Warning!!! Do not put Dload folder on internal SD to upgrade/downgrade!!! - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

This is especially important for those of you downgrading from 2.3 to 2.2:
1)How do you access the pink screen?
Vol+ & Vol- & power
2) How do you install the update from the Dload folder?
Vol+ & Vol- & power
3) What if you bootloop and you need access to the pink screen so you can fix it?
Vol+ & Vol- & power
Wait, doesn't that install the update?
Point being, if you update from from internal sd card and it doesn't work, and you try to go back to the pink screen to fix it, then you may end just reinstalling the update again, and not be able to access the pink screen. After installing the update, it's supposed to put a log file in there so it won't install it again. Sometimes it doesn't see the log and decides to update again. My log file had 12 attempted installed written to it.
It just happened to me, and I'm sure you don't want it to happen to you. I got lucky and after reinstalling the update 10+ times, one lucky time it loaded the pink screen and I went ubuntu and deleted the dload folder. If I hadn't gotten lucky and had ubuntu, my phone would've discovered a new kind of soft-brick.
Also for those of you wanting to downgrade, I suggest you have a ubuntu liveCD ready. It may come in handy for dealing with problems.

Your phone doesn't try install update from internal sdcard if you insert "external sdcard".

Mine still tried to install after I inserted an sd card. That was the first thing I thought of. I tried 3 different sd cards, and it took 10 tries to get it not to install. Maybe I have a hardware problem, but I still don't think it is worth the risk.

Stuck at G1 screen - read everything I could find

I have read and tried anything I could think of here.
I have downloaded RC29
Extracted the file to SD ccard formated to FAT32
Started up in Bootloader
Phone found the file and successfully installed
Pressed action button to reboot.
Stays in Tri color screen
I have tried the soft reset, but I am still stuck at the G1 screen.
I am not new to flashing and recovery, only to the G1. What am I missing?
Does it reboot and return to the tri-color screen, or not reboot at all? Did you try taking the sd card out and then rebooting?
The same thing happened to me, I downloaded rc29 to root my phone so I did the rooting and then I wanted to install the JF Rc33 update so I tried rebooting in recoveyr mode to install the update and my phone just got stuck in the G1 logo. It works on normal reboot but not in tecovery mode or when I press camera & power it takes me to a white screen with green letters and the little green android guy..... how can I fix that? I want the jf update. Is there any way of installing it without having to use recovery mode? Or is there anyway to fix recovery mode?
danguyf,
Thanks.
I just redid the RC29 boot off the SD card. Just to rule out some more issues, I formatted the card again (512mb Sandisk).
As soon as I hit the action button, I get the tri color bootloader screen.
I have tried:
removing the SD card PRIOR to pressing the action button
removing the SD card PRIOR to a soft boot (call, end menu).
I have been using a fully charged battery.

You need a WM phone to make a Goldcard and Qmat 2.24 if you use Windows.

Just so we are clear, these are the steps you followed???
1. Format your phone's SD card to FAT32 mode:
* Hook your phone up to your computer using a USB cable and then wait for the notification to show up in your title bar of your phone.
* Click the notification, and then click "Mount".
* A new removable disk should show up on your computer. Right click it and select Format, and select FAT32 as the file system type.
2. Download and unzip the RC29 or RC7 image file. Copy the DREAMIMG.nbh file to the SD card. (RC29 for US, RC7 is for UK)
3. Turn the device power off.
4. Hold Camera button, and press Power button to entry bootloader mode. You should see a gray/white screen with instructions to flash your phone with the update on your SD card. If you don't see that, make sure you followed the instructions properly.
5. As per the on-screen instructions, press the Power button to start upgrade procedure. DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS.
6. After it is finished, perform the restart your phone.
The phone is not mine. It came in to us to recover. It came in frozen on the G1 screen, so I cannot perform these 2 steps:
* Hook your phone up to your computer using a USB cable and then wait for the notification to show up in your title bar of your phone.
* Click the notification, and then click "Mount".
It does charge via USB and AC.
It is now powered up and frozen, but XP does find the Android phone and it shows up as a disk drive in device manager.
First off, who froze it?
Secondly, does the phone get to the homescreen?
The user brought it in at the G1 screen.
That is as far as it gets in power up.

