I rooted Nook Color 1.2.
The Android Market place is installed and I can access the Market.
However, unable to download and install any apps as the Nook Color is not recognized correctly. When I checked the settings in the Market place settings the it displays "Unknown device".
How can I fix this and get the Market place to recognize the Nook Color properly?
Hello everyone. I have nook color which is rooted running the latest CM7 nightly on internal memory. I tried to download Word with friend for the android market and noticed that the Download button was missing. I went though the web site and I was given the message "Device Not Compatible". I have had a similar problem downloading the Netflix app. It doesn't even show up in my market, I have to install the apk myself. I know there is a Build.prop file I can adjust but it doesn't effect the market. Any thoughts? Thank in advanced.
Also my device shows up in the android market web site as BN Nook color
The market is now "device aware" so if the Nook is not supported (or basically tested to work with the Nook) by the developer it will either not show up or the download button will be greyed out. You either have to sideload an .apk or mask the Nook as a different device.
Once in a while, I can't download certain apps to my CM7 NC. I don't know why.
For instance, USA Today won't download on my NOOK
Change your lcd density
Are you running your device at a strange lcd density? that might have something to do with it. Try changing it to something like 240 and then changing it back.

I have registered my Nook Color by using serial number of the device on nook developer site. I'm able to view the extras tab but the issue is that it doesn't show the NookColor Tools option. (Kindly refer the attached screenshot).
What i did next is to mail a copy of application's apk file on my email address and opened the mail from device's browser. I download it and then during installation, I get the option of Package Installer. When I select it and press "Install", I get the following error message: "For security reasons, only apps purchased through the NOOK Shop can be installed".
The reason behind this might be I have not checked the option which allows to install Non-market apps (which is available inside NookColor Tools and I'm not getting NookColor Tools Icon on my device UI).
Can anyone guide me as to how to install the APK file and not getting the security error mentioned above?
Extras? That does not sound like a Nook Color. That sounds like a Nook HD. And that screen shot looks like an HD. Are you sure you have a Color? If you don't, you are in the wrong thread. If you have a Nook HD, then look at my HD/HD+ Tips thread linked in my signature.
If you have a Nook Color, use the Manual Nooter 5.08.20 to root it and get Play Store to install apps.

I'm pretty sure that I'm using Nook Color only (I get that from About Device tab in settings).
Also, Screenshot is taken from my device only.
Extras are part of Nook Color also. Why would I need to root the device in order to get Play Store as I have the apk file of app I have developed and it's not on play store.
Can you suggest anything/any links for this issue?

What does the about device say the model number is?
You need to do Manual Nooter because it does more than root. It adds Play Store, Nook Color Tools, zeam launcher, and allows unknown sources.
If you don't want to do Manual Nooter, you can set up ADB and sideload install your app. But if it is a Nook Color, you need to provision it first per the instructions in the Nook Developer site.

Model Number: BNRV200
Software Version: 1.4.3
And I have completed the provisioning procedure and copied the provision file to root folder. Still I'm getting "extras" screen as shown in above thumbnail.

Have you tried connecting ADB? If you get ADB working, the next step is to install the Nook Color Tools app by typing "ADB install NookColorTools.apk" at the command prompt from the folder where you have the app. Then you can go to extras and nct should be there. You can install any app this way. I would recommend another launcher next.

By don't get anything, what do you mean? Unrecognized command or an empty device list. Do you have android debugging turned on? Go to the Nook developers site to see how to set up ADB.
I don't know why you don't do it the easy way with Manual Nooter.

I've successfully rooted, gotten things set up, and gotten the searchmarket app going.
The guides for nook glowlight all suggest certain softwares that seem to have a minimum OS higher than the Nook Glow. I found an older versions apk file and attempted to install via EX File Explorer (it has root access. Just browsing and selecting the file). I was given an error message that Barnes and Noble locked out that functionality, it was referring to installing nonmarket apps.
I've tried googling but seem to be gettiling infor for the nook tablet.... a completely different tldevice.
I cant seem to figure out how to get into the android settings either.
How can i load apks to this device? I'd prefer not to have to use adb.

What "softwares"? You need to find and apk for android 2.1+. If you get a message "error, older SDK", you have the wrong version of the apk.

never heard of this. Please post the exact message.
Your search engine was right. You have to use Nook Color Tools. Put it in /system/app/ and after you run it, unselect the "install non market applications" button and than selet it again.
