I was watching youtube videos on how the gallery app on the int'l S3 plays a short preview clip of all your videos before you even select one, on my sprint S3 all the videos are static, could it just be the file format? anybody else come across this?
I believe it's the video app, not gallery.

no its the gallery it should show a preview ... I noticed that in someones review video I was like WTF?!? yup maybe our s4 isnt snappy enough to do it :crying:
ya thats what I was thinking as well, i'm sure somebody will port it over from the int'l one eventually I just wish it was a standard feature. Hopefully it runs just as well on the S4 as it does on exynos
I wouldn't want my gallery to look like a gif-infested site from the 1990's. TBH, I'm glad they didn't implement it.
Also, our processors have the same benchmarks as the Tegra 3 and probably will until Android 4.1 comes out which should utilize all 4 cores properly. So if the international can do it, so can we.
the video app definitely shows a short preview... im sure if they could do it there, they could do it in the gallery... doubt it has anything to do with performance issues

my mistake it is the video player which shows the preview and not the gallery, thanks :good:

I really love the phone and especially its photo capabilities.
Yet the video lags while recording are really bad.
Here a random unedited testvideo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NbXSOsVaE0
At the end theres no sound which probably results from the freezing where no sound is recorded.
Therefore the video is longer than the recorded sound.
I just checked and firmware is up to date, battery was full & taskkiller emptied RAM before recording.
Hope there is a fix incoming

there is a known bug in the video recording of the arc, check some other threads on here. It has been reported to S.E so hopefully they will release a patch to solve the problem.
Is the sound on playback alot better than the X10? Because the X10 sounds pretty damn bad! Like im in a tin can.

P.S. The stabilization is ON

Well, with stabilization on you get distortion as the frame moves, but it's hardly noticeable. Beats a jerky video.

It destroys the image with to much compression. Usually ends up with a more blurry pic.
But im speaking from the Xperia X10, not the Arc. But I could only assume its the same as of now.
ive just replaced the memory card on my arc to a 16gb kingston class 4.....seems marginally better with regards to video stutter...need to run a few more tests first though.

Yeah that a **** video dude..I ve got the same problem..The video lags a lot..I dont know whether there is a solution..hopefully a 3rd party app??
My mum told me to record my little brother's rehearsal for the regional artistic cycling tournament (he got silver btw ) cuz she was at work .The vid lagged so badly, also with the 5 sec freezing and some random 1 sec freezing. The whole performance is only about 10 min. I tried with and without image stabilization and some other settings as I was desperate to get it recording. In the end I asked my brother to do it again and used the milestone(Droid) from the coach to record it.
I have the fragments of the recording on my arc if anyones interested
Not that I care much of the performance as its his first year, but my mum was angry and laughing at my phone.
Bottom line: Awesome cam but useless videorecording.
Sony should come up with something..Video recording is ****.. :S
Hi all!
I apologise if already discussed, but can't find anything after searching within xda-app and google.
I am very happy with my SGS2 in general and consider it to be the best phone so far on the market (maybe apart from sgs2 hd), and therefore expect it's performance to be superior to most phones/pda's. I was watching a youtube clip on iPod Touch 4 the other day which I normally do on my Galaxy, and was so impressed with the sharpness and vividity that I decided to compare thse two side by side. And what a disappointment! Although the Galaxy offers more saturated colours and higher contrast due to OLED's blacks, the sharpness was nowhere near iPods Retina. And personally for me it completely ruins the whole visual experience.
Don't get me wrong, I was aware of the lower resolution (not helped by bigger screen size) before even purchasing SGS2. But I guess this poor youtube experience further highlighted it. I do realize it's probably due to some limitations within the YT app not allowing high enough resolution, and the might be a solution to overcome it that I'm not aware of. By the way I used the stock YT app asa well as the one called RollTube that allows you to download videos. Connection is WiFi 12mbps and videos whatched are HD quality.
Am I the only one bothered by the slightly lower resolution of the SGS2's display? I don't know whether it's over 300ppi but I can clearly tell the difference in sharpness in side by side comparison to Retina looking at the same image. Please let me know what you think folks, and if you know how to fix the YouTube problem that'd be fantastic!

