This is weird, whenever i open the internet app, my screen dims... when i close it, it goes back to the brightness it was before, anyone know why this happens?
The browser has its own brightness setting I believe. Look for it in the options.
Thanks, that was it.

If I am in the text messaging screen in landscape mode, and close the phone into portrait mode, the screen does not completely rotate.
The top portion of the screen switches, and the bottom menu bar switches, but there is a section about 1/3 the size of the screen that remains in landscape mode until I close the text message program.
It only does it in texting, no other programs cause this problem with the screen, and it has only started doing it since I hard reset the phone.
Any help??
Yeah, texting does some strange stuff for me too. Sometimes when I push the button to select the contact i want to text it takes quite awhile for it to bring up the texting screen. And yes, same as you on the switching from landscape.
hmm.... That's wierd. I cant seem to find anything else relating to this problem
i am having the same problem also.. but recently it stopped.. idk wuts going on?
well, i figured out what the problem was with mine. It was doing it because I hacked the registry for the SIP to completely kill the pop-up keyboard. After re-enabling it, no more screen issue.
Has anyone figured out how to extend the timer on the keyboard or are there any tools out there that will make the light stay on longer? The one second is really annoying.
Sorry if this question has been posted some where else used the search and looked through several pages.
giving this post a bump, as it really annoys me too.
im getting good at tapping the trackball to light up the keyboard. although sometimes it scrolls around and its annoying.
the worst part, is that i can slide my keyboard open, and before the screen can refresh and rotate and show me the text message box, the keyboard light is off.
epic fail on the testers part imo
download power manager, you can set the time there
I still can't get the keyboard to stay on. What setting is it in power manager.
Qtronix
You have to go to the profile you want the keyboard light on in and edit it.
For example, go to the battery profile and edit it by either long pressing it or by selecting it with the trackball then pressing MENU->edit.
They keyboard light option is available in the stay awake->while keyboard is open setting.
Sweet.... Thanks!
I don't use power manager. I have no use for it and use Toggle Settings to change my profiles.
Does anyone know of any other app or a script that can be run that will change the setting?
I just want the light to stay on as long as the hardware keyboard is open!
Are there any tweaks/apps that allow you to tailor the backlight's behaviour depending on what app you are using and set it up to suit each one?
I can't find anything like that but the reason I'm asking is as follows.
I want the backlight to stay on indefinitely when I have adobe reader open, but I don't want it to stay on indefinitely for anything else.
I read ebooks in adobe reader and it has no setting for this, so you either have to change the overall backlight settings to stay on then change them afterwards or just put up with constantly having to touch the screen to get the backlight on again.
What I'd like ideally is something almost like the Changescreen app (for rotation) where you can choose the apps you want and set how the backlight behaves when each app is in use.
Is there anything that does this? Or have I overlooked some really basic way of doing it?
Cheers
You can try Lumos: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=450318
Thanks mate - that could be just the ticket.
Bah - tried to install it and as soon as I click it I get a "Installation Unsuccessful" error.
I'm on a custom rom but I forget which...
Bugger - looks like it could have been perfect.
Hmmm, I've installed Glight now to try that out but I can't get it to work for some reason.
It's enabled.
The phone's own auto backlight control is disabled.
I've added adobereaderle.exe as an exception and set it so it keeps the backlight on permanently.
I've done soft reset.
But it still switches off after a minute or two. I am talking about the backlight also, not the phone's standby. Ie with an acrobat doc open the light turns off after a minute or two then the phone goes into standby shortly afterwards. I guess ideally an app that deals with this would also be able to prevent standby for specific apps too.
Have I got the correct filename for Adobe reader or is there something else I've messed up? That's what I saw it as on the phone somewhere (I forget where but that's definitely what was written).
It will be nice obviously if I can make this work but I have to be honest and say that using Glight is a horrible user experience. It's a case of tapping the screen and waiting a few seconds for every single response. When you're trying to position the cursor in the exact right spot (ie to edit text or a typo etc) on the capacitive touchscreen with your finger this can take many screen taps, and it's pretty frustrating! But better that than nothing obviously!
I'm interested in this too. I tried Lumos and it works as for setting the backlight for certain apps (like max. brightness for Adobe Reader etc.), however it still doesn't prevent the phone going into standby, which is the main problem when trying to read something.

I have the backlight set to automatically adjust, but when I am using my phone in the dark, I like it fixed at 10%.
Rather than going through 6 screens to manually update it every time, I would love it if someone could come up with a button (like the WiFi switch on windows market place), so that I can just hit a shortcut on the today screen and the auto adjust is toggled on and off.
The registry entry that turns the auto adjust on or off is called
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight and the key is Light Detect On
Any pointers or help would be appreciated!
you can make a link that opens the backlight page directly.
see the "control panel items" link in my sig.
not quite a toggle but reduces the clicks to 2.
Just made a request thread for this yesterday

Think it would be a good quicklink for sense

To be honest, I saw your thread back along and didn't quite get it. I do now though!
Can't wait to get home from work and try this. Not a complete solution, but it will certainly save me a load of hassle.
Thanks!
with ya pal!
what gets me is the sensor, when its dark its at full brightness, when its light its dim...... shouldn't this be the other way round?
I have a program like a stopwatch that I need to be able to see what time it has, but the screen goes black whenever you don't touch the phone after a while. The program itself doesn't have this option, but is there other programs that will allow you to customize which programs CAN do this?
bump.........
I think if change the back light settings you should be able to achieve what you are looking for!
Start/Settings/Sound & Display/Backlight there will you find the settings you need!

No, that would do it for all programs thereafter. I'm looking for something so it'll know specifically which programs to do it for.
I've wondered this as well but never came up with anything... Backlight settings do not have a 'Stay Continuously On' option.
I want to leave the screen on while playing Slacker radio with my HD2 connected to a desktop cradle but the screen always dims
Perhaps there is a registry tweak?? The search continues...
+1, gets annoying for bejewled. =)
i would love this fix
KeepAwake works great for this
