Is it just me or is the USB cable that comes bundled with the sgs3 of significantly lower quality than that of the one bundled with the original galaxy s? I plugged my phone in a total of 4 times today before my USB cable died. Anyone have a similar experience?

Nope. Mine actually feels the same as the one I got with my S2.

Since I have gotten the Epic I have had so many issues with windows seeing the phone and installing the proper drivers even right after restarting the phone. Im lucky if windows see's the phone one out of 10 times I have to plug unplug etc etc until my pc's see the darn phone.
So I caught a post earlier that suggested to try a different cable and BAMM!!! phone links every single time no issues. Im using the usb cable that came with my evo now. Just side by side you can see the huge quality difference.
Samsung might want to check these cables and I suggest if your having charging or communication problems with the phone to try a new cable.
Let me know if any of you are also able to reproduce this!!
Yes. My cable actually broke the 2nd day of owning this phone because it was tugged on a little too hard while i was using my phone with it charging. It wouldn't charge the phone unless it was being pushed upwards or held a certain way.
Pathetic.
I've since been using my girl's MyTouch 3g cable and have had no issues whatsoever.
I just purchased a few new cables from monoprice. I've always had awesome results from them and they are cheap.
Yes the cable that comes with the epic should not be used with a computer IMO. Just look at the charger that plugs into the wall and compare it to the USB pins on your computers case.
The pins are raised a lot higher on the part that plugs into the wall compaired to how raised the pins are on my PC's case. I'm running an antec 1200 and I would consider the front USB ports to be really "tight". I then tried a different cable and have had no problems.......OTHER THAN BATTERY LIFE IN GENERAL sucks on the epic.
I didn't Realize there was a problem with the usb cable on th
e computer side but I have been using my I mac since my pc took a dump b. i think the phone end of the usb cable is just crap.it seems to disconnect really easy and not near as robust as the one that came with my hero. Still love my epic though!

Come on. Both the cable and the wall unit sucks. A phone that is 500 bucks and you give me a .7 amp charger and a cheap ass cable? My HTC touch pro came with a 1 amp charger, that looked nice, and came with a good cable.

Right? Well at least we got 16g sd cards. They have to give and take you know? lol
my cord works just fine.
However i only have one mini usb (the one that came with it) so i ordered some micro usb to mini usb adapters so i can use all my old cables.
Just order a bunch of microUSB cables from monoprice. It's like $1.20/cable. I ordered 7 so I have a large collection of easily lost cables.
How the hell did I not know about this site? THANKS
Hey,
So I've been having a lot of problems with the micro-usb port on my Nexus S. I don't know why but it seems very loose and in order for me to charge I have to position it a certain way. The USB cable easily comes out. Is there any kind of fix for this problem?
Thanks

+1 for micro USB problem
The issue you raise with the loose microUSB majorly affects my opinion of this device & Samsung as a vendor. I am on my 3rd Nexus S, the first 2 being returned for loose microUSB issues each within a few weeks of use. Now I just put up with it on my 3rd. It isn't me, else all my other phones would have the same problem. My Nexus One still performs well, so I'm switching back to it now that I have 2.3.3 running on it sweetly. I hope Samsung is not the vendor of the next Nexus phone for this very reason.

I thought I had a problen with my usb port, but it turns out the OEM usb cables are not very good, or at least not very tight. I bought a few new ones at cable wholesale and they work perfectly and fit snuggly. You can probably find some on Amazon.
The charging port on my Nexus S is fine. I bought a GPS a couple weeks ago that takes a Micro USB as well, and when I have it connected to the computer and move it, it will disconnect. If I use my Nexus S USB cable, it's a nice fit.
So.. Maybe it's the cable? I'm also wondering if you were to ever-so-slightly bend the receptacle on the phone, would that help? Not that I would recommend such a thing, but I would probably do it.
I have a few cables from my older phones they're also very loose. I'll try some more. I don't have a receipt or anything so I can't even return or claim warranty on it. Could I maybe contact Samsung about this problem?
Funny I come across this. Just noticed mine is loose and needs placing just right in order to charge.

