I'm honestly not sure where to post this, I found it on another forum (and that post was made about three hours ago). In any case, Samsung appears to have open sourced the stock firmware and kernel for Straight Talk's version of the Galaxy S II.
If you go to http://opensource.samsung.com/ and search of the model number - SGH-S959G - it's the only thing that comes up. The download appears to be just what it says, the uncompiled source code.
I've been looking for stock ever since I bought this phone and since I'm not exactly green when it comes to Linux and using a terminal, I'm tempted to give a crack at compiling this myself. Anybody have any experience with this? It can't be too hard...right? :silly:

You won't get the stock firmware by compiling the kernel, mate. Why do you want stock when you already have stock (original) firmware? If you're looking for unbranded, you're unlikely to find it as you have a carrier specific phone.

I'm aware of how this source code works!
IndigoAK I am the one that posted the link on AA51. The file appears to be in tar.gz format like what is used for install through odin. I have not tested it, as I am not a developer, or in need of flashing to factory firmware at this time. I posted it as I seen many people looking for it. I believe it is needed to be able to safely start making modifications for this phone, CWM, Root, custom ROMs, ect., and being able to flash back to stock if something goes wrong. Hopefully with the information out there now it will jump start development.
Edit: After further research the source code files are used to create the firmware, and these cannot be installed through Odin. Feel free to correct me if I'm still wrong.

I probably should have linked to your post. I apologize.
I just thought that posting it here on XDA might get it seen by more people who might know how to put this to use.
Hopefully somebody does put it to use. Due to the way that Straight Talked has gimped this phone, it's going to take the community to really make it worth the price they're charging for it.
I tried to link to the original post on android area 51, but as a new member I am not allowed, yet. I am just trying to get information out there, so thank you for posting it here (as I just now joined). The phone is fairly new and under advertised, but hopefully these posts will stir interest.
I was looking under the battery cover and noticed the FCC id for this phone (SGH-S959G) is A3L SGH I777. Now for everyone smarter than I. Does this mean that the phone is an i777, and would all the mods and ROMs ect. be directly compatible. Also its android 2.3.6. Version s959g UDLG1. Kernel 2.6.35.7. Any thoughts, educated opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

No.
Everything needs to be modified. The I777 rooting method works for this device, but nobody has been able to get past that as far as I'm aware. I've lost count of the number of times I've had to double reboot my phone trying to install every custom recovery image (and searching around suggests this is the case for a lot of other people) I can get my hands on and I've kept a pretty close eye on custom firmware sites - none of them have added support for this device (probably because you can't install a custom recovery image yet).
Guys I have the same problem, I tried to root my Straight Talk Galaxy SII using the AT&T root but CWM doesn't install and the root breaks the Wifi, Contacts save option, several apps like YouTube. I cannot revert back to the stock ROM due to this issue and I really could use the help.. I'm surprised that DEV teams haven't done much on the phone considering for 45 dollars a month you get really fast 7mb/s speed.
I'm willing to do whatever I can to contribute to a way of finally getting this awesome phone off of a sucky stock rom.
Thanks everyone!
I was just curious if it could be fully flashed to stock i777 GB. As it appears to be the exact same hardware. Completely start over making it the at&t i777.

No. I tried this.
Also, if your WiFi doesn't work, you probably used the Zedomax kernal. Search XDA for Entropy's kernel and use that instead.
LOOKIN. For Fully Rooted .. Samsung Galaxy s2. Sgh-s959g From Straight Talk. FLASHED a kernel dat when loading. Tells me its a sgh-i9100 ... has a ... ! ...triangle under it...and when I check the info on bout phone. It says sgh-i777.. any links for the best FULLY ROOTED kernels GB?.. PS. Willing to do testing with this phone from straight talk. But has. Att kernel.. one from. Entropy! !! Thanks
Hi guys, I'm totally new, as in I know not a thing about rooting or changing the ROM or anything, and after 1.5 years of owning this on stock android, it's time to take the plunge and see what ROMs are efficient and fast.
From what I heard, the ROM is like the OS. Do I need to Root in order to change the ROM? If yes, how long does it take? If not, how long does it take?
That's it for now, I am interested in the newest and fastest ROMs, I think CM 10 was one of them which I was looking at.
Yes you need to be rooted... you can search in Google on how to root the nexus as though I highly recommend going to 'nexus s hacks' website for a good tutorial  and yes I do suggest cm10 with Marmite kernel

Thank you! Is it a quick process? Or will it take hours? And, are there any cons to switching to a new ROM?

