Hi!
I put my MAGLDR on my HD2 and tried tytungs ICS ROM, was not happy with the performance, went back to Boxmax GB Sense build, but after restoring data+apps the phone will start rebooting every few minutes.
I boot andorid from the SD card, so I tried a few versions of the ROM, v8.5 and v7 ([BoxmaX.S3.5.v8.5][Runny HTC Sensation XL][Kmarc2.1 + KTytung r14]).
Same result, sooner or later it'll start rebooting.
The weird thing is that I got another HD2 which is set up identically (magldr+BoxmaX.S3.5.v7) and is working perfectly for months.
I'd appreciate if someone could give me a few ideas on how to debug this?

When it reboots, is it when you're heavily using the phone? Do you feel the back of the phone getting warm before it reboots? Do other SD ROMs work perfectly? Logically since another HD2 with the exact same setup works fine, I would assume that it's something to do with hardware but I don't really know why something like this would happen so suddenly (assuming it worked fine before you changed the ROM)

Ah, some more info: Phone was working perfectly with wm6.5+haret, and with magldr+ICS (albeit with ICS bugs) but no reboots ever though it was always overclocked.
As to reboots, they happen for no reason, even when on stock frequency. I don't even have to use the phone, it'll be sitting there sleeping and I just hear the boot up sound.
And here we go: swapped the sd and sim cards, and it is rebooting even in the other HD2, so it's a software OR SD card problem.
I'll move my data to another SD card to exclude it from the equation, but I doubt it's the card.
Ok, so my procedure to setting up a rom is:
after the 1st boot, either log in in to google or not
install TB, restore apps+data
use MyBackup to get SMSes back
Only after or in the middle of that does the rebooting start happening, once it starts it's game over as I only get a minute or two before reboot.
My idea is that something I'm restoring is causing it, but have no clue what it could be.
My last backup was in ICS, but I have no clue how could that be a problem, apps are apps :|
I'm only backing up/restoring regularapps+data not any system stuff.
How could get to the logs from the data.img? Maybe they'll give me a clue about this?

Hmm, so if it reboots after you restore then perhaps you're right, it may be a problem with something you're restoring. Apps may be apps, but some apps are different for ICS and GB (e.g. YouTube, Launchers, Google Chrome etc.) so it's quite possible it may be causing a problem. Try doing the following:
Fresh install the SD build
Restore apps which you KNOW are the same on ICS and GB. This includes all games and many other apps.
For apps which you aren't sure about, download them for the play store.
Manually restore specific app data for the apps you downloaded
Hopefully, if the problem's to do with an app being restored, this will sort it out.

Could be, but I only had ICS running for 10 day and did not install any new apps. I don't have any games

Done that ~10 times.
With different approaches. (Restoring more/less)
Tried both newest v8.5 and v7 (gf's [email protected] is running the v7).

Yeah, I'll have to do that. I'll see if have the backups before ICS and just put the latest data.
What a chore
Tried another SD card, same happens, so at least I know it's 100% software fault.
How could I check the logs?

Hi! When running ROMs that are "newer" such as 2.2 ROMs they crash/freeze for no apparent reason. With or without an SD card in, everything wiped, newly updated recovery etc etc.
However! When i run a ROM like Kimera 1.8 Cupcake ROM it all floats on perfectly.
I cant see any rhyme nor reason behind the problems im experiencing. Any thoughts? It's really killing me :/
Could you define "crash/freeze" a bit more specific please? Does the phone boot up as normal?
If it just hangs on randomly when using the phone normally, it might be a ROM specific problem (not neccesary 2.2), maybe some app who can't handle 2.2 just yet, or you configured it badly (overclocking?).
As riemervdzee says, more information required.
What ROM are you trying? What radio? What CPU settings if available?
I tried SenseHero (2.1), Froyos and currently running Fusion!ROM 2.2 and they all run perfectly on my G2 Touch (Hero)
It boots up perfectly but then either reboots after random use or just freezes in the sense that i use some app or scroll through the app list or try to make a call and it simply freezes up and is unusable until i remove the battery and reboot.
I am running FROYO_2.2.1_Special_Edition_RC1_update1 and as far as i can think of i haven't configured it anything specific. Is there perhaps a way to reset every setting such as CPU setting etc that might be wonky?
Im running 63.18.55.06PU_6.35.15.14 Radio!
lol i love you're definition of "newer roms" when you've only used 1 rom.
first i'd recommend trying some others. i'm not saying the one you tried is bad at all but it may just not agree with your phone for some reason.
Having said that - if I were you i'd check exactly what you're wiping - it sounds to be that you haven't cleared the dalvik cache or something (i.e. you've not done a full wipe before flashing a new rom).
My new bie guide has the process for flashing a new rom (part 2 i think).
I've run a myriad of roms, im just stating that this is the one im currently running and experiencing problems with.