It's the cable. I've used the samsung cable for a while now, and just recently i used a new cable and it fits as tight as the samsung cable used to be
Coming from a N900 which the USB receptor broke apart from its board, I'd say its better to have a port which is a bit loose and allows the cable to move a little than a super tight port in which every bend of cable is passed and held solely by the soldering on the board.

Mine used to be like that too. But I think its just the cable because, now I use the stock Evo cable and it fits like a charm.

If it's still warranty I guess you can still try your carrier to replace the phone. I use my old cables from my Nokia N85 and it fits perfectly and grips tightly. The stock cable doesn't even support development
I'm led to believe that the main reason (or at least one of them) that manufacturers switched to micro USB from mini USB is that the sprung part which wears out is on the devices' socket with mini USB, whereas its on the cable with micro.

Hello all.
I have had Nexus 4 for 2 weeks now. Absolutely love the device. Doesn't really have any problem with it. Last night, my phone didn't charge when I plug it in the wall charger (LG charger with Kindle USB cable). So I thought I forgot to charge it. I plug it in the wall charger at work, a HTC charger/USB cable. It is still not charging.
But if I plug it into my laptop, it chargers and I can transfer files between the phone and laptop.
I haven't even rooted the phone yet. Locked bootloader. Stock everything and the latest update.
Noticed that there is something similar going on with S3. So this is not a Samsung problem. It's an Android problem.
Any help is appreciated.
EDIT: Nevermind.
I think it's the charger's fault. Glad it's not our phone though.
Have you tried using the wall adapter and cable that actually came with your Nexus 4?

the wall adapter was from LG. I don't think the USB cable is faulty since I can connect to Laptop ok.

You should try the wall adapter and cable that came with your phone just to be certain the phone is faulty. Different adapters have different current outputs and different cables are better Suited to handle larger or smaller outputs. The kindle cable you speak of I know for sure is not designed to consistantly output at higher levels. Also, Older Samsung wall adapters like the one that comes with the Epic never had enough current output to charge my HTC phones anywhere near as quickly as my genuine HTC wall adapters.

I think my gf stepped on mine and it doesn't have a great connection, while my old s3 cable fits snuggly but takes 3 times as long to charge. This is all I found, do you guys know where I can get a tried and true oem charging cable for the s4?

If you want a original samsung one:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/data-cables
You can easily get one in a trustworthy hardware store.
They are just in the Samsung's section.
The ones from Samsung looks like the original Galaxy S cables
Hello
Since a couple of days I noticed something weird with the included fast charger.
Sometimes when I plug it in the phones says 4h+ to be fully charged then I just unplug the USB cable and put it back in and it says 1h10min to be fully charged
Sometimes i even have to unplug it 2 times to get the fastest charge speed..
Is this normal or am I doing something wrong??
I'm rooted with arter97 kernel

It happen to me too, and im on stock. I do the same thing you do in order to get the fast charging.... is not the end of the world but is a little annoying.
Try using a different cable. I read somewhere that there was some issue with the included fast charger which turned out to be a bad cable.
I haven't noticed this as an issue yet however I never use the included USB Cable (could hurt resale value if accessories are beaten up)
Picked up a pile of very nice and thin Red USB Micro cables from eBay a few years back, they have lasted a few phones and still look brand new, cost maybe a couple of quid if that.
Okay I'll try changing out the cable, will see if it makes any difference

So switched the cable with an old Sony one and it seems that the problem is gone
So it seems that the Samsung cable is not the best..

Schweet, least its only the cable and not the device, I'm unsure if a peripheral will be covered by any warranty mind .. bummer

Get a new Micro USB cable from Amazon. They retail at around 5-6 bux and they are mostly 20AWG cables which should be much better than an old cable utilizing the Rapid Charging.

I would say thicker the better for charging. So, I would say smaller the better if you're going for a non OEM cable for charging . There are other factors too. Read this for more info.
Are you sure the problem is cable not adapter?