The pros are that u can customize ur phone any way u want and u get rid if the unwanted junk apps that ur cell provided makes u have when u get a phone... its called bloatware! Custom ROMs speed up ur phone and once u get used to it, then u can add a better kernel and other tweaks that will keep u and ur friends in awe.
Its a quick process.... less than 30 minutes
But
read, read and read some more.
Ur only as good as the info u read and understand cuz if u flash(install) an improper ROM then ur phone is dead!
So Google some searches for ur phone only and read of possible errors & tips so u know where to look in case u screw up.... cuz we all do screw up.
Roms: look at the development section and see what ROM interest U. I wouldn't flash a different kernel until U actually know what one is. And dont be to concerned with themes until u pick a stable ROM cuz some ROMs already come themed.
Good luck and do not take some of the smartalics or jerks on these threads to serious.... they mean well but are just tired of the same new Rooter's ignorant questions they just forgot that they were once new to all this.
And if someone does help u then hit the "thanks" button below the reply since some of these guys need them or it just makes them feel better about using their time to actually reply to ur needs. I myself can care less for them but I've read enough that some developers need them for status and money backing to their ROM's development hard work and time.

You can also use a one-click-root tool. This will root your phone with your just one click. Its as easy as that. I highly recommend you to Google that as well. I used this as well as the method described on http://www.nexusshacks.com.
WARNING 1: UNLOCKING YOUR BOOTLOADER WILL ERASE ALL DATA ON YOUR MEMORY. MAKE A BACKUP OF YOU MOST IMPORTANT STUFF!!! You will have to unlock your bootloader only once. afterwards, you can flash as many ROMs as you wish to, without losing any of your data on the storage.
WARNING 2: Be prepared to get heavily addicted to XDA

Thank you!!
I am extremely busy with school.. hopefully I find the time (a couple of hours) to root my phone and get a new ROM running..
And hopefully I don't get ADDICTED!! Haha!! But I have a feeling I will..
So, once I unlock the bootloader, and flash a new ROM, everything else is erased right, and I start from scratch? My contacts are the only thing saved on my SIM card/Google account?
And secondly..what ROM do you guys recommend, the one I am looking towards is CM 10, it is the latest and that's the one I've heard the most when it comes to ROMs..

Yeah its all erased. I use Google voice for backing up all my texts, voicemail call log etc... its also a great way to never miss a text or call... just go online or open up the app.
Backup ur files to ur computer and then root. Then put back ur media files... music, movies & pics.
Always sync Google acct b4 flashing and
I recommend the newest slimbean 3.0 also since it has everything including a great kernel.
Happy flashing

don't worry...being a crack flasher is not a crime.. LOL
welcome to the rooted Nexus company then....
don't forget to backup all your datas before doing all rooting processes
for some reason CM10 Nightly 11-23 version + matr1x v24.0 (OC'd @ 1320mhz) is the FASTEST combination for my i9023 so far.
Temple Run Brave doesn't lag at all.
After 6 years with iPhone Operating System my 3GS left me and took the kids so here I'm enjoying this brave new world.
6 hours stuck with stock
At first I got cm10 thinking that was already 4.2 because I used gapps 4.2

I've had my NS for a year or so now...and I thought very long before finally taking the plunge to root & flash Althought I have only flashed 2 different custom ROMs so far, I am constantly looking for furthermore to enhance my phone. Initially I only wanted to root to get to overclock my phone and for BLN access, since my only grudge with the NS was that it didn't have the notification LED. But now I'm totally absorbed by the various extra settings and customisations that these custom ROMs bring with them
I haven't used a 1-Click tool for rooting so the initial process to unlock the bootloader & root took me quite some time...but after that flashing the ROMs and kernels is only a matter of minutes. I definitely recommend it!

Totally agree with you on this. My only regret is that i should have made this jump much earlier .
I was also unhappy about no notification lights on the Nexus S. I just tried the CM 10 ROM and was surprised that the touch keys light up for notifications.
ROM better Stock
I prefer use custom rom (4.2 for nexus S) because reactivity and performances are better.
Why use 1GHz phone when you can have 1,4GHz....?
Custom rom = Customisation
With custom rom you can custom all in your device
And you can have the latest version of android

have issues with the ota updater as soon as i root my device. The moment i do that i get the message that my device has been changed and i cannot use the updater then. if i flash stock withouth root i don't have this issue.
reckon its best to make a backup of your apps with TB or any similar program when the official update is available, then flash back stock (no root) and update, afterwards simply restore your normal (non-system) apps and your ready

To answer you and the gentleman above... Australia will probably be the last country on earth to get the update as usual. So we might have to reside to getting it of some kind developer who uploads it here somewhere.
If you do wish to get updates you should go back to stock firmware (probably the first backup you made for your telstra 4.1.2) doesn't matter if it's rooted. Connect your phone to the PC and have KIES installed. Click update firmware and update (done, it will automatically unroot your phone and put back the stock recovery). You can easily update after that.
If anyone finds any android 4.3 working please update us here as soon as you can with a link to the page. If I find a working ROM for the official android 4.3 TW ROM I'll post it here too.