i thought the same as you...i thought my retina display was ten times better than the Galaxy s2 one...but after spending a few months with the the phone i would not change it for the world....i was playing the other day with my friends iphone 4 and il be honest my one is better....youtube videos mine are pretty clear but probably due to the high resolution on the iphone it will loook sharper...but everyone to their own tastes i say
Iphone has higher ppi than in sgs2 which i think is the cause..
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Yea, i got this same problem, and posted in many forums about it, but obviously no one care about YT?!... The problem is not related to higher resolution on ipod/iphone retina. The same video, downloaded to the phone from Tubemate with highest res is amazing. And on HTC Sensation the things looks awesome too! So my gues is that the youtube app(SGS2), does not play videos in HQ with the highest posible resolution. And for me, for some reason, the playback itself is sometimes choppy, like not enough buffering or something?!!...This choppiness is common for me on every rom i've tried after 2.3.3, no matter custom or stock! The question is why nobody talk about that roblem? I got answers that there is no problem with playback from any forum i search. Are all those people blind, or they don't watch hq videos?
The choppines might be due to the network speed. The playback for me is very smooth.
I am pretty sure the low res is the YT app limitation. A full HD video file when downloaded to pc is around 50-100MB, whereas downloaded to the handset the same video is only 10-15MB. Obviously it is a compressed file with lower resolution. Same applies for viewing.

Obviously it is. But noone seem to be bothered, perhaps because not much can be done other than changing handset.
But the Youtube problem is software related and can be overcome.

No man, my files are just about 50-150MB when downloaded on the phone, and they are with stunning quality! And i use same WiFi network as on my PC, so there is no way that be the problem.Besides choppiness is present only in 2.3.4 or higher, not 2.3.3? Obviously this is some kind of limitation in the app, but why just on sgs2, not others? As i said, on Sensation, the problem doesn't exists? On IOS too? Did Google knows that this device is capable of more that they think? This problem drives me crazy since day 1, and shouldn't be ignored! 600$ on the phone and no quality Youtubes? WTF!?!
Actually, you know what? I've just managed to download a proper HD file using the app you mentioned (Tubemate) and despite the bigger screen size it wasn't easy yo spot the difference in the resolution of SGS2 vs Retina. Samsung have done a good job by adding some subpicsels to make up for low ppi. It's the icons where you still can spot the difference relatively easily.
If our app developers could make one that would allow an HD YouTube playback AND the download option in the same app I'm sure people would be willing to pay for it!

I've finaly found what causing the choppiness. I flashed Siyah kernel, and used smartassv2 governor. What a surprise for me was to find out that playback was fine. The problem obviously was in the default cpu ondemand governor. In other words, the cpu scalling was somehow wrong?!... Unfortunately, the smartass governor, was no good to me for games, very poor frame rates.
Can someone tell me if the GS4 has a similar function like the HTC One (Zoe) that allows you to either take video or lots of stills
and go back later on and choose which you want to keep, rather when the photo is taken.
Thanks.
Rob.
Quick photos from galaxy s3 has been here some time. The phone will take many pics and you can choose the best. For video? im not so sure as I havnt had a chance to play with the samsung phones since the orignal back in 2007 or 8? -_-

Hello Guys. Sorry for my sloppy English.
I saw a video review said that S4 could only record slow motion video in 720P. so I check my ATT S4(I9505 hardware), but find that 800*450 is the only option for slow motion record.
So I post a thread about Galaxy S4 camera slow motion problem in a website form my country. from the feedback, people who has I9500 said their option is 720p while for those who has I9505, 800*450 instead.
So frustrated isn't it. Hope those XDAs who is able to enhance the model could put a hand on this,
All of our I9505 users will really appreciate that, Or should we make a bounty? I will put 30$ on it.
Personally, although i am sure the hardware is capable, its a feature that is a novelty. I'm not sure any dev would look at this possibility but you never know.

While it hasn't been confirmed yet, most sources seem to point out that the i9505 has a Sony IMX091PQ sensor which is Exmor R, while the i9500 is confirmed to have a Sony IMX135 sensor which is Exmor RS (the newest model with stacked cmos).
That's probably why pictures taken by the i9500 variant are also more detailed and less noisy than those from the i9505.

Wow, this really sucks. It's one of my favorite features. There are several videos where the slow motion is really choppy and skips a lot, see here:
https://youtu.be/Ozmq051Bqo4

And then we have a perfectly smooth and what looks like higher res slow motion video from a user here who owns the exynos version:

What in the world is going on?
I really hope this is not staying this way. It is annoying. Saturday i will get my Exynos, i will test and let you know the results.

This is from my T-Mobile S7 (Snapdragon). I've noticed AF tracking is not working properly if not at all when capturing Slo-Mo. A quick tap of the object on your screen will re-focus.
Side note: YouTube really destroys the quality of the videos at 720p.
