Home button lag - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

Anyone notice a 1-2 second lag time when you click the home button?
I notice that I can close the app drawer much faster if I use the capacitive back button to the right of the home button, instead of the home button. I read another post that this might be due to S Voice because it is waiting to see if you will double click the home button to activate A voice. Tried disabling s voice but still have lag.
It's getting a little annoying for me especially considering that the rest of the phone is so snappy.

Disable the S-Voice home-button double-tap in settings and the lag disappears.

Where in settings is this located in can't seem to find it.

This eliminates about 50% of the lag. Hopefully someone comes up with a fix for it.

Home Button Lag!!

This is driving me nuts! I know Samsung implemented it to check for the voice input, but is there any way to disable the voice input so pressing the home button gives us an instant action?
I doubt it's due to the voice input function. It's bugging me too:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15011538#post15011538
This isn't about the wake from lock screen. It's about the home button not responding instantly when the device is awake.
Every time I hit the home button while navigating/apps it always pauses for a sec before acting.
This is such an unnecessary speed bump on an otherwise speedy device.
I just removed voice input using Titanium Backup. I don't need it.

After a fresh restart the home button does have a delay but not intolerable. After using the phone for a few hours (more like a day) the home button reaction times gradually increase to a point of slowdown and irritation. A restart fixes it again.
Anyone else noticed this?

diconnect charger, wait 2 seconds lag gone
re-lock, wait ten seconds or more, lag is back
welcome to Deep Sleep mode (hibernate mode.)
I've been running launcher pro since yesterday and the home button hasn't slowed down as it usually would with Touchwiz.
So it seems as though touch Wiz is the culprit from my initial testing. Will use it for a couple days more and see how it goes

Home screen reloading issue - fix

I've been experiencing this quite a lot
Surfing the net pressing home button and find the home screen reloads. So bit of a lag which is very annoying, until samsung sort this out with a software update there is a work around. Simply disable s-voice from.settings that's it. I haven't actually experienced screen reload since.
Let me know if this works for you or not.
Try this
Untick under s-voice settings the following:
Launch S Voice
Wake up command
Under application manager go to running select s-voice and stop all services.
Go to all and disable s-voice. This will remove the app from app draw list too, you can also disable chat on app too.
This should stop the app running in the background.
My mate has got this phone has has also experienced this problem a bit as well.
I was just wondering when you say 'disable s voice' do you just mean just disable s voice opening when double pressing the home button? Or is there a setting to actually turn it off?
Yer had same issue, disabled see voice, all good

I would also like to know this. I stopped s voice opening when I double tap home button. That fixed the home button lag, however, I'm still experiencing the ocassional reload of the home screens.

Another nice side effect is it makes the phone feel alot snappier because it removes the home button lag.
EDIT: should have refreshed the thread :/ mattyt_491 was faster.. I don't think there is a way to disable it completely (without rooting) I didn't have any reloads since I disabled the double click. Then again I restarted the phone and it usually takes half a day or so to start happening..

Guys don't get frustrated. As per thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1694508&page=3, just set the size of dalvik cache to 128MB and everything will be fine. My personal experience, just perform these two extra steps:
1. Use Nova Launcher or Apex, takes less memory
2. Use 2D rendering from developer options, It does not make it slow at all.
3. From developer option, limit background processes to 4. Trust me you will not notice it.
4. And yes, disable S voice after you are done with initial experiment. Its not useful for anything.
And my phone is working snappier as it was when I opened the box. I will update it after few day's use. Running smoothly for 2 days. Today is third.

Why don't I have this problem? I think it's be ause I usually check what's open and close things. You should go into deb settings and have 4 processes max to test if it really is your memory or you just need to reflash.

I'm having the same problem.
Is rooting the phone and making these adjustments the only solution to this issue?
Switching off S-voice did work temporarily, but the problem has returned.
I'm new to andorid having just switched over from the dark side of iOS. Is Samsung likely to fix this in a coming update?
I find it hard to believe they didn't spot this in pre-testing the phone.
Thanks
I don't have this problem too. Strange.

[Q] Double-tap Home to open Google Now voice input?

I just learned that double-tapping the Home button will open S-Voice. That's great, but I'd honestly prefer Google Now. My old droid incredible (Yeah, I made quite the leap with this upgrade) had a physical search button, and being able to hold that for Now voice input was one of my must-haves. Any way to replace that command to open Now instead? (unrooted. Waiting for recovery before I bother.)
Im using nova launcher and I set up my gestures so that when I double tap home screen it shows my recent apps. But you could set it to open google now as well.

try holding down the soft menu button to the left of the home button :good:
then all you have to say is 'Google' and your voice input begins!

Another way is to use an app called Home2Shortcut.
You can follow step 3 in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823194&highlight=home2shortcut (You don't need to be rooted for Step 3.)

Thanks, but I just tried it and it seems the stock double home setting overrides it - so it still goes to S Voice unfortunately.
You have to disable the option to launch S voice by double tapping home from within the S voice settings.

Post OTA home button lag

Home button lag went away after freezing s-voice before OTA.
Now after updating, lag is back even though s-voice is re-frozen.
Any ideas to get rid of home button lag?

Unfreeze svoice, do the double tap on home to open it then hit menu inside the svoice app and uncheck the double tap home to open box. Once the system knows it doesn't have to wait for a second tap to do another action there's no lag

You can turn off hard keys. (sm-p600 mk1)

Sorry if this is old news but I seen a few people asking if you could disable these especially over at the clean Rom thread cause the developer included soft keys in the rom. Anyways again I'm sorry if this is old news but you go to accessibility/access control. It then walks you through a series of steps like if you want certain parts of the screen to not be affected by touch and so on. I thought this was pretty sweet. Not sure if it's for all models and firmware but worth a shot!

It's all the way at the very bottom of Accessibility. It is listed under Recognition. Turn it on. Then hold down the home button and and volume down to enter the wizard.
It should be helpful for when I do note taking at a meeting so I don't have to worry about touching the physical buttons. But for Button Savior Pro it disables the Home, Menu and Back so it's not something I can have on all the time. Plus the notification drawer cannot be interacted with anymore while this mode is on.