Well now...I've been holding off playing with rooting my phone (as I'm new to 'droid and have an awful lot to learn, but have come a LONG way in 2 weeks) as I was expecting Telstra to release an update. Since that appears NOT to be forthcoming, Ill consider the various root options, none of which are particularly appealing at the moment mainly as it seems no-one has a stock ROM for this phone online and I can't backup mine without root. Catch 22 it seems. Information on locked bootloaders, Telstra ROM mods, rooting the 7105 "T" version is VERY limited
So...if anyone happens to have a link for a ROM copy please let me know.
(Or info on a rooting technique that works)
Ultimately every one on xda will be using the custom 4.3 rom for the note 3 goodies because Samsung will not be releasing those features in it's official release

Okay I will explain what I done for you...
When I first rooted my Galaxy Note 2 in May, I was a new-comer to android, I had an iPhone for a long time. What I done was root my phone, I Odin installed TWRP after rooting because I really don't like CWM (those are the names of the 'recoveries' available), they will replace the default Samsung recovery. Just make sure you get TWRP. I think it's up to TWRP 2.6.3
Well yeah let's get back to the topic, as soon as I rooted I used TWRP to make a backup of my default Telstra ROM (completely with EFS, MODEM, basically tick everything you can possibly backup).
I took that backup and put it on my laptop and on my PC and I kept a copy on my external card the whole time. That was the best idea, any time I ever had any problems with my phone I went back to that backup. I even soft bricked my phone once and after hours of panicking I realised I can just Re-install the default backup, and it fixed my phone.
Oh and I just recently un-rooted my phone to check for updates. All I done was use SuperSU to do an UNROOT. Then went into recover, restored the original backup I made of the Telstra ROM. Plugged my phone into the PC, and used Samsung KIES to check for firmware update. It just restarted my phone, removed TWRP recovery, re-installed the samsung one, and it removed the root completely and I'm basically went back to my original telstra ROM. I can go into settings and check for updates and everything. (I can confirm there is no update as of yet).
AS for your other QUESTION.
ALL THE ROMS in the N7105 Section will WORK with your N7105T Model. It's the same thing. JUST WATCH OUT and make sure you never install N7100 ROMS (They will soft-brick and could hard-brick your phone).
Thanks for the input.
I've been considering between 3, namely CF AutoRoot, Galaxy Note Toolkit And (exploit based) Framaroot, with a bias towards Toolkit so far ( as it specifies the 7105 "T" variant).
But if you've actually ODINed a GT-7105T (Telstra) with CWP without issues, I'll certainly consider that.
Any one else care to chime in on this (if you've done the same phone/telco only though !)
I've come far enough to understand rooting, boot processes, CWM/TWRP, exploits AND the importance of picking the exact model !
I'll take the plunge when I get enough input to decide.

It's not that hard really, you can't really mess it up if you follow the instructions... Hey root it whichever way you see fit, whatever you think is easier for you, don't listen to me. But I do highly recommend you get TWRP for backing up and formatting and installing your ROMS. Also I recommend PAC-MAN it's a good ROM, but it's not very stable at the moment (kind of).