i hope you have a computer and either an extra mini sdcard *1MB in size* handy, or a mini sd card reader handy.
format the card, fat32.
download the rom from here. *scroll down to downloads section and pick the appropriate one. rc-33 U.S. RC-9 U.K. ADP unbranded*
if it's already named update, transfer it to the card, if not rename it update, then transfer it to the card.
After it has been transferred.
place the card back into the phone. start the phone up holding home and end key till it enters the recovery mode.
you should see a list of commands with a leopard looking-like screen.
hit alt-w
then alt-s
after it is complete, hit back+home to reboot again.
Just wanted to follow up annd say thanks to everyone for the help. I did not get a chance to deal with it today, but I will post the outcome.
I have the same problam too.
I have JF 1.1 Holidey version and when I try to update it to jf1.5 it gets stuck on the G1 logo, I tried using differnet updates to and differnt sd cards
and even tried the JF updater and it dosent work, I'm a bit frustrated, my brother rooted the phone for and installed the RC29 rom and the JF rom,
it offered me a system holiday update awaile ago and when I updated it froze on the G1 logo after I waited a long time (about 45 min) I removed the battery and started the phone again.. then I saw about 35MB free space (before I had only 10MB) and I think that from that point it added the holiday but I'm not sure if it wasn't already before that.. I realy need your halp with this.. I can't find a way to boot my phone and start a bootloader..
p.s. I was able to get to the fast boot when I press the power + Camera but I don't know how to use it..

G1 homescreen freeze
Hi,
I have a G1, installed hero-rom from xda(Jacheroski 2.0). I found it pretty annoying because the phone was very slow etc. So i tried to go back to the almost original software.
1. started G1 in recovery mode(Home+power), alt+x, adb shell, #parted /dev/block/mmcblk0, mklabel msdos, Y, rm1, rm2, mkpartsfs, primary, fat32, 0, 8000(8 gb card), shut down G1.
Downloaded:
- Radio (from htc support)
- SPL (from xda)
- Rom (from htc support)
Copied those files to my SD.
2. started my G1 in recoverymode(Home+power), wipe, apply any zip from SD,
First installed Radio = succesful
Tried to install SPL:got an error in line.
So thought that I first need to reboot my G1(because of the radio)
I rebooted my G1. got a installation screen. then I restarted my G1 and wanted to go to recovery mode to install spl and rom. It was frozen on the homescreen. I can't do any thing. not recovery not the other one(camera+power)
Any advice?

[Q] Almost Bricked MT3G 32b Help Please

Okay so i had rerooted my MT3G after sometime of being left on stock android. I decided to make some adjustments on my device by editing the framework-res.apk. Problem is im running stock android and it just leaves me stuck on the second splash screen after reboot... It doesnt even show the Android screen... Its not bricked as i can go into recovery but i cant reflash the Froyo Ota because of error
Some information about device:
Sapphire PVT 32B Ship s-on G
Hboot-1.33.0013
Radio=2.22.28.25
And when I try to reflash the update it says
Assert failed:!less_than_int(1285103450), getprop("robuild.date.utc"))
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Everytime I try to reflash it gives me that screen, and i already did a factory reset and wiped cache partition
What should I do??? Note S-On, from official froyo ota, so I think other roms are out of the question.
Please help
Oh and I have access to recovery and fastboot/hboot.
Yay! You get to downgrade and reupdate to 2.2.1. I think I've already got instructions out to do so, give me just a minute to dig them up.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using Tapatalk
1. If your using Windows, go to Control Panel->Folder Options->Make sure that "Hide known file extensions" is NOT checked.
2. Go here and download the "sappimg.nbh" and "update1.zip" through "update5.zip".
3. Put all the files on the root of your SD card (this means put them on your SD card but not in a folder).
4. With the phone off, boot into hboot by holding volume down+power.
5. A screen will come up, you'll see a few lines of text, then on the last line you should start seeing a progress bar in the upper right-hand corner. The phone is checking the sappimg file.
6. When the check is done, it'll ask you to hit action to continue (Action is pressing the trackball). Hit the trackball to continue.
7. You'll see a few more progress bars, then the phone will ask you to press "Action" to reboot, do as it says.
8. When you get to the Google activation screen, just turn the phone back off. (Or if you need the phone for SD card access, sign in, to do the next step, then power off)
9. Mount your SD card to the computer and rename "update1.zip" to "update.zip".
10. With the phone turned off, boot into recovery holding home+power until you see a triangle with an exclamation point and a phone. Hit home+power again to bring up the menu.
11. First select "Wipe data/factory reset" and then select "Apply update.zip from SD card".
12. Reboot and let the phone get to the Google activation screen again, then turn it off. (Again, if you need the phone for SD card access, sign in, to do the next step, then power off)
13. Mount your SD card to your computer again, delete the "update.zip" file and rename "update2.zip" to "update.zip".
14. Do steps #10-12 again.
15. Repeat steps #13 and #14 until you've flashed all of the updates, then reboot. Your back to 2.2.1.
That would be great. Thanks a ton.
Thanks a ton. I'll report later to see if it worked or not.
Yea so it doesn't let me get past the 5th step. Its not recognizing the sappimg provided. Its in the root directory so i don't know what the problem is...

Try formatting the SD card and putting only the files needed back on. Make sure you backup anything you want to keep.

Sent from my HTC Magic/Dream using XDA Premium App
Yes I formated it to FAT which is the default. And I used a card reader to transfer the file over but it doesn't want to recognize my file. Keeps telling me no file or wrong file type... I used the default card which is SD and a Kensington sdcard as well... Should i format it to a different type?
Format to FAT32.

