for HSPA/LTE. I'm not looking to use the wi-fi connection as an alternative data source. I'm using it to prevent as much battery drain as possible whenever I am not using the phone.
It essentially IS turning off LTE, but it also is turning off your data, and if you don't have wi-fi then you wont have a data connection, but if you do then you will.
Airplane mode is just taking it a step further and blocking calls as well.
So there's no way to turn off LTE? Even via a 4g/3g toggle from the app store?

Nope, that's not how it worked on the HTC One X... even dialer codes would just reset on exiting. LTE stays on for some stupid reason with ATT.
A bet a toggle with root requirements will come out later./

Ok? What if you don't have Wifi and your in a very spotty LTE area with fluctuating signal?
Nevertheless, we need the toggle!!!
What about an APN switcher, would that work?

Nope, many have tried this but it doesn't stick. We need AT&T to add the option under mobile networks.

Then it would be best to turn off the Wi-fi and the Mobile Data connection, the only reason I have the Wi-fi on is if I'm in an area that has it (home, work, at&t hotspot) otherwise it is automatically turned off (I think?).
And I agree completely, I would love that feature, but until that time we have to make due with what we have, this is my solution, it isn't perfect but it works for me.

Yes, but like I said turning off mobile data completely turns off the data connection, whereas with this toggle we can change it to EDGE or HSPA+ only, still having a data connection.
I agree I like turning on edge only when I'm at work and home

I'm just hoping developers starting adding the GSM toggle via Mobile networks in their custom roms.
AT&T NEVER WILL!!!
It could be the sim card. I have a SIM card from 2007. The network toggle still works on my Thrill. Someone put a newer SIM card in their Thrill and the network toggle is gone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326760 post 27

And you hit the nail on the head. It's actually a mix of SIM Card and Radio. What we need is the canadian version of our radio and we will have it back.

i guess technically it could since it turns off everything (Except calls) and turns it all back on every 15 minutes to check if anything was received on Att servers.
But if hes waiting for an important text or something, it would come delayed until juice defender decided to retrieve it.
not a bad idea though.
Here's an idea, since your at a desk all day, invest $1.32 on monoprice into a USB cable and charge your phone...

I believe it just turns off 3g and 4g on verizon. My calls and texts are instant. Also, if you buy the app you can change frequency. Mine syncs every hour or two. It may be different with att since verizon handles their 4g in kind of a silly way.

How to force LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) or any other Preferred Network Type.

Hello, I have no problem receiving an LTE signal on BCE (Canada) through the Phone Info Menu. I can select any of the preferred network types including LTE, LTE/GSM, CDMA, LTE/GSM/CDMA but it won't stay. Every day I have to go back into the menu and it reverts back to the first selection "WCDMA".
Does anyone know how to force this so it stays on LTE/GSM/CDMA. So it will stay on the LTE-enabled network unless there is a loss of signal and it reverts back to HSPA? It does this automatically when "LTE/GSM/CDMA is selected, but again reverts to CDMA within a day usually.
I did some searches here, but 99% of what comes up is just people asking how to enable LTE or if their network gets it?
Any ideas? Maybe some sort of macro thing.
Regards.
Add this line in build prob
telephony.lteOnGsmDevice=1
Save
Reboot
Now in settings/more/mobile networks u will have an option to choose and it will stick. U have to add the line every time u flash ROMs.
But I keep iron WC DMA/gsm for better battery speed is OK on h+
Thanks for the helpful reply man. I haven't edited a build.prop yet, so Ill have to check it out.
Alright thats all done now, works like a charm. Like that I have the option now either way. I typically stick to WCDMA/GSM when on the road or at work where LTE is spotty, but on days off for around town I would rather just be on LTE as I usually just looking up something quick when Im shopping or something.
Thanks again.

I keep it at LTE, it does have less bars but quality is same for me, speeds are amazing. Also 4G is only data, not voice, so when u have an active call it will change to 3G.(but that's not the phone it's the network)
don't forget to do it again if you flash new ROM, also Tethering WiFi won;t work, there is a fix but it's complected for me, so I just go to W/G if I need to share connection.
So, my Nexus 4 shipped today, and it'll be in my grubby little hands by tomorrow evening. I, unfortunately, can't activate it until March, as I have to wait for my Verizon contract to end, but I keep seeing this LTE stuff, with no real explanation. I do know that the Nexus 4 has an inactive LTE radio in it, but what's the use of activating it, if T-Mobile doesn't have LTE? Is this only for the AT&T users?

There are other threads dealing with who can access LTE in the USA. I am in Canada and on Bell.
I'm in Canada, using Fido. I activate the LTE on my Nexus 4. It works fine, but I'm not able to share internet with wifi hotspot.
I have Android 4.2.1 (latest OTA from Google).
There is a bug with this version or it's only because I activate LTE manually ?