Sammobile: 4.3 is rolling out for the S3.
Thank you for the forum!
Since this is the "new" S4 I'm very happy that it has it's home now.
I got mine as a surprise after throwing my "old" I9505 in the wall and breaking it in half in a post-op amnesia so it was a nice early Christmas gift
So where do we start? If you look at GSM-Arena: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=5542&idPhone2=5665
It's very close to Note 3. It's so close that I think that they make it in the same production line. That is logical to cut the costs.
There are obvious things that makes them different but really not that much as core-hardware.
Note 3
3 gig ram. It can do record video with a notch higher density, but is that hardware or software? I'm guessing the later.
I9506
I noticed that the cam has focus-problems when I tried to do my bills today (that has QR-codes so you don't have to type them).
It had trouble with near focus. I tried with my HTC One X that focused it much better.
The only thing is if the Knox has an e-fuse but we will soon be aware of that. In that case there will be problems. For Samsung.
What more?
It doesn't have the Wifi-bug that Note 3 has. I don't know if that has anything to do with the 4.3 or not?
Does anybody know about Wifi-problems with 4.3 with the i9505?
The bug is that it considers the Wifi being "poor connection quality" and disconnects. While you stand next to the router.
I tried that on 3 at home, went back to the shop and it worked there flawlessly. Figure.
So that bug is something we don't want to introduce here since I'm guessing we need to blend some code form Note 3?
So basically it's a damn rocking phone. It's a pocket Note 3 and I think we can do amazing stuff with it.
I did an Antutu on original TouchWiz (has only rooted it) and got almost the same score as Note 3.
I know, it doesn't say that much but it's a measure of SOME kind. If not qualitative then at least quantitative.
So since I have a Note 3 as well (damn saleman). I was supposed to give one of them in my family but I think they will get my Htc One X
So the benefit is that I can test stuff on both. I don't care about flags, Knox or not. I have a green light from my cell-provider.
"Don't Duck up our cell-net and no warranty if you brick your phone by software" so a bit of precaution and nothing wreckless maybe?
So. How do I build a custom rom? I need a "Custom rom for Dummies" here
I don't even know if there is Kernel-source to start with? Do Samsung disclose that or do they don't give a damn as usual?
/Absie

Hey there, i love your enthusiasm and that there is someone who is willing to dev . I dont know how its in other countries but here in germany my gt-i9506 is still running 4.2.2 and not 4.3. I hope some people will help you out as im not really able to.

Yes i am also intressted in building rom... Just asop s4 google edition would be very nice!
*edit. Miui would also be nice!
From what I have seen by reading threads on rom building, it could be as easy as building a rom for the the i9505 and then replacing some binaries from a Note 3 rom (or vice versa).
Scrosler in the Nexus7 area gives a pretty good noob guide to building.
I am reading up on XDA-university and CM porting guides at the moment.
Hello guys
First of all nice to see that some of you want do something for the I9506 same like me but i think we need cm support otherwise its not easy to port roms...
Well here are some answers for the questions.
1. Yes it is same s800 processor like in Note 3 wich is supporting LTE+ 150Mbit
2. The wifi bug on Note 3 is Firmware related since you have it
3. All countrys where you can get a I9506 got 4.2.2 Firmware.
There isnt 4.3 Firmware out for I9506 currently but in near future it will since the S4 is on Samsung update list to 4.3
4. Source for I9506 is already out: http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=search&searchValue=GT-I9506
So CM devs have to grab it and support our device
5. Knox?... Since i can read here our device is ready or has already Knox: http://www.samsung.com/de/consumer/mobile-device/mobilephones/smartphones/GT-I9506ZKADTM
Well we will get it atleast with next update 4.3 cause its not in bootloader currently ... i can see only the Knox app ... but i dont care it
6. The well known dsixda's Kitchen i allready tried but our device is currently not supported http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246
7. There is also the AOSP Paranoid Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1863547 wich can be ported but i didnt tested since it didnt worked with dsixda's Kitchen for me
There are much more but the base of all is CM! So please sign here if you didnt allready

I've used SamsungCamera2.apk from Note3 on my SHV-E330S(same as I9506) and UHD video works right "out of the box" No any patches required, except some patch from Note 3 community to remove record time limit.
Just some precaution: I'm using 4.3 firmware on SHV-E330S, while I9506 has no 4.3 yet. So, i think you have to wait for 4.3 first and then can use Note3 camera.
Update: actually UHD resolution is already supported by stock E330S camera, but isn't enabled in APK. I've just enabled and it works fine.
PLEASE READ THIS!!!
Let's make a rom! (question)
Its been moved by Mod to general Forum so thats why i post the link for it!
Cheers

How did you enable it?
Stock ROM
Is there a backed up stock ROM available? I've wiped out my device and Kies no longer recognizes it and I need a stock rom to be back to life