What exactly is the problem of running an other 2.2 ROM? It could be a ROM specific problem, which frankly occurs at your phone (egh, sometimes happens ).
If you are sure you wiped data, dalvik, cache and ext2 (if any) I really suggest you move to another ROM and see if that one works OK.
I experience exactly the same problem with every 2.1 and 2.2 ROM so i doubt its ROM specific. I've wiped everything. Im quite clueless in this case what the problem might be!
The new Android Market (vending.apk) had lot's of alignment issues on MIUI ROMs. Here's a fixed vending.apk that Absolute on MIUI-Dev put together. Just flash it and enjoy!
DO A BACKUP BEFORE INSTALLING! It works for some but for some it causes FC's. There's currently no information what's causing this.

Still not working. Force closes every time
No issues for me, simply flashed and all is good. Fixed the alignment issues aswell.
Have you tried removing the old market app and then try installing this one?

There are some random issues with new market and MIUI. When I first installed the market I pushed it via ADB and that caused the market not to work. The next time I flashed a zip and it worked. I've seen people reporting that sometimes it takes many attempts to get it to work.
Fc on my Desire too...removed old market first ... What now?

You made a backup right? You should be able to find the old market somewhere by googlint it. What MIUI version are you using btw? I consider it weird that it works so randomly.
Managed to install 1 app, then force closed the whole time. Erasing user data didn't helped.
Hey, running 12.11, at the beginning it works and i downloaded some apps, than it crashed, tried to delete, wipe cache and reflash the zip, but now it crash every time im startet it twice... Btw, old market is ok, backuped it!

Well that's definately weird Have any of you tried installing it a few times again? Like I said earlier I had crashes at first install but after recovering and installing again it started working correctly.

see u!
anybody know if this works on the dinc?
it works for me..try this method
i dunno if thisll help anyone but ive been trying for the past week relentlessly to get this to work and i think ive found a solution..at least for me..
i did a clean wipe [data and dalvich] twice to be safe even with amon_ra's..i know its amon's but im just picky
installed miui 12.3_final.zip and booted into it WITHOUT installing the new market yet, and then i opened up the old market to make sure even that was working and to get everything in the cache's memory
reboot..
install barnacles-update-vending-v2.2.6.zip [he claims this fixes the fc issues]
reboot..
let everything load and try the market it should work..it did for me
reboot..and installed the 12.3.1.update.zip over that and it still worked..
the alignment issues are still off so far and i havent tested the fixed alignment .zip yet and ill update after i have..
if anyone is successful in this, or unsuccussful let me know
i have a stock miui kernal also so that might be it...i dunno yet
im flashing the trickle battery kernal now, update in a bit
credit goes to barnacles for his work
Hi
Sorry if this has been cleared up in another thread, but I cannot find the answer to this problem.
I am running Gingerbread 2.3 (Cynogen) on my phone via the file manager method. Everything was fine until one day after I booted back into Android after a normal soft reset - The keyboard would keep hitting "Q" no matter what I pressed. I could not open The browser as I would get an error message.
I thought maybe it was the extended battery I was using, so I reformatted my sd card, re booted gingerbread and everything was back to normal.
Then last week it happened again. I dont remember installing anything new. It is also not the build Im sure, because this did happen a while ago on another Cynogen mod I used.
I am pulling my hair out wondering what to do. There is no point in reinstalling it because it will happen at a seemingly random time again.
Does anyone have any clue or suggestions on how to fix this??
Thanks

Maybe it's a bug in the ROM
Try different rom and see if this problem still persists, if yes, maybe a hardware problem related issue
Cheers
There are a few roms with 100% support for the official extended batteries(s). Your best bet is to go with one of them.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App
I recently received a new HD2 i the mail (wore out the hard keys on my last one ) and i quickly proceeded to remove winmo ASAP. The same way I've done a thousand times. Android (sense of eclipse) finally boots and every time i try to download an app it says the download has failed. EVERY TIME! I've tried re flashing the rom numerous times, re flashing cwm, magldr, task29 all with the same outcome. I also tried 3 diffferent sd cards and formatted 2 of them. This is a rom that was working fine on my old phone and i even tried a different rom (typhoon cm7) with exactly the same problem. I've had andoid on my phon since the sd days so i'm not really new at all this, but I'm not an expert so if somebody thinks this sounds familiar please help. Thanks for your time.