I'm with the original firmware. Android 4.2.1

i recently got a rom from revolt on my n4 and i switched cdma to lte gsm wcdma auto
i also went into build.prop and wrote down telephony.lteOnGsmDevice=1. i went and to setting, more, mobile networks chose the correct setting. so now i got 4G. great i can make calls. GREAT. but i cannot receive calls...
need help with this. im really choked about this ROM
Even if I select "LTE/CDMA" in the Mobile network settings menu. The settings page keeps displaying "CDMA preferred".
Does this mean it didn't work? In quick settings, I see my mobile data connection as 3G Bell.
LTE only seems to work when using the *#*#4636*#*# trick in the Phone app.

Thanks, but LTE doesn't work in my country, its always stick on lte/gsm/wcdma but it doesnt detect my gsm so i have to manually set it on GSM only but wont stick here every time i restart my phone i have manually set it on GSM only otherwise it wont detect my network
Any advice ?
How can I make "WCDMA Only" the default selection?
Where I Iive there is no LTE and the coverage of the service is quite poor, so the phone keeps jumping between E and 3G/H. I have to manually go into the phone app and select "WCDMA Only" is there a build prop tweak to make the "WCDMA Only" the default option instead of "WCDMA Preferred"?
Thank you.

Aah Crap ! Well thanks man saved me from buying on guess i will have to stick with my rezound for now then
fixed it
For everyone still searching for a solution to this problem, this worked for me. Go to phone information and turn your radio off. Then switch to LTE/GSM/CDMA then power down, DO NOT TURN YOUR RADIO BACK ON. Now remove your Sim card, put it back in, reboot and you should be good to go. DO NOT HGO BACK INTO PHONE INFORMATION OR ELSE IT WILL NOT STAY
If it still isn't connecting try fiddling around with your APN settings.

Switch Network Modes!

Sorry, I'm a little new to the AT&T Note 3 as I was used to T-Mobile and their phones (still use their network by the way)...So, I was looking around to see if I could switch my network modes (e.g. GSM,WCDMA,LTE, or combinations of both). Its pretty helpful if you need to switch to WCDMA,GSM, or other modes. Some of you may know it, but I am new to this stuff and hopefully I help others who don't know much about this either. On your dialer, enter *#*#4636#*#* then press device information and you'll be able to switch network modes! Just found that out and wanted to enlighten others. Press that thumbs up if this was somewhat helpful!
we already know this but thanks. And to get 4G on an att note 3 is pretty much useless without enabling the AWS bands.

On all of my past AT&T Phones, I never had this stick for me. The phone would always switch back to LTE after a short time. I am using Intelli3G with Xposed and I can now successfully turn off LTE when I need to with a toggle.

The building that i work in seems to almost block the LTE signal for all AT&T phones. There are a few of us in my department that have issues with this. The phone will constantly switch between 4G and LTE, this also causes the phone battery to die faster. Since we can't flash an unlocked radio the Note 3, the Xposed module was my best bet. As soon as i switch over to the just 4G by making my phone use WCDM only, I have no issues with signal. Using the hidden menu, (*#*#4636#*#*), and switching it to WCDMA Only doesn't stick permanently. I had this issue once before with my Skyrocket, but with that phone you were able to flash a RAT Unlocked radio or a non-LTE radio on the phone and that would disable LTE as well. As soon as i step outside of my building, my LTE signal is strong and I have no issues at all.
In my jobs basement only people who get any sort of signal are people who have tmobile. Would this help me get signal as well?
It's worth a shot, it works flawlessly for me.

I have to wonder if changing your network mode after a throttling would still allow good download speeds???????????????
Update: sadly changing to a different network mode does not work to remove a throttle. Neither does flashing a different modem. If only the bootloader was unlocked.... Crossing fingers and remaining hopeful with my blazing edge network speeds.: (
Can anyone tell me what the default mode is?

It's hard to imagine a good reason for doing this. LTE is a power hungry mode and you'd end up with no service when 3G was available but LTE was not. Nevertheless you can set the band preference to LTE in the service mode menu. I don't believe that there is any explicit setting to set LTE exclusively unless you leave your phone in test mode, locked on one channel, which would have substantial drawbacks.
You could look into apps that claim to do what you want. I don't know how effective they might actually be.

LTE / 4G isn't always available so you would actually be without a data connection when it drops out of range, be it for bandwidth restrictions on the network side or simply bad coverage, dropping down to a heightened H+ or even 3G would mean a consistent connection instead of actually just losing your network.
Not a great idea i'm afraid.
Leaving it on a switch is the best method.
Imo it's also a bad idea, but if you really want to, there's an Xposed module. It's only for the G900F though.

can i downgrade or flash a earlier modem partition?

i am having issues with my phone now, i only get E (edge speed all the time ever i pay my bill) i have a gig of LTE data and i always get edge speed no matter where i am in the 5 burrows of NY. this was not the case before, i never gotten LTE from the beginning because tmobile uses different bands then what this phone has< that i understand and will address another time but i use to always get H+ service watch was great and idk what happen but after some updates my service degraded and i cant figure out what it is if its ether my sim card going bad (i dont know anyone with another tmobile phone) or if my phone is messing up. I called the company and they said everything is ok on their end and that i have coverage and lte capability and insisted that it was my phone. i tried back flashing a while back and to no avail. i am about to attempt to deepflash back to factory image back when the phone first came out but i was wondering if that will even downgrade the modem or make a difference?