S4+ (GT-I9506) System Image.
Ok. Here we are, born to be free (Knox Free). Absalon asked me to give you guys something special. Well, I'll give to you guys still running 4.2.2, - 1 link to my Google drive. You are required to flash with Odin v.1.85. This will be a totally stock XXUAMJ2 system image just ROOTED, the KNOX **** removed and odexed...:good:
Install Chainfire's SuperSU, and some kind of BusyBox.:good:
You can't use CF's Mobile Odin ATM, our model is not supported and that's why I made this pre-rooted system image.
You can now remove/freeze whatever you want, with whatever app you like. I have freezed down 73 apps on my S4+
Try to install CF's Triangle Away and see the result. Funny, not even my S3-LTE shows that kind of info.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Argh...my S3-LTE running low battery...switching to my S4+
Ok back in business. Right now I'm on the Odexed version of the software I'm gonna give you. Seems perfect.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6he3hscczvdMFR1UmZXeVpDM1U/edit?usp=sharing
Click / copy link and download.
This is the normal odex version. Unpack with zip and it will give you 1 file named SGS-4_Firmware.tar.md5, now flash with Odin v1.85!
Fire up Odin, select PDA!!! and browse to the unpacked file, named: SGS-4_Firmware.tar.md5
Make sure that: Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time are ticked! Nothing else.
Get your phone to download mode: From Phone OFF, press the volume down+home+power buttoms at the same time and will you get to download mode or use a USB jig, I use one from the god old Galaxy S2 days.
Connect USB cable to PC and you should be ready to go.
Press start and wait....after some time your phone will reboot, you are now rooted, running totallty odexed 4.2.2 stock.
If you have already rooted your phone any other way, you might get cunstom/modifed...just tell me and I'll make an Odin flash file with stock Kernel and this PDA.
If you like this, please thank me :good:
Next will be be De-Odexed version.
Ok here comes the De-Odexed version:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LINK REMOVED, due to a problem with the SecContacts app.
It just don't like DeOdexed version.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you don't know anything about all these things....don't do anything, READ and learn. It took me about 2 1/2 years to get in to this stuff...I'm 52 now...
Ok guys, please let me know how it turns out!
See ya' all.
Best regards

New Edit:
Forgot to tell you, the image is the based on: XXUAMJ2 PDA....
No modem or csc (cache) included.
And not to forget...thanks to Chainfire for providing the SU file! Without him, this had not been possible.

THIS thread will get you rooted. THIS thread will help you get to 4.4.2. Lastly, THIS thread will show you what to change to prevent the OTAs. Just read through them and be sure you understand what you're doing before starting. It is pretty simple, take your time and if you have questions don't be afraid to ask.

Thank you, so far I have root (yay) safestrap installed, for the first time ever haha, and i just blocked the ota for now, will work on KK tonight. I think its time for a drink, samsung is confusing as hell, im assuming since I used kingo for root and it booted up custom that I tripped the knox security right?

No you did not trip Knox, that just means you're rooted. You can install THIS app to get rid of the "custom" icon. Just install it and hit "reset flash counter" then reboot.
There is also a free version here.

Thanks guys, this has been kinda a hellish conversion to sammy from moto as everything is different especially with root and flashing I honestly hate touch whiz yet love some of the features, wish i could toggle off the damn notification widget the small one and huge one and have stock 4.3/4.4 bar up there I like how on stock it shows my google acct and other stuff
Ok im having a problem, when trying to flash KK
- Install De-Odexed or Odexed NC2 zip or Baja Rom KKv1 (from sdcard) (Keep your eyes open for additional 4.4.2 Roms)
I downloaded the de-odexed nc2 that 1.6 gb file, dragged the zip to my sd, boot into recovery, wipe internal and the file is nowhere to be found on my SD, not sure whats going on really. It seems like everything keeps disappearing.
Nevermind, The thread needs to be edited to tell people to ONLY put it on the internal memory, external Never worked for me tried 10 times downloading and transferring, in phone and my macbook sd card slot (i am not using OSX to do this i am using Windows 8.1)
Awesome thread I will be getting a replacement note 3 hopefully Tuesday and I am completely new to samsung more of a htc person. .. but happy I got the note 3

You should like it a lot, Its somewhat confusing from motorola but I got the hang of it, would like that first reply to have a sticky labled "Dummies Come here, THIS IS HOW TO ROOT, SS, UPDATE TO 4.4, AND Stop OTA" The only problem was like what I said earlier use internal mem, honestly I recommend removing your SD if you have one in because theirs a wipe option and it doesn't seem like its that hard to accidentally hit.

Just the stock nc2 deodexed, i only chose deodexed because it is more mod friendly if i decide to ever do anything, odexed is supposedly faster but I have not noticed a difference since android reached over 800mhz single core other then boots take a little bit longer, honestly now all I need is to find the sd card permissions fix for KK and im good