Hi,
I can't say I've had problems with every downloaded app,but certainly a few.
As you can see from my sig,I'm using the same ROM.
If any app failed to download,I just repeated the process several times, and it evetually took.
The other thing I tried, was switching from wi-fi to data,or vice-versa.Then it worked.
thanks for the reply
I've tried WiFi and on edge. used the WiFi for a long time so i know its not that, and the browsing works fine.hmmm

Hi,
What I meant was,if it didn't download on wi-fi,try downloading it on data.
Unexplained
Ok, so I used winmo for the entire day yesterday. Then this morning I tried flashing android one more time just for the heck of it. For no apparent reason it's working fine, apps downloading and installing perfectly. Now I'm afraid to flash any different roms, worried it might happen again. I did everything the same as always so I'm not sure what was wrong be fore or if it'll happen again. Hmmmm...
It is a common problem. You need to make sure that you set up / login to the gmail account before trying the market. The solution I received is quoted at the bottom of this post.
Here is the solution given to me when I couldn't download from the android market. I went from a working SD Android version to the next version (when the market wouldn't download). The only difference was that I had set up the gmail account then went onto the market with the first version but went straight onto the market with the next version and then logged onto gmail.

To fix it you go into Settings/Applications/manage applications/all and click on the following:
Google Backup Transport - then click clear data
Google Partner Set Up - then click clear data
Google Services Framework - then click clear data
Market - clear data
Reboot the phone, and Market should then work
Make sure you add your gmail account 1st before attempt to use the market

Thanks for your input. I am having trouble figuring out what was wrong and what fixed it. I know that's not the issue here because the I would try apps in "my apps" (meaning I was signed in) in the market and also ones I've never downloaded before. Also maybe its gierbread or just the two roms I was on but I couldn't even open the market till I signed in with Google. I know cause after flashing a million times I was anxious to try the market quickly and forgot to sign in. It would then re direct me to the Google sign in. Strange
This is actualy a dual question because I don't know if the two are related. But one problem came up after solving the other.
My wife and I both have a Galaxy S4 i9505. We are Dutch and on the Vodafone network I rooted mine but hers is untouched. Recently after the update I began to experience a bootloop. I thought it was related to the rooting. Keep in mind I didn't flash another rom. Just rooted my S4. The flashing comes maybe later. :silly:
So I did a complete factory reset and much to my surprise I found out in Samsung KIES that the use of my internal memory decreased very much. After reset and new install of all my apps ( and placed them as much as I could on the sd card as before) I had a total use of 1.68 GB from the 9 I got. Before the update I used almost 6 GB of 9 GB
The bootloop however was stopped. And everything works fine. Except acalendar but to that point I will come later on.
Recently my wifes S4 started bootlooping. She also had the update a while ago. Ther only option I could think of was a factory reset. I went on doing that and again all works fine. Exept...... acalendar offcourse
So my questions are:
Has anyone experienced the bootloop after the update?
And could the update causing acalendar to stop functioning.
The problem with acalendar is that the 4x4 widget won't stick to the homescreen. I tried everything but whatever I do, if I hit OK or the return button the screen comes up empty and no widget. The app itsel;f works and the app icon will attach to the homescreen. But I don't want the app icon I want the widget.
can anyone help plz. I allready posted a question on the developers website but so far no comment.

Just got a reply from the developers. Ok time off I can imagine... but 1 1/2 month vacation???? And ALL of there developers on vacation? Ths makes the app less appealing
QUOTE.......Hi, this is an automatic out-of-office reply. We are sorry, but also developers need some vacation once in a while, thus for deeper technical problems you'll have to wait till mid-November for me to get back to you. For less technical issues Tapir Apps support will get back to you.......
Just got a rply from Tapir support:
Try uninstall and reinstall it... maybe that helps... deuheuuu
Do you have acalendar installed on your sd? Because then that will probably cause those problems.
If so, then I think that also caused the bootloops.

Mine was installed on the SD card.. My wifes was not..... still bootloop
tnx 4 reply
Do you use an app or script for moving your apps to the SD? I still think that moving the apps to the SD is causing the bootloops. Based on your information, that is my conclusion. Maybe it was not caused by Acalendar but some other app.
For the problem with Acalendar you should stay in contact with the developers and hope they will fix it. Or you can try to flash a custom rom and hope it will work on those roms.
tnx 4 the reply,
the S4 came with the option to move apps to the sd card after the update. So no external script used. I fixed my problem with aCalendar. I made a backup in Samsung Kies so I reverted aCalender back to my S4 and that worked. But my wife doensn't have the backup. Tomorrow I will try though toput aCalendar back using my own backup. Still finding it strange though...