[Q] Dont get past huawei logo

Hi
I upgraded my phone to 2.3.5 and after that i flashed the auroraICS ROM. Before upgrading i made a backup using CWM, and now after i used the recovery option in CWM i wont get past the huawei logo after i turn the phone on. I cant get back into CWM either it only goes to the huawei logo. Does anyone know a way to fix this? If so i would be very happy xD
So you went back from ICS to stock 2.3.5 by recovering your 2.3.5 backup using CWM, and then it wouldn't boot properly?
Do you have anything important in that backup that you want to recover, or do you just want to get your phone clean and working again?
In any case, have you tried putting an official update on your memory card and "upgrading" with the usual method (holding both volume buttons and power button at boot)?
If that doesn't work, are you able to access the pink recovery screen by holding the same buttons without the dload folder on your memory card (though you may need the card inserted)?
If so, connect a USB cable to your computer and see which folders you can see. In my experience, Windows has only seen the /.cust_backup/ partition, while (CrunchBang) Linux has seen four automatically, including the internal SD memory. Copying a dload folder to the internal memory and using the normal upgrade method without the external SD card inserted could work.
I used the backup to get rid of aurora and just get normal stock rom. I tryed to "upgrade" back to 2.3.5 using a dload folder and pink screan and it worked! Thank you! A "thanks" to you sir! Glad i didnt have to send my phone in for reparation xD

Pink screen, Blue screen and update failed

Please help ...
I know things like this are asked many many times, but I couldn't find a way to get it working :-(
I've got a Huawei u8800+ from merimobiles yesterday. The first time I tried to get into recovery mode the phone was going for a firmware update and got stuck at step 1/2 "update failed", so I had to pull out the battery. So from ths point on, everytime I boot my phone (without an sd card) it keeps on updating (and failing). So I tried to get the pink screen and connected the phone to my pc. I then accidentally formatted the image dir on the phone instead of the sd card
Here are the problems I'm facing
1. Without an sd card the phone always tries to update.
2. With a sd card and a dload folder I get a blue screen (normal boot, boot with volume +)
3. With a sd card and volume + and - I get the pink screen. So I can still access the phone ... but I have no idea what to do next.
It looks like somehow it doesn't matter what's on the sd card ... it just won't update what's on it (tried several sd cards .... all FAT 32 and a dload with an UPDATE.app in it)
I've already created a image dir with recovery.img boot.img etc ... but without any luck ...
So...is it still possible to flash any firmware? And ... does anybody know which kind of firmware version comes with a Huawei u8800+ from Mermobiles (I haven't heard from them yet).
If someone would be so kind to post the image dir somewhere that would be highly appreciated
Many many thanks in adance
Regards
Oh and by the way ... when you put a dload folder with an UPDATE.app on your sd card and you press the power on with volume + and - , you shouldn't see a pink screen but the update should start automatically?
Still no luck with finding an answe to my problem
I really hope someone could help me out.
No, if the update found on sd card, you will not see the pink screen. The update will start automatic.
Try to power off the device, remove the battery and connect it with usb cable on pc. Then press the combintation of power, vol+, vol- buttons.
Thank you for the reply ... I've alreaady tried to pull out the battery and connect it to the PC, but with volume + and - it gives me the same pink screen :-( and without pressing the volume + and - it gives me a blue screen :-(
Finally got CWM to work so I can flash roms .... but with every rom (tried 2 roms) the phone just crashes (no reboot .... a real crash) ... what can be the case?
Can it be because the kernels?
Thanks in advance

U8800 bricked and no access to pink screen

I have a U8800 Pro with the original 2.2.2 kernel.
I attempted today to update to 2.3.5 so that then I could take it to the newly released 4.0.3.
All these were done with the official Huwaei ROMs. (U8800%2B Android 2.3 V100R001C00B572G001)
I did a factory restore before I started the whole process just to be on the safe side as well.
Unfortunately during the second step of the process after the reboot the phone remains in the "Unpacking - Update Failed" state
I cannot go into the pink screen mode. I tried with removing the battery as well but even though I attempt to boot with Volume + power key pressed it still goes straight to the update process and the obvious error. Obviously I cannot access the internal SD card from my PC (does not show up on dmesg) so I can at least delete the dload directory
Is there a way to bypass this problem and go to pink screen mode ?
If I use an external SD card and put a ROM on that will it boot from that or it will still first access the internal SD card ?
Thanks is advance for any answers.
Try to put dload folder on a external sd and update again. I guess you cant access recovery right?
Try to turn on the phone in pink screen (Download Mode) without the SD CARD, I use that trick when the same problem attack my phone.

Yeah it worked.
Used an external SD card to do the update and to phone booted without any trouble.
It seems the update file on the internal SD card must have been corrupted or not transferred correctly.
Still the inability to access to pink screen was quite scary. Serves me right for using the internal storage for something like this.
